This place is amazing. You will read reviews about the things that are missing such as a microwaves, a refrigerator and other modern day amenities. If you are looking for those things, you may want to stay elsewhere. ANYONE who wrote one of those reviews as a negative, CLEARLY missed the point of this place. It is a beautiful inn built in 1907....AGAIN 1907!!!! It has been tastefully updated as much as possible to keep the rustic charm/feeling that you definitely want when you stay at an inn such as this. A private room with a private bathroom is a must ! Our stay was amazing and we cannot wait to return. *The only negative* The staff were not personable and seemed disconnected. The shower situation is too open. There was a clear glass shower door and a curtain that has openings you can see through. There are two stalls, a sink and a shower. If you lock the main bathroom door, then you're keeping anyone from using the restroom at all. If you leave the main door unlocked while showering, guys will come in and leave the main door open. we will be dreaming about this place for the rest of forever and that is not an exaggeration ok so the backstory: we did NOT plan to stay here. my partner got a bad migraine on our drive home to Seattle and we suddenly needed a dog-friendly place to stay, immediately, on short notice. we found captain whidbey in a bit of a desperate scramble and oh my god it literally changed our lives. we stayed in one of the cabins and it was PERFECTION. like every single detail: the local treats they leave out, the robes, the fireplace, the cozy bed with a view of the actual ocean. i just laid there in disbelief (with a big ol smile) that this was real life. stunning doesn't even cover it. and THEN. the restaurant. oh my GODDDDDD. the cherry on top of the most perfect accidental stay. the food was creative and beautifully executed and the service was just incredible: so warm and personal. they were SO accommodating to my many dietary restrictions without a single moment of awkwardness, which honestly made me want to cry a little (in a grateful way). also!!! BREAKFAST DELIVERED TO YOUR CABIN IN THE MORNING!!! they just bring it right to your door and you eat it in your robe by the fire and look at the ocean and you think "yes. this is it. Service was good but they were very busy and seemed short staffed so drink orders were not speedy. However, they weren't so slow you felt totally abandoned! Well we were there on a Sunday afternoon knowing we were a bit early for their 4 pm opening for dining. Checked in at the front desk and a nice lady explained how we might dine there while including our dog. Outside dining area and one goofy bench/table within the lobby. They had a dog too in the lobby. We explored the property and dock and it's quite quaint, cute and peaceful. But people had probably already checked out for the weekend. Right before 4 people started filing in and we thought we would grab a seat outdoors. So I checked in again being told to go to the back entrance by the outdoor dining above the water. A nice young server inside was clueless about guiding us to a seating with a dog but explained that the outside was closed due to yellowjackets. There were absolutely no such thing At any moment we were there. I know because I deal with these pests often at work this time of year. I think they didn't want to mess with outdoor service! They have a great setup out there with a small beer and Bev bar but the dog had to go back to the car!! So then we enter back through the lobby and the lady said that they don't ever communicate with the front desk about how they are operating the dining. Really poor organization here was my big takeaway. Finally We sat, ordered drinks and food. My server forgot a simple lemon wedge requested in my Hefe and our cider and beer was served in sort of silly little jelly jars? I was expecting a real pour of hefe with lemon in a pint glass. Very limited menu!! I would have loved some fish and chips but settled for a burger. She ordered salmon. My burger was good and small fries but nothing special or large. She liked her salmon but it was a tiny portion at $47!!? Overall the service and staff was die organized and avg at best. The food and beverage good yet small sized and way overpriced! Another meal on the island where we chose to through money at an experience and it left us underwhelmed. Over $100 for burger and fries, small cider and beer, and small artisan salmon entree. But if budget and time isn't important to you it leaves a nice option for a dining experience in this area. read more

