Being from San Diego, we know good Mexican food and margaritas -- so I'll admit, I was a little hesitant. But wow, Carlita's delivered! We sat on the rooftop soaking up the sunshine and city views while sipping margaritas (which were on point). We started with the queso -- different than what I'm used to, but absolutely delicious. The chips? Next level. They're dusted with this salty magic that had me saying, gimme more! I ordered the short rib taco and the short rib tostada -- both were flavorful, tender, and just downright yummy. I literally told my husband, "Let's come back tomorrow." In a city where we haven't found many great food spots, Carlita's was such a win. Highly recommend and definitely returning.

Ambiance yes. Yes. Yes. Deck over looking city. Yes. Foods ok. It's not like amazing. Tacos are great quality, but the tortilla is well, store bought thin and lacking for 7$ Great chips, good virgin margaritas. But foods just a weee bit lacking. But I'll go back just for the deck.

Love this place! Currently sitting in the garden room which is my favorite for the ambiance. Greg is the best bartender and Jeff and Conor always take great care of me and my guests!

Top left - churros, front center - flan, top right - brownie

Given that Carlita's is one of perhaps only 3 rooftop options in the super picturesque Willamette Valley, I felt like we had to try it even though the reviews are all over the place. On a Sunday night (of Labor Day weekend) it was pretty busy. We came after dinner to have drinks and dessert as a group of 6. We were surprised to be sat quite quickly, at a table between windows to no view to really speak of. It would have been nice to be able to check out the view. We were not served quickly and fully understand the strains of being under staffed and busy. Our server made a point multiple times of explaining this but it didn't really save any face. We ordered drinks and one serving of each dessert - a brownie, flan and churros. The flan was the best and that was still not amazing. The servings were generous so I will give them credit for that, but the flan was falling apart, the churros were over cooked and the brownie was the most dense thing I've ever had. Overall, pretty disappointed. I can't give the place 1 star, it really has location over all and they're trying, being short staffed isn't the remaining staff's fault. But I don't think I will return.

I love The Gordon and appreciate the convenience of Carlito's on the rooftop. I REALLY wanted to love their food, too. I ordered the ceviche and chips as my meal and appreciated the high ratio of tuna to vegetables in the dish. I didn't even mind that the dish was a little small because it the helping of tuna was generous. What I didn't like was that the chunks--I'm using that word intentionally--of tuna were so poorly cut, of various sizes, and tissue often remained between pieces. This made putting a mouthful on a chip pretty difficult, which resulted in my dropping a lot and eventually using a fork. I realize this sounds like a "champagne problem" --oh my, a fork?!--but details matter. In fairness, I must note that I did enjoy the flavor, which is why it earned three stars. Overall, the dish was amateurish but it could be turned around with minimal effort.

Great food and margaritas! The Carlita's skillet is a must have. Super great to have a rooftop place in Eugene too. Pretty sunset views in the summer!

This place is great for some outdoor Summertime rooftop dining in Eugene. We stopped by for a light dinner on our last night in Eugene. The weather was perfect and the shade umbrellas on the rooftop deck were perfect for the heat. My daughter and I shared a bottle of the blackberry margarita and my wife had a passionfruit mocktail margarita. The blackberry margarita was very refreshing. We shared the chips and guac which came with a large amount of guac (bonus!), and shared some tacos and the elote. My daughter had the Walla Walla Pappas Tostada and I had the Chicken Mole Tostada. My only suggestion is that the tostadas were on the dry side and needed some more mole or mole on the side. Overall we had a great server named Laurie and a fun time. I recommend Carlita's for a Summer's afternoon aperitif or dinner with a view!

The rooftop bar was a delight in the early evening in Spring with the sun shining. There are about 15 tables or so total, not many and not too loud. We were there a couple minutes before the end of Happy Hour (6pm) but she took our orders and charged Happy Hour price. The margaritas were humhum- not great, not awful, just not very flavorful and a bit sweet. Not much alcohol in them, pretty weak and lots of rock ice so very little "drink". It came with chips and salsa when ordering drinks at Happy Hour. I liked the chips, good combo of salt and peppery, and a touch of sweet. The salsa was bland and uninspiring. I had a carnita taco and a mole chicken taco. Those are the Small sized street taco size. Unfortunately it only is served on one instead of two tortillas so it falls apart easily. Carnitas were well flavored, chicken was bland. Supposed to have pickled onions and apple... well, not on my taco. Disappointed. We also had the skillet with chips, kind of a bean-yellow cheese- spread dip like dish which was horrible: smell and taste of smoke overwhelming and cumin tasting. Just plain awful! So, yes I will come by for some weak drinks during a nice day on the patio, but I will not return just for the food.

