First time at this Golden Coral. Normally we would go to the one in Mooresville but with road construction, decided to avoid the hassel and try this one. As far as other Golden Coral locations I have tried, this one is normal just not exceptional Depending on the time of day, quality of the food varies. Catch it when the change from the breakfast to the lunch buffet, you're in luck. Food is still fresh and not overcooked on the steam tables. Otherwise, it a case of some offering dried out and if you catch one that has just been changed, very good. Servers here are very good and very friendly. I had the ham and fried chicken, and both were excellent. Of course we timed it to correspond with the buffet change. Value is very good. Prices very reasonable for what you get. Place is very clean and it's obvious they take pride in their store. We will be back but again at the buffet change. read more

Our server was great, kept checking in on us. Food was it's normal taste, aways need more flavor but have to think about others when it comes down to health problems. Overall, with it being the weekend they was a little busy, but everything flowed well. They do have a hot dog section now, and you can make waffles now. read more

This location is laid out like all the other golden corrals. Easy to navigate and find what you're looking for. The food was pretty decent. A lot of the food was coming out fresh as we got food since it was during dinner rush, so no complaints about the food. It was all fresh and hot. The only thing that was a bit off was the yeast rolls were slightly under cooked, but nothing extremely gross. I let one of the staff members know and showed them. They promptly took care of it and even asked if I would like to be notified when more were out but it really wasn't a big deal to me. I more so let them know to avoid any complaints! The staff was very friendly, collected our used plates in a timely manner, and were attentive. When we got there it was a slight wait since we had a large group but they were all very polite about it, so any larger groups obviously should expect a slight wait time during rush hours. We were of course expecting that to happen because the time of day it was! Any golden corral is very affordable but did notice their prices keep going up each time I visit ( I live in the north where we dont have these so this isn't too shocking to me that this is the case ). We ate there 2/1/24. Everything we had was good. Great fresh salad bar and fresh fruit bar. They have several hot bars including a taco bar. The fried chicken is very popular. I recommend the roast and veggies. If the have turkey and gravy it's good. I had Salisbury steak and gravy. Very tasty. They're desserts aren't usually that good. The carrot cake was good. I'm full by the end of my meal anyway The sweet tea was great. Service was wonderful. The only con is there is always a sour smell at the right side of the restaurant. Like sour carpet. It's bad when the majority of the food you get is cold or tasteless and when you ask for a refund management wants to argue with you. How about you go make a duplicate plate then get with me. Absolutely disgusting. Cup had lip stick print on it even though I used a straw. Someone I know got a desert bowl and there was straight up food in it, and when they picked up another, same thing. Service was fast and workers were kinda nice, but the ambience of the restaurant was like the backrooms, overall it's was disgusting, with literal dirt in most of the bowls. Food was also horrible, and the only thing that looked half decent to me was macaroni, and it tasted like if you ate the plastic on the outside of those cheddar squares. Not the cheddar. Amazing food for a great price! This place was well staffed, well kept, and well stocked! All the food was constantly rotated and checked for temperature, insuring that you always had fresh hot food. The employees were so sweet and willing to help with anything. The restaurant was packed and it was so clean you wouldn't know it was packed! There was always plenty of clean plates and silverware. I go to the GC in Gastonia, NC. They make the absolute best egg omelette I have had including those at 3x the price or more. Keke, the cook, is the best. Great staff. If you don't believe me, go there one time and you will be completely convinced. Then try finding a better omelette anywhere in the Charlotte area and you will fail. Great job GC! read more

