My mom brought her car in because she has a Wrangler and had a weird feeling when she was on the highway. So she was referred here and they tried to sell her something that was covered under the jeep warranty, tires that she didn't need. And brakes that she also didn't need. She ended up getting a 2nd opinion and they confirmed that her tires and brakes were fine and they confirmed that Jeep will cover that suspension issue. D & R also kept the $107 to try to rob her of things she didn't need. Now she's going to another place that is 20-25 minutes away that were honest to her. This is my first time ever feeling the need to give a business a review. I took my car in to get the power steering lines replaced. I picked up my car right before closing. The next morning I noticed a bracket sticking out the top of my hood. To my surprise it was a bracket that holds down the power steering lines. After realizing they forgot to reinstall it, I took a closer look around where the work was performed. The front right wheel well/bumper was missing a clip and flapping in the wind. There is also a splash bracket missing. All these items are parts that had to be removed in order to put the new power steering lines in. I fixed the rest of the issues myself. When I called to ask the manager if they had the missing bracket his response was "we have master mechanics here and any bracket that we take off we put back on." Well attached are the photos... I sent an email as well to see if they had the missing bracket but no response. My power steering does work fine, but everything else being wrong/missing doesn't give me peace of mind. Based on other reviews this family business, with a good reputation, was sold and a lot of the good mechanics left. I wish I had read that before taking my car there. Edited based on owners response below: You can see the two circled bolts where the missing bracket was. About 1 inch above where the bracket was is the power steering lines that were replaced. By saying "You emailed pictures of the bracket and it is not in the area we worked on" is clearly not true. It 100% needs to be removed to access the lines. It just goes to show this place will not take any blame for anything and is dishonest. I never received a call/email back after I emailed the photos. Take my car back to get looked at? No thank you. I fixed all the incorrect work myself. It's not even about the missing bracket, I already replaced it. I used D&R auto when Dan was an owner for over 10 years. They were fantastic, honest, and reliable. Not the cheapest maybe but did top-notch work on my BMWs and now my Genesis. Dan sold the business to Greatwater a few months ago. When I went in for an oil change it was all new faces in the front but they assured me ALL of the mechanics in the back were the same. That was a lie. They screwed up something during my oil change, said they would fix it for free, and after they fixed it the oil light came back on within 15 minutes. Fortunately I was able to find Chris, one of the managers, who is now at Blue Sky tire and auto in Glenview...with TWO of the mecahnics from D&R! So my suggestion would be don't use these incompetent liars, take your business somewhere else and for what it's worth I highly recommend it Chris at Blue Sky. Tell him Steve sent you. read more

These may be the worst people in the world. If you take your car there you are risking that they break something on purpose or out of incompetence. My girlfriend was too nervous too leave this review on her own, but she believes it was on purpose and they were taking advantage of her. After spending $500 to "troubleshoot" the problem and be told it would be over $1000 to fix, she took it to Pep Boys who fixed the issue for $100. If you want to throw money away and put your car in jeopardy this is your place. read more

I have been bringing all of our vehicles to D&R for service since we first moved to the area in 2005 until we left in 2022. We always received excellent trustworthy service. The crew here is top notch. Not the cheapest, but less expensive than going to a dealer and always quality work and components - you get what you pay for. Also appreciated the courtesy loaner vehicles. I saw some of the other reviews with people thinking they were trying to sell them something they didn't need, well vehicle systems wear out and need to be maintained. Keep up with maintenance on your vehicle and you won't be stuck on the side of the road. Recommendations for service were always accompanied with photos showing the issue and/or manufacturer recommended service intervals. 100% a good, reputable establishment. well this is an update on my previous review. the local ford dealer inspected the truck and no seized front calipers found so i called it the bs that the calipers caused denial of brake warranty ,the improper brake were installed and can't handle the weight of the truck. the reason why they upgraded the rear brakes at an extra cost to me even the brakes were still under the 36k mile parts and labor warranty.so i call this bs on the customer service treatment read more

