A very good option for fried seafood/ice cream in the area. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Service was very friendly. The clam chowder was really good; had a decent amount of clam and potato, nice clam flavor, and was served piping hot. Just a bit too thin to be the perfect consistency, but not far off. I tried three different clam chowder's on this trip and Captain Frosty's was my favorite. The fried fish and scallop plate was also really good; both were quality and prepared/cooked perfectly. I have been a loyal customer of Capt Frosty's for over 20 years. Yesterdays visit was quite interesting. My friends and I arrived about 6:30 to a full parking lot. I was a little concerned as I know how crowded it gets both inside and out and knew it may take a bit to get our order. To our surprise there was no lines, no one sitting at any tables inside and the patio was clearing out as well. Only the patio near the ice cream window was a bit crowded. We tried to place an order for 4 of us but were warned there was a 45 min-1 hour wait for our food due to the preceding online orders. What??? While the servers quickly offered ( & handed us) 1 order within minutes (clam cakes & chowder), we wanted to all eat at the same time and politely refused at that time. A manager(?) came out to reiterate the delay after a hushed discussion among he and 2 servers. They tried again to offer chowder and clam cakes which we again asked to have served all at once. As we stood there we tried to say this was quite odd that we had no priority based on their process. No comments. We did order dinner as had no other options at that point. We did wait for about 20-25 mins. Only 3 of the 4 orders were served together. The 4th dinner came 5 mins later after we asked for it. I think a show of good faith may have been an offer of onion rings for our table or at least an offer of a lemonade or tea for all. Management needs to help their staff manage the live audience a bit better. Hoping next year is better for all customers. read more

I've definitely had my fair share of fried seafood/fish and chips and this spot was such a pleasant surprise! I am still thinking back to when we first ordered their fish and chips this past weekend and I can't stop thinking about how FRESH everything tasted!! The fish was perfectly cooked where the fish layers "flake off" and the batter was layered where it is neither too doughy nor falls off entirely. I heard this is the place to go for fried seafood plates on the cape so of course I had to come here. I went with the fried clam belly plate, which came with fries, coleslaw, and 2 clam fritters. I think it was a little under $30, which I thought was a little steep at first but they advertise on their website it's all fresh local seafood so can't complain! For being fried, the clams were still very very flavorful and not too heavy. Easily the best fried seafood I've had. The fries were also good, nice and crispy and not too thick. I wasn't a huge fan of the clam cakes but that's not to say they were bad, just not my thing. There was plenty of seating inside at 2:30 on a Thursday but I imagine it gets busy on weekends during lunchtime. The employees were also very friendly. Even better is to eat on side because fried food doesn't always travel as well. They have seating inside and out. Also the parking lot can be a bit challenging when it's busy but there's usually somebody always leaving since half the business is takeaway. Food is solid - very consistent. Usually stick with some variant of fish and chips or a fried platter but I've also had the salads with seafood and they're good as well. This place is adorable, the space is clean, well thought out, and comfortable. We were able to sit in the back patio which was lovely, plenty of shade. It's a no frills place, but the service was good! Really impressed given that almost everyone working there is young. The food is fresh and made to order and the price is fair. The $30+ "Captains Platter" consisted of EXACTLY 3 whole belly clams, (rubbery); 3 sea scallops, (ok); 6 or 8, slightly larger than a quarter, shrimp, (overcooked); 1 piece of fish that was so small that McDonalds couldn't make 2 sandwiches with it!! I was initially skeptical that I'd be able to find something gluten and dairy free, since most of these places are filled with very breaded seafood. But I was very happily surprised! The menu has a whole salad section with allergen-friendly options, with grilled meat or seafood add ons. I nearly got the grilled scallops with the house salad, but I couldn't ignore my lobster craving. Lobster salad (aka a bun-less lobster roll) isn't listed as an add on, but they fulfilled my request with a smile and zero fuss. Je ne regrette rien. The salad was super fresh with a citrusy vinaigrette, and the lobster salad was even fresher, with a generous portion of meat (not just the small claw bits) and a light coat of mayo. My gluten-loving eating companions were very happy with their lobster rolls, clam strips, and fries -- all still hot and crispy by the time we brought the takeout containers back to the vacation rental. We ordered the fried fish sandwich with cheese, fish and chips and the captain platter... fried fish, shrimp, mussels, scallops and fries. The fried fish was in our opinion too blend, we expected it to be more seasoned--but maybe that is the way it is done, it was after all our first time here in CC.
