I had no idea this restaurant had been around for over a year! So glad we decided to give it a try together with some of our friends. We got there before 6 PM so we were able to take advantage of their half price Happy Hour drinks. The only problem with this was that the bartender was in training and her trainer was not around. They kept apologizing for the delay but they made it up by extending their HH because of this. We went with their onion soup, seafood linguini, octopus with vegetables and the Bangkok Steak with Asian Noodles and a side of broccolini. All entrees and sides were delicious. Our young waitress was a delight. She was very animated and friendly. We had fun talking to her. All together, this place is worth a try. The service was good although the server talked fast, non-stop, and all over the place with his conversation. As a Clinician, I had my thoughts of what was going on there. It was very uncomfortable after a while. Now the food. I am not only a healthcare professional but an extremely seasoned cook for over 40 years. The empanadas were good although I question if they were handmade. The goat cheese salad was very good although over dressed, swimming in dressing. My main course of the smoked eggplant & goat cheese ravioli was really unpleasant. First, mine looked nothing like the pictures shown. I had only 4 raviolis with few tomatoes, barely any mushrooms and swimming in a ton of 'extremely' salty broth that made it uneatable. The saltiness covered any taste of goat cheese and not sure where the eggplant was in this dishes filling. I should have taken a picture but forgot. The cocktails for happy hour were a small amount. My guest cooks salmon all the time and she said it was just okay. I shared this with the server, and he made excuses in less than an understandable way. I asked what the broth was and he did not know. It tasted like salted box broth. I asked for club soda, and I was given a chilled can of HEB club soda poured in a glass. Then the manager came in (I assume) and asked how our experience was and I shared with him about the ravioli. No comp, just sorry. I did leave the appropriate tip but please do not tell me these 'chefs' are from all around the world. I have had culinary experiences all around the world and this place is overpriced and a wannabe 5-star restaurant. Those who gave 5 stars either do not know good food, do not know how to cook, or went at a better time. Very disappointed and will not return. read more

Went for restaurant week and had a great experience. Recommend to show up early. We went in thinking as some of the first after they opened and shortly after, the crowd rushed in. Great spot to try some unique food. We really liked the idea of serving foods from different regions of the world. Started out with the goat cheese salad. An interesting fried puck of goat cheese which was damn good. We were curious to try the ceviche and were glad we did. For the quality of freshness and portions, this is some of the best ceviche in town. They got some pretty chill music playing, easy to talk to someone. The waiter made us a nice mezcal cocktail after giving him a feel for the flavor profile we were after. Great base of knowledge on cocktail making. This restaurant has only been here for one year and I'm telling you now, get in before they start getting too busy. The service was amazing and the staff were so helpful helping us decide on food but also drinks from the bar. They use a lot of fresh ingredients in their cocktails, we recommend the mojito and the margaritas. They do have a happy hour so I highly suggest going during the week. Dishes were flavorful. For the appetizer, we tried pork belly ceviche and recommend it. We also had the Bangkok New York steak, great flavor but seemed to be hard to chew through due to the vein of the steak or the silver skin , however the picanha dish was amazing and would highly recommend. They have a special on Thursdays for two to include paella and sangrias for two. We plan to go back and try. The atmosphere is cozy, dim lit, and had jazz renditions of today's hits. They only have one dessert on the menu and it's a cheesecake made with blue cheese. I can tell you that neither of us like blue cheese, highly despise it, yet for some reason blue cheese in this cheesecake is absolutely amazing. If you do not like blue cheese, I suggest giving it a try. A kids menu is available as well as outside seating. read more

Husband and I really enjoyed this restaurant. Decoration is pleasant to the eye and provide a warm/comfortable atmosphere. The choice of music is appropriate and volume is just right to be soothing without interfering with conversation. We had an exceptional experience with the server and the manager of the restaurant. We enjoy conversations with people from other countries for which it was nice to mingle with them for a while. The ceviche (did not take a picture) was delicious and flavors were balanced without lime overpowering the dish. All this to say, don't expect it to taste like most of the ceviches in local Tex-mex kitchen; keep an open mind. The main dishes (pictures provided) were presented beautifully and flavors were perfect for us. A new find for me and it was amazing. The menu is small but it doesn't seem that way since the food is amazing! Our server (Andrew) explained the dishes and their preparation, very knowledgeable and worked so well with everyone really. The bistro itself is so inviting and comfortable (although it was a bit chilly probably because we a a cold day today), plenty of room which makes staying to enjoy your meal so refreshing. I can't believe it wasn't until my last dish that I thought to take a picture, the pork belly ceviche. There's a reason there's only 5 star reviews. Every year I take a solo vacation to get some time