Because of their unreliability, our son missed a crucial medical appointment. They also charged us for an electronic issue that they claimed they could not fix or find. very impressed with this place. took my 'new to me' mini over for an inspection and oil change. While waiting, I had a desk to work at, Wi-Fi, coffee, in a clean, quiet waiting room. when done I got a thorough report, and the opportunity to have a walk through of the car with the mechanic (who explained issues with me). With this, I've come up with a short list of things to do right away, things to keep an eye on (make a list and prioritize what is more important than others). The price was reasonable IMO. Ive had most luxury car brands, and over the years I have ritually paid overpriced dealer rates for service. I was particularly shocked by my last Porsche service rate, so I decided to try D and R. They assured me that they have all the official car tools and parts, and officially trained mechanics. I am reporting a total success. Great service, perfect mechanical work, door to door delivery, prompt scheduling, and the real kicker, their cost was almost half the dealer quoted rate. i will never go back to paying the crazy high dealer prices. Abysmal quality and service We have used Dr Autoworks for many years they used to be excellent but over the last year or more there performance has been abysmal. We have two Audi's and have used them for annual services for a number of years plus other work as needed the last three experiences have been very poor. We will never use them again and i would recommend anyone who plans to use them to stay away Dynarev a little further away but are very competitively priced and have a very good reputation for quality. read more

I recently brought my Toyota Prius to D & R Autoworks for its 100K service. All went extremely well. All work was done on time and a full diagnostic review, as required, was performed and put in writing. Questions as to what additional work was necessary, advised or could be postponed, were fully answered. Although there were a number of recommended items beyond scheduled maintenance, there was no pressure to proceed and my decision to wait on most items was respected. I was entirely comfortable with the whole process. I did have some of the additional work done and it was completed quickly. An part was needed and the car had to be kept overnight. I was provided with a free loaner. The people I worked with - Rob, Gabe, and Chris, were all very nice and a pleasure to work with. I had no trouble getting a ride home by their porter, and when the loaner was needed, they were accommodating. I was in and out quickly. The waiting area is neat and comfortable and the location is particularly convenient. They provide rides to the nearby train stations and will pick you up upon your return if that is needed. Of note, I discovered a crack in the front windshield that was not there before bringing the car in. They were apologetic and agreed to replace the windshield at their cost. This was done in a day with all of the available services (loaner; porter) as needed. I appreciated their taking responsibility for this in such a professional way. Be Careful Bait and Switch-Misquoting- TERRIBLE GAMES I had brought my car in for some service and found it to be slightly less expensive then the dealer. My first bad experience was: 1. They did front end axle work on my car and when I got it back the headlights were pointing low. When I took it back they charged me an extra $40 to raise the headlights. 2. I had them do some work on the coolant system. About a week later the check engine light came off and on. i took it in and they told me it over the phone it was going to be another $70 for a new thermostat on top of the the over $1000 I had just paid to get the system fixed. I told them to go ahead since the price was small. WHEN I CAME IN TO PICK UP MY CAR THE PRICE WAS JACKED TO OVER $400.00! The guy Jeff who told me over the phone the price was unavailable to speak that day. They asked me to pay and they would have him call me to "work something out." I was late for work so I did. The next came and still no word from Jeff. I emailed over and the next day got a response from the owner who said Jeff was still unavailable. He said that there was no way Jeff would have told me that price. I told him no way i would have approved that work since I did not have the budget for it and how could he possibly know what was said on the phone between Jeff and I. Classic he said -she said scenario. How in the world would the owner know what Jeff would have told me. Later he said that he had finally spoken to Jeff and that Jeff assured him there was no way he would have told me that price. Unfortunately only Jeff and I know and he is not talking. STILL I AM NOT ABLE TO SPEAK WITH JEFF BUT THE OWNER Dan MAGICALLY CAN. I asked him for some consideration; like to meet me in the middle since I believed that was fair. Dan said no but he would offer me a free oil change. This is after I have spent over $4000.00 on my car in less than a year at his shop. THANKS BUT NO THANKS. This was my first time taking my car in to D & R Autoworks and they were professional, polite, affordable, and fast. My car was done within two days and a man named Jeff would call me to check-in. Super polite and friendly guy. This auto shop also offers complimentary loaners and they washed my car when I got it back..Such a nice surprise. On my way to work one day, I heard the loud squealing of a belt, and then a poof of smoke rise up from my car. RATS! This was not good. I pulled over to the side of the road, and lifted the hood to find that my AC compressor belt was broken, and curled up in a pretty little swirl. In the case that I may somehow do further damage to my little lemon, I called in a tow and took her to D&R. AAA had told me that these guys would give me an estimate in an hour. When I got there, I was told it *might* be later that afternoon, or possibly the next morning...What?? But the lovely gentleman (I don't know his name) did look at it, surmising that my AC compressor had blown... Google Queen that I am, I found a quick-fix that would allow me to utilize my power steering without replacing that super-expensive AC compressor; so I showed it to the lovely gentleman (L.G.). He said, "hey, I'll make a note of that - it could be an option." He was open to suggestion! This is not like any mechanic's I'VE ever been to... Fast-forward to later that afternoon...They still haven't had a chance to look at my car, and so I picked it up to bring it to a less-busy establishment. The L.G. apologized again, and said, "but, hey! You can still drive it, you just won't have power steering. AND you don't have to use that fix you found - since the AC pulley is free-spinning, you can just get a new belt (disconnect the AC power), drive with power steering again, and fix the AC compressor later." What a life-saver! So, I went over to a Car-X, fought with the mechanic there to explain this was NOT a crazy suggestion, and he did it - new belt and all. He was incredulous that it worked, but I am now driving with power steering again, and I can fix that uber-pricey AC compressor when I'm good and ready. So, even though I didn't give D&R a red cent, they still gave me a great solution, and were awesomely helpful! Thanks, L.G.! (No wonder you're so damn busy!) read more

