Amazingly good coffee. I was staying in the downtown area and was happy to find this place near my hotel. I order three hot vanilla lattes for myself and two other family members. Oh my! The coffee was rich, velvety smooth while the milk was steamed just right. Specialty coffee takes time to prepare so it was worth the wait. Staff didn't cap the lattes which I appreciated. I take that first sip before I cap when taking it to go. I wish I had time to sit down to enjoy it. There was plenty of seating. I will definitely come back when I visit Monterey. I did grab one of their pins for my coffee apron at home.
Took a day trip out to Monterey and had to stop by Captain + Stoker. Heard good things about this spot and it didn't disappoint. We ordered the golden latte and vanilla latte. Both were good but would definitely double down on the vanilla lattes next time. We showed up in the afternoon on a weekday and all the pastries were out, so I'd recommend coming early to try any of those. Parking was easy and the employees were super nice!
Everything about this place was amazing! I got an oat milk cappuccino and their espresso was so smooth and delicious. The ambience was clean, inviting and made me feel so happy just walking in there. The service was great. They were super fast despite being incredibly busy. Even if you had to wait a little bit, it is so nice in there that it's relaxing. It's a vibe, definitely a must try.
This coffee shop is so beautiful, I loved that bike hanging there. Super creative! Their coffee is really good. I tried their Colombia and Panama pour over and the Colombia is my favorite one. You should definitely try that one. The pastries were not that great, I didn't like the one made with peanut cream, and muffin was whatever but I'm here reviewing the coffee:) the service was amazing, the girl that took my order was very nice.
Captain + Stoker is one of the premier coffee shops recommended by Yelp users, so I had to try it! The interior is cute and bicycle decorated, and there's tons of indoor seating with people crafting, working, and engaging in pleasant conversation. There's a long street bordering Captain + Stoker with lots of parking alongside it. It's less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Monterey, so I would highly recommend this for anyone coming from out of town who wants good coffee and something nearby the tourist attractions. The hot latte was yummy and frothy, I see why this location has the hype that it does.
Local coffee shop with beachy vibes and random bike decor. They have some seasonal drinks in addition to the standard menu. I also saw quite a few bottled juice selections which seemed pretty interesting. Got an iced coffee for $4 and an iced seasonal gingersnap latte for $6.75. Quality was good and the flavored lattes aren't too sweet! Staff are friendly and the hot drinks come out in cute custom cups.
Popped in here last Tuesday morning after yoga as it was across the street from the Monterey Gym. We found across the street parking and didn't have to wait too long for a table. I went for their croissant sandwich (forgot the name) but they gave me extra veggie instead of the ham. I love that avocado is everywhere in CA. The croissant was fluffy and buttery and delish! The matcha latte was more of a green tea latte. They use an organic blend by Rishi. So it's not a traditional ceremonial grade matcha. But it was fine. My husband liked his coffee and croissant sandwich as well. I liked the vibes of this place, not too touristy, beautiful decor. Good drinks and food. Perfect spot post workout!
We came by early on a Saturday before our whale watching tour. I found myself saying "if I ever owned a coffee shop, I'd want it to be just like this..." that's how much I loved this spot. Ok so we shared an avocado toast which was divine - super fresh avocado, the right amount of olive oil, flaky salt and red pepper flakes. Yummm! Then we also got a pastry and their special "peach be with you". I will say - as much as it was tasty - the thickness of the bread vs toppings just wasn't quite right. I won't ding stars though for my preference. Overall we just loved this spot and great to come by with a dog too!
Absolutely love Captain + Stoker! We had stayed in Monterey for a night and needed a pick me up before a long day, and thankfully found this spot. There was a line, but it was well worth the wait! The baristas were friendly and the atmosphere was so good. Stayed in to enjoy our lattes and pastries. We got iced vanilla lattes with macadamia milk, and arguably, it was the best latte we've had in a long while. Also got a couple of morning buns and an almond croissant. The pastries were elite. Great texture and flavors. Loved our visit so much that we snagged a tee and some beans. Can't wait to come back again and support an awesome cafe!
I am writing to report a serious and concerning incident involving a beverage I purchased today. Earlier today, I ordered a coffee and also purchased a pressed juice called "Recoverade." The coffee was fine, but I consumed the juice gradually throughout the day. When I reached about one-third of the bottle and attempted to drink the chia seeds at the bottom, I noticed the texture was unusually chunky and felt extremely strange--similar to shards. I immediately spat the contents back into the bottle and inspected it. Upon closer examination, I discovered what appear to be shards of glass inside the drink. This has caused me significant distress and concern for my safety, as I may have unknowingly consumed some of the contaminated product. This situation is extremely serious and poses a major health risk. I have a little cut in my lips I am requesting the following: An immediate investigation into this incident
My partner and I visited this open-to-air coffee shop after seeing it on Instagram reels. I ordered the avocado toast and an iced Captain's blend, and they ordered the banana and peanut butter toast, and an iced vanilla latte. Our coffees were yummy and our toasts were very fresh. We had to wait a bit for seating, but people were filing in and out pretty quickly.

