We shared the Market salad which was so good! Crispy warm goat cheese and grilled pear. The large crab cake with guacamole. Then the salmon and chicken dishes with a side of crispy Brussels sprouts. Everything was seasoned deliciously and the vibe was perfect. Everything from the waitress to the music. This place makes you feel like you're not even in Texas. Cappy's has been on my list of places to try for a while and I finally made it for dinner. It's a quaint little place with a nice quiet atmosphere. Service was great from the time I booked my reservation. Everyone I encountered was pleasant and welcoming. Started out with chicken & duck liver pate. Typically if I coke to a place like this I always want to try and experience something I've never had before. Took a chance, made a great choice. The pate was the right balance of savory and sweet with the jam on top. Even without the jam, the pate was very flavorful. For entree we had Ribeye w/ Israeli couscous and roasted cauliflower. The Mrs had the wild isles salmon with mashed potatoes and succotash. Both dishes were presented well and cooked deliciously. For cocktails I tried the penicillin. We'll constricted drink. Definitely a 'grown man' cocktail which is right in my wheelhouse as a whiskey and scotch kinda guy. I ordered an old fashioned as well as I do at almost every restaurant I visit. It's a way for me to gauge the bartender skill level. Surprisingly the penicillin was great; the old fashioned not so much. Our server Taylor was outstanding. BRUNCH REVIEW: Cappy's had been on my brunch radar for quite some time and fortunately for me I made it in right before COVID-19 brought everything to a standstill. My boyfriend and I stopped in without a reservation on a beautiful Texas Sunday. We were put on the wait list (which was expected) and told it would be about 45 minutes. The small interior dining area was packed, but we got lucky and nabbed the last two seats at the bar. While we waited we ordered a round of mimosas and to our surprise not long after receiving the cocktails we received the word that a table was ready. We seriously lucked out after a less than 20 minute wait we wound up with a table on the outdoor patio (a place where brunch daydrinking dreams are made of). For our meals, I ordered the steak and frites because the menu made it sound like it placed an intriguing flavor twist on a class brunch dish, while my boyfriend opted for the Mustang Chicken. (side note, the whole reason we came to Cappy's was because I had a pot roast craving and heard they had an amazing one on their brunch menu. Apparently it sells out quickly though so just an FYI to get there super early if you find yourself with a pot roast craving.) After dropping off our meals our waiter vanished for a while. This was unfortunate because my steak, while being cooked perfectly to the internal medium temperature I requested, possessed such an overwhelming char on the exterior that it was rendered inedible. The burnt charred flavor just completely overpowered the taste of the beef which was very unfortunate. The fries, however, that accompanied were crunchy as tasty. After about 15 minutes of not seeing our waiter, my boyfriend (being the good guy that he is) swapped dishes with me and YAAAAALLLLL that mustang chicken made up for the let down that was the steak. It was hands down one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was perfectly crispy and the combination of the horseradish and dijon suace that tops the chicken is so good it will make you wanna slap your momma! I still get dreamy-eyed when I think about that dish. :) When our waiter finally did arrive again to check on us and noticed the uneaten steak (my boyfriend couldn't stomach the charred flavor either) he immediately apologized. Despite our protests that no refund or visit from the manager was necessary (not enjoying a dish is always the risk you take when you dine out somewhere new) we were very pleasantly surprised when he dropped off our bill with a slice of delicious buttermilk pie and berry concoction. Overall, Cappy's is worth the rave reviews it receives and I am dreaming of a return to their patio and their Mustang Chicken once their dining room is reopened. Went here a couple weekends ago to celebrate a belated birthday with a friend. It was SO delicious! We got the mustang chicken and the pot roast (no picture of the pot roast) but both dishes were AMAZING! The variety bread basket with the strawberry butter was a nice addition. We got the chocolate cake and creme brulee for dessert. Creme brulee was delicious with a nice sugar coating but I did feel the chocolate cake was a little dry BUT I'm not a big fan of chocolate cake in general, so maybe it was just me. Our last night in San Antonio, and after much research we narrowed our choices to two and then one! Made it to Cappy's and parked on Broadway and then found out they had great parking in the rear! It's nested off the road, a bit odd, but when you get inside, it's very nice. We should have made a reservation, but, we were lucky! Sat us down and our waiter Dave greeted us and we discussed items we saw on the menu! We narrowed it down to three items and then to two. He talked us into a specially batter fried oysters on a toasted brioche bread with a light cheese and a home made chutney that was fantastic! Then to our main entree, The wife got the halibut with a delicate potato crusted with wine glaze. I had the ribeye from Allen Bros with a bone marrow butter glaze. My steak was great, but the Wife's halibut was so moist, tender and with the