I went to Car-X to get my snow tires mounted and installed on my car and Rich walked up to me when I entered the shop to shake my hand and welcome me! I had an appointment but had to wait a bit longer than expected because a mechanic had called in sick and there were other cars that were being worked on at the time. I didn't mind waiting but some of the other people did. One guy got really angry and was practically yelling at Rich but Rich kept calm and let the customer know that he's doing everything he can to get the guy's car completed and that he's waiting on a part to arrive (which was on it's way). As a customer support manager, I thought Rich handled the angry customer very well and I was super impressed! Although I had to wait awhile, I felt like getting my car fixed correctly was very important to Rich and that my patience was very valued. After my tires were installed, the old ones wouldn't fit in my trunk and front seat, so they said they'd store them for me until I could pick them up today! I even got a change to talk to the mechanic who was helping Rich work on my car and he was also very friendly. The people at this location are fantastic and Rich even cleaned off my steering wheel and shifter for me before I left since it was greasy! The only thing that would make this a 5 star rating was if the wait was less and/or they called in another person to help with the backlog of cars. read more

Over and beyond Excellent Service!! I came to Car X yesterday and was in distress because the brakes on my car was absolutely non-existent.. I was reminded of the Fred Flinstone cartoon when he could drive his car and stopped it with his feet....(smile).. It was truly my fault because I had been driving my car for a couple of weeks with the brakes screeching until that day when the brakes didn't work anymore and I couldn't stop the car without using my emergency break.. Well , when I went in to Car X after I left work at 4:30 pm..I drove in the shop and the service guy was shaking his head after he looked at my car and saying that someone was watching over me because It was dangerous to be driving this car . He said that the brakes were severely damaged and I needed a lot of work ..After consulting with the manager Rich , they were able to fix the brakes on my car for me to drive it and at least stop and it was a price that I could afford...although there is more work to be done. I was very emotional and I appreciate their sensitivity and they stayed after the shop closed to fix my vehicle ..They stayed until 9:30 pm to fix my car and I was so grateful that I was able to drive my car home. I've been a loyal customer at this Car-X location for the past two years and was generally happy with their oil change services. However, my recent experiences have completely changed my opinion. Last month, during an oil change, a new manager attempted to upsell me on services that I didn't need, which I declined. Not thinking much of this, I brought my second vehicle in for an oil change, and the next day, I noticed oil leaking onto my garage floor. Unfortunately, I had to wait over the Labor Day weekend to address this issue. When I brought the vehicle back in that the oil pan plug gasket was missing--a careless mistake that could have caused major damage if left unnoticed. They replaced it, told me to "have a great day," and that was it. No apology, no acknowledgment of their error, and certainly no offer to make things right. On top of that, despite my clear instructions to only change the oil, they again tried to upsell me on changing the cabin filter and rear shocks. Not only did they put the dirty cabin filter back in without even shaking it out, but they also left the cover open. This kind of service is unacceptable, and I will not be using this company again. I strongly recommend going elsewhere for your car needs. read more

I was just at Car-X in Feb. '15 and worked with the Manager (Kevin) and it was a great experience. Had my car towed in because it would not start and like others money was very tight. Kevin worked with me to get my car back up and running while helping in every way he could to keep the cost down. Of course if I did not have bad luck I would have no luck at all, the day after I got my car back the (check engine light) came on and the car started running very rough. Of course took it back to car-x and another part broke, and this time there was really no money left for car repairs. Again Kevin was a great help and gave me the option to pick-up the part my self and bring it in and they would install it saving me a lot of Money (saved 66%) on the part. Kevin did inform me that car-x could not warranty parts or labor but it was worth the risk because it was the only way to get my car back on the road. I went to the Car-X on 548 N. Milwaukee in Wheeling to check on low tire pressure. A few months ago, I had a similar issue and visited Just Tires at 723 W. Dundee Road, Wheeling. What a difference in experience! At Just Tires, they told me there was sidewall damage to the tire that couldn't be repaired--even though I had carefully inspected the tire myself and saw no visible damage. It was most likely just a nail. I didn't argue, ended up paying just under $200, and had to wait for the specific tire to be delivered. This time, I went to Car-X. In a short amount of time, they located the issue and fixed the tire--no drama, no unnecessary upsell. It's unfortunate that we don't have more managers like Jon Chechelnisky. He truly makes life easier, happier, and--most importantly--restores trust between businesses and customers. read more