Best local coffee Don't go to Starbucks (I'm a Starbucks junkie...just sayin) while in Monterey .... This is a must visit place ! They are passionate about coffee...great folks running this place The banana PB toast is delicious but their special Cali Toast was AMAZING! I love watching their pour over machine at work ... I gotta get this on my next visit !! *The wait was 30 min to order and 15 min to get all our goods .... Worth The Wait !!!! read more

Husband and I loved loved this place! We discovered it on the way out of town and wished we had found it sooner. Loved the vibes of the shop especially it being near old cars in a "garage" style shop. I bought stickers, coffee beans, and a tumbler to take home with me. My boyfriend and I came to Captain Stroker during the summer when we visited Monterey from Southern California. We just wanted to get a good cup of coffee in the morning but didn't even expect this to be our favorite coffee shop and bean ever! Living in Los Angeles, there so many coffee shop- but Captain Stoker has still been our favorite. It's truly the best quality coffee, which every sip is so well balanced. We ordered another bag of "The Captain" after absolutely loving the first one. Also, we absolutely are obsessed with these super cool stickers too!! read more
Good coffee option near the beach with great decor and a nice atmosphere. I came on a Saturday morning and there was a line onto the sidewalk of people waiting to order. The shop is very cute with lots of open space, some vintage bicycles, and very woodsy rustic decor. The staff were nice and courteous and the service was very efficient. I ordered the snickerdudes latte which was a fall seasonal latte and a chocolate croissant. The latte was a bit on the milkier side so the coffee flavor was not very strong, but the syrup and tasty and lightly sweet. The croissant was similar to an average croissant, though it might have been better if it had been warmed up. There's lots of 2hr parking spots in the surrounding area, though it can get pretty busy, so those spots might be hard to find. There's also paid parking closer to the pier which is only about a block away, which makes it a great spot if you're looking to grab a coffee and head to the beach! read more

I stopped here twice in one week. Their coffee is that good. We needed a caffeine fix when we first got into town and decided to stop by after seeing a picture of their ice latte on the app. A very friendly cashier recommended their popular oat milk latte with their homemade vanilla syrup. We got two ice lattes and they did not disappoint. I decided to get a hot oat milk latte the second time which had a beautiful heart latte art. Their coffee is rich and creamy, but not too sweet. I ordered a slice of avocado toast which was amazing! They use a great quality bread topped with good portion of avocado spread, a generous amount of arugula, olive oil, sea salt, and red pepper flakes. I know every coffee shop has avocado toast, but I highly recommend theirs. Next time I want to try their peanut butter ball. Their staff was welcoming and very friendly. There is hipster vibe, but I don't mind. Great coffee and service. I will be back the next time I'm in town. read more

I loved this little coffee place! It is soooo cute and aesthetic. The staff is wonderful. It can get super packed quickly! This coffee place is spacious and loud but with great vibes. There's plenty of parking around the coffee shop. We ordered over macadamia nut latte and iced vanilla oat latte. I normally don't like oat milk in my coffee but I've seen so many reviews about it and decided to give it a try. It was delish!! Our drinks came out super quick even tho there was a long line. We will definitely be back here for coffee when we're in the area! You should definitely give this place a try! read more

