Did some expensive preventative maintenance and picked it up. Got on the highway and saw the check engine light come on. Drove back to the shop and they checked the code and found that a hose wasn't tightened. Well, that was interesting. Everything!!! When I purchased my Honda the crew responsible goff etc preparing the car for delivery caused two outward dents in the door. They did repair the dents but this should not have happened in the first place. Service, my old 1992 civic went in for a timing belt replacement the mechanic did not tighten bolts holding the crankshaft pulley. Service, the mechanic broke three of the five replaceable body clips, it appears they just grabbed and ripped the plastic shield off without carefully trying to remove the clips. Very unprofessional. It's like they hired a bunch of apes to work on the vehicles. They just don't care. I used to like Cardinal when Stan ran the dealership. Now it is more like a stealership. This dealership has gone downhill from what it used to be 20+ years ago. Their new service manager (SM) is all talk & offers long standing customers nothing but disappointment. On his own volition, one day I mentioned being upset about a recall for an unprecedented issue of peeling paint on my 2014 Pilot that for some reason I never received. This recall was issued years after & was apparently only valid for a very short window. After being alerted to it randomly by a tire dealer, I had called Cardinal & asked for help. At that time I was told by the old SM to call corporate & ask for an exemption. I did & was quickly told I was too late. So when this new SM offered to assist me, I was ecstatic! He asked me to come take pics, to send my original email & to specifically document the over $200k in Honda items I have purchased over the past 2 decades, proving how loyal I am to the brand. He said he would pass it along to his regional rep & based on his experience with them, he knew they would offer me something. He said he couldn't guarantee 100% or even 50% but he assured me they would come back with something based upon what he's seen them do prior for customers with my level of loyalty to Honda. Saying, "dealing with corporate you are just a number...dealing with the local rep your personal relationships are taken into account"....3 MONTHS PASS, with multiple voicemails to the SM & he completely ghosts me, not one phone call returned that whole time. I probably left 6 messages. So being totally disgusted, a couple weeks ago I asked to speak to the SM's boss who called me back, apologized & assured me he would speak to the SM & get back to me...& guess what? A week passed, & he never called me back either. So today, I just happen to call on my Civic in for service & finally got the SM on the phone, He proceeded to tell me that the regional rep was NOT going to offer me anything, & used being sick for a couple weeks as the excuse for not calling me back for 3 months somehow. He proceeds to basically tell me that he never promised me anything & denied using any verbiage about his past experiences with this rep & how he's helped others with my level of brand loyalty. I asked if I could see the denial & was told that wasn't for my eyes to see. I can only believe that he never did anything with all the info he asked me to provide & is choosing to gaslight me instead. After hanging up with the SM, I called his boss from the number listed in my phone from his previous call to me and this person, which I assume is senior management, jumped down my throat for calling his personal cell. Again, he HAD CALLED ME from this number. I attempted to summarize how ridiculous and unprofessional these past 3 months have been, and how upset I was that now both of them had never gotten back to ME as promised...& all this guy would do is loudly talk over me and tell me that he didn't appreciate my tone. Ha! As if someone that has been blown off for 3 months, by multiple levels of management, been lied to, and is now being talked over, wouldn't be upset! 3 months ago I gave this dealership business yet again by purchasing my 5th vehicle because of the words & essential promises of the SM to only be rudely treated by 2 levels of "professionals" there. Not only did I experience all of this, but the Civic I recently purchased, has been repeatedly in the shop since buying it used from their salesman who had traded it in. This time, I was told it would be ready at 5pm, & at 4pm I called to see if it would be ready any sooner so I wouldn't be late for an event...only to be told that they hadn't actually even started working on it & asked if they could have it for a 3rd day!!! I'm convinced that no one can uphold their word or do their job efficiently in service. Even my Pilot has been in for the brakes 3x because the "brake inspection" failed to catch all issues at the same time resulting in me having to replace the same parts multiple times. Wasting people's time & money seems to be the new mission statement that this service department operates by. read more