We found this place after someone hit my wife's car almost 3 years ago. Since the, this is the place we go for all vehicle maintenance for both of our cars. The staff is super friendly, they have a dropbox for leaving your car(s) after hours, and they have free loaners you can use if needed, or free rides back to your home, as well as for picking up. The prices are competitive and fair, and I have never felt like they are trying to take advantage of me. A+ across the board. They do offer AAA discounts. read more

I called about a dozen repair shops, but D&R the only one that had the tire I needed. They stayed after close and rushed to make sure I was able to get back on the road in time to make the wedding. I've been taking my Mini Cooper S (and be for that, my Honda Accord) for several years now and they have always done me right. They've worked well with my extended warranty program during my post dealer warranty days- even when my engine died and needed to be replaced! I go there for everything since they keep all the records in one place so when I go to sell (which will be hopefully soon... for another Mini), I'll be able to hand the records over to the next owner. Frankly, if I can make the trip to Highland Park from Lincoln Park for their service, so can you. They may not be the cheapest, but they won't let you down either. First off, it took 6 hours to get my car back from an oil change. When I inquired about why it was taking so long, the manager said that since I didn't tell them I needed the car back at a certain time they weren't in a rush. The manager cited that they aren't an express oil change facility, so I shouldn't have expected it to be done quickly. When I dropped my car off, I let the woman at the front desk know I didn't have my coupon with me. She told me it wouldn't be a problem and they could take care of it. When I came back, they told me there was nothing they could do for me and proceeded to charge me $42 for an oil change. When I got home and was unable to locate my coupon (that's what happens when someone else cleans the house when you're out haha), I decided to check online to see if they had any coupons. Despite telling me there was nothing they could do for me when I was at the place, I was infuriated to find out they had an online coupon that they didn't mention to me. I immediately called to see if they would give me a refund for the amount of the coupon, they offered me a credit towards my next oil change. I explained that I have no intention of ever going back and wanted a refund instead of a credit. The manager refused and obviously did not care about having a satisfied customer. Edited to add that after writing the review, I also noticed they have a coupon for money off an oil change for checking in on Yelp that they couldn't be bothered to tell me about either. read more

Went to D&R to get my passenger side mirror replaced. Just the mirror nothing else on the car. I had previously gone to Gerber to get an estimate which ended up being somewhere in the $800 range which was completely crazy for a mirror replacement. However D&R's oil change prices are fair so I thought u know what maybe getting the mirror replaced might be the same way. Honestly their labor was pretty fair. That being said Im pretty sure I know where they make up that money from. D&Rs labor was $300 less than Gerber but somehow the estimate for the job came $70 less than Gerber's $800 job. When I looked a little closer at the estimate I realized that D&R was charging me $500 for the new mirror. I thought this sounded like a little much for a mirror so I decided to do some research on cost for parts. will I did this research I made sure only to look at new mirrors (nothing used). After calling Mazda ( I have a Mazda 3) I found out custom ordered parts for my car specifically would run me about $270 which is over $200 less than D&R. When I found this out I contacted D&R and asked if I could have the parts ordered from Mazda the company to them in order to fix my car. This was because at this point D&R still had the best labor costs. I was immediately shut down with them telling me that it was a risk to my car and they would not be installing any part that they didn't supply. Yeah that's right D&R refused to take parts directly ordered to them from the car company I had the car of because it was going to cost them I big portion of the crazy inflated prices that they where trying to charge me for the mirror. After some deliberation I decided to take my car to a nearby Mazda dealership who's labor was more expensive. After everything it will end up costing me $400 total for a new mirror and to have it put on. Over $300 less than D&R. read more