My oh my Captain + Stoker! You have seriously impressed me!!! This self-proclaimed coffee snob is in love! First off, the is the cutest store nestled on a corner in Monterey. The inside is spacious and inviting. The staff are absolutely wonderful! My vanilla latte was perfection! Loved it so much I came back the next day. I also bought some ground coffee to go since I don't live around here. The pastries were phenomenal! I don't know where they get them but kudos! My blueberry muffin was delicious and I devoured it quickly. My son got the chocolate croissant and I didn't get a chance to taste it because it was gone in minutes. GO CHECK THEM OUT IF YOU LOVE COFFEE!! You won't be disappointed. *they aren't taking cash at this time due to covid. **their merchandise is legit awesome read more
Everytime I take a Monterey day trip, I make sure to grab some captain + stoker. Had the iced vanilla latte and matcha latte and they never disappoint. I will say the vanilla and sweetness is more mild at this shop, so if you have a sweeter tooth, ask for extra vanilla or flavoring! Always recommend this to all my friends! G R E A T Coffee! This spot was highly rated, and I can see why. Ordered the chai latte, which was delicious, and even tried the morning bun(great decision). Building has a great vibe about it, and the whole place is very airy. Highly recommend getting your coffee fix 'for here', grabbing one of their huge cups, and enjoying the energy of the shop. So stoked on Captain + Stoker! This is a gem of a coffee shop and a must-stop in Monterey. The shop has those large, roll-up garage style doors, so even stepping in to order felt very Covid-friendly (plus everyone is wearing masks, of course). It's a very spacious, airy and bright cafe with a very warm, welcoming staff. I remember when we first discovered this awesome cafe last year, and how we were admiring the large, beautiful, natural wood community table. Oh man, will community/communal tables ever be a thing anymore post-Covid? I hope so! That table is a work of art! My hubby and I love their coffee, of course, but we also love their Matcha Oat Latte and Chai Latte, which features a special Chai from Australia. Not sure if they still do that, but one of the times I ordered it (pre-Covid), that's what the barista told me. It's a strong, rich Chai for sure, and super delicious! If you're in Monterey and looking for a solid spot to grab coffee or tea, do yourself a favor, skip the usual tourist-ridden places (you know the ones), and treat yo'self to Captain + Stoker! read more

The taste of the oatmilk lattes was great but the paper straws did not hold up well. Recommend grabbing multiple straws to go. Very busy when we went on a Sunday morning. We waited about 20 minutes. read more

I was in Monterey for one night and wanted to find a really great coffee spot before I drove up to Napa and I'm so happy I found Captain + Stoker. I was there close to when they opened (love that they open so early!), and there were already a few people getting coffee. The service was excellent, especially for being so early. The coffee was amazing and the avocado toast was beyond delicious! My only complaint is that they don't have a location in LA! read more

Food was awful I couldn't even finish it. Expected more but it was literally just toast, arugula, so much oil, and a pinch of salt all in one corner...matcha was good tho. Order taking took a while as they had someone new on the register, most items were sold out. Cute place tho. read more

The quality of their drinks are 5/5. You can taste that they put in a lot more effort in their drinks to make sure the flavors are incorporated well. For $4.50 a drink (+.50 milk sub or house made vanilla add on)- it's so worth it! I recommend the latte, either cold or hot (they're both good) but the foam on the hot latte is too die for! read more
Absolutely incredible! My fiance had the latte with oat milk and I just had a drip coffee. It's probably one of the most flavorful drip coffees I've ever had! I've definitely had my share of coffee so that's saying a lot. The vibe of the coffee shop was super fun and modern. Just a fun place to hang out and all of the windows were open which gave it a breezy vibe. Although it would have been a fun place to hang out, it's also super busy because the coffee's so good! It's within walking distance of the fisherman's wharf and it's such a great place to stop by before going on a walk by the ocean. Highly recommend! read more

I enjoyed my single original espresso with a muffin. Great service! people were nice and helpful. And the most important thing for me was that it was a dog friendly coffee ahop. Great environment to set and enjoy your cop of coffee. P.s. their peanut butter ball are delicious too! read more