This place is a gem. The moment you walk into the lodge, you can feel the history. Between the wood-burning fireplace, the views, and the atmosphere, it's the perfect spot to truly unplug. The grounds are beautiful and offer plenty to do--walking paths, bikes, canoes/kayaks, board games, cornhole, a meditation room with a sauna, and even a giant hammock. There are no TVs here, and that feels intentional. The restaurant was excellent--fresh, local food with thoughtful details, like dried fruit in my drink and even in my husband's Diet Coke. The vegan options were delicious, which my husband really appreciated. It's rare to find a restaurant where we both have equally good choices. The staff was outstanding. I'm going to open this review by pointing out that the main lodge is 21+. This is not clearly mentioned up front on their website, except in the FAQ, or if you book the room directly from them, and did not show up as a restriction when booking our room (with our 2-year old) online. If you book through a third-party site (as many of us do), you might never be aware of this until you arrive (like us). It didn't seem to be an issue when we checked in and received our key, or inquired about borrowing a pack-and-play crib, but it was mentioned once, a little snottily, during "quiet hours" (10pm-8am) around 10:05 PM, when he fussed the one and only time all night, for about 2 minutes. I would expect that, upon check in, someone should have said something then, if it was going to be a problem, since he was visibly with us the entire time. Thankfully, this was the only mention of it being a problem, and notably from only one particularly grumpy neighbor whose stomping, door-slamming and snoring were dozens of decibels louder. I guess that's why each room has a white noise machine, huh? It certainly worked for us, to drown him out! Other than that less-than-ideal interaction, we loved our stay at Captain Whidbey! I'd earmarked it as a place to check out in previous years, but never made it for one reason or another. The lodge itself may be a gorgeous, rustic cabin, full of creaky floors and paper-thin walls (good luck getting imtimate without the neighbors complaining!), but it would be hard to beat in the category of old world maritime aesthetic, and all of those things only add to its charm! There's a fantastic on-site restaurant & bar (4pm-10pm) and an espresso stand (7am-2pm), and you can pretty much take anything back to your room, if you'd like. The rooms themselves are a little on the smallish side, but they are very cozy and come with fantastic views of Penn Cove. The bed is firm, but strangely very comfortable; all of us slept like babies...even the baby! Bathrooms and showers are clean and spacious, but shared, and there is only one shower per gender, so you may need to plan ahead accordingly. The grounds also includes a sauna and wellness center, which we were warned takes some time to heat up, so plan ahead a good 30 mins if you are looking to use it. There are also multiple firepits (with wood provided), life jackets and rentable kayaks (in the summer months), and plenty of cozy places to curl up with a book and relax. There are some caveats to enjoying your time at Captain Whidbey, but if you know what to expect, and plan accordingly, your time spent here is sure to be a memorable one. read more

The reservation experience was horrific! After I reserved, a text asked me to pre check-in with a ton of info they clearly already had. That made me nervous, so I phoned to confirm the date and room details. They brusquely referred me to Expedia and hung up on me. After Expedia dropped my call three times, I called Captain Whidbey back. They were surly and I had to stop them three times from hanging up, at which point they relented and confirmed the dates and number of beds. How hard could it have been to politely provide that info on my first call? They acted as if, for over $200 per night, they were doing me a favor. The receptionist was only slightly less curt. The restaurant service was friendly but the food mediocre and overpriced: we split a glass of wine, three slices of underwhelming bread (*not* worth $8), a so-so fish entree, and a mediocre dessert, which with tip came to over $100. So, had we not split everything that would have totalled $200. The next day we chose to drive 10 minutes to a restaurant where we spent $30 for a burger that was, all around, an infinitely better experience. read more

