My dad was working in Gastonia and brought home a couple of the lunch specials from Caribbean Hut. The deal is amazing. It's so much food and you get a drink for around $7. He got the the Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken and I believe the BBQ chicken. All the meals came with a mix of rice and beans and yellow rice, cabbage and plantains. The food was so delicious. Everything was well seasoned and the flavors all mixed well. The food does have a little spice to it. So be prepared. My favorites were the Curry chicken and the Jerk chicken. Portions are amazing and the food is filling. I want to try their Beef Patties. Glad they have 2 locations in Charlotte so I can try more of their menu. I was pleasantly surprised to find this on one of my travels while I was looking for something other than the typical chain restaurants. There is absolutely nothing fancy about the location, storefront nor the interior. The interior was pretty basic, decorated with Jamaican themed decor with reggae music playing. Service counter was basically a cafeteria type set up with a huge warming table. Service was no nonsense. I placed my to-go order & my server proceeded to load up my styrofoam carry out tray with copious amounts of food! He just kept on piling more & more food into the tray. When he handed me the package, it was probably 7#s of food at least!! The star is definitely the food. I ordered oxtails and curried goat. This came with rice & peas and sautéed cabbage. My photo didn't do it justice as the tray was over flowing with food. There was probably 8 big generous pieces of oxtails. Both the oxtails and curried goat were melt-in-your mouth tender as well as very well flavored. It was all absolutely delicious!Honestly, there was enough food for 2 if not 3 people in that tray! My only complaint was that there was so much sauce that a lot leaked out of the tray into the plastic shopping bag. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that I call a hidden gem & a must try!! I can't wait to come back to try their other Jamaican specialties!!

Unfortunately I have to update this review, I have been a longtime customer with this establishment. I recently ordered online and I received the worst meal ever. I attempted to resolve via the restaurant and Grubhub. The restaurant was closed for the day and Grubhub only offered a $5 credit, which wasn't enough for a meal that wasn't even edible. The chicken was so hard it was impossible to bite. I requested rice and peas, I was giving a heap of white rice. There were no veggies, and no plantain included. This meal was a disaster. This is definitely not on brand for this establishment but it's a very disappointing experience.

All I can say, is delicious, delicious, delicious, delicious, delicious! The food was perfectly season and tender. If you haven't been to this establishment you're missing out.

This is my go to for Jamaican food! The customer service at both the Woodlawn Rd. & Gastonia location is on point & the jerk chicken, rice & peas, cabbage, beef patties, and curry chicken are my go to's!!!

Sunday afternoon adventure led me here and I was not disappointed. I ordered a jerk chicken sandwich. It came out quickly and was very tasty. Just the right amount of spice with a smokey jerk sauce with a hint of BBQ flavor. The staff was very nice. Cute little spot.

I visited this location for the first time on 4/6/2023. I didn't know Gastonia had a carribean hit so I was excited and pleased with my visit. I walked in and immediately placed my order and it was ready within 5 minutes. I ordered a medium veggie plate and it looked like a large! The food was hot and flavorful. The restaurant was clean and they played reggae music. I will be returning when I have a taste for more Carribean food :)

