Well, I get down on alot of Yelpers for giving bad ratings because I feel they have too high of expectations alot of the time. And maybe Im hypocritical on this one, but when I shell out $260 (out the door including tip) for a family of four, my expectations rise. I mean, $260 is alot of money. For me, the food is just a notch above Golden Corral (which isnt saying much). Perhaps the shrimp and crablegs make it better? But I stay away from shellfish due to allergy. Service was good with a pleasant enough waitress and layout and atmosphere was fine. And thats why I go 2 star instead of one. Wow. Let me start by saying that. The food was fantastic, the stuffed mushrooms was like they took crab cakes and threw them into the mushrooms! Snow Crab legs were cooked to perfection, when cracked the meat fell right out. Ashley was our bartender and server, who with everything that is going on in the world today...just had such a pleasant and sunny disposition. Food was absolutely delicious. Service on the other hand... not so much. Our server wasn't kind and never said more than one word to us. A simple "You're welcome" or "Everything okay?" goes a long way in customer service. Unfortunately customer experience doesn't seem important here. Captain George's is following the guidelines for COVID-19. The atmosphere was still inviting. There was always a flow of food and it was hot. The waiter was very helpful in leading us through the new procedures for the buffet. He picked up that we had interest in music. He was very knowledgeable in the 70's and 80's music. This is my second time coming to Captain George's and I must say, I really love the atmosphere and the food! First of all... unlimited fresh crab legs? Yes PLEASE! I honestly don't need to say more. For this to be a buffet, the crab legs are really really good and taste very fresh. Very meaty. They come in regular and they also had Cajun seasoned crab legs which weee seasoned all the way through to the meat. Captain George's has everything you can think of, and the quality is amazing for a buffet. Oysters, mussels, crawfish, fried fish, chicken, tons of side dishes, and even dessert. Their drink menu is pretty extensive too. If you're lucky, you can get a table that has a TV on it! We've gotten one each time. Lots of TV's in the bar area to watch all the sports your heart desires. It is pretty costly, but well worth it. read more

Apparently Covid is no longer an issue in the Outer Banks, especially at Captain George's. Little to no masking at all, staff or patrons. They pack people in with absolutely no regard for distancing at all. In fact, the only area that wasn't crammed with people were those that they couldn't fill because of the lack of staffing coverage. I would not recommend this restaurant at all if you are concerned with Covid. Seems like this joke of a restaurant wants to exist as if it were pre-Covid times to pull in as much money as they can. It was not an inexpensive meal, but we felt it was very good value for $35.99 per person for the dinner buffet. Great selection of tasty, well-presented food - the buffet is kept tidy and is constantly replenished. There is a full salad bar, hot food section including beef, pork, asparagus, and other non-seafood items, a fried & baked seafood section, a dessert & fruit section, and -- the star: the fresh & steamed seafood section! They had small & large steamed clams, mussels, and various types of crab: dungeness crab, snow crab, steamed blue crab, and soft shell blue crab (which is currently in season) -- wowza!! The crab is the star attraction and we were really impressed. One star off for the steamed clams which unfortunately were tough and rubbery. Darn, I was looking forward to them! But that was the only bummer point. Everything else was delicious. My favorites were the various types of crab (with the regular melted butter and also the spicy garlic melted butter) and the baked crab imperial. The fresh fruit was also really good, and a perfect way to end the meal. For those who like dessert, the banana pudding, baklava, chocolate cake, and carrot cake looked yummy! Well for starters, this is a seafood buffet. For $35 a head? Amazing deal!!!! Unlimited crabs was my favorite. Various options on the crabs, as well! The reason for this place not being a five star rating would be the other options there --- mahi mahi, tuna, and salmon. These are the prime seafood people want to try out besides the crabs, shrimp, oysters, and mussels. Those fish options were not good. So disappointed in their buffet..... The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because our menu item meals were great. Wish the same can be said about the buffet but can't. My 14 year old found nothing appetizing enough to go back for seconds of and he tried it all. Shrimp was mushy (from frozen) and the crab legs were rubbery as well. Crawfish was not spiced at all; just boiled in water :( With all this local seafood sources, you would think they would use them but they don't. Mac and cheese was very orange. Oysters are not in season yet they have oyster rockefeller on the buffet and offer half shell of the menu. Why eat/offer prev frozen oysters?? Waitress seemed surprised we knew we could order off menu and already pitched the special drink that you can get a free glass with light up ice cube for $15 called pirates passion. So we tried it not knowing the cost. The entire liquor menu has no prices listed so you may want to ask before ordering. It was a good fruity drink but not enough alcohol for a drink that's supposed to have 3 diff rums in it. While I'm eating my menu meal, she already asked me if I wanted a box. WTH??? Its a buffet and we're all still eating expect people to take a while to eat their $33 worth of food. She was definitely rushing us...which I hate being rushed. My kids enjoyed the watermelon the most which is sad for the price you pay to eat here. Got my check, was told to take my time but already back asking if I was ready to pay it. Either you mean it take your time or wait to give me the check when everyone is done eating. After getting the check, your drink refills stop unless its water. What a shame. All this place cares about is getting your and your tip on an overpriced bill. 2 specialty drinks, salmon, fried shrimp, 1 adult buffet, 1 kid buffet and 2 sodas = $160 tab before tip. Our family always visits Captain George's while on vacation. The price of the buffet went up a little from past years but we were told it was due to their cost increasing, which is expected. I was told the crab legs were good as always. I didn't get the buffet so I ordered off the menu, they got my order wrong. I was not impressed about how slow it took to correct my order 20+ minutes and most people were almost done eating when I got my food, but it happens oh well.