This is my go-to repair shop around town for oil changes and just routine car maintenance. Staff is friendly and honest. Prices are reasonable and I have never really had an issue here. I like that they check your car to see if there is anything wrong, even if you are just getting an oil change. Some places do this as well, but I have noticed that not all of them are honest about it. In Car-x, I feel like they are honest because everything that they have told me that needed to be replaced, actually needed to be replaced. For example, I started to notice that my serpentine belt was making some noises, but I didn't think much of it. Then I went to car-x to get an oil change, and they told me that my belt needed to be replaced without me even telling them that. read more

My Camry started to have some weird noise these days, but nothing wrong for driving. As an precancerous owner, I decide to have it checked. I first call Toyota dealer and they told me they will charge $99 for a diagnosis checking. Then I started looking for a auto shop which will have free checking. I found this Car-X shop in yelp with a 5 star review. I called first and I was told it is free of charge for a checking. So I brought the car to them right away. The technician and the manager Rich are so nice and after a careful checking, they told us there is nothing wrong with the car, the noise is nature for a 70000 mileage car. I read the reviews for this location after I had arrived and dropped my car off and all of the negative ones (the few that there are) to me seem false. They had my car in for an oil change within 10 minutes while helping other people. Rich was the one who helped me and I mentioned that I had a deal for the family pack oil changes on my phone but it was almost dead. Without asking or expecting anything, he brought me a charger so I could charge it. Great service. My car is being taken care of now, I thought this was the best service from ANY car repair place. We have been going to this Car X location for 9 years. We have never had a problem with the repairs or service from this location. They guarantee all their work. The manager and the repair man diagnosed the problem with my brakes which was ready to cost me alot of money. They caught it in time and did an excellent job repairing and getting me back on my way. The brakes don't drag any more and they replaced the brakes because of it being under warranty I just paid for the installation. These guys really know how to take care of a vehicle and make sure you feel taken care of as well. Amazing service 100 percent of the time, and they keep you updated and knowledgeable about your own vehicle and what it needs. I brought my car in today, to have a cover for my lug nut replace, it was stripped back in December when I got my new tires put on. I didn't have the time to bring it in, but when i did (today), Rich, the man at the front desk took care of everything in a timely manner. Not only did they cover the cost, which was only 5 bucks, but they explained to me why the color of the new cover was different (it hadn't been sun bleached yet). I have been to other car-x repair shops but this one was much better. I felt there was something wrong with my car, and wanted them to check it. They quickly told me I needed to repair my shocks. I assumed they would need to time to order parts, but they had it done in a little over an hour. I told them I needed it done at a certain time and they were done much earlier. They also tried to find me extra discounts coupons so I could save money on the repair. Very professional and friendly staff! read more

I make appointments for repairs, get estimates before the job is started and a ride home and pick up if the repair will take a long time. I have only used this location as a tire shop, and for that they've done great work. They are efficient and professional. When my car (a European make) has been in for, say, a tire rotation, they do the usual inspection of the undercarriage and point out things that could use work (which is expected), but the explanations are very clear and there's no hard sell. Since the work was going to take a few hours the manager, Rich Bolwin, graciously asked if I needed a lift anywhere so that I didn't have to wait at the shop. I have gone first for my honda accord break problem. It was not done well but was not completely satisfied with the pricing. I nevertheless took my second car honda civic for muffler problem. Here, Rich explained to me that the problem is only with the one of the pipe and they took great to fix it very economically.