The log structure is a 117 years old and is really nice, in a rustic way. There is a great view of Penn Cove and the grounds are really nice. The service was friendly and attentive. Outstanding ambience and delicious beverage selection. Popped by with a few friends after Musselfest for a night cap. The entrance to the quaint lodge opens to a large stone fireplace and a wall of windows overlooking the water. We grabbed seats at their bar along the back. Came to Captain Whidbey a couple of weeks ago to celebrate my fiance's birthday. We had never been before, but heard lots of things and wanted to check it out! The woman at the front desk who greeted us in the lodge was friendly, helpful, and graciously gave us 2 robes even though we were staying in the lagoon rooms. Since many photos of guests are all in the same robes, we opted to leave ours at home assuming we'd get one, but apparently these are only for lodge guests who share a bathroom. Makes sense. Our lagoon room was simple, and had the amenities we'd need for a two night stay. With the addition of our robes we were happy campers! We arrived to the beautiful property around 8pm on a Friday and were surprised to find that the heat had not been turned on in our room. We are absolutely all about trying to conserve energy, but it was a rare 32 degrees and the room was freezing!! The walls are incredibly thin (not surprising for an old building) so definitely bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Also, not much privacy in the lagoon rooms if you want to have any natural light coming in, which wasn't a bother for us but could be for some folks. We used the sauna just off the relaxation room which took us a while to figure out/heat up, but once we got it cranking it was nice. There were no tissues in the tissue box, no eucalyptus oil (mentioned for the sauna) and no decaf tea options on site. These are silly little things but to us they seem an easy fix and go a long way in making us feel like we're cared for, especially when we're spending $400/night. On Saturday we had coffee at the cafe on site (lovely!) and explored the island, coming back excited to use the sauna once more. Unfortunately, we were told that the staff was doing a training in the relaxation room, and the sauna was unavailable to us. Weird, we thought, but ok. We came back several hours later to find that the staff was STILL using the relaxation room. With some push back they allowed us to use the sauna, but we found it extremely odd that this wasn't mentioned at time of booking. We love a sauna, and probably would've picked a different weekend if we knew this amenity would not be available to us. We had dinner at the restaurant on Saturday evening which was absolutely delicious and the table service was great. The drinks were good, the food was so so yummy and the ambiance was cozy and rustic. Our ($46) short rib was cold in the center, but they immediately refired for us with no issue whatsoever. We definitely appreciated that! We actually loved the restaurant so much that we booked 2 tables for our wedding weekend and are looking forward to coming back to dine with our nearest and dearest! Overall we had a great weekend because we make the most of any situation, but I honestly can't say I'd jump to stay at Captain Whidbey again unless we gave our own cabin a shot, or lowered our expectations a bit. While the grounds are beautiful and the place charming, it feels like there is room for improvement with property management. read more

This Historic 1907 building is a cozy lodge right but the water with rich history, a beautiful garden, peaceful lagoon and a nightly fire. The rooms are split up- with the option to stay in the lodge which shares a bathroom between all rooms or by the lagoon. They do have pet friendly room available as well. The rooms are equipped with a sink and mirror. The beds in the lodge are very comfortable and bathrooms were available around the clock despite It being a weekend with other travelers. I absolutely loved the sitting areas on the second floor of the lodge to enjoy a cocktail or read a book. The downstairs lounge is also a great place to relax and make friends with other guests. The grounds are beautiful and the Chefs garden was great to walk through as was the lagoon with a hammock structure and a nice walk around. There is a gift shop and coffee spot on the property but only open in the morning. Renee and Jordan were very friendly and courteous at the front desk and we felt very welcomed and cared for. Clean and mostly comfortable room. Nice products in the shower. Sitting on the porch of our room, which is part of a very creaky building with very little privacy, you can hear the traffic. Room is minimalistic with no a/c or fan and an extremely small and tight bathroom space; like a room you'd find at a camp (& not a luxury one). Food is overpriced; $44 for this small piece of salmon. $12 dessert was good but it was prettier than it was plentiful. read more

We love coming here for a weekend away. It's very peaceful and relaxing and calming. I love how quiet it is and it's very enjoyable that they offer coffee in the morning at the main lodge. I do wish they had coffee makers in the rooms. There are no televisions in the rooms which could be good or not so good, but I find I enjoy the views more without it. They have a small, cute coffee shop on site, and lots of gardens to see, and an overlook of the water. Highly recommend! read more

I had an allergic issue (all me, allergies are frequent to all kinds of things and a preexisting cold made it worse) They allowed us to switch rooms to a newer part of the property. I really wanted to love this place. And while there are a lot of great qualities about it, you won't have much quiet or privacy as is suggested by the website. We stayed in room 205, the "honeymoon" suite. The floors are so thin that we could hear our downstairs neighbors for hours. We could hear every word of their conversation and they were speaking in reasonable indoor voices. We just wanted a quiet weekend getaway as the website markets and it was quiet the opposite. We couldn't relax at all. When brought up to the staff, we were basically told that they couldn't do anything if the noise fell outside of "quiet hours" and the thin floors are just a reality of an old building. So, the takeaway, don't stay in one of the hotel rooms if you want a quiet and private visit. For the price they charge for the "honeymoon" suite, just get a private cabin. Because there were other aspects we did like about this place (location, food, amenities, style) we'd give it one more try but opt for a cabin. read more