crispy crust, it was outstanding! He also talked us into a Brussels Sprout Kim Chee! Really wonderful! I prefer to go in the morning because I love their complimentary bread. (They close out brunch at 2:30pm so be mindful with your planning.) They have an assortment of breads that are served with a side of strawberry butter. Normally, I do my best not to fill up on bread before meals but with this place I take exception. Typically, we get the steak frittes and order medium rare. They cook the beef tenderloin as requested and top it with a slab of herb butter. Their fries are seasoned well and are delicious. It does air on the saltier side but that's all personal preference. The dish comes with a roasted tomato half and a fried parmesan garnish. I was curious about the shrimp and asked for a side. 3 for $10 originally sounded a little high, but they're jumbo shrimp so it was justifiable. I was pleasantly surprised with how well they came out.The shrimp were lightly breaded and seasoned delicately. As an added bonus, they had a great tartar dipping sauce. I enjoyed it so much I plan to get a full shrimp plate next time. The Bad: No issues on any of these dishes. In the past, I've had their prime rib and was significantly less impressed. It's been a few months since the last try with that plate. Other than that, I haven't fallen for a dessert item from here. That's not a deal breaker for me, but it would be nice to have the option. My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant for the first time this past weekend on a whim. We love going to La Fonda on Main, so we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Cappy's is owned by the same group. We ordered the Shrimp and Brussel Sprouts appetizer, the Catch of the Day (swordfish) and also the Fish Tacos, all recommended by our server. I would definitely go back for the fish dishes here- very fresh and high quality fishes. What really stood out to me during our visit was their hospitality. It was a hot evening when we went and all the seats inside were booked. As compensation for us sitting out in the patio, our waiter gave us a free dessert to say "thanks" for visiting. You can choose indoor or patio, and because it was very hot, (95) we reserved indoors. The vibe is nice. We were greeted with water, which I love. And then our drink order. It was a girls night for my bday and I picked this restaurant on a whim. I am not familiar with this side of town and was worried about the parking prior to arriving. It is near the east side so it is a bit of a drive from any direction. I say that to say that the ride is worth it. There is plenty of parking tucked on the side of the building and the atmosphere is old style and welcoming on the inside. There is also plenty of outside seating. Our waiter, Justin, was nice and knowledgeable on the drinks and food specials. As a table we ordered the Crab cake appetizer (rating-3), mustang chicken (rating-5), wild isle salmon ( rating-3.5), bread pudding (rating 3), and the chocolate cake (5) was a bday gift from the restaurant. Overall the food was delish and had a vast amount of flavor. My only "tiffs" are that my salmon was served cold in the middle (which I am assuming because it is served medium well) and the crab cake lacked flavor. The Rose Manhattan drink that we ordered left a little hair on my chest it was that strong! But it was delicious once it was finally finished and complimented my meal well. The tables total ranged from $30-$60 each depending on what was ordered. I look forward to going back and ordering other menu items to try out. read more

We were visiting San Antonio for a day so planned our day by the river walk then dinner near the Japanese tea gardens. Cappy's had a lot of good reviews so we thought we will give it a try. Tip: there's a restaurant and a cafe- they're different! Parking was easy and the place was colorful. It wasn't posh or fancy, but nice enough to make you feel like it's a special day. We had made reservations (only outside available) but we were able to sit inside: upstairs, which was a lot nicer and quieter than downstairs in my opinion! Food: We had gumbo and mustang chicken, then coconut cream pie. All to share because American dishes are huge. They were all yummy :) The bread (complimentary) was so good! The only problem we had was that the bread didn't come for a long time, and 2 waitresses came 3 times to check on us- then mentioned that bread was on the way.. we wondered at some point whether it actually existed lol. Appetizer was good- but my partner said he has had better. Main was also good- can't really go with the recipe really! There was more mashed potatoes than vegetables. Service: Our waitress was very friendly and polite. Again, the issue was that some of our orders didn't arrive for a long time(but she would come and check on us regularly!) To be fair, it seemed that for upstairs there was only one main waitress dealing with all the orders so maybe that was difficult! But we weren't annoyed or anything. It did make us laugh that when we were worried how we might end up with too many glasses of coke because we mentioned coke 3 times to different waitresses (because they kept coming to check on us, and our coke still wasn't there), the reply was 'don't worry, it's a free refill' We were worried about ending up with too many drinks (which did happen with our bread), not the price! Our sweet waitress made sure again (with the coke) that it will only be charged once. Haha we just found it funny. Anyway, overall the place seems to get busy and quite loud downstairs!
