Terrible customer service at this location. Very disappointed because I loved their selection of produce. My mother asked the cashier for medicine from their locked case because there wasn't anyone to help on the sales floor, and was refused with the cashier saying, "There is not enough employees to help get it out." I called the store to speak with a manager and was told by a rude lady, "manager 'no' here, tomorrow." And got hung up on. I called back to ask for her name, and she told me "reyna" and hung up again. So now I'm leaving a review, which was asked for at the bottom of the receipt, and yes, corporate will be contacted as well. I really hope this changes. The employees are rude here. read more

This super is just WOW! I just love walking in the doors of Cardenas. The view is awesome and their selections are incredible. Pre-cooked foods they offer are as good as you can find most places. I have shopped New Sagaya in Anchorage which is also Incredible, Cardenas is 4 times as much incredible. read more

My friends think that it's funny that I like to Yelp .. So they wanted to bring me some place that they thought was Yelp worthy. (they don't do Yelp)... So, knowing that I am a fan of good Mexican food and cooking it they brought me here to Cardenas. Cardenas is like the best thing wrapped into one store. You know that ice cream man that pushes a cart making shaved snow with flavored syrup on top. Well, those things are called raspados and they have a raspodo area in here which makes fresh (no crap) toppings. Like strawberry, coconut, tamarindo the list goes on. They have mangos on a stick with pico de gallo on top... Fresh fruit salads.. THE BEST MEXICAN BAKERY IN THE WORLD TOO! The cakes are amazing to look at. Huge over sized 15-enera and wedding cakes here that are so goddy it's insane! There is also a tortilleria here where they make fresh corn and flour tortillas. YES, HOMEMADE! There is even a little area where they grill chicken on a huge grill in front of you. They make fresh salsa here too. They even have little sample booths here like Costco. Except better because it's their food that are samples. Fresh and good! They have a meat department here as well as a seafood department. This place was rad! I left with tortillas and some pastries. The grocery part is rad too. I just wish that one of these stores would open in Orange County. This place was super rad and super clean. I'm coming back to the area today so I am for sure coming back here. I am bringing the boy here today. I think that he would dig it just as I did. Why four stars.. Well.... customer service sucks ass here. We waited F-O-R-E-V-E-R! to order and pay at the raspado area. Thought I added my review but guess not. Oh well here goes...we went in a few days ago and this is a very nice (clean) Mexican market with an awesome "food court" area with street tacos (how they were oUt of pollo I will never know but hey..) so I can't comment on how the food tasted. I will say the pork looked very dry like it had been sitting awhile. But won't dock them for that as the market is still very cool! We grabbed some guacamole which was little heavy on the veggies inside of it than I liked and the avocados were a little watery but that is probably because they are Mexico avocados not California and it was a little bland for me... but nothing a few of their grilled jalapeños (which were BEAUTIFUL) won't solve. Then grabbed some green sauce for my tamales and some eye from their cheese bar! Like who does that? Loved their cheese bar!!! And the produce is so plentiful and clean. All in all a great store and I will definitely go back! read more

Tried this place for the first time today (8/23) to feed 8 people. We bought 3lbs of Carne Asada (w/ condiments). It was so salty we couldn't eat it. Add the fact it's over half hamburger meat. Cardenas is like the Disneyland of Mexican grocery stores. My mom had never been so my visit was the perfect excuse. It's like a wonderland in there! We went in looking specifically for this jello dessert thing that a friend of hers once brought to a party. We found that and so much more! (plus beef lips -eeeewwww. If I hadn't thought about being a vegetarian yet, I would now.) I have a piece of chocolate flan cake waiting for me in the fridge right now! I adore this place. When I am in Palm Springs, and want to set the vibe for my stay, all the food comes from this place. As a wana-be Mexican, this place is a shrine. I bring the kids here, and they can cruise around the large market, and get the feel for the supermercados in Mexico. The meat counter is reason enough to buy a grill. The money you save will pay for it. I like the various meats "preparada", and there are many, many trips to this counter that will fill my vacation. The place has a tortilla factory, so it start to be like a mexican Whole Foods -- lots to snack out this machine. Chips are a bit more oily, so they might not be to your taste. They have a huge selection of prepared foods. You will be torn whether to buy their grilled meats or cook your own. The price will not help you decide. Today I tried a new salsa they have: gaucatillo -- basically a mixture of guacamole and tomatillo salsa. Delicious -- and not too hot. Also to be checked out is the cheeses. They have all the basics, and it seems like they turn much over on volume. I am a bit worried I am so ga ga over this place, but Palm Spring can be devoid of ethic destinations, and this definitely fills the bill. read more

I was recently in California to visit with friends and wanted to stop at a grocery store to pick up some snacks and food to make dinner. I discovered Cardenas using Yelp as we had no idea where there was a market in the area. Glad we chose this one. Being from South Texas we found the selection to be amazing. The selection of Mexican products was excellent. I picked up some fresh guacamole and it was amazing. Being from South Texas, liquor is not sold in stores and when I saw the liquor section my jaw dropped (I was planning to pick up some from a liquor store, but this made it that much easier). Overall I would say this market has it all and the produce is well taken care of and definitely fresh looking. read more

