One of our favorite brunch places in town. Cute and spacious area. Service is great. Their made in house bread is delicious- a little too sweet, but perfect with some coffee. I'm done with Cappy's. I've given them a bunch of chances because friends seem to like the place, but they blow it every single time. The food here is wildly inconsistent, the service is deadly slow, and the hostess has an attitude. This weekend's brunch was the capper. I waited 20 minutes for the table I had a reservation for, and then it took 50 minutes to get a plate of eggs Benedict. When it came they for some reason made the whole dish spicy, but never mention that on the menu. I'm done. I won't be back. They just drop the ball every time. They have other restaurants in their ownership group and La Fonda on Main and Mama's Cafe are excellent. Cappy's needs a complete overhaul. read more

Wow, oh Wow!! First time diners at Cappy's, found them on Yelp with quite a favorable rating, so we decided to check it out for our grandson's 16th birthday. Everything we ordered was on point! The crusted chicken with horseradish sauce on the top was a hit with my father and he had never tried horseradish before, who knew at 85 he could still find new things to try?! My husband chose the Walleye, which was a special, and found it to be light, tender, and a good sized portion. Both men were given the sides of fluffy mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables, the vegetables had just the right amount of charring. My grandson chose the hamburger, medium, with fries, and an extra side of Mac & Cheese, which he finished down to the smallest potato...at 14 he is still a very picky eater. My daughter chose the Prime Rib, medium, with the same sides as the men. She could not finish the large piece, slab?, served to her, but she gave it a good try. As for me, I had the Fish Tacos, rockfish, and I chose a salad to go along with it. May I say, they were the perfect size, the flavor was amazing, and the fish was so moist! Did I finish everything on my plate, yes! The salad was a lovely ending to my plate of fish tacos. Funny thing, the grandson who was turning 16 could not get off work for his birthday dinner, but we still had dessert for a different birthday "boy." Who, you may ask...my father who had just had his birthday party the night before, so he was given a lovely piece of the coconut cream pie as a "gift," while the rest of us had the raspberry crème brûlée...we even sang him happy birthday, quietly.. All in all, our first time dinner at Cappy's was a very happy success, and the next time we visit San Antonio we will make it a MUST on our list. I went to UIW a (literal) decade ago and heard good things about this place but somehow never made it by. Nowadays, my grandmother is the world's pickiest eater and has a list of about five places she'll willingly go to dine out as a family - Cappy's is one of them. Location is cute, tucked away in a building off of Broadway that looks like a house. Our server was patient with my grandmother - despite being here on a weekly basis, she "didn't know what she wanted" and the gal had to come back several times. Pay attention to the chalkboard by the entrance for their daily specials for starters, entrees, soups, and desserts. Portions are bigger than I expected for this upscale 09er spot, expect ~$50/pp if you get an app or drink. BF and I shared the Gulf Shrimp Nachos - not sure what the base of these is, as it's not a tortilla chip, but they were good. Pick off the jalapenos if you can't do spice. Shared the crab cake and salmon entrees, both fresh and well prepared. I especially liked the lobster mashed potatoes that the salmon was plated with. Our table shared several desserts, but the coconut cream pie was my favorite. On a return visit, I'd want to come back for their brunch menu! read more

Fantastic and attentive service from our waiter, Angel. The cod was delicate and paired well with the Sauvignon Blanc. Let's start with the Old Fashioneds. Very good!!! Loved the cherry in it!! The only criticism is that mine was not filled as much as another one. My husband said the gumbo was the best he has had anywhere!! I had the daily soup which was Sweet Chili. It had a few chunks of beef, beans that made me think they were pork and beans (but they worked great) along with onions and a bit of pasta. I quite enjoyed it. I ordered the Paella. The shrimp, mussels and scallops were cooked to perfection. The risotto was a little too cheesy for paella. The Beef Medallion was tender, flavorful and cooked correctly. The polenta was just okay. Our server was very good and attentive. When he found out that it was our first visit, he let us know dessert was on the house. Since there were four of us, we got two desserts on the house. We got the Warm Chocolate Cake which was very good. My husband ate most of it and he is not a dessert person so that should tell you something. For Saturday brunch I ordered the Raspberry Sparkler and Benedict: SARDOU, spinach, artichoke, and brie. The sides that came with the Benedict were seasonal fruit and hash browns. The raspberry sparkler is very tasty mimosa, really like the blend and flavor. You must order by glass. The Benedict SARDOU was great. Ordering Benedicts is my new go-to for brunch and this one hit the spot. It's a great option on the menu for vegetarians. read more

