This place is great! We live in Chattanooga TN and were back visiting family. There are no good Chicago style pizza places in Chattanooga so we always look for some when we come back to CR. we usually go to Tomaso's or Zoey's, but wanted to try Cappy's. The best pizza I have found in Cedar Rapids. You can tell it was a testament of love for these folks to produce this food and a personal mission to triumph to be the best in the area. I do agree with the other reviewer who said it was not real NY Style. My argument is that the crust is awesome anyway. Also agree with the other, other reviewer who wanted more pungent flavors such as garlic. 3 Stars for adding retro elements Zero Stars = Location! New era strip mall that lacks sidewalks, crosswalks or general ease of walking to provoke a healthy, family and pedestrian friendly neighborhood atmosphere. This place was so good! Thanks to Yelp we found it! I would call it a bit hidden, it's a small restaurant, they have a small menu but man was it delicious! We shared the Greek salad which as potato salad on it and the dressing has so much flavor! The calzone was huge easily feeds 2, the crust was so good and crispy, you could it was all homemade!! We decided to try Cappy's pizza as we were looking for a sit down pizza restaurant when we were in Cedar Rapids. We were pleasantly surprised at the ambiance, very relaxing, with a lot of charm. The pizza was very good (we tried the New York crust) and so were the bread sticks. They also have a good Gluten Free pizza too (a must for my wife). It's not everyday you can get a local dining experience like Cappy's. The New York style pizza brought me back to my roots in New York City. NO place in this area can touch this. They nailed it. Served by the wife and co-founder, cooked by the husband and their son. That's so different than the chains - with their ever changing staff and their cookie cutter products. Dough is made on-site and rests for two days before it hits their oven, for full development of flavor. The creativity of the dining space is the first indication of the unique experience you're about to have. Who would think to make a menu from old music albums, or that they could ever find cool retro tables like my grandparents had decades ago? Great food, Highly recommended! read more

Otherwise, I was a little disappointed in their version of NY style pizza. If you've ever had true NY thin crust, then you will always compare and unfortunately this doesn't. The best New York style pizza in the area. The crust is perfect the sauce is not over spiced or sweet like most pizza chains sauce it is tomato, oil and lightly seasoned. Just visited Cappy's tonight and I must say, it was great. The restaurant has a small pizzeria feel and was full when we visited. We waited only 5 min for a booth. The beer selection was excellent, offering several craft beers. We ordered a Chicago Style pizza and it was awesome. The sauce was sweet and the crust had a great olive oil taste, exactly what you expect in a Chicago style pizza. I'm a big fan of Zoeys in Marion and this place is as good as Zoeys. Nice atmosphere, great service and excellent pizza. Finally, the prices were good. They've been in business only a month and already are doing it right. Just ate at Cappys Pizza tonite. It was outstanding. Had the Chicago style spinach. I think we found our new favorite pizza place in Cedar Rapids area! Husband and I split the small salad, just enough. The decor is wonderful. Loved the wall decorations, table and chairs are lovely mid century. They have trivial pursuit cards at the booth, very fun. The salt and pepper shakers are unique and different at each table. Can't remember the last time we had so much fun looking at decorations in a restaurant! Neat variety of beers in a cooler. Owner served us and she was charming and very friendly. Wonderful addition to our side of town. But would drive from anywhere to eat here. Will recommend to everyone we know. Delicious pizza, friendly staff, awesome decor! The three of us were looking for something with good ratings so we tried Cappy's. What a great experience. We went for the Cheesy Bread appetizer. Wow!! The Cheesy Bread was a wonderful crusty-type pizza dough with mozzarella melted all over the top and a coffee cup of marinara sauce (some of the best marinara I've ever had) to go with it. But then the pizza... We ordered a large Margherita Chicago-style pizza which was a combination not on the menu but that Cappy's happily accommodated. The Chicago-style crust was flaky with just a hint of butteriness. There was a generous amount of basil on top and I struggled to resist eating the entire pizza myself. Wow. YUM!! My wife didn't finish one slice (albeit a large one). I wasn't a big fan either. I really think chain pizza has this place beat - by a lot. Quiet and quaint, my wife and I were looking for wood fired pizza but wanted to be able to talk without having to compete with bar music or a lot of other loud conversations.