In the mornings they offer pastries and espresso in their little gift shop. There is a lagoon on once side and the bay on the other. Parking was available and different types of rooms offered. We had a great stay at the Captain Whidbey, in the Edit Cabin specifically. Experience's will definitely vary as this property has guest rooms that share a communal hallway bathroom in the older, creakier, thinner walled building that I think surprise people / put them off, skewing the reviews on Yelp. But for those who spring for the pricy cabins, your experience will be totally different. The place was exactly as it looked in the photos. We had a balcony overlooking Penn Cove that was really great, along with a sitting room, bedroom, bathroom and little "kitchen" area that we used to make French press coffee in the morning. The fireplace was also a really nice touch - the cabin got quite cold! The property was really fun - we loved the main inn building (we sat in front of the fireplace and played Scrabble and made complimentary s'mores), the tree net over by the lake area, and the coffee shop that is only open in the mornings. This was the perfect base for our two day Whidbey retreat. read more

Once we got seated at the bar, we proceeded to try a number of drinks and wine which were great. We had some appetizers like a charcuterie and mussels which were nice. Visited the Captain Whidbey Inn several times over the past 10 or so years and it was always a highlight on my trips to the island. Great service, wonderful people, top notch food, and Pacific Northwest nostalgia to boot. My most recent visit in October was completely void of all of that. Stopped in at 3:00pm on a Monday to have a drink at the bar. Online hours were posted but when we arrived, we're told that it actually didn't open until 4:00. Totally fine, staffing is challenging these days. Said we would be back and did some sightseeing. Came back at 4:10. No one at the front desk. Walked back to the bar where 5 employees where there chatting. Asked if they were open. Dead silence and glares for about 30 seconds before I was told 'maybe soon'. Cool cool. We'll hangout until you're ready. Hung out in the lobby for 40 minutes. Constant chatting and busy work from staff, completely ignored by every person in the hotel/inn. We finally left after an hour of no response, no engagement, and no opening. I get it. It's a tough biz. I've been in it since I was 13. But this pretentious bullshit was ridiculous. I'll never go back because I don't want to ruin the great memories of this place. I'm happy to go to Toby's, have some beers, some pull tabs, and be treated like a real person. 100% awful experience. Captain Whidbey Inn is, first of all historical. Over the years, the original charm has been preserved which makes this site 'funcky', but authentic. If you value that quality, then this is your place! We have visited twice before and found it to be 'historical' and original. Like many places of this ilk, it is what it is! We found it to be fun and unique, and also overpriced. Accommodations are not highend! However, the prices are high end. Take this destination for what it is--a fun and funky destination. Don't be too picky or judgemental or you may be disappointed. There is limited internet and TV, which may or may not be good, depending on your reason for visiting. The restaurant is fun, but there are also other options in the nearby community. The uniqueness of the accommodations make his place special. See the original architecture that are from days gone by. If you want to step out of the norm of today, visit with an open mind. It is special and delightful--like no other. read more