I decided I needed to go to Connecticut to buy one, I had done lots of homework and knew what I wanted and all of the numbers including trade value. This was my first trip to Cardinal and I was really impresssed. Cam, my sales person, seemed to know everything about Hondas. And they gave me what my trade was really worth. Bought a certified preowned car that has non stop issues. Had to file a complaint with corporate Honda as they were non responsive or even willing to look at my car even though I paid for the highest extended warranty for a car I haven't even put 30,000 miles on. Come to find our their sales manager said they refused service because "I was so hostile the last time I was in the facility that the cops had to be called and I had to physically be dragged out" this was not true at all. Service appointments take forever. Oil change/tire rotation/inspection took 3 hours. They forgot to put the air filters back in the car, had to go back. Immediately upon driving I realized I had to turn wheel quarter inch left to go straight. Alignment totally off. Waited another two hours for that to be looked at. Nicole was the greatest person to work with and helped me get my very first honda back in 2021 when I traded in my toyota corolla for the honda civic 2016. Then when I got into a accident few months after getting the honda. I went back and Nicole helped me get a brand new honda civic hatchback sport 2022 in dec of 2021! best decision ive made. Recently purchased a new Ridgeline from Carinal Honda. The initial interaction was actually very good. Knowledgeable and responsive. The issue came with the Trade in. I have a 2011 Land Rover. During the purchase process it was in the shop. The new truck arrived before the repairs were completed. Cardinal told me let's do the sale and just bring it in after and we will appraise it and write you a check. The little voice in my head was telling me to wait. I did not listen. I trusted them. Big mistake. So we do the deal but when I bring my car in low and behold they will not even make an offer. It was clear that once my check had cleared they had ZERO interest in my "Customer Satisfaction"! I had given up all my leverage and they did not care in the least about me or my future business. Bottom line I love my new Honda and would highly recommend it, however I would think twice about buying one from Cardinal Honda. read more

This is a fantastic place to take your vehicle if you like spending money on things that don't need fixing. I took my 2010 Insight in to fix a problem with the IMA system. After a couple hours of (expensive) work my "service adviser," Don, told me that my underdash fuse box was "melted." He told me that I was very lucky that there wasn't a fire in my vehicle, and that it would be a $1300 dollar repair. Funnily enough, in the one month since I had received an alignment at Honda, my vehicle had sprung up another ~$2000 worth of repairs in addition to the fusebox. Don told me "he just wanted to give me the full picture" and gently threw in that they would give me the most I'd find for the vehicle as a trade in. How convenient. I am mostly convinced that the Service Advisers are there to try to get you to purchase a new vehicle from Honda. After taking the diagnostic information they provided (the only useful thing they did), 2 hours of googling told me that my fusebox was almost certainly not the issue. I went in the next day to look at the molten fusebox, and low and behold, suddenly it was not melted, but had an internal short. How convenient. I tried to communicate what I had found in my leisurely googling, but they insisted they were correct, and refused to run any tests to check the other component I thought was broken (the cooling fan). I decided to take my vehicle home and replace the cooling fan myself. It fixed the issue. Either they are snakes who try to rip you off for things that don't need to be fixed, or they are incompetent. In the end who knows, but really who cares? Find somewhere better until they do better. read more

I've had it with the charlatans in service. Always telling me something needs work that doesn't. They advised me to replace my automatic transmission fluid. I have a standard. They replace parts without consent when it's obvious I would have a spare and I know for a fact the part didn't need replaced. They tell me specs are Honda standard when I know for a fact they're not. Update 5/29/19: Steve Reardon, no thank you. I've been given false information and false recommendations from several different people in service. It's obviously Cardinal policy. I wouldn't expect you would be different. While I fully appreciate the specific gripes that I've read here, I've never had Cardinal Honda come up with an unnecessary repairs for my 2008 Odyssey. We bought the car from them in 2010, and it has always been a joy. When looking to replace another car, my first stop was Cardinal; despite several test drives, one with a salesman, they simply didn't have a car I wanted this time. Their desk personnel are reasonably informed, and the actual mechanic is readily available for further information. Aside from normal scheduled maintenance, the only things I ever needed was a warranteed CD unit replacement that was handled quickly, with no surprises, and the installation of my driver-side high beam light bulb, which I annoyingly found impossible to install myself. For the bulb install, they only charged me for the listed 15 minute shop time, even though it took two guys almost 45 minutes of exasperation to install ( so it wasn't just me, it was the Honda design department). For our next car, if they Honda has an electric awd to my liking I wouldn't hesitate to get it from them. read more

