The place totally brings the seafood boil vibe. I love the back room with the rooftop. You get to enjoy the outdoor without being outdoor. Music was wonderful too. The seafood boil was flavorful and delicious! We had their signature flavor " Cap't Loui". I was told the lemon pepper is just as good. I had the fish sandwich and Cajun fries. It was superb. Finally, a seafood boil closer to home. The server, Miguel, was nice and friendly. He didn't rush us and explained the dishes since it was our first time.

This food continues to hit the spot! Come hungry as the portions are generous. A half pound shrimp with corn, potatoes & sausage is sure to leave you feeling stuffed. The flavors are on point & the atmosphere & vibe is chill. Definitely with a visit. Parking lot across the street, lunch special m-f with reduced prices, bring a shot to add to their non alcoholic drinks & get a couple warm beignets to end a delicious meal!

The holy grail of Seafood boil spots! Walked in to celebrate a graduation and the place was empty, clean and inviting atmosphere, our host was so friendly that we ended up ordering all his recommendations and EVERYTHING was 10/10, house sauce medium spiced 4 lb combo with mussels, king crab, clams, calamari and shrimp was blissfully delicious! Raw oysters were fresh and their cocktail sauce is tasty! They make a fire garlic noodles that is a must have. Their lunch special fried calamari and fries are fried to crispy perfection. Their Shirley temple Cap lisun drink is wonderful, I especially like that it was not syrupy. Highly recommend. I am no longer a hook and reel fan.

came here for a mardi gras event i hosted! the staff was incredibly welcoming and organized. we were a loud group that was a lot to handle. we also made a big mess. $1 oysters were delish. decent size & cleaned well. id come back for these on a tuesday. only complaint was the shrimp poboy. i dont think this is the right sauce that they put on top, it threw off the whole sandwich. i also wish the shrimp batter had some spice in it. it was more salty if anything. the cajun and regular fries were good, but hard to tell the difference. we think one tasted sweet. buy one of these juices in a pouch! these are so sweet but fun to drink out of because they also light up. PS bring some rum to spike your drink. parking across the street in the paring deck is free after 7.

Exceptional. Delicious. We came in at about 6:30pm on a Tuesday (shout out to $1 oysters!). Two of us, we were seated and served right away. Miguel was so nice and friendly. Everything came out really good. I enjoyed every part of dinner. The garlic bread, the 2lb broil of shrimp, heads off, and lobster, house sauce with heat level hot (I'll be back for more) and the shrimp po boy with fries were all so delicious. The table and restaurant were nice, we were seated at a table that could've easily seated 4 so it was nice to have the space, especially because this place is byob so we had our drinks we put there. I did see the establishment also sells their own non alcoholic drinks that one can add their own personal taste to it. I will definitely be back soon !

Came here for a Mardi Gras Dinner and it was fabulous! Love the fact that you can bring your own Rum and mix it with the Capri-Sun pouches of juice they have -- very smart! I had the 2 piece boil -- lobster, shrimp, and sausage and some oysters that were at a $1 each, so I had too. I went with the mild sauce because I was informed it can get spicy, and I'd agree -- the heat level was perfect. They had great service, accommodated a table of 6, and I would definitely go back.

The Capt Loui sauce was amazing, just the right amount of heat. Got the snow crab, clams, calamari and shrimp. Along with the garlic noodles it was the perfect meal. Server was amazing, very friendly and helpful. Also BYOB, so the meal along with a bottle of sparkling wine was just lovely.

Food was great, service was good but our server was a little slow but she did come back a few times to apologize as she was pulled a few time to sing happy birthday to other patrons. We were charged $6 for a cup of sauce when asked for a side of sauce instead. The restaurant was split into different sections and had trees in the ceiling, something I never seen before. And the beignets were delicious!

My goal is to visit every Cap't loui in the NY/NJ area and report back to Yelp with which one or which ones are my favorites. The seafood at this particular location was fresh and did not taste dried out like other seafood spots I've been to. The waitress was so nice, she offered complimentary rice for my 1 year old who seemed to have enjoyed it *judging by the mess he made* The area seems to be like an integrated township with many small shops nearby. Definitely will be returning.