First of all, $60 for three people for a subpar half cooked experience is not worth it. The pizza tasted like it came straight from a freezer. Drinks tasted very off. Waitress was very quick with how often she refilled drinks. Restaurant feels like it's still stuck in the early 2000's, some lights were just bare filament sticking out. I've eaten at this Golden Coral pretty regularly since they opened several years ago. I figured it was time to leave a review. Now, I'm not a "try it all" sorta buffet patron. I zero in on those things I like and tend to stick with it. So, no, I haven't tried everything they have. But I have had quite a bit. The short version of this review is "If you like buffets, then you're going to like the Gastonia Golden Corral on E. Franklin Blvd." My staples are the popcorn shrimp, who's breading is heavy, but not so much that you're not exactly sure whether there was a shrimp in that bite or not. As mentioned in another review, the pot roast is really good. The fried chicken is always crispy and the seasoning is just the way I like it. The meat loaf is also very good. Let's not forget the grill, where you will get a steak cooked pretty close to the way you like it. Now, let me remind you. You're in a buffet restaurant, not a steakhouse, so don't judge with your steakhouse glasses on. :) I like my steaks medium rare and the cook is happy to show you the cut before serving so you can choose. When I choose to get steak, I'm always happy with how it tastes. The Bourbon Chicken never fails to call me back for seconds. As for sides, I suppose all the usuals are present. All are good with the exception of one. The collard greens are just terrible. Now, it's their recipe, not an off night or disgruntled cook. For me, collard greens need to be cooked in fatback with perhaps a pepper or two in there for some bite. Then cooked long and low. No where, did I make mention of sugar. The collard greens here have sugar in the recipe. I've tried them on three occasions just to see if it was a bad night in the kitchen or not. They were as bad the second time as the first. The third time was accidental. They just look so good! I forgot. But yes, they were just as bad again. But if you like sugar in your collards then Bon Apetite! I don't spend a lot of time at the salad bar, but my wife does. She's never commented to me about how awful anything was. Everything I've ever had from there has been crisp and fresh. So I'll say it again. If you like buffets, then I think you'll like this one. I give it 4 stars because I am a fan of this Golden Corral. I used to love my local Miami Golden Corral. Since moving to NC, I have noticed that each location I visit is completely different than another one. Kind of surprising that there is so little consistency. I visited this location with a coworker who had been there before. She was attracted by the 7.99 lunch price and the salad bar. She had water with her meal, and didn't leave a tip, so her total was less than 8.50 with tax. Seems a little pricey for a salad bar, but she enjoyed it. Because I ordered a soda, and left a 2.00 tip, my lunch was nearly 13.00! I skipped the salad, and went for the hot food. Maybe it's me, but I had to walk up and down a couple of times before I could find anything appetizing to try. The veggies were overcooked, the fried foods were greasy, and the pot roast was dry. The fried chicken was good, OK; it was really good. Other than that, there wasn't anything else to point to as being worth the price (or effort). read more

