I had originally gone to the place where the tires were purchased and they told me I needed to make an appt since they only had one tech, others called in sick, which they told me also the week previous! AVOID at all cost. My husband and I had the absolute worst experience with this place. My husband's car broke down after work last Tuesday. We called to see if we could tow here since the were open late even though it was far from our home. They said we could come in as they were open until 7pm. We arrived at 6:30pm to find the place closed. We called the service line and they said we could leave the key and we would have an appointment at 8:30am. The next day they let my husband know the located the part with the issue and they would get it in that day. Fast forward to 3 times of getting the "wrong part" and us being without our car for multiple days they let my husband know the car was fixed and ready for pickup. We drove out Saturday morning (45 min drive with a sick child) to find out the car now has a NEW issue and wont accelerate over 5mph. When we went back in to ask them to look they refused saying they were shorthanded. The man (Michael) behind the desk was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional and refused to help us or work with us at all and sent us all the way home. They never looked at our car the rest of the weekend. We had to call multiple times, call corporate and make multiple threats before the finally looked at the car and fixed whatever THEY broke on it. One week later, lots of frustration, time lost on our end and we finally got the car back. Also to find they disabled my husband's key fab. This was by far the worst customer experience I have ever had in my life. The man there is a bully and an awful person! I would never wish this to happen to anyone else - just stay away!!! read more

I went in so they can look at my exhaust. They said there was a leak in the exhaust. They said that they can weld it for $205 but it wasn't guaranteed that it would hold and there was a possibility that I would need a catalyst converter and that it would then cost $1200. Luckily I passed on that. I found the catalyst kit for $100. So they tried to rip me off for around $1000. Wow!! Do your homework people.Beware of the scammers!!! read more

I have been in a few times without issue but this last time was a disaster. They called to tell me that Toyota over tightened and my oil cap, which led to them breaking it and trying to charge me $200 to replace it. Complete garbage excuse. After the repair and oil change, we picked up the car. 2 weeks later all of the oil had leaked out of the ill-fitting wrong size cap. $600 at Toyota later to find out that they installed the wrong size cap, there was oil all over the underside of my car. There was NO OIL left. All I can say is thank god it didn't run out of oil on our family road trip and left us stranded with a blown engine. Manager wasn't helpful to our call. Wonderful service at this location! I have been coming here for many years and have always had outstanding, honest, care. I recently brought my car in because my check engine light came on. The tech, Dominick, located the problem due to damage on my undercarriage. I had a car wash the day before and he showed me the scrape it caused affecting damage to a sensor casing underneath. Dominic was so knowledgeable and took the time to explain what happened and what needed to be done. The part had to be ordered. Vic, the assistant manager, personally picked up the part so the work could be completed on Friday so I could have my car back before the weekend. Dominic quickly replaced the part. John, the manager, was so caring and said to let him know if the light came on again, make sure to bring it back so he could take care of it. This place really cares about their customers and their safety. They truly value long term customers. Top quality, honest people work here. You could not be in better hands! read more

Normally I don't find the need to review chains, but I think this Car-x does such a fantastic job, it should be noted. I've always received consistent, quality service. I get my regular oil changes done here and I'm always in and out within 20 minutes. All employees are super nice & have always answered my questions (even if they may be obvious, stupid question to them). I will say- The standard Car-X online appointment scheduler is GOD AWFUL. The system isn't location specific, but the people here were kind enough to let me know that the scheduler is basically crap. You're way better off calling here for an appointment. read more

