Meet Emmerich, he is the nicest, coolest, most coffee-knowledgeable guy you will meet. He knows and does every aspect of the coffee business. He is old school (beware, no credit cards accepted here), but really amazing. I never tire talking story with him. This little nook in the back of an industrial open bay (next store to Sun Dried Specialties- check them out too!) Is jam packed with everything coffee. It isn't a place just for tourists looking to buy some Kona coffee, but it's the secret go-to spot for locals looking to buy omiyage when we travel and take gifts for others. It is the spot for farmers to come purchase coffee pulpers, baskets, roasters, you name it. He helps out a ton of people here in Kona, and there aren't many other shops selling this kind of stuff. There is a fiercely loyal group of people who order via the phone and send checks. As I said, old school. No website, no credit cards. Not only all the cool stuff I have written so far, but what's amazing about this place, is the quality is great (you guessed it, emmerich does the roasting and bagging himself), but the price in insanely cheap. This is an out of the way stop that was recommended to us by our hotel concierge. We drove down after we were in Kona for snorkeling. Emmerich was busy preparing some coffee beans for roasting when we arrived. He gave us a back story on how coffee is made. We then bought a few bags of coffee, some macadamia nuts, and honey. It was a neat shop, and great prices to get some Kona coffee. I would highly recommend stopping in here if you are looking for some food items to take home from your trip. We've been going to see Emmerich every time we get back into Kona for our Kona coffee. It's so nice to see the great reviews of this gentleman and his customer service. The reviews are spot on. Recently we were in Kona and decided to go see Emmerich for some coffee to take home. As always we got carried away on the quantity and came up short on the $ amount total. (His policy is cash or check only.) We had enough cash for only a partial of what we had picked out. We started to take some of the coffee in the bag out when Emmerich stopped us and said don't worry about it. He said take the coffee and just bring back a check or cash later when we get time. Aloha! We found this business based on a recommendation from a local friend! What a great stop! When you see sign Captain Cook Trading, don't be confused! It look disorganized and it maybe is, but, than elegant charming little gentlemen appears and when you start to talk to him, you will just love his story. His mom is Hungarian, father German, moved here in 1944. He still speaks excellent German! Unfortunately not Hungarian anymore, so I taught him some words ;) (I'm not a Hungarian - just know basics). Emmerich (the owner) let us try some samples before we bought the Mac nuts. We got a lots of coffee and the best priced Macadamia nuts! This place looks a little bit disorganized, because he is cooperating with farmers and selling them some equipment. I had a good time discovering this place. Such a old lovely style! I will definitely be back to buy some coffee and nuts to bring to Northern Europe. I liked the coconut macadamia nuts most and the coffee! He is also selling honey too. Best 100% Kona coffee ever! Meeting Emmerich was worth the trek to this place. His shop is in a light industrial park just past a slab granite contractor. My husband couldn't believe I was taking him to a sketchy location like this. The concierge at the Wyndham said she only gave Emmerich's info out to *real* coffee aficionados. The directions said the office was behind the Pepsi machine. Behind the rusted out Pepsi machine we found Emmerich, a Hawaiian woman, a small coffee roster, sacks of coffee beans and everything else Emmerich sells. It was a fantastic experience! We will never buy Kona coffee or macadamias or cacao pods or whatever else Emmerich sells from anyone else. This have large boxes of different flavored nuts that they pack in front of you. $15/lb for coffee and $11/lb for nuts. It's next to a countertop warehouse so you'll pull in past the chain link fence thinking this is HELLA SKETCH but the office is tucked away right next to it and if you make your way past all the machinery you can have the nice manager help you get what you need! read more

WOW!!! BEST PRICE FOR 100% Kona. And a true Hawaiian experience! We were looking for 100% Kona coffee to take back home to friends and co-workers from Hawaii. We had found the 1lb bags to be $25 - $45 with Kona peaberry coffee at $65. But asked around for a better deal. The instructions were hilarious: Go south past 5 stop lights, turn right at the gas station and go down the hill. go past two fire hydrants on the right side. turn into the driveway for Captain Cook trading. Go past the first bay full of marble and tile counter tops, to the second storage bay. Walk past the boxes piled to the ceiling and you will find Emmerich. We were like "Really??" But, we did, and it took a few missed turns, until we found the nicest man that loves to talk and share his love of coffee with all the world. Emmerich talked with us about the coffee bean, from cherry, to parchment, to roasting. Cash only, so we bought 4lb of coffee at $15/lb. and 3 more lbs. of Mac nuts; honey roasted, Chocolate covered, and Choco / powdered sugar. Again WOW!!! BEST price on the island. Great time, even though we don't drink coffee, I love to find people that are down to earth and love what they do. Emmerich provides the pulping, grinding, and hulling machines to the local farmers. While we were there, one of these "Gentlemen Farmers" came in with a large bag full of his coffee beans for Emmerich to roast for him.
