Dwayne and the Crew are OUTSTANDING! No BS, and an Experienced Team! They fixed my Lexus, which was screwed up by the incompetence of Cars of America down the street. I did not approve of repairs to my car, but they insisted on "fixing my car" The Mechanic Brendon...was heard as being High and Hungover while he worked on my car. I insisted that the team to STOP touching my car due to the unprofessional manner by the mechanic. They refused and kept going....it was HORRIBLE. I was angered and upset that someone was willing to HURT my Car. I eventually got them to stop. They bolted my lower ball joint backwards, and shoved my car to the lot. I had it transported to Clavey down the street on Chestnut. The Professionals at Clavey assessed that they broke my Wheel Bearing and Hub. They also broke my lower ball joint and damaged my brake system. The crew found multiple issues on my car due to the lack of experience by the Cars of America staff. Have been taking our vehicles to Clavey's for years and will continue to do so. Dwayne (and Dan and the rest of the Clavey crew) have always been very personable, professional, knowledgeable and honest. Their inspections are very thorough. They will tell you what needs to be done (from a safety standpoint) to what could be done (fixing minor things that don't impact the daily operation of the vehicle). There are no upsells; no pressure to do things that don't really need to be done; etc. I trust them completely with our cars. Beware they will upsell you on EVERYTHING that you didn't ask them to check. Their price quotes are EXTREEMLY higher than other places. I ended up taken my car somewhere else and paid literally half the price. When I picked up my car from their " free" inspection (they fraudulently adveetise) I was told that would be a $90 fee for them to look at my car. This place is sleezy. The place i ended up getting my car fixed at, Goltz, even gave me a loaner car for the day at no charge and did try to upsell me a bunch of flushes new tires and garbage. read more

I stopped by to ask if a small problem in my car's electrical system would be something they would like to address. The Service Manager, Dwayne Allen, listened carefully and then asked if we could look at it briefly. In less than two minutes, he diagnosed and fixed the problem at no charge. A family owned businesses offering great customer service, quality work & honesty upfront with quotes and options available to the customer. Jody & Carol who answer phones are especially friendly, and will try their best to get you in o even have them take a look at what u need before scheduling an appointment. And when I called literally within the hour Jeff was looking at my car. Needing new tires on my Van, he offered me three different options, prices but all quality tires to fit may accessible van as it's a heavy vehicle. Not only was he able to order tires on Monday. Came in Tuesday and my car was in the shop Wed all day. They even provide at no cost a vehicle for the customer to drive in the absence of their own car while it's being worked on. On Tuesday I brought my car in to Clavey. I had a slow leak in my tire on my Lexus RX350. They took off the tire, and found the leak. There was a nail in the tire. They didn't have the tire in stock, and told me there was a Lexus dealer nearby and they would probably have one.They did. The place had many great reviews from 3-4 years ago. A trusted friend had mentioned their name a while back. The mechanic I have been going to for non-dealer repairs retired during Covid and I was looking for a reliable place. The front cover under the car got lose and one end was touching the ground, a minor job. When I went in the person took a look and said $45 for that work. There were 4 mechanics sitting around, having coffee and talking. All the person had to do was lift the car, pull the cover in and tighten the 2 screws. Took him 15 min tops. $45 felt well too much for the job. Everyone was nice, but for a small job like that there was not much to talk to begin with. I did not feel I got a fare price, more like taken advantage of. My score is because of the price, not the actual service. read more

What a great experience from start to finish! This family-owned gem came by recommendation. I had been driving into Chicago to an auto place that shall not be named for a recurring problem. At least weekly, I was getting the annoying "Low Tire Pressure" ding in my vehicle. After three trips in and being told there was nothing wrong, no hole, no leak...they filled the tire up and sent me home with a "Good luck!" Enter: Clavey Auto I rolled in before a big road trip with the same irritating problem and in 20 mins, I had one of the Clavey brothers personally bring my dirty, debris-filled rim into me to show me the problem. It needed to be cleaned and resealed. Hello! How did the other place not take this apart and see that? Oh well. I have a new auto service and it's IN GLENVIEW! Everyone there is super professional and friendly. All the ladies who work the desk are amazing. I absolutely love that the technicians bring out your actual parts and show you the issues and confirm the work they are going to do. And it's all done at a fair price. Except for warranty work only available at dealerships, my cars had rarely seen the inside of any shop. In my earlier years I was a DIY guy and had done most of my own car work like rotating tires, replacing oil, spark plugs, brakes, batteries and more. But age has crept up and I now use Clavey for work since moving to Glenview. I recently needed a battery for my car. As it was in the trunk, this was no simple effort as the trunk lining had to be removed to even reach the battery, I went to Clavey with a slight concern with "unusual" repair. Not only did they assure me no big deal, but they finished the job far quicker than I imagined. When I saw the great job they had done, I asked them how their mechanics had become so skilled in less common repairs. They noted that Clavey mechanics stay current through ongoing training with NAPA. NAPA itself notes it is "on the forefront of our industry by delivering on product innovation, relevant training, and technology offerings that give our wholesale customers the tools needed to be successful." Thus Clavey can readily compete with dealerships on skills, and beat them on cost. As for customer service, no dealership has ever come close to the fairness, friendliness, and honesty exhibited by Jeff and Jack Clavey and their staff. This is my first ever yelp review. I felt compelled to leave this review because of how bad my experience was. If I can give them negative stars, I would. Where do I start? I chose to try this place because it has a perfect yelp review and my wife came here a few times, no problems. After working overnight, I dropped off my car for an oil change and routine maintenance. They called my wife with a bill of $560. After glancing at the bill with sleepiness, I asked them to lower the amount to 500 which they agreed to. They told me they will finish at 3:00 pm. no problem. Close to 3:45 rolls around no phone call. I call them and say they are almost finished. Then I go there and look at the invoice with now more clear eyes after sleeping. Most of the prices were reasonable but they added $100 on charges I've never seen before. Now I'm not a car expert but clean battery terminal($37.50) and four wheel brake inspection (62.50)? I verified with my car friends who told me the rest of the prices were reasonable but the two I mentioned were not. They told me i was soon due new brakes and quoted me $671. Upon looking at that invoice, they charged me for a brake fluid flush ($125)after I just had it done and paid for it during my maintenance. Their reason was that it is standard for that to go in the invoice for brakes. After all this, I honestly would have let it all go and search for another auto shop. But as I drove home I noticed there were black oil spots on my front passenger seat and on the front glove compartment (when they changed my filter). That was the last straw and I concluded that I had verbalize my frustration to the person I dealt with, a Rich. As I told Rich, I have a hard time understanding how this was a family business of 60 years (which they advertise) after my experience and I will never return to this place again. I give him credit though, he did admit that they dropped the ball on this one. read more