In October 2021 I paid Car-X on Ogden in Downers Grove IL $800 for a brake job: front and rear rotors and pads on a 2009 Honda Accord. (I chose Car-X because my preferred local shop -which I trust and have used for years- was booked up and Car-X was available to do the job. They get four stars for this. They lose two stars for the results. Not long after the work was completed, I noticed that the rear brakes were intermittently noisy. By July 2022 (only 9 months and 12000 miles later) the rear brakes were quite noisy, and I could see uneven wear on the rear rotors and excessive wear on the rear pads. I took the car to my usual shop, which determined that while the front brakes were OK, the rear brakes had seized up on the sliders due to excessive corrosion. The manager said that it was clear that much of the corrosion predated the previous brake job, and should have been remedied then. He said there were several items that had not been serviced properly during the previous brake job. My car needed to again have the rear rotors, pads, and other hardware replaced, and have certain parts sandblasted and painted to prevent corrosion. $470 for this repair. I'm not at all happy with the job Car-X did in 2021. I will not return to them for a brake job, and would be reluctant to use them again for anything else. read more

I went for oil change in Downer grove on March, 2019. My husband noticed the oil spots in our asphalt driveway where I park my car. My car had oil leaked everwhere I parked. I went back to the shop. The front desk guy was sorry and did the oil change. We had to spend our time to clean/scrub oil out of our driveway so hard with a special chemical 5 times and there are still oil on our driveway If you go to Carx for oil change, make sure they close the plug properly. read more

We've been using this Car-X on and off for years at their old location, but a recent visit really compelled me to write this review. Now, we mostly go to Car-X for basic maintenance (oil) and wear/tear items like brakes and suspension. Additionally, we typically bring in Asian cars of the last decade or so, which are easier to work with than some of the German vehicles. Within this capacity, we've always been impressed with the professionalism (taking us out to the car to show us what was wrong with a strut) and fair pricing. I took in an older Accord I had just acquired from a family member last week, with the most horrid brake squeal. I had figured, this was easily in need of a new pad, get in and out that morning. I bring it in, get my quoted price, and sit down waiting to make sure it'll just be pads and not a rotor. Lo and behold, the mechanic comes in and informs me that I have so much life left in the pads (70%+) that he can't replace them in good conscience. He just handed me the keys and I was on my way! Truly impressed with the honesty of the mechanics here. I hope they're this good when I come back for a real repair in the near future. read more

If you read my reviews, my usual go-to place for an oil change is a place called Automotive Boulevards in San Diego, CA. Amazing service that gives their customers a rose, a free coffee, and/or a free hand-wash from neighboring businesses. A+ Customer Service. So it's kind of hard to top that since my expectations are set high. I needed a 45k mi oil change and I conveniently bought a Groupon deal that gave me an oil change, tire rotation, wiper blade replacements for $29. First off, my first impressions upon arrival are "convenient location", "CLEAN", and "not crowded". Usually auto services are grungy and greasy, understandably so because... they fix up cars and cars are dirty. Well, I was impressed that this auto service was a clean and professional auto service. Inside, I was professionally welcomed and he took my keys, name, address and phone number. Then off I left! Usually my car takes about 30 min - 1 hour for an oil change and thankfully I was right across the street from Panera. I got a phone call asking if some of the services are necessary and that my car was done. Great! I really appreciate it when mechanics don't perform unnecessary services without my permission or up sell me. The only thing I was disappointed with was that they didn't bother to take the time to reset my maintenance light. This is the second time I went to a place that wasn't Auto Blvd that fails to reset my light. Slightly annoying because I don't understand why it cannot be done. So just a summary/recap... it wasn't overboard great service but it wasn't terrible either. Just received a call from Car X. The manager said he is very sorry that they all missed it, they are all humans, we all make mistakes. He then proceeded to tell me if I need anything to bring my car back to them. He also stated that he is not sure how they all missed it. Originally I thought it was my tire, so I took it back to Discount Tires and they seen that it was rusted out and Sterling Auto Body that I took my car to seen that it was all rusted out and it has been like that for a couple of months. I understand that we are all humans and we all make mistakes, however if my tire exploded further down I-88 I might not be here today. But just remember we are all humans. RIDICULOUS!!! When I got to their shop, after checking, they told me I don't need to change the car breaks. They also checked my engine noise and suggested me to do oil change. I was surprised that because I just did that one month ago in other place. They said possibly I drove too much and the oil burnt. Definitely I drove a lot last month. So I asked them to help me to top off some high mileage oil. They did so without charging me. I was so touched and told them I will give them six stars if yelp has the settings. I can't say enough good things about the honesty, professionalism, knowledge and excellent customer service provided here. Repair costs are always surprisingly reasonable when compared to dealership repair costs and there is absolutely no up selling. Joe has diagnosed and solved every problem that I have ever brought to him and if it doesn't need fixing he lets me know. I used to go here all the time.! Had no problem getting in. They even advertise for oil changes that no appointment is necessary. I took my car in first thing in the morning several months ago for an oil change. He told me to make an appointment from now on. I said sometimes I only know a day in advance when I have a day off to bring it in. I was told that would work. My car started leaking oil- probably just need tightening of the cap. I couldn't get there due to my work schedule. I called to just make another appointment for an oil change when I knew I had a day off. He couldn't fit me in for about a week. Even if I went in a week, I think the job would have been rushed and not done properly- just like the first oil change. Its a shame to see them go downhill like that. The place is understaffed as the owner said. Then maybe pay a little bit more for quality technicians. Maybe expand your hours. There's got to be a solution! read more