This was our 6th Honda purchase and the second from this dealer. We had a specific used car in mind and getting the test drive was easy. We didn't have to go inside! When we decided we would take the car and headed inside for paperwork, many employees were walking around with no masks, or masks not covering their noses. The Finance guy was one of them. We completed the paperwork and set up a time to pick up the car. We arrived and saw our salesman who told the finance guy we were there and then The salesman disappeared. We waited 30 minutes and the Finance Manager came down with his mask down chewing food. We signed a few more things then he went back up to his office. Finally after an hour and thirty minutes the car was ours. Now they had to find the sales person to put on the plates and gas it up. That could have been done while our paperwork was in process. 10 more minutes and they find him but he can't find the key. Finally I drove the car to the gas station and they filled the tank. I headed home and 3 miles down the road the check tire pressure sensor came on. The front tires were over inflated by 10 pounds each! Next day it rains, the wiper blades were so crappy, I could barely see. This should all be part of the pre delivery check. Clearly no one went over the car. The good news, the price is the price and there is not much pressure to make a sale. The bad news is they are not very professional and are not respectful of people's time, and don't complete a thorough review of the car. Next Honda (and we are due soon) will be purchased elsewhere. read more

If I could rate them zero stars, I would. I scheduled an appointment for service for my van online. I received an email receipt of the appointment and two email confirmations of the appointment. I arranged my day to ensure I could be at the appointment. I arrived at the dealership and it appeared to be closed. I called and there was no answer. I emailed and received no response. It has been two days since the appointment was supposed to happen and I just now received a voicemail from someone in service who spoke too fast. No apology, no explanation. I did not purchase a vehicle here but spent about 2 hours trying to make a deal and doing a test drive. As far as salesmen, Walter is excellent, he's very knowledgeable of the vehicles and is no pressure. He also follows up and provides outstanding customer support. I've got no beef with Walter and if you are looking to deal with Cardinal suggest you ask for him by name. As far as the dealer and sales management go I have 2 issues, first is they are unwilling to deal. We were looking at a new Pilot and they said straight up, these things are hot and we want full MSRP. I guess the vehicle is hot right now but it gives the impression of pull out your wallet and pay full price or we'll get the next guy in who will. Yes I know the laws of supply and demand but TrueCar will give you a certified dealer with a price atleast $1500 or more below MSRP even on a hot model. Also they price in their full 10 year, 120,000 mile warranty. Which is great if you live in Groton and plan to for the next 10 years but some people move. I'm moving in 6 months and said I wouldn't need the "Cardinal only" warranty but they wouldn't offer any type of discount for that. The 2nd issue is despite the fact that they won't deal on anything they majorly lowballed me on my trade in value, as in I purchased a vehicle from another dealer and I got $12K more for my trade than Cardinal offered. When I told them their trade offer was waaaay low, they didn't even try to come up, they just gave me a take it or leave it. So in summary, if you are willing to pay a premium for a new Honda and planning to live in the area for the next 10 years, then I honestly would recommend because their warranty and salesman is great. Walter provided outstanding support. But if you are planning on moving or looking for a discounted price or to do a trade in, go elsewhere because you will probably save money. read more

