The Baja Bowl
Giselle M.

I'm a huge fan of fresh cold-pressed juices and Açai bowls, so I was happy to see this juice shop during my first visit to The Crossroads Carmel earlier this year (right before the pandemic hit). My husband and I occasionally make Açai bowls at home, and eat them regularly when we're in Hawaii. They were definitely a regular part of my diet when I lived in Hawaii too! So we tried The Baja Bowl, and while it definitely hit the spot in the moment taste-wise, the texture was pretty icy and unfortunately wasn't anything special compared to other Açai bowls we've had before. We went back another time for a juice, and again it was refreshing and tasty, but nothing special for the price we paid. The store itself is really nice from the outside, and bright and fairly spacious on the inside, but the big laminated menu boards and clutter on the counters make it look more generic and Jamba Juice-y. Plus the abundance of single-use plastic is bothersome and not eco-friendly at all, as other Yelpers have already mentioned. For a company that promotes health, superfoods and natural ingredients, you would think they would be more conscious of their carbon footprint and the health of the planet too.

Banana Berry Blast, Purple Rain

These smoothies were 9$ a piece with little to no flavor whatsoever. Entire strawberries and frozen bananas unblended left in the drinks and they taste like powdered tap water. This may be the worst drink place I've ever been to lmao.

Taste the Rainbow + Protein
Chandni D.

Came here on a Monday around 1pm and there were only a few people ahead of us. We ordered a pitaya bowl and the taste the rainbow smoothie. The pitaya bowl (which I thought would be topped with pineapple) was ok - it didn't really taste like pitaya. The base was more like strawberry + a lot of ice which was a little off putting but with the granola, honey, and fruit it was fine. The smoothie was the same, found it to be more ice than fruit and was frankly and little chunky. Also, there was only one person in the store manning the cash register and making everything so it did take about 15-20 mins to get our order (with like 3 people in front of us) but the surrounding area and a few other places had seating so we waited. She was really nice and doing her best given she was alone so nothing against her for the wait! Overall, this place was ok, satisfied the craving but wasn't like over the moon over what we got.

I've tried this place twice. Both times they were out of ingredients. My second choice bowl just tasted like ice.

Use to be so good, but lately hasn't had anything and bowls are a weird texture. Service is also slow.

Absolutely awful tasting - do not recommend to anyone! No flavor and way over priced. Very disappointing

SCW and I stopped into El Cantato while staying in Monterey Bay. This place was a priority for me…read moreas it's all plant based and Mexican. Parking is sparse in front of the restaurant but paid parking is nearby. We entered and wow, the place was busy. Not overwhelming but lots of people in the indoor dining area enjoying their food. The menu is overheard and we decided what we wanted and ordered. The employees were kind and helpful, we probably were the only people that didn't speak Spanish well in the restaurant but that wasn't an issue, SCW got the number 2 combo, I got the mole. Also ordered an appetizer. Seated and waited about 10 minutes and our order came out. Everything was freaking amazing. Such great flavors and so fresh. Even SCW who doesn't necessarily gravitate towards Mexican food made nom nom nom sounds the whole time. The mole was incredible, the best I've ever had. The whole time we were here it was an endless stream of customers, even late lunch hour. SCW was impressed by the contrast stream of people coming in. We even walked around the wharf nearby for a while and drove past again and it was still packed with people. Do yourself a favor and visit El Cantato. I know I will.

This is an amazing Vegan restaurant. I was in the area for the day and found this place. I haven't…read morebeen to many Mexican restaurants with any vegan options let alone a full Vegan menus. It took our party (8 people) a while to decide as we were spoiled with choices. But we had time as it was pretty busy for a Friday around 1. I ended up getting the carne asada nachos and the aqua Fresca that they had that day (mango and watermelon I think). Both were absolutely spectacular. The picture included might not show the best scale but I had 2 others helping me to eat this plate and otherwise I would not have been able to finish it (even as a larger man). The crunchy jalapeños with the chips, beans and guacamole were the perfect balance. As a meat eater, the texture of the faux meat was a touch odd, but the flavor more than made up for it. The staff was helpful and attentive even as they were balancing supporting customers, answer phone orders, and taking regular orders. My wife and will definitely be stopping by here more often!!