These guys ruined my car!!!! I was headed out for a road trip & my regular mechanic was closed for vacation. I wanted to get the oil changed before we left. I went to Car-X & I told the guy behind the counter that I had an older car & needed high-mileage engine oil. Jason Kline, the store manager, told me that the premium conventional oil that they use would be fine. Fast forward 7 weeks later....my car won't start correctly, it's sputtering when I drive & isn't accelerating when I depress the accelerator pedal. Because Car-X used the wrong type of engine oil for my car, it was leaking like crazy all over the starter & drenched the battery & caused a short! The smell was awful as the leaking oil was literally boiling under the hood! I had to have the starter, the battery and the crank sensor replaced!!!!! The battery was saturated in engine oil because it was leaking out like water & caused the battery to swell! I'm so angry that they relied on what their computer system recommended based on the make & model, instead of using their brains to make an educated decision on how to service an older vehicle with very high mileage! Their incompetence cost me hundreds to repair! DON'T GO HERE!!!!!!! read more

This car shop has great service. They are always very quick and it is my go to place for getting work done on my car. I got a flat tire and it turned out that I needed a brand new tire. They showed me the tire and I told them that it was only a year old, so they recommended I check out the warranty. I went to the shop that put on my tire and was able to get it for free. I greatly appreciate the fact that this Car X did let simply sell me a new tire for the money, but was looking out for the best option for my car. Additionally, they didn't even charge me for taking a look at the tire and putting on my spare! On another occasion, I got my key stuck in between the dashboard and windshield and wasn't able to get it out, so they took it in and had it out in less than 15 minutes. Yet again, they didn't charge me! I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

I actually made my yelp account today so I could boast how great the service is at Car X. My father always took care of all the maintenance issues with my car at his auto body shop. However, he recently sold the shop and I was left to get my car repairs elsewhere. I have been holding off going anywhere because I was really nervous about getting swindled at other shops. Luckily, Car X was the second place I went that provided great prices. I had my driver side car door fixed, filter replaced, coolant flushed, and wiper blades replaced for a great price, in my opinion. Went in for a wheel alignment. Jason quoted a price and said it would take about an hour. Within an hour the car was ready and I paid the price he quoted. However, it was while I was waiting for my car that impressed me about this Car X center. Most customers in the waiting room were seniors, including myself. One lady saw her car up on the rack and then a mechanic started waliking toward the waiting room. He conferred with Jason. I heard her say "That can't be good !" Jason called her to the counter and told her it was a missing hose that caused her car's problem and it had been repaired. "How much is that going to cost ?" she asked. "Nothing, don't worry about it." he said. Another senior customer brought his car in because he thought there was something wrong with his brakes. A mechanic came out and told him his brakes were good - he didn't need brakes. However, he told him his tires were bad, they were last replaced in 2005. Jason's honesty and integrity were most impressive. I would definitly take my car back for any future service needs. read more
