I really enjoy Cappy's and frequently order their burgers to go. Unfortunately, they keep overcooking the burgers (order medium rare and get medium well to well done). I tried reaching out a couple times via email but nobody contacts me back.

I made reservations to visit on a Saturday night and that turned out to be a very good idea. The wait was still 15 minutes with the reservation. My husband and I both agree it was still a good experience. The ambiance here is off the charts. We sat upstairs and got excellent customer service and a nice view of part of downstairs. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. I tried the halibut and it was small but tasty. The macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes were also good. My husband really liked his pork chop. Parking can be a little bit of a problem but we found a space without having to look around for too long. When my budget allows, we will return since the prices are kind of on the high side.

Delicious food and great location. Service has been outstanding every time I have gone. It's a comforting place that has a very bistro feel. Comfortable, quiet and understated. I did feel prices were on the higher end for some items. This last time I had the chicken salad plate, which has a portion of chicken salad, grapes, a bit of broccoli and a sort of mango mousse. It was $18, which seemed a bit high for the portion, but the food was tasty and enjoyable. Good place for lunch, if you need a sedate spot without too much drama and good food.

We visited Cappy's for the first time today and it was a great experience. The staff was welcoming and very attentive. Our server Ian is a true professional. The restaurant itself is open, not noisy but no so quiet that you're afraid to have a conversation, and surrounded by beautiful oak trees. We were seated upstairs and it felt like we were dining in a treehouse. The food was served hot and everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We were there for brunch and I tried the "Homard" which was composed of truffled eggs scrambled with lump crab meat topped with a butter poached lobster tail. It was delicious and rich. I had a side of pancakes as well that were fluffy and tasty. I definitely will be back and highly recommended Cappy's.

Steak Frites... Sub the fries for a Caesar salad

Cappy's is absolutely amazing... easily one of our favorite spots in San Antonio. We've never had a bad experience here. The service is always top-notch, and the food never misses. On this particular visit, we came for lunch and had the lunch steak, which is consistently flavorful and perfectly cooked. I always swap out the fries for the Caesar salad, and it's honestly one of the best I've had, super fresh and packed with flavor. We decided to try the mussels in coconut sauce as an appetizer, and WOW.. chef's kiss! The broth was so good I could've eaten it as a soup. We've also been for brunch and dinner, and every single visit has been just as delightful. Cappy's is a true gem and a must-visit for locals and visitors alike.

Finally got a chance to try this restaurant tucked away off of Broadway in the Alamo Heights area. I've been to its sister Cappycino's which is very good so I'm glad I had brunch here today. Cappy's is behind the storefronts (including Cappycino's) facing Broadway. There is ample parking off of Mary Ave. The food was very good, starting with the variety of biscuits/muffins that come with your meal during breakfast or brunch. I had the Ham & Cheese Omelette which was cooked perfectly: fluffy and full of cheese and ham. It also came with some fruit which can never go wrong and some country styled potatoes. Now, I was slightly disappointed since the menu said it was hash browns, which they are clearly not. However, they were very good. If you go for Brunch, they have several lunch item options as well. The staff was attentive and very nice. I would recommend a reservation so you can avoid waiting.

Just plain fantastic all the way around. Delicious food & impeccable service. Iba crabcake snob and rarely order in San Antonio but they do it right!

Love, love, love Cappys and all the Lawton Family Restaurants I have been to. I have been wanting to visit Cappys for some time, but was hesitant to as I am with all restaurants these days, afraid that I'll show up and be that annoying guest with a food allergy. I wouldn't expect it to be the case at a place like this, but this is truly one of my biggest fears. Anywayssss, I was happily able to order the steak frites off the brunch menu (without cheese or butter, both of which I'm sure would have made this meal taste and look even better to the average person) and it was delicious! The steak was absolutely perfectly cooked with just the right amount of seasoning. The french fries were cut thin and crispy. It was a beautiful 83 degrees outside, mid-day so I ordered the Colombian mojito. It was cool and refreshing. They have indoor and outdoor seating, with plenty of fans, covered umbrella seating and a nice breeze if you opt for outdoors. The service was quick and my entire experience was a 10/10. They usually provide an assortment of breads with butter, but I obviously didn't go for that. They have quite the assortment of options from what I saw online and from my brunch menu. If you've made it this far in my review, I highly recommend dining at Cappys!

    Mustang Chicken. Delicious!

Recommend: Yes. Highly suggest making a reservation. Food: I ordered the Mustang Chicken. It is a thin filet of Chicken (big piece though) on top of a mashed potatoes with a side of vegetables. There was also a sauce on top of the chicken filet. Family members ordered a ribeye which also came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The rib eye was so juicy and tender. The vegetables were so delicious and flavorful. My chicken was so delicious. It was breaded, juicy, and savory, pairing well with the mashed potatoes. There was so much food that I had a meal for the next day. I highly recommend the Mustang Chicken. Service: The waitress was friendly and on top of the service. She made sure our drinks were never empty and checked on is several times. Ambiance: Althought the establishment has two floors it is small indoors, low lighting in the evening, making it feel intimate. There is seating outside for the warmer months.