I really enjoy going to this Mexican market. I head straight for the bakery goods, then the fruits and vegetables (great prices ) mexican style cheeses,,fresh salsa and then stop for a lunch with good tacos or carne asada. It is a big mexican deli. There are so many dishes, I'm sure you will find something you like. A small negative is sometimes the lines can be long and the help can't keep up with cleaning the tables. Went with my husband for a quick bite at their taco counter. Got the two taco combo, one pork, one tripe. husband ordered two lengua (beef tounge) tacos and one fish taco. Went to sit down and there was not a single clean table. We gad to use napkins to wipe a table down. Pretty gross! Generous portions of rice and beans but this didn't make up for the lack of flavor and overall bad food. Looks like the food sits in the steam tables until it's sold. Will not go back ever. I want to apologize to my girlfriend in advance.. but I think I found true love... These tacos..are..A...MAZING! I've gone to more taco shops and Mexican restaurants than I can count, and this is as close as it gets to authentic Mexican tacos(what I've had so far two nights in a row now) in this valley. Al Pastor, Cabeza, Carnitas, Chivo, Tripa, Tripe, etc. to name a few that are hard to get elsewhere, all of which are made with an authentic Mexican recipe. Just like in Mexico when you get an upset stomach "because you're not used to it", same thing happens here, its wonderful! That is how I know this is real, true love, and its been here all this time, and for only a $1.50 a taco! read more

If your a fan of Mexican food then you will definitely want to make a stop here! They carry a huge variety of groceries to make great food for your lunch or dinner meals. They also have food to go which Posole was on their menu and i would recommend which is very delicious. They carry fresh guacamole, tortilla chips, salsa, pinto beans, and homemade flour and corn tortillas in a package. There are many more items too many to name but you will find everything you need to make some get bar-b-q chicken and beef meals here too because they carry plenty of meat products also. This is a really good Mexican Supermarket with a full service meat and fish counter as well as a full service deli and cheese counter and a full restaurant and tortilleria. The vegetables are generally very inexpensive and good. It is hard to pass up 6 small avocados for a dollar to pay two dollars for one large one at the big name supermarkets. Their weekly specials are really especial. This place has soul. read more

I am very disappointed that this location is not willing to work with it's customers. I live in Orange and wanted to order a fruit tray for a party in Indio. I cannot physically be there because I live 2 hours away and will not arrive till 8:00 am in the morning. I said I want to pay for it, all they need to do is get my information over the phone. They do not do that. You have to go in person to order any kind of food. That is so primative. I will get my fruit from Costco and not waste my time with this Market. There needs to be another mexican market people can shop at in Indio. Lost my business for ever. read more

Fantastic modern Mexican supermarket with their own tortilla factory in the store as well as freshly prepared guac and tons of different kids of salsas and chips. Their grilled chicken take out dinner is EXCELLENT- marinated in citrus and then grilled, cut and boxed for you with various sides. All the bakery items are fantastic- my favorite flan- and the produce is fresh. as is the queso fresco and other Mexican style cheese.The fresh fruit smoothies and juices are also great. You can come here and gather all you need for a meal to take out cooked or a meal to make- or sit in the store and have a lunch or snack.. Service can be a bit slow do don't be in a rush. I love this store. If you have a sweet tooth, get a piece or a whole choco-flan cake. Don;t ask. Just get it. You will thank me. read more

We go into Indio from Indian Wells as Cardenas has the best buys on fresh produce that we can find in the desert. We want to find their ad on-line but don't know how. They have great sales and we usually like the sales on Thursday. I see produce that is not carried in other stores. The staff is helpful in explaining new things and then I can tell others after I try it at home. Occasionally we buy seafood or tortillas but the produce is why we like the market. read more

this spot was a complete stumble upon find one night .. it was across the street from the hotel we were stayin at so why not check it out ... the carnitas burrito was on sale for 3.99 so i tried that and a few tacos . WOW the tortillas were fresh the salsa bar had an avocado/cilantro/salsa verde combo thing that was by far the tastiest thing ive come across in some time .. that alone will give it 4 stars .. they sell it by the pint as well so if you live in the area grab some .. we went to get beer but i left with feast .. i had the burrito for breakfast the next day and it was still bomb . great spot if you need to do a market run and grab a bite to eat in one stop .. read more

Terrible service! The tamales were not fully cooked so when I went to tell the Cocina they looked at me like I was crazy. When asked to change them they told me I would have to pay extra. When I spoke to the store manager he didn't even make contact he shrugged it off. read more

This was my favorite place for authentic Mexican take out hot orders, until today......Been going there for over a year for fresh burritos to go. Today they had a new woman trying to make burritos, but she was totally clueless. Didn't know how to move the tortillas from the cooking plate to the preparing station, couldnt get the ingredients correct, and couldn't fold them. They looked awful and tasted even worse. Help her find a job she can do, because food prep isn't one of them. Probably wont return after this. :( read more