Room with a view...really not a bad seat in the place

The Skybar is located on the 5th floor of the building along with the Hotel lobby... uh okay. The staff are all very pleasant and accommodating. We went to the SkyBar and found it to be a smallish yet convenient place to wait for guests or visitors along with getting a drink or a bite to eat. The bar looks like it can accommodate about 30 people in the interior. There is a nice outdoor patio that can easily accommodate more when the weather is nice. The barkeeper was very attentive and observant, he took our food and drink requests at the bar and in short order, everything was presented. I had a Moscow Mule that I found to be a refreshing drink. Ginger beer, lime and vodka. An excellent combination. I also had an order of the chicken wings and fries. The fries were a normal shoestring variety, cooked well, nicely salted and came in a metal bowl. The wings I found to be outstanding! I don't usually get wings this well made unless I do it myself. I received 8 wings coated with barbecue sauce on a charcuterie board with the fries. The wings were served nicely hot. The meat was piping hot, juicy and tender. The barbecue coating was a hearty middle of the road sauce, not sweet or too smoky. It was caramelized perfectly for that sticky texture and flavor. Definitely a nice coating. Thankfully the bartender brought us a lot of napkins. The wings and fries made for a satisfying meal. The bar boasts a couple of gas fireplaces that make for a warming environment with a few semi private tables. There is a longer table for a larger group as well as several smaller tables and a few bar stools for game watching. All in all we found the bar to be a cozy semi-private environment, yet available to the guests as they come and go. All around, a nice meeting area and watering hole. We will book our family members for a stay here at the hotel. I'm looking forward to trying more of their specialty drinks.

The environment is lively, mostly because Taro is personable and we were able to see him create beautiful sushi dishes live while hearing him engage with the customers seated around him. It was actually really fun listening to his stories, and seeing how he is passionate about the food he makes. He was excited about the uni and was talking about how the fish he orders is from Spain and how he really wanted to order another great cut of fish. The food was delicious, even down to the house sodas they have. We ordered the summer margarita with fresh berries, lime soda, cold beet appetizer, veggie donburi, chef's choice spicy trio hand rolls, chocolate mochi blackberry cake - and at the end Taro gave us 2 nigiri on the house. The house lime soda - usually soda is nothing to blink an eye at, but the lime flavor was fresh and just the right amount of sweetness. We were surprised by how good it was. The summer margarita was a delight, the alcohol and fresh summer flavors balanced perfectly so that neither overpowered the other. The beet appetizer was fun to try. Beets can sometimes be too earthy/muddy in flavor, but the nutty dressing paired with the salty, crunchy puffed chip paired well with the soft bites of beet. The veggie donburi bowl was much bigger than expected, and everything on it was good. The tempura tofu was well executed - silken tofu encased in a thin/crispy layer that tasted light and not greasy. The overall flavor of the bowl is akin to teriyaki, but less sweet and more of a deep umami and more smoky flavor. The handrolls had a good amount of fish to rice/topping ratio. The wasabi actually has some real wasabi in it, and the pickled ginger and soy sauce made every bite flavorful. Very filling. The fish were all fresh and tasted great. My partner who almost never eats meat couldn't resist and ate a piece of nigiri and loved it. The mochi chocolate cake was very unique and definitely worth trying. I find most chocolate cake too sweet with a generic cocoa powder flavor and too heavy. The texture of the cake is not too dense, but has a nice mochi bite to it while tasting a deep cacao flavor without it feeling too heavy. The sweet/richness is just right paired with bites of fresh blackberries. Honestly, may be the best dessert I've eaten so far this year. The interior is well decorated and pays homage to Akira the anime. The hostess who greeted us seemed stressed and it definitely showed on her face the whole night. But, our server was kind and attentive. Despite the handrolls taking ~20 mins to show up, the food was delicious and worth the wait. There is so much more to try on the menu.