I went to the parts department to get an extra key fob. That's all I wanted was an extra key fob. Quick in and out process right? No it took forever after telling them what I wanted they wanted me to wait two hours to get a key programmed which is about 212 vs a new key fob of only 60. After going back and forth I finally told them hey just give me the key I don't care about you guys programming it. I get the key and it's already cut to a car that's not even mines. To make a long story short, I came in today Thursday just to find out the bank that approved me interest fee was too high & they assumed I didn't want it no more. Let me first say I would give no stars if it were an option. I put $500 down for Cardinal Honda to locate and retrieve a 2015 Honda fit in Passion Berry Pearl with a loan in hand. After two months of Scott F. calling every week to say they had not found one yet I got a call saying they found had finally one and it was on its way. Then I got another call saying it was at a dealer in the state but there was a "recall on a part and they couldn't get the car until after it was repaired". Fine. I called and text messaged Scott to ask for the Vin so I could get my insurance information started and it was the same over and over, "I'll ask my manager". And over and over I received no answer. A week later I call in to see why this was taking so long, if I could have the vin # and a loaner until I would finally get "my car" and spoke to another sales person, Jeff. He proceeded to tell me that the very day "my car" landed at the dealer, it was still currently at , that it had been broken into. The window smashed and the rims/ center caps were stolen. Jeff did not have an answer as to why Scott had not informed me of the situation for a week (at all actually seeing as I got the information from him). Jeff then said they would install wheel locks free of charge. (To my understanding now, they were standard in the car and the window had been broken to get the key) (Seems like lie after lie now that I look back.) At this point I was willing to come in to negotiate on the price and a loaner. I go in the next morning and ask them to lower the price of the car as it was no longer a brand new car, it was damaged, they wouldn't budge. The Manager kept saying if I didn't want that car I would just have to get a different one. Finally I asked if they could get me a lower financing rate seeing as my original loan check had expired due to the length they had taken to acquire this car. They would see what they could do, ran my credit and then proceeded to tell me they wouldn't even give me a loan without a cosigner. I was shocked seeing as I had already gotten an APR and monthly quote from them. As a 24 year old woman I demanded my refund and left without a car. I will never go back to Cardinal Honda and I will be spreading the word to everyone with ears. I went into Cardinal Honda after calling Deb Fox, my incredible sales person, in complete frustration with my 2001 car giving me long term Intermittent not starting issues and it was hot out!!. Second time that day!! I told Deb, get your F&I guy ready to talk I am on my way in! It was an wonderful experience. We discussed the various makes and models available in my price range. From the Civic to the Accord base model to a few used Accords on the lot. No pressure, just good information and no pressure. I love the NO haggling way of doing business. The price on the sticker is the price I would be paying. Yes it is Clear and Simple. I was given options on financing with a price range. I went home and came back the next day and picked out the used Accord that I wanted. Oh boy, heated leather seats, sun roof and low mileage. What more could a girl want??? When I went in on Saturday to have Deb deliver my car it was ready, gassed up and clean. Deb even came and picked me up at my home to bring me to the dealership. Great service. My experience with the Finance person, Matt Goodwin was very smooth and everything in terms of my financing and warranty was completely explained. I appreciated the fact that I could set an appointment to come in to take delivery of my car and the time was kept was very convenient for me. The total experience was amazing and I would recommend anyone to go to Cardinal Honda. Kevin Tobey and Steve Luft are right there with any questions or any help that you may need. I have bought several cars over the years, but I have never had all of the employees gather around to clap for me when I bought a car like they did that day. Sure made me feel special. Terrible experience... first off my 2006 crv had an airbag recall after 11 years of being on the road. I scheduled an appointment for 5pm. I arrived at the dealership at around 4:45 and told the receptionist i was there for the airbag recall and had a 5:00pm appointment. I then tell her i was told to tell them im looking for Ms. Martin. Ms Martin came down and introduced me to a salesman. Obviously theyre trying to sell me a car, which its a dealership...whatever. I grab my registration from the car, the manager comes out and takes my keys. At that point im thinking hes going to take my car and fix the airbag issue while they try and sell me a new vehicle (not a problem). About 15 mins later he returns my keys and they continue to try and sell me a new car. After an hour, at around 6pm, we didnt strike a deal and we parted ways. I get back in my crv and realized my car hadnt been worked on, no papers were signed and no mention of the airbags. I go back in and talked to the receptionist and she said youre suppose to go to the service desk. At this point my car couldnt get fixed because its a 2 hour fix and i had to reschedule for next monday. What bothered me the most was their first concern should have been fixing the airbags, which i mentioned first thing when i arrived and it wasnt. Their second concern should have been i will be driving another week with a faulty airbag system. All they care about is the chance at selling a vehicle. The hospitality i received because they thought i might buy a new car instead should have been given to me as an apology for driving a car with a faulty airbag system for 11 years and now an additional week. Am i naive? Yes... is safety their priority? Nope. read more

