So they have remodeled this place up years ago and it has UPGRADED! It's owned by a mother daughter duo who are amazing! They are so welcoming when you're there. The change in paint color really livened the place up. They added bright new tropical decorations which I loved! They added a tropical moral in back that is a great spot to take a picture at. Not to mention the door they added! You have to see it! Now they cut their menu down which was an awesome idea. They have healthy alternatives to Caribbean/Puerto Rican food. Really fresh, delicious food and such kind workers! While we were dining, a guy using a power wheelchair arrived by himself and ordered coffee. He had limited use of his upper extremities, and the staff went out of their way to place a straw in his coffee and help him get his fingers around the cup. This place was just ok. We tried this after restaurant after seeing it featured on ChrisDoloEats' IG page. We came on a random Wednesday around noon. Despite there being a few tables open, we would told there would be a 20 minute wait. I'm assuming this was due to low staffing. Once we got seated we immediately ordered 2 coquito lattes (one hot , one iced) and both were pretty good. Enough to order 2 more. We also ordered the steak jibarito with arroz con gandules and the Caribbean chicken skillet. The jibarito was lacking that garlic flavor we were expecting. The meat was dry. The plantains were fried perfectly though. If I hadn't read that it came with chipotle mayo, I would've never known. The flavor wasn't there. The rice portion was very small especially for a Puerto Rican place where you usually get a mountain of rice with any meal. The skillet was underwhelming. The flavor was good but the chicken was rubbery. If you've ever had chicken breast grilled at Mariano's you know what I'm talking about. Overall I think it was missing some type of sauce. I had an impromptu birthday breakfast at Caribella. It was a weekday around 10am. I'm often in the area and have driven by a million times. We ordered a simple breakfast combo and a Monte Cristo. Both were ok, but not particularly good. I also tried the guava pancakes. Again solid, but not as good as they sound. To their credit, it's clear their pancakes are made from scratch instead of a box mix. A lot of restaurants used the Golden Malted mix as a base and fine tune from there. I'm good either way when executed properly. These have good texture, but lacked the buttery flavor I expect in a good pancake. My first time having a Coquito Latte and I'm hooked. Yummy! I ordered the egg and cheese sandwich on Ciabatta. The Ciabatta bread was great. It was buttery with a little bit of crisp and not really thick as most Ciabatta. I order the sándwich with eggs (however you like the eggs), tomatoes, onion, lettuce and with your choice of cheese. I chose scrambled eggs mozzarella cheese, added avocado, no onion. It comes with a side of fries or their house potatoes. I chose house potatoes. The sandwich itself was delicious! I loved it. The egg was nicely cooked, the ingredients on that crispy buttery ciabatta was a perfect Melody. The potatoes were good, they were actually not bland and seasoned with a little salt. In 2015, I went to Cafe Bella, which was Caribella before the most recent change. Everything from the service to the food were outstanding and I was at a loss for words when the restaurant had closed. Come to find out that they were renovating and changing their menu. The menu is a little more compressed than before. The winner is that you can get breakfast all day. Given breakfast spots in Chicago close by 2:00 or 3:00 and if you're a late person, Caribella works perfect for your breakfast craving. I ordered pancakes topped with strawberries, grapes, and coconut. When restaurants say their pancakes are fluffy and they're not, they need to come to Caribella to see how they're done correctly. These were not heavy and that made them that more enjoyable. I had a side of eggs scrambled with cheddar and some of their sausage links. Now, the food didn't come to the table 5 minutes after I ordered, and that is an indication that they're not microwaving anything or serving up pre-cooked food. I'm happy with that. My new vice is their coquito. While their version doesn't have alcohol in it, it's still the best Puerto Rican eggnog outside of Puerto Rico. And if you get dessert, make it the flan with chocolate cake crust. Just simply the best. read more

I was craving some pancakes and coffee on a Saturday afternoon, so this place seemed ideal. My waitress had positive things to say about the coquito latte, so I ordered this coffee drink. The coquito coffee tasted great and I would get it again in the future. The banana pancakes I ordered as my main meal were pretty good as well. The menu said that the syrup was rum flavored, but it just tasted like regular high quality maple syrup to me. My overall experience here was good, but one thing I wish they would add to their menu is "combos". Many independently owned restaurants I've been to allow you the opportunity to order a partial order of specialty pancakes and get protein (eggs and breakfast meat) on the side for one set price . You can do this with their regular pancakes, but I wish it were an option with their specialty ones. read more