Top Taste Grill: A Masterclass in Jamaican fused southern cuisine…read more If you're looking for a spot that lives up to its name, look no further than Top Taste Grill. This isn't just a quick bite; it's a soul-satisfying experience that brings "Southern Quality" to every container they pack. From the moment you see the vibrant Jamaican-inspired storefront, you know you're in for something special. The Main Events The proteins here are the foundation of a legendary meal, and the variety is staggering: The Oxtails: These are a triumph of slow-cooked perfection. Rich, dark, and swimming in a savory gravy, the meat is incredibly tender and literally pulls away from the bone. The Fried Whiting: This is a gold standard for fried fish. It features a beautiful, crisp batter with a seasoning profile that suggests a deep respect for the craft. It's light, flaky, and served in generous portions. The Brown Stew Chicken: Impeccably juicy and smothered in a deep, complex sauce, this dish offers a perfect balance of savory and semi-sweet notes. The Stew Fish: For those seeking bold flavors, the stew fish is topped with a vibrant medley of sautéed peppers, onions, and carrots, adding a fresh crunch to the succulent, sauce-drenched fish. The Supporting Cast A great soul food spot is often judged by its sides, and Top Taste Grill doesn't miss: Macaroni and Cheese: This is the ultimate comfort side. It features a thick, bubbly layer of baked cheese over perfectly cooked pasta. It's rich and decadent without being overwhelming. Collard Greens: These are a standout. They maintain a firm, meaningful bite--never mushy--and are seasoned with a depth that only comes from a kitchen that knows exactly what it's doing. Yams: Bright, sweet, and tender, these add a perfect touch of sweetness to balance the savory mains. Rice and Peas: A classic Caribbean staple that acts as the perfect vessel for soaking up those incredible gravies from the chicken and oxtails. The Verdict Whether you're grabbing a box of oxtails for a hearty dinner or a crisp whiting plate for a satisfying lunch, the consistency across the menu is remarkable. The portions are substantial, the flavors are bold, and the quality is undeniably "Top-Tier." Must-Order: If it's your first time, you have to get the Collard Greens. It's the ultimate representation of what this grill does best. Its fresh and embodies the care that they use in every dish!

The cashier was sweet and personable. She was multitasking, but still managed to be fully engaged in the service she provided to us. While we waited for our food to arrive, we noticed a steady flow of customers all the way until closing time! It's clear Island Grill & Pub is a local favorite. The food is packaged up to go, but there are plenty of tables to dine-in once you have your food...and a big screen with movies and Jamaican music playing in the background to keep you entertained. The wait for the food is a bit long...but EVERYTHING came out very fresh, very authentic, and worth the wait. The portions were plentiful, the food was flavorful and seasoned well, and the items were priced well for the value. What we ordered: - Small Jerk Chicken plate with rice & peas and cabbage - Jerk Chicken pasta - Side order of Macaroni and cheese We wish we lived closer, so we could visit Island Grill & Pub regularly, but it's definitely on our list any time we travel to the Rock Hill area!

Absolutely zero "F's" were given in the food preparation. The textures were appalling, as if the food had been scorched and then left out for hours before serving. The only remotely edible thing was the cold, burnt plantains, but even those were barely tolerable. I kept biting into gritty bits that I couldn't even identify as food, which made me seriously question the safety of what I was eating. If I had access to a lab, I would submit it to see what I'd [really] been served. I ended up throwing my entire meal in the garbage. To top it off, they've changed the name of the place, which just raises even more red flags. I can't help but wonder why they felt the need to do that. It's a waste of money, time, hope and food to ever go here. They disrespected the life of the poor chicken who died for this wretched soot seasoned, curry chicken slop. If my husband or anyone suggested this place I would seriously consider throwing hands. It doesn't matter what they are calling it now. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place.

Overall, the atmosphere was lovely, the waitress was friendly and the food was good. Was it the most amazing Cuban food we've had? Absolutely not. The pork appetizer, Masitas de Cerdo, we had was the highlight. It was delicious. We were hoping it was a sign of good things to come. Unfortunately, the Vaca Frita my husband had he didn't like at all. There was a flavor to it that was almost like Cuban mixed with barbecue. I had the Mojito Chicken and it was good. Not amazing, but good flavor. My husband had some of my chicken because he thought the Vaca Frita was inedible. Now, I don't think it was that bad. However, his mom is Cuban so we have authentic Cuban food regularly, and none of these dishes tasted authentic. Expectations are everything, and had this been Cuban-Something fusion, maybe the outcome would be different. Having been to many excellent Cuban restaurants at home and while traveling, this one just didn't rank near the top.