to myself as a mom; a momcation if you will. I eat out every meal often trying new places nearby my hotel (where I nap, take long luxurious baths, and relish in the quiet ‍). This time I came across Anhelo and I saw they had ceviche. I love me some ceviche so I figured why not? Oh my goodness. This was SO GOOD. I had the Ceviche Aji Amarillo to try something different and I was NOT disappointed. Truly had to stop myself from licking the bowl--this is fine dining don't ya know. Finished it off with the basque cheesecake and I texted my husband "I'm mad I'm getting full because I feel like I'm doing a disservice to how amazing this is" (I did finish it off though ). My server was fabulous and helped with any questions I had about the menu. Went here on a whim because the menu was right up our alley. I love it when an unassuming restaurant in a strip mall turns out to be an amazing experience. I love the ambiance and the playlist were perfect. We download and listened the music on the way home. My husband and I shared 2 pitchers of sangria the best I've had since moving to Texas 6 years ago. We prefer a red wine forward and less sweet sangria and they made it to our liking. I love the idea that they have dishes from different countries. I settled for the ceviches. Both has leche de Tigre, one from Ecuador and the other is just titled Anhelo ceviche. It reminded me of Peruvian ceviches. It was absolutely delicious! To me this restaurant is a bit upscale. The service is prompt. They give you some sort of complimentary mixture of popcorn and fried plantain chips. They refilled it without even asking even though I wasn't planning on getting full This restaurant is definitely a date night spot for anybody looking for this type of ambiance! This restaurant has unique, inspired dishes from a chef trained in Venezuelan, Peruvian, and Spanish cuisine. Everything is made fresh. The food was exceptional, & the half-price cocktails at their Sunday happy hour were tasty...the standout is the Old Fashioned that is smoked right at the table! The wait staff and manager were doting and the atmosphere is cozy and bright. The bathroom was very clean. They also had fun bossa nova covers of 80s songs playing on the sound system. My only recommendation would be to add a bit more passion fruit juice to the passion fruit margarita. I will definitely go again. This place is just amazing. The service is excellent. The first time I went, I tried the ceviche and the goat cheese and eggplant ravioli. This is some of the best ceviche I've had and I've had ceviche in Miami! Its so fresh and delicious. The pasta was excellent. It was one of the best meals I've had. The second time I went, I tried the steak with Asian noodles. What a delight it was! The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce on the noodles was incredible. I live in Austin, but I'm driving to SA on Sunday just to eat at Anhelo with my boyfriend. I need him to try this place. I've been talking a it iy nonstop. We've came in right after they 1st opened and really enjoyed ourselves, but then kinda forgot about the establishment. It's small but cozy, the food was great. After a friend mentioned they found a "new" place that we should try, I had to burst their bubble and say we've already been there and yes it was great and we also enjoyed the food. Needless to say, we made a point of returning again and I was definitely glad we did. I ordered the squid ink risotto, (any kind of risotto in my book is worth a try, I'm a huge risotto lover) and it was really delicious. Although the actual cocktail I wanted to order was not on their list, the bartender offered to make me a different version and it was perfect. I really appreciated how much they tried to accommodate our requests and did so very nicely. We will definitely not be waiting so long before retuning this time! This is a San Antonio gem. Exceptional food, and out of the ordinary bar drinks makes this restaurant worth trying. The Smokey old fashioned (smoked at the table), is both fun and an experience to smell and taste. I ordered the Anhelo ceviche and my husband went with the burger, and we couldn't stop talking about how delicious everything was. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing we tried that was even just "okay" - it was all amazing. Even the sweet tea my husband ordered was delicious, which says a lot! You can really tell how much care they put into every detail. They're pretty new, and I'm so glad we stumbled upon this locally owned gem. Found this restaurant by accident and glad I did. I was thoroughly impressed! Started with the Tequenos appetizer, which were very tasty and the side sauce was delicious as well. We shared the ribeye steak, which is served with the rustic potatoes. The steak is served on a grill dish and was tender and so flavorful. Our server, Abby, was attentive, knowledgeable, and took time to answer our questions. They have been open about 6-months and I can't wait to go back and try the ceviche and the Octopus dish. We arrived shortly before 6:00, just in time to order a pitcher of delicious house-made Sangria at happy-hour prices. A basket of fried plantain chips with a delicious dipping sauce was served as we looked at the menu. We chose two appetizers for our meal - beef empanadas and the Aji Amarillo ceviche. Empanadas were filled with a finely ground beef mixture with a delicious flavor. The dipping sauce a perfect accompaniment. Aji Amarillo ceviche featured a yellow pepper sauce with a tart and tangy citrus flavor. So delicious! Service was top-notch. Restaurant vibe and decor were comfortably modern and upscale. Love the custom-made leather and wood silverware holders. Our waiter said the restaurant has been open 9 months. Wednesday and Thursday nights tend to be slow, but weekends are busy.
