I feel mislead and cheated ordered 3 carnitas burritos with chicharron. They might as well called them rice burritos..I didn't taste any carnitas and maybe a couple of tiny pieces of chicharron. I suppose there might have been beans but I didn't taste them. What a scam this is not the Carla's that I use to buy authentic well prepared Mexican food.Shame on you..for forty dollars I could have had a decent steak or rib dinner. All three people who ate with me agreed that it just doesn't have any taste. The salsa can only do so much but still did not help. I saw the panaderia sign on my way to fro-yo...Carla's Bakery turned out to be a Mexicatessen and panaderia crammed with drinks (coffee, tea, freshly made Mexican drinks in huge glass jars), fresh salsa, fresh tortillas, breakfast items, tamales, pinatas, phone cards, Mexican candy, menudo on weekends, enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, tacos, tortas, Mexican sweet breads, muffins, cakes, and more. The al pastor was cooked on a vertical spit with pineapple on the top and bottom (looked really good). They had many types of tacos including lengua/tongue, cabeza/head, carnitas, chicken, al pastor, etc. The atmosphere was authentic - no inside seating, cheap chairs on the outside, Mexican music blaring, and primarily Mexican customers. I had two small soft tacos ($1.25 each). The cabeza had a strong beefy flavor, the meat looked stringy but was soft and tender. It was placed in two small, warm, chewy corn tortillas and topped with chopped onions, cilantro, and hot salsa. Pretty nice. The al pastor was extremely tender and flavorful, slightly sweet. The tacos were accompanied by radish slices and a lemon wedge. They didn't have a salsa bar. I also tried a muffin that was plain (sugar, butter, flour, water I'm guessing) but nice - not too sweet, almost like a corn muffin, not too dense. I come here at least once a week. Contrary to its name, its more than just a bakery. It is a full restaurant with seating inside. I usually grab and go since I have limited lunch break. I can't believe I got beaten to a panaderia review again. Like the other times, it's not just a panaderia -- it has entrees, too. In the case of Carla's, it's a rather full set, plus they have a case of other items like Mexican juice drinks and pudding and gelatin cups. It's clean, but continues the panaderia trend I don't find hygienic enough -- tongs and plastic trays with no sort of disposable plastic to act as a buffer from the tray. I'd gotten a block of chocolate cake that had no frosting on top but a thin infusion almost at the bottom, and a chocolate chip cookie. If you're used to panaderias, you'll know that this means a plain cookie with chocolate chips on top instead of baked inside. I'm not a fan of some of the panaderia baking choices in general, but Carla's really doesn't go along the "dry and hard" line you tend to find, or at least doesn't go there nearly as much as most panaderias. The cookie was surprisingly chewy, but only about halfway between one you'd find at a normal panaderia and one at something like a Mrs. Field's. The cake was soft, moist, and delicious. I want to take some of the cupcake makers I've found so far here, and tell them that this is what the bottom of their cupcakes is supposed to taste like. For now, though, I'll just look to test things like the empanadas. read more

This place is a hidden gem when it comes to great tasting Mexican food!! It's a great place if your just looking for great tasting food at a very affordable price. The food is plentiful and very tasty!! A family of four could easily eat for $20 and have room for desert. Food arrived about 12 mins after we ordered it. Heard about this place years ago and finally made it here. Man what a hidden gem this place is. It's a Total Mexican Spot. It definitely reminds me on something you would find in Mexico. The first time I came here I had the Molcajete and it was awesome. It's a lot of food and could easily feed 2 people. The Molcajete and from the looks of it all of the baked goods are awesome. I tried the carne asada plate and it wasn't that good. It looks like they cook there meat ahead of time and then heat it up to order which leaves it dry and pretty flavorless. The place is clean and the staff are friendly. I think there are some real winners on the menu that I'd like to try in the future. Since taking a job in Moorpark I've spent many of lunch breaks looking for what I will eventually refer to as my "go to" spots. Carla's Bakery was actually one of the first places I tried after being invited by an old friend who lives in the area. I can actually say that Carla's Bakery is my first official "go to." This was my first time going in after pan on my own and frankly I left very happy, the women that had helped ring up my order made me feel so welcomed that I definitely plan on being back just for her service I didn't catch her name but we sure struck up a convo with stepping out of our comfort zone to get something we wanted. No longer just a panaderia, more like a mexicatessan. Its now has lots of inside seating since they took over the space next door. Came in with a couple of people to watch the Mosley fight. Ordered the chile relleno plate. Plate is big...two big chile rellenos, rice, beans, and tortillas. I split this with one person which made it a perfect size meal. The rellenos are good, not the best I've had but would definitely order again. o Large menu as well with the standard mexican fare: burritos, tacos, quesadillas, etc. Menudo on the weekends. No pozole on the menu, but asking someone they said they do have it. Will have to check that out on a weekend visit. Horrible customer service. Called ahead of time the girl who worked there picked up and was barely able to give me my correct order back to me. Lady hanged up on me after I asked when my order would be ready. I go on my lunch break to pick up my order they get my order wrong. The woman chief has horrible customer service and arrogance. She basically said she did my order right and I'm wrong. I drove back to my work to get my order and after coming back they made a new breakfast burrito for me and said it was a mix up and the cashier apologized while the chief kept her mouth shut.
