We wanted Italian food and because we are not from San Antonio we looked on Yelp for a place near from where we were staying that was not on the Riverwalk/downtown area. This place had fairly good reviews so we decided to checked it out. We went on a Friday - around 8:45pm an hour and 15 minutes before closing time. Although it was not busy, service was slow. I know that servers have no control on the speed of your order from the kitchen so I do take that into account. Our server was good. However, he was distracted at times along with the other staff cleaning and preparing for closing. Now the food. I had the Shrimp Farfelle - bowtie pasta with a pesto sauce. It had 6 medium-large shrimp and a huge serving of pasta tossed with pesto, not a sauce. It was dry. My mom ordered the eggplant parmagiano. The breading was thicker than the eggplant almost just breading. Both were served warm, not hot. I don't know if it was the kitchen's fault or it stayed waiting for the server to bring it to us. I think next time we will stick to TexMex or Mexican food. read more

If there was less than 1 star I would have done that much! I ordered the shrimp farfalle pasta and it was sooo bland! No flavor whatsoever. I asked the waiter if he could bring me a side of pesto, and he did but it must have been watered down to the point that it had no flavor. When I had tried some, it still didn't improve the flavor. I told the waiter if he can take my plate, I didn't like it. He said the manager would come by. Which No manager ever came over to speak with me. Then the waiter came back and said that he wouldn't take it off my bill, and he packed the food I gave him back that I was not going to eat!!! Caparelli's is not what it used to be. Wowzers! I've been a fan of this Capparelli's location for years! I am actually shocked by the poor reviews from the previous yelpers. First of all, YES! I am a San Antonio LIFER! Secondly, I've traveled the great United States and tasted several types of Italian food, unfortunately never been to New York OR to the homeland of Italian dishes-Italy, and I believe Capparelli's is very decent Italian/American food. Of course everyone is different with different pallets, so continue reading if you want a positive review here. There are several Capparelli's across town. "Capparelli's On Main" is my favorite. It has the most romantic setting located in the heart of Monte Vista. Each table is decorated with fresh floral arrangements. All the waiters are in neat uniforms. The upstairs area has a great mural of all the mobsters mostly infamous, made famous in movies. They have a beautiful outside dining area that is perfect for parties. The entire location is perfect for photos. They have a great interior designer in my opinion. It's not a large restaurant and will get packed on most occasions. When you order items that take longer to bake/cook, a good waiter will let you know. Some pasta dishes and Pizza take +10 minutes, etc. The pizza is delicious! I normally order the lunch special which is a 1 topping pizza, drink and salad for less than $10. Depending on the topping, your pizza could be greasy, but for the most part, what pizza isn't? It's delicious! Perfect amount of sauce and cheese for me. You can order your salad dry with your choice of dressing or you can try their house dressing which is healthier for you and just as tasty. If you've never tried it, ask for your salad dry and try it before drenching your salad with it. Most meals come with their buttered Parmesan bread to start. If you're curious about their sub sandwiches, that's the bread you'll be enjoying your sandwich on. The meat ball sandwich is enough for 1 extremely hungry person or 2 people. My mom and I will split the sandwich most times. The eggplant Parmesan sandwich is also very delicious in half and large portions. The pasta's are pretty good depending on what you order. I will admit their tortellini has a weird texture but maybe it was the cheese filling. It's not that I hate it, but I only ordered it once, if that tells you anything. I enjoy the shrimp with angel hair pasta during dinners. I frequent this place during lunch on most occasions and can't pass that awesome pizza combo! I love Capparelli's! It's a romantic spot AND! If you're not full from lunch or dinner and Kate's Frosting is open two stores down, it's a nice little stroll to get some delicious dessert. read more

