Crab legs, catfish, fried oysters, shrimp.

The service was friendly and prompt. But the best of all were the raw oysters. They were delicious and big. I only get tiny ones in Memphis.

Captain Al's has been a Mississippi Gulf Coast staple for many years, and I love that they are continually making improvements. They used to be located in a small building several miles north of their current location, and it was known for its greatness then. Their staple dish in the steak and shrimp, but they have many other offerings. The restaurant is located in a raised building right next to Bayou Bernard, which connects to the Gulf of Mexico but is located a couple miles north of the beach. They also have a huge marina out front so you can arrive here by boat or car. They have plenty of outdoor seating as well as indoor, so even when the parking lot looks packed, you should go see if a table is available before turning away. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which came with pickled onions and a bunch of large fresh shrimp on top. It was fantastic and way more fancy than we expected. Their dishes come with a ground krab salad (spelled with a K because it's not actually crab but the other stuff) and they are kind of famous for that. The honey mustard dressing has a kick so be ready. We've also had their stuffed jalapenos but wanted to try something different this time. Their staple dish is the steak and shrimp, which also includes a side and I usually go with the stuffed baked potato. The steak is grilled over pecan wood, and it is easily one of the best steaks on the coast. The normal portion is 10-12 ounces but you can upgrade to a 16 ounce. Our was served hot off the grill and perfectly cooked. They also use large plump shrimp and not those dinky little ones you often find at chain restaurants. I usually end up bringing part of the dish home. Service was fantastic and it's the kind of place where they have extra help to clean tables, refill drinks, and so on. You won't be left there with an empty drink if your server gets tied up with another table. I was really impressed by how attentive they were, even on a busy Saturday night. Definitely check out Captain Al's if you're in the area. They have been in business for decades and know what they're doing.

Great place for dining on the water. Captain Al's is a fun casual joint. They offer a wide variety of delicious seafood options and they have some excellent oysters, which is what I usually get there. They have plenty of non seafood options as well as their menu is quite expansive. The service is friendly and welcoming and the space is great for groups large or small. They have a lot of fun cocktails and eating here will make you feel like you're on vacation, even if you're a local like me. Great place to check out!

We took our daughter her husband and 2 kids for dinner Friday night. The place was too warm and uncomfortable. The service was at least decent. However the food was far from deserving the price tag. The fresh catch was redfish, likely imported, served over a mountain of angel hair pasta and a seafood cream sauce for $45. One of the kids asked for the side of crabmeat looked like about 2 tablespoons in crabmeat in a cup of oil for $11. I had 5 small strips of fried catfish a cup of green beans and a tasteless salad for $24. This place is NOT worth the price as the quality of the food isn't worth the price you pay, no wonder the place was more than half empty on a Friday at 730 pm.

Great desserts! They have 2 main desserts - key lime pie and hot fudge brownie. The key lime comes 2 ways: regular and deep fried. The fried key lime pie will change your life. Imagine a world in which a homemade key lime pie is dipped in funnel cake batter, fried, and topped with whipped cream and ice cream. Or, go to Captain Al's and quit imagining! And the brownie is as big as your head on the hot fudge brownie!

Although this wasn't my first visit to Captain Al's, it was my first time experiencing their brunch. Six of my closest friends and I gathered there to enjoy great food and fellowship. We were served by a friendly and attentive staff, and we couldn't stop raving about each other's dishes throughout the meal. Sad I didn't get to experience their Bloody Mary! Each time I saw a waitress pass me with one, my mouth watered!

This was my first visit, and overall it was a great experience. First off, this place is HUGE -- easily feels like it could accommodate 400 people or more -- and it sits right on the water with incredible views. I came in late January 2026 on a beautiful but cold early afternoon and got there right when they opened. For the first 30 minutes I was literally the only customer in the entire restaurant, which was kind of wild. I honestly don't know how they stay in business during the slow season. I'm sure it's packed in the summer, but even when I left around 12:30 PM, there were only two or three tables occupied. That said -- the food did not disappoint. The jambalaya was the star of the show and gets a 10/10 from me. Absolutely packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Right behind that were the charbroiled oysters, which were outstanding. In my opinion, they're even better than Drago's, and that's saying a lot. The only real downside was the cup of gumbo, which unfortunately missed the mark and didn't live up to the Gulf Coast reputation for gumbo. I'd give the gumbo a 4/10. Service was very good, and the decor matched the high level of service -- clean, polished, and welcoming. Even with the gumbo being a letdown, I'll definitely be back. I'll return the first chance I get when I'm in the area again.

They also do amazing shrimp and other seafood. This location is off the beaten path but easy to find due to close proximity to the Interstate. Parking is gravel lot so you just fit your vehicle where you can. Usually if you can find a space, there will be a table open so keep that in mind if you think it might be too busy and you don't want to wait. In addition to the great stuff like boiled shrimp or crawfish, they also have wonderful poboys that are packed with whatever you want on them. I opted for grilled shrimp on my last visit, but fried shrimp is great as well. If you order an optional side, you will get plenty like onion rings, fried okra, or fries. They also have daily specials like shrimp or catfish baskets, and currently on Saturdays you can get a pound of royal reds with potatoes and corn for roughly twenty bucks. Royal reds are a premium kind of deep sea shrimp that are more like lobster and very meaty. I highly recommend trying them if you've only ever had regular gulf shrimp before. Service here is always good because the place is small and they keep it well-staffed. Waitresses will keep your drinks filled constantly and they pay attention well. You won't be ignored here, so service is quick and the food comes out fast. Definitely give this place a try.
