UNFORTUNATELY CAPE BEAR HAS CLOSED IT'S DOORS AND IS FOR SALE…read more Overlooking the Cardigan River this restaurant should be a little more packed by Islanders and visitors alike. Today, however, was not the case but we had our choice of a booth or table We chose a booth overlooking the river. And I am glad that we did as the view was magnificent and a helicopter landed just this side of the river. The owner greeted us with a warm smile and gave us excellent service! Maurice and Tammy Vautour, have teamed up to make their restaurant a cozy, marine themed restaurant. The menu contains a wonderful array of sea faring dishes as well as some surprises along the way. My sister in law chose the fish n chips (1 piece of halibut) and I a stuffed butter squash pasta smothered in a sauce with black olives. Both meals were ample in size and very palatable. Two homemade molasses rolls came with our meal. The rolls are freshly made each day! And oh so delicious. Desserts were suggested but passed as the meals filled both of us. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable about each dish on the menu. I am a person with disabilities and must say that they have a great setup in the washroom. From a high-rise low flush toilet to a basket filled with baby needs (diapers to wipes to powders and creams) plus adult needs. When one gets to the sink one has a choice of soap or foam and there is even a large jar of hand cream. Not to mention cleanliness throughout. There is even a BBQ on Saturday's. UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT IS ALSO FOR SALE.

I had lunch today at the Main Street Pub in Montague. It's in the basement of the Pizza Delight…read more I was the only one there for lunch ... a few people came in but they headed to the gambling machines in the back. I was torn between lasagna or the Main Street burger and wedges. My server didn't sell the lasagna ("it's just noodles and sauce") so I went with the burger. When it arrived, the burger looked like a substantial meal but it wasn't all that great. The patties were too big and overpowered the bun. Plus I suspect the patties were cooked ahead of time and just warmed up on the grill as they were really dry and barely warm on the inside. The wedges were nothing special. I think this would be a fun place to go on a Friday night for drinks and music but not for a meal.

The waitress was very nice and offered to turn down the music that was playing out of speakers next to the booth we were sat down at. The food was GREAT, the nachos, burgers and especially onion rings were out of this world bursting with flavour and perfectly cooked. The poutine however had no gravy on it? It was essentially cheese fries with chicken. I dont know if this was intended or an accident maybe? Wasn't that big of a deal and didnt ruin the experience. Will definitely be going again very soon.

Best of all, the food was delicious and tasted fresh and local. There were a nice range of lunch options and delicious beverages. After a week traveling coastal locations throughout New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, it was delightful to have a menu that features seafood, but also gave a fresh and flavorful take on enjoying such options. The view and friendly service really set it apart from other places we've visited though.

The chowder had tender chunks of lobster, haddock and scallops, and the creamy broth was in the Goldilocks zone of not too thick and not too thin. A lovely roll that was crisp on the outside and had a light crumb was made for dipping! My wife's chicken and brie roll with a tomato and feta soup was a light but flavourful lunch, and a solid deal at just $15. Bonus points to HH for having GF options for all of their buns and pizzas too! On a return visit after we had moved back to the county, I leaned into the pub side of the menu, and tried the house burger, which comes topped with the usual suspects, plus cheese and bacon. It was a good burger - a thick, pub-style patty, melty cheese, crisp bacon, and the bun held up well. Solid fundamentals, if no real standout elements. The fries were of the crispy-coated variety, which I'm a fan of. Oddly, the ends of each fry were much more browned than the rest, which reminded me of fries that you bake at home. Not a strike against them, it just seemed odd. My wife's shepherd's pie was a hearty plate. The spacious casserole dish was packed with meat and potatoes, and given a non-traditional slathering of melted cheese for good measure. I did my husband due diligence and finished off what my wife didn't have room for. Harbour House is doing some above average grub, especially when you know the right dishes to get.