My hubby and I have eaten at Golden Corral for years. It feels like we've been to tons of them between southern California to Florida, and now here in Gastonia. This one in Gastonia was very busy and crowded...nothing unusual, there. Actually, if they WEREN'T busy and crowded, I'd think something was wrong with the food. Lol. The staff stayed busy cleaning tables, sweeping up food and trash from the carpeting, mopping up spills, refilling food buffet areas, bringing out clean dishes and silverware, getting things for customers (like high chairs, replacement silverware, etc,) and still smiling and being helpful and polite. It did seem that the staffing could be a little better since sometimes a server would be doing two or three things at once, and not always able to refill a drink or clean an empty table right away. For this, I don't blame the servers one bit as not even one of them was just standing around, doing nothing. Instead, it's the Manager's responsibility to make sure there's adequate staffing instead of simply having servers do the work of two or three people...something that Golden Corral, in general, sadly seems to be 'famous' for. (This is one chain I would not work for!) The food was the usual fare that this chain provides, and was good at this location. Hot food was hot, cold food was cold, and the salad fixings were fresh. Empty buffet trays were replaced with fresh trays in a timely manner, and even the dressings, sauces, sour cream and butter/margarine were kept filled. Loved the flavor of the New England Clam Chowder even though it was more 'milky' than 'creamy'. (What can I say...I'm a spoiled New Englander. Lol). The Broccoli/cheese soup was very good! Sadly, the chocolate and caramel fountains were just as 'thinned out' as in other GC places that we've been to. (sigh) I know...it's expensive. The meatloaf, itself, was great but a bit overpowered by all the ketchup on top of it. I scraped off most of it and still had a good 'ketchup' taste. (I have this hope that someday GC everywhere will start using gravy on the meatloaf or at least cut the ketchup quantity in half.) I loved the tuna salad...tasted fresh and had no relish or pickles in it. Just chunk light tuna and mayo to which I added some scallions, diced hard cooked egg, jalapenos, black olives and cut up tomatoes. YUMMM! (Plus a bit more mayo which it definitely needed after I got done with it.) I love fried chicken but theirs was a bit overdone and dry so I passed on it. The Sweet Potato Casserole with mini marshmallows was delicious, the baked potato was just okay, and the instant mashed potatoes were fine...especially since it's kind of hard to screw instant potatoes up! The veggies were the usual...nothing special to write home about since half of them come from cans anyway and nothing extra is done to them. (I do love the canned carrots, though. Guess I've developed a taste for them. Lol.) The canned collard greens are cut up but were a bit tough and a little bitter...should have been seasoned with some ham, bacon, salt pork or smoked pork hocks. Anything to give it some flavor! The brussel sprouts, broccolli and cauliflower had to be cut with a knife. Very chewy. Maybe they're healthier this way but I, for one, don't like them hard. Even HALF cooked would be an improvement IMO. The Pot Roast in gravy was tender, seasoned just right, and wonderful. This pan emptied fast, too! While I love seafood, the battered shrimp was just a little too 'battered' for my liking so I took most of the batter off of each shrimp before eating them...still tasted good! The broiled white fish was pretty good, and the salmon was great. I loved the Mac 'N Cheese as usual. (Hey, not everything that comes from a can tastes bad.)...and it tasted even better once grated cheese was put on top! Yummm. While I didn't get any food cooked specifically for me, like steak, other people seemed happy with what they were receiving. The Prime Rib piece that the Carver cut off for my hubby wasn't a slice but a chunk...very tough to eat and not enjoyable at all. My husband tried to eat it but gave up after a few tries. True, he could have gone up with another clean plate and requested a real slice this time but he just didn't want the hassle of waiting...requesting...and maybe even then not getting what he wanted. All in all, if you've eaten at one Golden Corral, you've eaten at all of them. The selection stays pretty uniform, and you know ahead of time that the food will be decent, no matter what state you're in. There's really no surprises with them...including this one in Gastonia. The only thing that seems to change is the price which is up to about $20 per person, here. (Hint: The Passion Grill in Gastonia...another buffet you might want to look at.) read more

Well the food was good. Kept their buffet well stocked and fresh. They also made the transition from breakfast to lunch very well, even though we only ate breakfast. Waitress was not friendly and let our coffee time after time get cold. We always had to ask to get a refill. We had finished our plates and she stacked them on the table and just left them there. All while we were eating dessert. So service was a real downer. Their desserts were incredible. Never thought I'd say that about GC. I gave it 2 stars because I'm high on service. Went to eat today with my friends and my nephew got sick. When i told the one server she whispered under her breath thinking I didn't hear it "really I gotta come into this crap". As if it was a problem that a child got sick. We informed another server that the one server was rude and she decided to stand over by the drink machine and talking crap about us and pointing at us with the other servers. They'll stood there making rude comments about us at our table. However the man who had to clean up the mess I will say was extremely nice. I feel horrible that he had to do that but we can't help if a child gets sick. But he was the nicest out of them all. But we definitely won't be going back. read more

My wife and I went for Valentine's day 4:30 in the afternoon. We have been there a few times for the special prime rib. But Friday we went for the Valentine's day special and just about everything was dried out with no taste. The prime rib was way overdone the fried Chicken was way overdone. Even the meatloaf was dry. Pork chops were like cardboard. We noticed the last couple times we want it's been going downhill well I think this put the icing on the cake won't be going back there for a long time hopefully they'll straighten it out very disappointing for a Valentine's day dinner. Even some of desserts were not up to par bread pudding was terrible. And the place could be a little cleaner by the way the manager's door office was open and it is just disgusting in there.