This place is just lovely for a weekend getaway. We stayed in a lagoon room for 4th of July weekend and a cabin for Labor Day weekend. The lagoon room served its purpose, and we left happy. There was a family with 4 children, and they were running around the lagoon area the entire time, so it was difficult to relax given COVID and trying to keep distance. It was interesting watching the dynamics of who would sit in the gazebo. There were plenty of lounges and chairs around the lagoon, so finding a place to relax outside of your room was never an issue. If your room doesn't have a fireplace, there are a few opportunities to have your own fire, which adds to that summer camp in the woods type of vibe. I do feel like they took proper COVID precautions. There is a protective glass shield between the receptionist in the lobby, staff were always wearing masks, etc. I felt very comfortable with all of that, and I'm very Type A and insane about COVID precautions. Staying in the cabin was definitely an elevated experience. There was a fireplace with a wood readily available, cute robes, a personal deck overlooking the water, a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee with a french press and tea in the room. It was so perfect. I wanted the Glasswing ceramic teapot and mugs. I live like 500 ft away from Glasswing, so I figured I should probably just go there more often. If it's cold, I was impressed at how effective their heating systems are in both the cabins and lagoon rooms. I appreciate the Rudy's bath products. The hand-wash and moisturizer (not Rudy's) were amazing. I was really wanted the hand-wash because you can buy it there. I did a calculation by the oz., and it is slightly pricier than Aesop. But it's local and it actually might be better. I was tempted. Maybe next time. The beds are comfortable. Ideally the pillows would have had a bit more structure and oomph, but overall I was happy. There are myriad places where you can get your damn Instagram moments. I feel like the target demographic is millennials who work in marketing for a tech company. It's true that you can easily hear activity in other lagoon rooms, and when you add children to that, well, it could be a disaster. I wonder if they'd lose any business if the lagoon rooms were adults-only like the main historic lodge. If they made it an adults-only place and marketed it that way, maybe they'd actually get more interest? The coordination between the restaurant, bar, and hotel visitors could be improved. First visit we could order food by phone, pick it up at one place, then have to get drinks at another place where there was sometimes a line. 2nd visit we couldn't order food by phone anymore and had to physically go there to place an order. Some of the food was amazing - the mussels and calms, the burger, and fish & chips are definitely worth it. Some of the food was just OK for its price-point. I feel like there is a disconnect between the hotel, where the art, bath products, etc. are sourced locally, and then the IPA at the the restaurant is Goose Island! Like... it's the PNW and we have the best beer in the world. Then you serve Goose Island? On our first visit, we showed up slightly after 3 pm and they said our room wasn't ready yet. WHAT. But it was ready in less than 10 minutes so it wasn't *that* big of an issue. And they handed us the wrong welcome packet with someone else's name, then didn't give us another one when we told them it was the wrong packet and gave it back to them. We aren't really needy, so we don't ask much of hotel staff. Not sure how that would have worked. But for us, the cabin is so perfect, and I highly recommend if you just want to get away from the city for a quick breath of fresh air. Really wish I had read the Yelp reviews for this place instead of just the Google ones, which have clearly been manipulated to have a higher rating than is earned. My husband and I decided to stay 2 nights here to explore Whidbey Island, and I was super excited to stay at what seemed to be marketed as a unique, luxe getaway. Whoever does marketing for this place needs a raise, because the website makes it look like a 5 star wilderness retreat, when in reality it is a rundown 2 star motel with a hefty price tag. We booked the lagoon view honeymoon suite, which boasts luxury amenities like a freestanding soaking tub, premium organic King bed, cashmere goats hair carpet (which is actually disgusting), custom designer furniture, art and organic soaps, etc. Sounds and looks from the pictures like a luxe and relaxing retreat. I understood that the room, being part of an old and rustic lodge, would have its quirks, and expected parts of the experience to feel rustic and noisy, but the website MAJORLY undersells just how "rustic" it is. The room was dirty, creaky, musty, and above all else - had absolutely zero privacy. For a room you are calling a "Honeymoon Suite", privacy is important, and yet the suite is on the 2nd floor of a motel-style building with large windows looking out into the only walkway (a wobbly deck made of what seemed like rotting wood) that patrons can use to get to their rooms. And the soaking tub is DIRECTLY in front of the door, five feet away, and is the first thing you see when you glance at the room from outside. And its not as simple as just shutting the curtains for privacy if you want the bath or to sleep without being watched - this room has no air conditioning. None of them do. I understand and can get behind a rustic camping retreat having no air conditioning, but this is the kind of thing that absolutely must be advertised on the website AND in the booking confirmation, and it was not. I triple checked after the fact because I was so caught off guard. For a "Honeymoon Suite" that is costing $450 per night, air conditioning feels like a bare minimum ask, but it's ridiculous to have it be a secret until you call the front desk at 7 PM wondering why there is no air. It was easily 80-90 degrees in our room when we walked in, which would not have made for a comfortable night's sleep at all, and we were not comfortable keeping the windows open all night with how little privacy we were offered. Additionally, there is no TV, which again I could understand and accept for a unique wilderness experience if that is what had been advertised to me or what I had been charged for. But it wasn't. This inn is worth $150 per night at the absolute most. Additionally, the woman at the front desk wasn't especially friendly, but at least they let us cancel our stay on the spot when I mentioned that no air conditioning would have been a dealbreaker if the website had been transparent. We had no choice but to cancel our entire Whidbey trip, as there was nowhere left to stay on the island, and instead drove 1.5 hours late at night to Seattle, where we paid LESS money than Captain Whidbey charged for a deluxe king room in a 4 star hotel (Alexis Royal Sonesta) overlooking the ocean 2 blocks from Pike Place Market. Don't waste your money here unless you know what you're signing up for. I wish the website had been much more transparent about the condition of this property. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this place. It was one of the most magical places to stay and spend time. The hotel staff was so kind and accommodating. We stayed in the lodge and though these rooms are historic, they were very cozy and comfortable. The entire space is kept very clean and decorated so well. I just returned from an overnight filled with disappointment. I've been a guest at the inn a few times over the years and it's been nice. But this time the cramped room with its dim lighting rendered reading impossible. It was not charming at $216 for the night. The mediocre dinner at $160 for two definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and I'd like my money back. The experience, for the most part, was awful. read more