Super fast service, Standard Italian food generous portions at a fair price. I had the fettuccine alfreado and it was exactly what you would expect. For an appetizer I had the crab cakes, (in fairness if you are from Maryland they won't hold up, but otherwise the crab cakes were good.) Overall nothing was bad, nothing was life changing. We came at dinner hours and were seated on the second floor where it was very private and overlooked the first floor. We ordered two appetizers and the waitress was always very attentive. The entrees came with a side salad and I loved their house dressing! The garlic bread was also warm and flavorful. The entrees were like a party in my mouth. I ordered the shrimp ravioli and the basil pesto sauce was just perfect. My boyfriend had the red snapper and the fish was just so tender. It was our first time here and it definitely won't be our last. I would love to go back and try out more! I saw some reviews here that said the service wasn't good. The decor is Italian mobster stereotype chic. This includes a cement block in the bathroom hall with shoes attached and a plaque asking if you've seen Jimmy lately. The most important element of the decor is the fact the AC works. It is comfortable rather than a traditional Texas summer refrigerator. This is likely because I am seated upstairs in a cozy little balcony that has the Coppola tribute mural. It also has a deep rumble from the AC unit. It is definitely summer. I ordered fried calamari and shrimp Alfredo in order to challenge the stereotypes. The calamari is rings only though the texture is good. It is so easy to make rubbery squid that I am surprised this came out so well. Somebody in the kitchen knows what they're doing. The red sauce is a little too delicate. The side salad is a bit boring though the house dressing is simple and delightful. I recommend adding pepper with a light hand so it doesn't overpower. Salad and squid is followed by excellently creamy Alfredo sauce on perfect fettuccine. Fresh grated cheese on top is good but you won't need it. The shrimp have an engaging grilled and seasoned flavor. To summarize, it's not a bad meal. read more

If I could give zero stars I would but then I couldn't post this review. Went there last Wednesday with my son. Boy do I regret this restaurant choice. He ordered their trout almondine. No flavor whatsoever. What's worse is that I ordered the shrimp Farfalle Pesto to go for my other son. Both got food poisoning. Food is average to subpar. It's a hard no go for me! Seems fresh ingredients are not being used. Their sauce seems more canned than fresh. Something off with this place. We ordered fried ravioli as an appetizer. Provided a marinara and a pesto creamy as dipping sauces and both were rather bland. Ordered lasagna plate and a combo platter that included eggplant Parmigiano, 1 meatball, fresh pasta over a red sauce, 2 cheese ravioli. The meal was very salty and you walked away with a parched tongue for the next couple of hours. I swapped out the house salad for a caprese salad, the Roma tomatoes were old and smushy to the point they should have been thrown away. They upcharged me $4 for the change in Salad? Wow!!! The tomatoes were kicked to the side and not eaten. And I paid for this? The meal was a disappointment. Take advantage of me only once, as I won't be back to this MAIN location. Well, I was craving Italian, needed to just be by myself and I kind of didn't want a chain restaurant like Olive Garden. Looked up an Italian place while I was in San Antonio and this part of San Antonio is my favorite part, so I came here for lunch... AND I AM GLAD I DID. This is my first visit here. I sat upstairs and had an amazing server (I wish I had gotten his name). Customer Service was definitely deserving of a 5 star and the food exceeded my expectation. Amazing art of the wall upstairs, great atmosphere, great overview of the restaurant from upstairs, great food, amazing service, and just the right amount of customer service (wasn't overbearing yet, wasn't under the great customer service line either) He gave great recommendations without me even asking which was a big plus for me. I have been here probably four or five times throughout the years, usually for the birthday dinner of a naive friend; a couple times me and my boyfriend have just come here out of gluttonous curiosity. Every single time, I have left feeling equal parts queasy and taken advantage of. My boyfriend got food poisoning the last time we went from eating the chicken alfredo, and we swore never to return. The food comes in incredible amounts; huge plates heavy with cheap cheese laden pasta. Unfortunately enormous quantity doesn't hide the lack of quality... (neither does smothering everything in cheese, or greasy salad dressing!) This place is expensive too, at about $20 a plate... for the same prices you can have yourself a remarkable authentic Italian at Battalion.