Four and a half hours we spent in the waiting room for an oil change and a tire rotation. Someone called us down to let us know that "whoever changed the oil last had stripped the bolts and the oil pan needs to be replaced". Told us that they would order the part to the tune of $400. (It would cost about $100 to order the identical part from Amazon.). We canceled the order and brought the vehicle home. The next time we brought the vehicle in for an oil change, we were told that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the oil pan. Also, one of the tires wasn't reattached properly. We pulled into Cumberland farms with our five children on board to find that we almost lost a tire. Stay as far the F away from this place as humanly possible. Complete scumbags. Steve, there is nothing to discuss. You have a horrible reputation in general. You either get it or you don't. read more

I didn't finish my review but touched something that caused it to post. This is the rest of the sad tale: after being assured that the car was ready for a cross country trip, and that the sensors were all fine (and I believe being told that two of them had been replaced), I did drive from CT to CA without incident. But then the tire pressure light started coming on again, and it was the left front tire that had lost pressure. I am now at a dealership in CA, where the service advisor just showed me the sensor from the left front tire. There is no leak in the tire but the sensor was causing a slow leak. However, the sensor shows signs of having been "repaired" with a substance for sealing leaks!!!! I have never taken this car to any other garage but Cardinal Honda and this current CA Honda dealer! The tire has worn unevenly and needs replacement. My VERY EXPENSIVE extended warranty will not cover the modified sensor that also needs to be replaced. I called Cardinal HONDA to report this finding only to get into a shouting match with "Marty" who, in the finest example of customer service, instead of apologizing for the issue that had infuriated me, and offering to check my service records at his establishment, decided to lecture me on my attitude. I agreed that I was out of order for yelling, but i am tired of being screwed around for an issue I have been dealing with since I bought the car. Finally, my service advisor here in CA has agreed to waive the service charges, and somehow will get sensor replacement covered; but I must replace the Michelin tire (over $200.00) that has worn unevenly because of the leak caused by a faulty sensor. AND THAT IS NOT CORRECT! None of the other tires show significant wear. Lesson: I would not trust Cardinal HONDA to stand behind its product or service. read more

My husband has bought all his cars ever from Cardinal, and after meeting him and moving to Connecticut, I get all of mine there as well. Do NOT buy any car from this dealership!!! The customer service sucks!!! We have been talking to Nick for a few days on a car that they have on their online inventory. Nick set up a meeting with us to view and test drive the car. We got to the dealership and someone called Nick to come down and see us. Nick proceeded to introduce himself, said that they are going to get the car we were interested in, and then handed us over to Nathaniel. As soon as Nick left the floor, Nathaniel told us that the car we were interested in was "sent to auction" and asked us if we would like to shop around for any other cars... I then told Nathaniel that we were there for a specific car and that hey should've told us that they did not have the car we were looking for, instead of wasting our time. I bought my Odyssey at Cardinal Honda and it was a great car buying experience. I thought the service department would be great too but I was wrong. Despite their online scheduling tool, they overbook. I waited 1:45 minutes for what turned out to be an overpriced oil change. When I brought it to their attention, they did everything but accept responsibility. I found their lack of honesty and disrespect for my time very off putting. And their prices...ridiculous.