Decided to plan a little weekend getaway for my boyfriend's birthday this year. We had never been to Whidbey Island, and I found the Captain Whidbey Inn while doing some research. We had a good experience here. The inn is extremely charming and cozy. It gave really good cabin vibes, which was fun. The inn itself is pretty small, and then there are neighboring buildings with more rooms and also some cabins you can rent for a steeper price. The front desk attendant was super friendly when we checked in. We were given our key and room number, and we headed up the extremely narrow and small staircase to the upstairs portion of the inn where all the rooms are. The room we stayed in was super small, but it was really all we needed for one night. There was a bed, nightstand, a sink and mirror (which I didn't think would be in there, so I was happy about that), some hooks for your belongings, a little bench, and I think that's about it. In the inn, all rooms share a communal bathroom, which initially I felt a little hesitant about, but it ended up being no problem at all. The bathroom was super clean and stocked with any essentials you'd need. There was also a shower in there in case you'd want it. The hand soap by the sinks smelled amazing, and there was some hand lotion to put on after washing, which was nice because of the chillier weather. When we got into our room, it felt like the temperature was below freezing. I was literally shivering and felt so uncomfortable. I was worried there wouldn't be a fix for this because the inn seems so old -- I kind of figured that the rooms might just get cold and we would have to bundle up. We went down and told the front desk attendant and she came up to help with our heater. It definitely was a bit old and took a while to kick in, but then it got super warm in our room. It ended up being a little too warm, causing a bit of uncomfortableness while trying to sleep, but I was happy it warmed up from the freezing temp. The surrounding area of the inn is super charming and fun to explore. It was a little slick, wet, and muddy on the grounds, so we weren't able to explore as much as we would've liked. I think it would be really fun to come back during the warmer weather to enjoy the area a bit more. The inn is a very close drive to Ebey's Landing, so we went and did that the morning after our stay. It was freezing out, so we couldn't stay out for long, but it was beautiful! Another place we want to go back and visit when the weather is nicer. We also ate at the Captain Whidbey Restaurant, which is conveniently located on the ground floor of the inn. I set up a reservation online ahead of time so we could ensure ourselves a seat. We had a good experience at the restaurant. Overall, we had a fun time here. I'm not sure I'd ever plan to stay longer than one night in the inn due to the tight quarters, but I'd definitely look into booking one of the cabins for a bit more room. My husband and I stayed here for one night for our anniversary on October 2nd (Monday). We checked in around 3pm and were upgraded to the captain's suite (room 4). I am so grateful for that because the view from our room was the best. The wall of old and charming windows made for an incredible experience with a view across the entire room. It is also conveniently located across from the bathrooms. The room felt so romantic and cozy. We were able to relax in the very comfortable bed with the peaceful sounds of the bay right outside. I booked the lodge for the "experience" and felt like I was on a docked ship in the bay, which made for a fun and unique stay. I didn't mind the floor creaking when you walked as it added to this experience. The communal bathrooms were a bit small but I never encountered another person utilizing them during our stay. We made reservations for the restaurant and enjoyed a delicious vegan meal! Service was also excellent! At night, we could hear the restaurant below but it was mostly muffled and again, added to the experience in my opinion. The noise was gone by 9pm. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed walking by the water. The espresso bar is super convenient and we both enjoyed our drinks. The area is quaint and we were able to get vegan breakfast burritos at a nearby cafe. The lodge is adorned with so much charm. We will never forget this stay! read more

THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE. DO NOT PLAN A TRIP HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR BELONGINGS STOLEN!!!! We have stayed at Captain Whidbey Inn many times and loved it but this last trip was a total nightmare!!!!! As we were checking out, our car was broken into (while parked in the Inn's lot) and someone stole two purses off of the front seat of our locked car. In what was truly a crappy situation, the staff at Captain Whidbey was beyond rude, completely un-empathetic or apologetic, and truly just cold and unhelpful. Considering the theft occurred on their property, you'd think they would have been showed even the slightest bit of concern but instead this was our issue to deal with and they are now ignoring our calls. The police who showed up was only semi-helpful and it truly seemed like an inside job at the hotel. I REPEAT- THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE. Imagine a retro summer camp setting with a backdrop of ocean water and fir trees. Then, add a Wes Anderson flair. You have the Captain Whidbey Inn. We were so charmed! There are so many gems to find as you stroll the grounds...a rope swing, a charming gazebo, row boats and canoes to take out on the water. Multiple hammocks dot the area so you can find peaceful moments under the trees. I would highly recommend a visit the Captain Whidbey Inn if you find yourself on this beautiful Island. read more

I struggled with this because I'd say it's a 3.5 and almost solely because I just don't see the justification in price for a room vs what you actually get. The lodge is very cool; low ceilings, huge stone fireplace, cozy. The rooms are cool? In a more updated summer camp vibe way but holy smokes the floors are LOUD. We were on a bottom floor of one of the two lagoon buildings and literally anytime a person above us would even think about moving the whole floor would creak so loud it nearly sounded like they were going to come crashing on top of us. There were neat amenities that we appreciated with kids, a large lagoon area to run around and explore, and a neat tree net climbing structure. The smores in the evening were so fun too! But for a decent motel vibe with a $400/night price tag, I'm not sure we'd stay again. read more

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Captain Whidbey. On the website, it makes it look like kids don't exist so we had to call to learn more and found out that we could stay with them in the lagoon building. It was lovely, overlooking a lagoon with a beautiful bridge and two rocking chairs on the porch. Be warned that it is very rustic. Everything creaks. You can hear every movement of the people above you. We spent a lot of time shushing our kids. We always try to be considerate, but the thin walls did make us feel extra careful. No a/c or tv. We expected this, so no letdown, but I just wanted to set expectations. One highlight was s'mores, where they provided various chocolate bars in addition to the standard hersheys bars. I'll tell you, once you go Reese's cups on your s'mores, you don't go back. We also loved the tree net - so relaxing to lay in a giant hammock amongst the trees. All in all, the Captain Whidbey is a fun and memorable experience. Go into it expecting an elevated summer camp-type stay, and you won't be disappointed. read more

6/29/19 Whidbey Island Inn is a great little inn. The staff is very friendly from what I saw. The room I saw stationed in was above the restaurant and the room contained a sink, bed and space to put your toiletries. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase with these tiny but comfortable rooms. These rooms above restaurant have. Two bathrooms. On for women and one for men. Both bathrooms have two toilets and one shower and three sinks. The restaurant has great food and wonderful staff. I truly enjoyed the yogurt parfait. The passionfruit was delicious. I have had the juice m as my times, but never eaten the actual fruit until yesterday. Visiting the party I saw few people dancing, but watching the battle Royal of Sith vs Jedi was humorous. There were not allegiances to anyone but themselves. I was wounded in the battle, but survived where many others didn't. The mastermind behind the how starwars battle was killed at the beginning of the battle. The wedding party was very fun and the kids truly loved and appreciated it. Now on a more serious note. I upon arrival I learned that this in wasn't equipped for people with disabilities/handicapped. If they are, it wasn't in the area my aunt was staying. This place will want to work on that soon. Overall, the general manager and the staff member were very cool and down to earth. We will definitely be coming back here sometime in the future. read more

A must visit on whidbey island I went to dinner here as a preview to their relaunch after extensive remodeling and opening their new restaurant menu. Everything was so perfect. The menu was fresh and delicious, every dish was made to order with the sort of care you can taste. The new decor is hip. It feels really great to sit in a space so rich with history, but perfectly in the now. read more