My car broke down on the expressway, and I needed to get it taken care of quickly. It was too far away for me to have it towed to my local mechanic, so the tow truck driver recommended a couple of local mechanics. I contacted D & R Autoworks, and every step of the process was professional, helpful, and inspired confidence in their ability. Their staff communicated clearly, and explained the issues in a way I could easily understand. They also emailed me pictures of the damage with notes on what was wrong and how they intended to repair it. The work was completed according to their cost and time estimates (next day), and they were able to bill the tow truck cost directly, as well, which made the billing process easier for me. I brought my sons Mustang there a while ago and they are close to double the cost of local repair shops like HP Auto and Lou's. Both of which have great pricing and service. They charge dealership pricing but are a local garage shop. They do claim they use OEM parts which is a positive if you feel you need them. I did get a kick out how they compare themselves with Doctors, LOL.. I also scratched my head on how they respond so negatively to all posts less than 5 stars! Not good business at all. Big mistake going here. I grew up working on cars and know enough to know when I am being over charged.They wont lift a finger with charging you, I'm surprised I didn't get billed for the lift home. I brought my 2001 BMW in for a break job about 14 years ago, I was told the pads were the same as what the dealer would put on , but for $300 less. As it turned out they were not the same. I had the dealer do them right. I had my son look for a auto-shop to check his emissions issues. He picked D&R, $380 of "Testing and analyzing" later I got a quote to repair multiple items unrelated to emissions. D&R said they were related, but I knew better. I took the car to two other mechanics near town and was told what the emissions problem was for N/C! I had to go back to D&R this week because the power steering went and they were the last shop to work on the drive belt and tensioner, plus I spent all the money a month earlier for "inspect and analyze". They charged me another $76 to tell me my power steering pump was broken, just wrong. No way to build a customer relationship. When I objected to the $76 they told me that all mechanics do it and if they don't charge you up front they will pad the bill later. Wrong! In the end I got a mechanic to look at the car for FREE (imagine that) and charged me 40% less to fix the pump. And, 50% less to fix the radiator read more

Hit a curb with my car. Brought it to D&R for an estimate. They wanted to replace a lot of stuff including both struts, ball joints, wheel hub, wheel bearings, lower control arm, knuckle assembly. Quote came to $2,369.46. I took it to Lou's Garage for a second opinion and he said it sounded like they were just shot gunning the problem. Lou's replaced the control arm, spindle and abs sensor. Cost me $690.50 and car runs great. Also D&R charged me $64 for the estimate even though they didn't tell me up front and there are no signs saying there is a charge for estimates. read more

Went in for a basic oil change a number of days ago. I have never used D & R before. All I can say, supposedly they used an inferior damaged oil filter and that is why all the oil leaked in my driveway and in my garage. Now I have to power wash the garage and driveway. I wish instead of making sure that they had a list of other vehicle concerns to read to me and sell me on and show me vials of what my car fluids looked liked that they had paid closer attention to the product they were installing in my car so that way I would not have to waste time cleaning oil from my driveway and garage before my kids get home. After writing my review, I did contact D & R and they offered to come and clean the garage and driveway at a later date. Having a 6 and 4 year old, I cannot wait and have to do the power washing asap so no one falls and harms themselves. Dan, did offer to comp my next oil change. But, I plan on using my dealer instead, I have never had any bad oil changes or experienced this before so I will stick with what has worked for me and go to the dealer I purchased the vehicle from. Dan, as stated in the above response, yes you did offer to send a porter and I appreciate it. As it could not be done today per your conversation, I could not afford to let the that amount of oil to sit for a any period of time. I brought my car to D&R Auto to have a lot of work done. They fixed my shakey brakes and some worn down hardware. The total seemed a little steep, costing me nearly $700, which at the time seemed reasonable considering all the work that needed to be done. Also, they drove me to work and let me drive a loaner car while they worked on my car. At the time, I was very pleased with the services they offered. A few months later, my brakes began to shake again. I remembered that D&R offered a warranty on their services so I brought my car in. They claimed that my brakes were bad due to wear and they would not be covered under the warranty. Seeing as how I have never needed my brakes to be repaired that frequently, their claim seemed shady. They stated that i needed front and back brake pads and rotors, new hardware, and they suggested replacing my wiper blades. All of this was estimated to cost me another $700 Thankfully, I got another opinion from a different auto shop, Javier's Garage; a place that was recommended to me by a good friend. Javier said my brake pads were brand new and the only problem was the front rotors. Also, there was loose hardware that needed replacement. He threw in an oil change and rotated my tires for a grand total of $240! That's $460 that Javier's Garage saved me!! $460!! Now, my car runs beautifully! The moral of my story: if you don't mind throwing away money, go to D&R. They get one star, simply because they offer transportation while they have your car.
