Carelli's -- a carb-loading dream in Boulder Carelli's is an "authentic" Italian gem tucked in the heart of Boulder, Colorado. First time in Colorado, first Italian dinner here -- the night before my Boulderthon half marathon. A city full of runners, carbs were calling. I snagged a Saturday 7 PM reservation by phone the night before (do the same -- weekends fill fast). We ended up accidentally going full vegetarian. No regrets. What we ate: * Asparagus & Leek Soup - Light, velvety, a perfect palate reset. * House Insalata - Crisp greens, zippy Italian dressing; simple but electric. * Angel Hair Alla Olio - A runner's dream: delicate pasta, swimming in olive oil and garlic, with a sprinkle-as-you-please bowl of parmesan. * Eggplant Parmigiana (my dinner partner's pick) - Bubbly cheese blanket, baked eggplant layers, comfort on a plate. Complimentary garlic bread showed up warm and buttery but leaned dry -- a little more olive oil would have taken it from good to grazie mille! Still, it paired nicely with the pasta's olive oil bath. Everything felt fresh, Italian without heaviness -- perfect for pre-race fueling. Service was friendly and unhurried; the dining room cozy without being cramped. Bottom line: If you're in Boulder (runner or not), book ahead, show up hungry, and expect honest Italian cooking with a few charming quirks. I'd happily come back on my next Colorado visit -- whether chasing a PR or just a good plate of pasta. (Visited September 27, 2025)

Uniqueness: A Boulder favorite with consistently great Italian food and a welcoming atmosphere Wait Time: **** (Popular but well-managed, reservations recommended) Food Quality: ***** (Always delicious, great portions) Service: ***** (Friendly, efficient, and welcoming) Setting: ***** (Cozy yet slightly upscale, great for special occasions) Cost: **** (Reasonable pricing for the quality and experience) Carelli's is one of my absolute favorite spots in Boulder. The food is always consistently great, the service is attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming with just the right touch of upscale dining. I've celebrated birthdays, graduations, and other milestones here, and it never disappoints. It's also a perfect spot for parents visiting CU students--nice enough to feel special but still casual and reasonably priced. The pasta dishes are fantastic, the pizza is excellent, and everything always comes out fresh and flavorful. Whether you're stopping in for a casual dinner or a special occasion, Carelli's is a solid choice. Would I come back? Absolutely--this place never misses.

Overpriced and my dish was inedible. Broccoli and noodles...in a pan of water. What a disappointment

    What's the dress code?

    It's Boulder

Is there a dessert menu? I don't see any desserts mentioned on the online website.

Yes, they are FABULOUS. It was my Birthday and the Decadent Chocolate Cake with Strawberries and chocolate sauce was melt in your mouth HEAVEN!

What is the corkage fee for bringing in a bottle of wine?

Colorado state law does not allow for corkage/bringing your own wine into on-premise establishments (restaurants, clubs, lounges). You may take sealed wine home purchased at the establishment.

However, there were people sitting on their outside patio. Hardy folks, I guess! My friend was nursing a sore tummy, so she just had some grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. She loves everything she's had here. It was my first time. I ordered the chicken bowl with yakisoba noodles. It was lukewarm, but that's fine for me. I think they must have microwaved it because it was steamier as you ate down the bowl. The veggies were crisp, the noodles perfect, the chicken was tender. It was spiced at what I'd call a medium level, and quite yummy. My friend then ordered their vegan chocolate pudding, which we shared. Yummy and light. My one big criticism is that they charge $4 for iced tea. I questioned it and the cashier was kind of snippy about it, but the customer behind me approached after I dispensed my tea and said she agreed it's too expensive. The meal was appropriately priced and there is plenty of food, but the drinks? C'mon. It's worth maybe $2.50. They really should reevaluate that. It's the main reason that I gave the place 4 stars instead of 5. The other people who work there were nice and helpful. I didn't grab a fork but the server who brought my bowl cheerfully went and got me a fork and napkin. Very nice. It's obviously popular, it filled up as we sat, with quite a variety of people, from babies to seniors. I might go back, but perhaps next time I'll just get water. I hope they don't charge for that!

All good. I loved having a view of the bustle of the restaurant and especially all the parties celebrating birthdays. A few employees would gather at the table while delivering dessert and sing happy birthday. A few patrons like me joined them in the serenade. Such a warm, family vibe. A lovely gentleman sat in the open bar stool next to me. Turns out he's a regular and longtime Boulder resident. He gave me some menu tips. Plus it was fun to learn about him and his business. I had the red wine on tap. Delicious and $9. Two favorite qualities in wine. I got the bolognese with linguini. It was beyond fabulous. Insert chef's kiss! I took a small container home because I knew it would make a perfect lunch the next day, and it was. The rolls are divine. Hard, crunchy exterior with softness on the interior. I had one there and brought a second home to enjoy with lunch the next day. I know how to live. I enjoyed a short chat with Mariano, the owner's son who basically grew up there. It reminded me of all my favorite places in Philadelphia where I'm originally from. I had been missing my casual Italian restaurant places but now I've found my new home. Cin Cin! I, of course, got me one and devoured in a matter of minutes. Other stuff on the menu looked and sounded great, too (Japanese Cheese Cake was one of them.) While I was eating my doughnut, a female staff came to me and asked if I wanted anything to drink (from the bar for alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverage.) I said no but she pointed to the self-service water fountain where there are clean side plates you can grab should you need one for your meal. While I was there, I checked other vendors (they have Italian, Thai to name a few.) Well, let's go back to the dessert shop. The guy behind the counter was extremely helpful. He welcomed me with a nice smile. My doughnut came out warm with freshly glazed semisweet citrusy cream on top. Like I said, so airy to a point where you would feel like going for a second one. So if you are looking for something super light especially after a meal, I recommend you go with this one.