Will be going back to give it another try... Called to place an order to be picked up. I was told they are only doing brunch menu now. I asked when the lunch menu would start. I was told it is only brunch menu on the weekends. Ok. That would be great to know ahead of time... Like somewhere on the website.. So after sitting on hold for 10 minutes, I had to call back after looking at the brunch menu. I placed the order. I asked if it could be ready at 12:30 instead of in 20 minutes. Clearly that was asking too much. I also asked if I could pre-pay since I had my dogs and would need to make the pickup as quick as possible. Also seemed like it was taken as an inconvenience. Pick up was easy. Hunter saw me standing to the side with my dogs and asked how he could help. He went inside to let someone know. Another guy also asked if he could help a minute or so later. Everyone smiled at my dogs which was sweet. But they were busy. Very busy. The food was brought out. I left an extra tip for the inconvenience and help. The food was good, even after a long trip back to the house. I had the traditional eggs Benedict. Not the best I've ever had, but not bad. Very thick English muffin. Well cooked ham. Sauce was decent, not very flavorful, but a good thickness. The fruit cup side was dismal at best. We also ordered the Heights burger. It was cooked the way it was ordered. The fries were fantastic! My husband said the burger was good. The pickles were delicious! Post-COVID-19 we plan on going in person and giving it another try. I had never been to Cappy's, even though I'd been born and raised in SA. Went today for brunch. It was excellent, from the service to the food to the setting. Our waiter Abel was cordial and attentive, never hovering but always knowing when to ask about refills. The Benedicts Royale and Ranchhand were delicious. Even the coffee was great, dark and mellow. Playing a good 90's playlist. It was almost full by the time we left, a testament to the quality. Yesterday was our 27 year anniversary. We started the day by driving almost 2 hours to San Antonio for the wife's hand doctor appt. After another 2 hours and 2 painful shots in the hand, I knew that she would need a fabulous lunch for our celebration. We picked Cappy's and they did not disappoint. It was hard finding parking but we managed to snag a spot in the back lot. We also snagged a wonderful table on the patio. Nice trees and away from the main street. Great day to sit outside. Heating included under the table umbrellas if needed. Our server was Ryan and he was so nice and made our lunch wonderful. We started with top shelf Margaritas. Very good. The wife had them add a little moddled jalapeño to hers. We also had a crab cake. Lots of crab. Delicious. For the entrees, the wife got the mussels. 2 hunks of bread for dipping and frites. She loved it. I tried the Mustang Chicken. Loved it because it was like snitzel with a horse radish sauce. Mashed potatoes and mixed veggies rounded out the meal. Very delicious. For our anniversary, they offered dessert which we chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Wonderful. We were so full. We came here for a birthday dinner and it was fantastic! Marc Anthony took care of us and was the epitome of the perfect server. On top of him, the whole team was in sync providing flawless and quick service. They worked quick to bus the dirty dishes, refill drinks, and constantly asked if we needed anything. There were multiple people constantly checking on us that weren't our server. We enjoyed some cocktails and started with the Thai mussels that were delicious. They were barely fishy, the broth didn't taste fishy at all, I do wish there was maybe one more piece of bread with it but that's my only complaint. For entrees we had fish tacos, pork chops, prime rib, and lobster tail. Pork was a 10, they were huge, and the depth of flavor wrote a story my taste buds had a blast following. I don't love prime rib but it was good, a little dry on its own. My lobster tail was a solid 8/9, I haven't had much lobster but it was good. The fish tacos were... fish tacos, nothing special. For dessert we had the seasonal cobbler, it wasn't very good at all. It was just mush, and the flavor wasn't special. The crème brûlée was average, but the warm chocolate cake was yummy! And the vanilla bean ice cream was yummy. 100% will be coming back here! read more

One of 12 were celebrating a birthday (with one child who never sat down) and for the time we were there, never ordered food, but had a lot to drink. Cons: - The ribeye I ordered was not good. It seemed it was microwaved or it was steam cooked. There was absolutely zero crust. I also ordered it cooked as medium and got a medium rare. You may have thought the ribeye couldn't get any worse but you would be wrong. They also threw on a bunch of muck on TOP of the ribeye. It seemed like tomato purée and it wasn't good. This was definitely the worst ribeye I have ever had. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT ORDER THE RIBEYE! - The music was very random. Middle: - I also ordered an Mac and cheese which was ok. Pros: - The cranberry lemonade is pretty good - The salmon with the mashed potatoes and lobster was also good. (Mainly the salmon) - The sticky toffee pudding was phenomenal definitely recommend trying, if you don't you're missing out. (Not better than Hell's Kitchen sticky toffee pudding in Las Vegas) - The jumbo crab cakes were good - Michael our waiter had great service. Suggestion for the restaurant: A good steak can stand alone on its own without purée or sauces. I recommend you put that tomato purée thing on the side. read more

I come to Cappy's for their chicken and duck liver pate. I think it is wonderful with the toasted ciabatta bread. It's my meal. My wife ate some of the pate, but ordered The jumbo blue crab cake. Probably not the best choice after the pate but it was delicious and came with a nice small salad. We sat near the window and could look outside. The trees, of course, are leafless, But there was a beautiful 6 foot tall, thin Yaupon Holly with red berries on it. Very attractive just on other side of our window. I ordered the pate but had too much jam on it that took away from the funk associated with pate and the bread crisps were overly buttered that left fingers pretty greasy.