Cappy's is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. They call themselves "casual fine dining", which is a great way to describe the experience. The ambiance and decor are casual and relaxed, but the service and food are stand-out. I have never had a dish or drink from here that I didn't love. Everything is high quality, and although the dishes are simple they are all executed well. Must-try dishes are the halibut and mustang chicken. We also recently tried the brussels sprouts with kimchi vinaigrette and crab cake, and both were amazing! Would recommend Cappy's for any occasion, from a celebration to a casual lunch.

Ask the Community - Cappy's Restaurant

    Would small children fit in?

I'm not sure. I do not have small children. They might be bored unless you bring a coloring book or something for them to keep busy. I'm not sure

Is their any live music here , if so what days? Hours. Thank you :)

No live music just good food and good service!

What is the attire /dress code if any?

Most people dress business casual, although there is no dress code- Cappys employee.

    Is the patio pet friendly?

    Yes

Is Cappy's serving in their dining room or still in Cappuccinos? The acoustics in Cappachinos are less than desirable. Hard to have a conversation.

    All areas are open

    Is this place still open?

    Yes and still very good.

Do they have normal/big portions here? The pictures kind of look like the portions are small.

Normal sized portions. Not too big, but not too small.

What's the dress code? Will my fiancé and I look like slobs eating here before a Spurs game?

It's not Uber-casual, jeans and a jersey will be fine.

The Modernist -- A True Speakeasy Experience in San Antonio…read more If you're in downtown San Antonio, take a break from the River Walk and check out The Modernist. This is a true speakeasy-style lounge that's easy to overlook from the outside--it looks like a regular, unassuming place. But once you step inside, the atmosphere completely changes. The interior is cozy, intimate, and has that hidden-gem feeling you want from a speakeasy. The staff members are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I had the pleasure of having Adan behind the bar, and this guy knows how to make a good drink! As always, I started with my go-to Old Fashioned. I have to say, it was easily one of my top two Old Fashioneds I've ever had. Then I told Adan to surprise me, and he came up with some kind of peanut butter chocolate martini. Let me just say... it was a true pleasure. Rich, smooth, and absolutely delicious. What I really liked about The Modernist is that it feels like a place the locals actually frequent rather than just another tourist spot. I genuinely had a great time here. If you're visiting San Antonio and find yourself downtown, give The Modernist a try. Step away from the River Walk for a little while--you might just discover your new favorite spot.

For her second drink, she told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a look and asked more than once if she was sure she wanted him to surprise her. Instead of making her an actual cocktail, he poured her what seemed to be a straight, extremely bitter liqueur. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I hope management sees this and addresses it, because the concept of the place is great, but the way we were treated completely ruined it for us

Parking along the street is free (along the fence line of Sam Houston) and was not an issue even for a holiday. There is a paid parking lot that is secure and available too so note that if ever you have an issue finding a good spot. Walking into Slow Ride is like walking into your tio's (uncle) or a grandpa's cool, 70's/80;s vibey, and home-y bar. This is the kind of spot where every picture you take of yourself, or your friends, will look like you took it in the 80's! This is not a bad thing either. Seriously. It IS A VIBE here! Cushy seats at the bar was my favorite spot to hang out while we had some cold beers and a shot to go alongside it too. They have beer and shot combos here around $8. You get plenty of choices on beer and liquor of choice. I opted for a tallboy Lonestar and a small shot of the Mexican Candy. My sister got a Live Oak Hefe in a can (she likes Blue Moon so this was the closest thing to it and she liked it!) and later a Shiner in a bottle. I also decided to close out with a daiquiri that was super delicious and offered in nice glassware. Patio out in the back is spacious and a great spot to hang out with a group of friends. The back space is taken care of and has a modern look to it out there. I can see it being a nice vibe outside on a pretty day too. Jukebox is legit! All great music selections from all genres on CDs and pretty cheap too to play 5-8 songs. The artwork around here is worth a look around too. I love all the unique Garfield toys surrounding the bar area too. All of the back bar is so great with the wooden shelving and lighting too. You can see many honorable nods to those who currently or have served. It's a great thing to see especially so close to Sam Houston. One thing I have a pet peeve on is any service bar who has to keep my card on file. I am the worst person who won't remember so I have to be extra careful when bars keep my card. I usually walk and don't mind paying the 20+% tab walk fee but I do want my card back so I have to get everyone who is with me to remind me to go get it. That's why I am giving it 4 stars. I am looking forward to coming back in the future and bringing some more family and friends, though. This spot is so nostalgic and their social is super active and will promote DJs and sets happening that week and into the weekend. Go check them out and play some pool.