I got take out, the fisherman's Platter this includes two fish sticks, shrimp, calamari with a soft shell crab and fries. The fish sticks were good but didn't have a good crunchy batter which was disappointing. The calamari was pretty good as were the shrimp. The soft shell crab was very fishy, so I couldn't eat much of it and the fries were nothing special. Leaving a review for the free dessert, but honestly, this place deserves a shining review regardless. Our waitress Kay is so gracious! She explained the menu very well and was attentive. She offered a second pair of gloves, took our picture, and just really took care of us. The food was fresh, well seasoned, and plentiful. The clams were huge, potatoes were sweet, mussels were plump, calamari was tender, Dungeness crabs were meaty, and garlic noodles were delicious. I could drink the Cap't Loui sauce! So glad this place opened up in Montclair NJ area. The seasoning is full of flavor with my choice of seafood of the day! I always get the Capt Loui sauce with medium heat level. It can get spicy very quickly going up the levels so I suggest starting with medium. I also get their wings and smother them in the capt loui sauce to kick it up and the garlic noodles is a must. We did a take-out order the other night and I called ahead because I have a weird food allergy to make sure the food was safe. Spoke to James for the questions and the order and he was wonderful; patient and accommodating. Had the shrimp boil and fish & chips and we couldn't have been happier. James guided us well! This was such a great experience! From the food, service, and atmosphere we had a complete blast! I normally trek to Jersey City for seafood boils, but Cap't Loui has found a new loyal customer! We had the snow crab legs, mussels, garlic noodles, and the Dr. Yellow caprisuns! All of them were 10/10! Treated my friend to a birthday dinner here. Service was wonderful. The food is incredibly delicious! I went hard cause I wanted a little taste of everything. Just a head's up the place is BYOB therefore their popular drink pouches do not include alcohol within them. My friend and I both tried the strawberry lemonade and it was really good! It has a bit of a slush to it and would definitely taste good spiked as well! For an appetizer, we started with the calamari and fries. Although it sounds simple the seasonings and sauces that came along with it really elevated the experience. The cocktail sauce was so fresh! For my main entree, I tried the seafood bag with shrimp, mussels and snow crab. The bag includes two corn and potato pieces. All of the seafood was fresh and it was a generous portion. My friends and I were just walking through downtown Montclair, where we stumbled upon a new Cap't Loui. They claim to serve the "freshest seafood boil tossed in Louisiana style Cajun sauced bags." But with the amount of seafood boils opening in NJ, we were definitely underwhelmed. We ordered their shrimp with the Cap't Loui sauce, which was fine. The lemon pepper fries were bland and soggy, and the side of noodles garlic noodles had no taste. Service was okay; they did forget about our noodles, and it was hard for the waiter to show up with us being the only table sat. I wouldn't recommend this location; there are tastier seafood boils out there. read more

My favorite crab spot ever! Love the seasoning and the crab meat is perfectly cooked so it comes out of the shell easily. I always get 1lb of snow crab with extra corn. Kay provides great and friendly service. If you're a seafood lover, you must check this spot out. read more

We just got our food delivery. Shrimp po boy, snow crab, garlic noodles, and a fish po boy. The food is tasty, however the tails were left on the shrimp in the po boy. I had to deconstruct the sandwich and remove the tails so I could eat it. Not a fan of eating shrimp tails, sorry. read more

The boiler combo is awesome. Just the right amount of heat which is perfect with their capri sun drinks (I got the peach flavor - Mr Rich). I especially like the king crab and mussels. Of course, you can't forget about the insanely addicting garlic butter noodles. The restaurant is small, but very homey. What made our experience over the top is our wonderful server (Kay). Regardless how busy she is, she always has a big smile and is very responsive to all our dining needs (whether it's extra utensils or food selections). It certainly made our first visit to Cap't Louie memorable. Can't wait to go back with the rest of the family in the future! read more