I wish I could give Caribella more stars. I've been here twice so far and couple things on the menu are extraordinary. Their Caribella skillet with plantains is sooooo good. I was initially skeptical about plantains but they are really crispy, not at all oily and a refreshing change from potato hash. Also, I see everyone raving about their coquito latte and it is indeed worth the hype. Perfectly sweet, hint of coconut and a delightful cold morning beverage. Now coming to the reason behind the lower rating. As you can appreciate from the pictures. There was a huge discrepancy in the shape and size of chicken strips in my chicken and waffles from both visits. The first time it was delicious and perfect but the second time the strips were rather narrow and dry. As if they almost ran out of chicken and had to somehow make it work that day. Very dissapointing. Even then I still give Caribella 3 stars because of the delicious skillet and latte. Service was great and if you check-in on yelp, it can get you a free muffin for dessert. Free parking is easy to find :) I don't recommend using their Yelp waitlist because it was incorrect and we had to wait an additional 30 minutes in addition to what was quoted. Once we were sat, we were greeted by our waitress pretty quickly, however it took about 20 minutes for us to receive water. I ordered the chai tea, and it was just okay as well. To the food! I ordered the chicken and waffles, definitely a favorite of mine that I get anytime I see it at a brunch spot -- at $14, I expected a good meal. Unfortunately, after waiting an hour for the food to come out (not an exaggeration), I was very disappointed. It was DQ style chicken tenders...and plain waffles. Nothing special about it. After Sunday service at Church in the Square (Logan square) friends and I were trying to decide where to have brunch. This feat can be such a taxing decision when everyone has different tastes but thankfully these friends aren't just anyone. Someone threw out the idea of Caribbean and we were all on board. Though due to having a toddler needing a feeding we decided on a takeout order. Looking over the menu there were a number of tasty sounding island inspired options. I quickly decided on the Caribella skillet which is a hash of diced plantains, tomatoes, cheese, avocado, peppers, onions, smoked turkey sausage and two eggs your way. I decided on overeasy. The others fell in pretty quickly and our order was set in motion. With every brunch sit-down I can't help but have a serving of the sweet and the savory. So, more than likely I will always convince my company that something sweet must be shared... heheheh. My friend happens to be preggo at the moment, so she said I was speaking her mind. We decided on the specialty Guava pancakes. Which contained guava in the batter, guava syrup and fresh sliced guava pieces. Back at their home we'd started off with a gentleman's pour of scotch to inspire our hungers. By the time the food arrived we were all so hungry we'd opted to eat straight out of the styrofoam containers. Thoughts? Decent food, though the portion sizes could have been bigger. We imagined the portions are smaller since it is take-out. Another drawback which is more important than portion size was that the skillets could have used more seasoning and salt/pepper. Since we ate at my friend's place he brought out a few condiments he thought would upgrade the brunch entrees. He had hit the Caribbean isle recently and brought back some fruity hot sauce. That and a Boar's head chipotle gourmaise. With a few drops of sauce, this elevated the flavors of the Caribella hash.. The guava pancakes were a tasty sweet option. Properly soft with a lightly sweet guava sauce and few pieces of guava. For the cost I think more fresh guava could have been offered. Last thoughts? It was a solid 3.5 star brunch. Was anything memorably Caribbean, I don't think so. Would I return for another go? Perhaps for a random visit but not without my own hot sauce or TJ's Green dragon. read more

I visited Caribella yesterday with my family. The food really didn't do much for me. The coquito french toast and guava french toast were one of the only dishes that tasted decent (no syrup needed). The coquito latte had good flavor but was just too sweet for my liking. The Caribella skillet, Plantain frittata and steak skillet were okay they didn't have much flavor. We also ordered sorullitos which were alright. The dip was way better than the actual sorullos. Customer service goes a long way in my book and I feel like they need to work more on that. The waitress reviewed our order, repeated it to us and when we received the (not quite hot) food there were ingredients missing. Not to mention we had to wait about 15-20min when we arrived before we even received water for our table. I wanted to like this place. It is overpriced for what you receive. We just moved to Logan and while we are familiar with the big spots, we are pleasantly surprised to find all the wonderful smaller spots! Caribella was amazing from service to food. Super easy to order, fast prep, easy curbside pick up. I had the steak sandwich with chipotle aioli on ciabatta bread, it was awesome! Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Onions were nicely grilled. I had the rice for a side, it was incredible! Perfectly cooked such great at flavor. Definitely would Order again. Went today at 2/3 for a pickup. They do not let costumer inside, u have to knock for them to open and then I informed them I had a pick up and I waited outside for my food. Carribean Chicken: I didn't try it (I'm a vegetarian) but I was told the seasoning was great but the chicken was a little too thin. Guava French toast: A hit!!! I was so excited to try this and I was not disappointed. They really give you your money's worth, it was so much French toast. My friend and I ordered it to share, and we couldn't finish it after our other meals. So we saved it for later and it was just as good the second time! The syrup is so delicious and the French toast isn't eggy which I enjoyed. It's sweet (the syrup) but yet feels healthy because of the slices of fresh food. Would definitely order this again!