Fantastic service and value. Needed a wheel bearing replaced and my family mechanic had retired. I asked around my neighbors for recommendations and Clavey was one of three Glenview repair shops that I narrowed it down to. They were also by far the most cost effective and honest. For this specific repair all 3 places I called told me I needed the same work done. 1 place wanted to charge me over $80 to "diagnose" the problem after I took it to them and they had already test driven my car to confirm what I told them was indeed the problem. I'm not going to name the other places, because it's not to say they won't do a good job. Clavey earned my business and recommendation and future referrals as they were fair and honest. Found these guys years ago on NPR's Car Talk website where they were highly rated. They are honest, transparent, proactive, service oriented and highly competent. They have fixed issues that the dealer could not figure out and in one case actually purchased diagnostic equipment to resolve a stubborn trouble code on one of my Subaru's. Needless to say they are my go to mechanic for my Honda's and my 10 year old outback (which I plan on keeping till its a 15 year old outback at least) . They also offer a great detailing service. I won't go as far as Chris in saying that Clavey Auto is heaven, but I have been pleased with their service over the past 4 years. A friend recommended them to me, saying that they had a very loyal customer base in Glenview. I have found them to be friendly and honest, not "finding" issues when there aren't any. The work has been good and on-time. I also enjoy their courtesy car when available, so I can drop my car off and then continue on to work, since my employment is about 15 miles away. They do charge a diagnostic charge which doesn't apply to their work, which is a slight downer. But in the long run, I would rather pay that then be rolling the dice with other mechanics and dealer garages who seem to find numerous issues when I take it in for routine maintenance. Overall, Clavey Auto is a good local repair service, and I would definitely recommend them. read more

I recently moved back to Illinois from living in Seattle these last 8 years and have quite a bit of work to do on my car. I was referred to Clavey and am really happy with the service they provided. They were easy to set up an appointment with and was able to do all the work (which included changing the timing belt which is a larger job) in less time than anticipated. Plus it was half the cost than another shop quoted me. My car was so clean when I got it back too which was really nice - they even vacuumed the inside. This seems like a good place to take your car, until you experience some of their work. They left the windows open on my car during a downpour, leaving the inside soaking wet, including my leather seats and the console. This caused several lights to go out inside the console and dash. They refused to take responsibility for their error. After further pressing them to find out what happened, they said they would talk to the guy who was responsible for the cars and their windows, "Jesus." I never received a call back as promised and months later I get a call today. They didn't call to follow up on their error but to give me a quote they were also supposed to give me months ago. When confronted with additional supporting information proving that the water was the issue with the lighting going out, they ignored me and said well if you want to pay us to work on this other repair let us know. In addition to this issue, they put my tires on the wrong wheels and then after they switched them the tires were severely out of balance, though they were fine before they switched them front to back. I had to pay them more money to have them fix this problem that didn't exist before they touched the tires the second time. It's hard to find a trustworthy mechanic. Keep looking. read more

Some people in the Glen community that I know speak highly of this place. I had to get some maintenance work done and so I contact them to receive a quote. One was transmission fluid change and upon research, my car requires a special fluid type specific to my model which costs significantly more. So I called to make sure they use the right fluid and asked to re-quote if needed. I was then told not to worry since they only use oil or fluid which "meets or exceeds specifications set forth by the vehicle manufacturer". I dropped off the car in the morning and received a call in the afternoon confirming that everything has been done and I can pick it up. Sure enough, I was told that upon draining the fluid, they did realize that it requires a specific type so they went ahead and purchased them to fill it in my car. However, they were nice enough to honor the original quote and didn't even charge me extra. No wonder they have been around in this community for so long, 60+ years I believe.