No words can express how awesome Cap't Loui Seafood Boil in Montclair is. The server was Kay and being our first time she guided us to exactly what we didn't know we wanted. I had the Boiler Combo 2lb and my husband had the Fisherman's Platter. They did not disappoint. Strongly recommend the Broiler Combo. I had 1lb lobster tail and 1/2 shrimp 1/2 mussels that was served with red potatoes and the sweetest corn in their medium sauce. AMAZING SEAFOOD!!!! Coming back again with friends. took my husband for Father's Day. I ordered the 2lb seafood boil, we started with the clam chowder only got one cup when we ordered two waitress said another batch is being made. I wasn't able to finish it so I took the rest home. Later that nite I started feeling sick going to the bathroom l, next day felt worst now has diarrhea and vomiting, by Tuesday I went to the doctor I had shellfish poisoning. Called the restaurant spoke to a manager she said she will have the owner give me a call later that day which he never did. it's been a week and I'm still sick doctor it can take up to 14 days to clear out of my system. Please don't eat from this place. read more

I recently visited capt loui, a seafood boil restaurant known for their Cajun-style seafood boils. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a treat. The restaurant had a fun and casual atmosphere with picnic-style tables and benches, which added to the overall experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, explaining the menu options and the best way to enjoy the seafood boil. We ordered the 5 lbs of almost everything seafood boil which included a mix of shrimp, lobster, crab legs, mussels, clams, corn, and potatoes. The boil came out in a large bag, and we poured the seafood and veggies onto the table, creating a fun and interactive dining experience. The seasoning was spot on - just the right amount of spice, and the seafood was cooked to perfection. We also ordered the garlic noodles and they were delicious and the perfect complement to the seafood. Me and my friends were very hungry, and looking for somewhere to eat. We always pass by this spot on our way to Kurt Donavon's Underground Developmental shows, but never had the chance to try it until today. The food was absolutely incredible. My friends got the Boil, and the Tender Bucket, while I got the Chicken Po'Boy. We all have satisfied stomachs, but when we heard about the opportunity for free dessert, we leaped at the chance. I am currently snacking on the Funnel Cake Fries, and they are so sweet and savory. The warm fries and cold ice cream contrast each other in a lovely way. From the moment I walked In, I was greated with a smile from kay my husband came to dine in and came home with dinner and he kept talking about his server kay... he said honey I found another wife she treated me like a king today, I was like that's nice honey I have to try her out and I have no words!!! kay is God given it's one thing when the food is excellent but it's another when the servers are serving excellence. Visited on Super Bowl Sunday for an early lunch! Our waitress was beyond attentive and sweet. Started off with oysters which were very fresh and delicious. We both got fry baskets, one with shrimp the other with crab. Both baskets were the perfect size and the sauces made them delectable. Highly recommend the lemon pepper fries! Cap't Loui is an excellent restaurant with delicious food, service, and atmosphere. While listening to a tantalizing and fun Beyoncé playlist, my family and I enjoyed a lovely seafood spread. Fully equipped with gloves and bibs, we thoroughly enjoyed our seafood feast. The aesthetic and very genuine and kind service made us all feel at home! Highly recommend this establishment! read more

My parents have been looking for a seafood boil in the area since we loved it when we went somewhere in NYC. A friend recommended me this place and it is absolutely amazing!! Everything was delicious from the seafood to the sides. I got the fried shrimp & clam chowder as well, which was also a delicious alternative. Friendly staff! Will def be back here again. read more

Service is amazing. Food was great. Huge portions compared to other places. We ordered dozen oysters, chicken tender, fries and a boil bag with king crab, shrimp, snow crabs which comes with potatoes and corn. The 2 sides we chose was boiled eggs and garlic noodles. Got the mild level spice not spicy for the light weights and medium which is still tolerable. read more

Would give 6 stars if I could. Service and food were amazing! From the time I called with a couple of questions, to then being greeted by a friendly staff upon arrival, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Came here with the hubby and kids on a Tuesday for their oysters happy hour. Everything was SO yummy. Can't wait to come back for sure. read more
