Most of the time they are good, but can't give it more than three stars, because it is "sometimey." When you pay good money for nice sized crabs and end up with a bag of whiteys (light crabs for DC non-natives) it can turn a good meal bad real fast. I had light ones Friday and we were pretty annoyed. I know some crab places that let you know when the crabs are light and price them appropriately. I know the meat is in a shell, but they know when the crabs are running light. I'd rather eat smaller heavy crabs then huge light ones. I ordered 2 pounds of crab legs and 11/2 pounds of shrimp from here.They didn't offer seasoning and they didn't put any on the crab legs.The manager said it was because they were under staffed .I can understand being understaffed but it should not effect the quality of food that is being served . read more

While reading the reviews from this 2020 year, I see that Captain Mo's is trending in the " not so great anymore " department. Especially when you call to place your order, wait in the long social distancing line outside, all to get to the window and find out they GAVE YOUR ORDER AWAY after you called to reserve your crabs?!?! I have been coming to Captain Mo's for over 5-6 years, and the last 2 years, the customer service has been horrible, calling ahead to reserve crabs means nothing, and thier apology for all of this is " You want some free shrimp?' What keeps me coming back?? The crabs, however, sadly, I'll have to find another place. I even went against my better judgement and called today to see how they would handle the issue that occurred with them giving away my crabs from the last time (its only been 2 weeks) I ordered. Terrible customer service. Person who answers phone is rude and don't dare ask him to repeat himself. He will rip your head off. I ordered crabs over the phone. They have one line. One line for pick up, new orders, whatever. Stood in line 20 minutes and it moved four people. I could see that I was gonna be there an hour. I threw in the towel and left. I will not be back to Captain Mo's. Knowing crabs would be in high demand for Memorial Day, I called Mo's Wednesday (5/22)and asked when/if they'd be accepting crab orders for the weekend. They told me they were currently taking orders through Sunday. I placed an order for 1/2 bushel of small male crabs for 4pm. We arrived at Mo's to pick up our order at 3:55. They told us that in spite of us placing our order DAYS in advance, they'd sold all of their crabs and would not be able to satisfy the order. If that were not bad enough, they offered no apology and shrugged it off as though it were no big deal. Terrible customer service. Do not depend on them for your holiday or weekend crab feasts! I have been buying crabs from this place for over a decade and never had a bad thing to say. In fact, I raved about this place to everyone who asked about the best crabs in Maryland. Unfortunately I have to change my review as I was extremely disappointed recently with the level of service I received. First and foremost, If I am paying my hard earned money for crabs $50 and up I expect top notch service. I called ahead of time to place my order and said I would arrive by 1 pm. When I arrived, there were two lines, one for call in orders and another for walk ins. I stood in the call in line for at least 25 minutes to be told my name wasn't on the list. Next I was told they were running behind on orders and asked if I wanted to wait an additional 20 minutes. Needless to say I was highly upset and disappointed at the response that I was given when asked what happened to my order? I was told and I quote "We speak to a lot of people with the same name, we have no way of knowing what happened". Long story less long, I drove from College Park, Md all the way to White Plains, Md to get my crabs, so I wasn't leaving without them. What I will say, is that unfortunately they lost a very valuable and loyal customer. Best crabs in the Charles County Area!!! I always go to this crab spot! I call ahead and when I arrive for pick there is either no wait at all or I stand for about 3-5 minutes. Captain Mo's is my favorite place to buy crabs! I get the Large/Jumbo males which are a little pricey, but are SOOOOO WORTH IT!! When I said large....... the crabs are always good full heavy crabs. It's a 40 minute ride for me, but AGAIN soooo worth it. I always call ahead to reserve my order because as SOON as their doors open the place is CROWDED!! On one visit I had to wait a little longer than usual and I got a pound of jumbo shrimp for the wait. AGAIN ..... worth it. Someone complained about the flies.... this is not a sit down restaurant, it's a grab and go crab shack. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Some of the best crabs I've had! Had to call the day before to order the jumbo crabs because they sell out fast. I bought a dozen of jumbo crabs for $80 and it was worth it. They were all heavy and the meat was sweet. Whoever answers the phone is very impatient and he was short with me and had a smart mouth (boy bye) but when I went in the ladies at the register were very nice. When I'm in PG or Charles County, this is where I go for crabs. Their crabs are actually good and full of meat. Their mediums the smallest I would go, but the large female or male crabs are what we usually aim for. Males are good for more meat, and the females are a good flavor especially if you eat the other stuff besides just the meat. This place is always busy and can be a tad of a wait. Best thing to do is order ahead on the phone then pick up. Their crabs are fresh and tasty. Depending on whether it's a holiday or a busy game day, prices can vary. Overall, they are pretty reasonable and well worth it. The last time we came here, we were able to get a 3 dozen male larges for around $80. I have been here many times and I am always happy with my crabs......BUT TODAY I PURCHASED A DOZEN FEMALES AND ALL OF THEM WERE POOR!!!!! This is one of my go -to places for crabs. Their mediums are the size of many places large crabs and their large crabs are the biggest I ever ate. It's not cheap though. A dozen mediums are about $40 to $45 the last dozen of large were $60. It lasts me and my four year olds through three meals, so I tolerate the price. The crabs are generally heavy and filled with meat. They run out of the larger sizes early. The only reason they don't get more stars is their price. read more

The little red head young lady with the glasses that works at the register is very rude and does not care or respect the customers.When I walked in she was being loud and obnoxious flirting with a man at the register and showing him pics in her phone. I called my order in over the phone 2 hours before I arrived and after I got all the way down there (I live 25 miles away) she told me the debt machine was not working!! We decided to call Sunday before going and was informed they we're out of #1 males.We explained to them what we were told, their response was pretty much oh well. We called other places just to be told the same thing.We called back an hour later to find out they had 2 bushels of number ones (amazing huh) but they wanted 300 dollars!!!!!! This is the only place I go for crabs since I moved to Waldorf in 2002. Captain Moe and Mrs. Moe are the kindest people you'd ever want to meet. Their staff is always kind, friendly and helpful when you go in (and on the phone). They have the best meaty crabs that I've ever tasted. They are large and heavy. I used to go to the wharf in SW DC to get crabs, but that was before I experienced what real large crabs were. That's what I get at Moe's and I wouldn't dare go anywhere else. The only problem that I have with Moe's is that I wish they would stay open all year long. I could eat crabs everyday (I usually eat them 3 times a week anyway). I'm just saying if you want good quality crabs then you have to get them from Moe's. Some may complain about the price, but I've come to realize that you pay for quality. If you want small, empty, less expensive crabs, then go to SW DC and that's where you'll find them. For my money, I'm going to Moe's. It's always best to call ahead and place your order so you're sure to get them before they run out. read more
