We live in Redding, which has lots of Mexican restaurants, but we drive to Red Bluff to Carlitos when we want good Mexican food. Lots of great items on the menu. The Carnitas pork is wonderful and the Tacos el Carbon and Chili Colorado are also very good. Their sauces are the best. Great salsa. read more

We live in Sequim, WA and good Mexican cuisine is hard to come by. On our way to CA we stopped in Red Bluff. I have gluten free requirements, so Mexican is usually safe and basic. Their menu is anything but "basic". I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and my husband had the "beef and chicken stew". OMG. We both were absolutely amazed with the quality of the food. I would not go as far as saying this place is authentic... Sure you get a lot of food but it wasn't really great. Comp chips and salsa - homemade but salsa very mild. The shredded chicken was actually seasoned and tasted of oregano etc. Supreme nachos were interesting. They put a lot of everything besides the chips. They need to put way more chips, since they are nachos. When you get them, all you see is chicken, cheese, beans and jalapenos etc. Chips that were under all the massive toppings had become soggy. Tamale was dry, not great. Nothing special just cheap, fast Mexican food. Probably will not return even with large portions.. La Corona is still the best, cheap and AMAZING authentic Mexican food in RB. read more

We ate here recently both on our way to and on our way back from Central CA. Chile Verde was excellent and camarones con arroz was even better. Ample margaritas that were just right in terms of balance and flavor. And the bill was abundantly reasonable. We'll go here anytime we spend the night nearby, no hesitation. read more

Drove down from Redding to give it a try based on the good reviews. Service was slow, took about 10 min to order, food took about 15. My plate and food was cold, wife said hers was good. There was a $3 upcharge on the bill to swap meat to carnitas in one taco, wish they would have told us that when we ordered. Total of bill was $37.50 for two basic meals and a beer and iced tea. Really some of the best Mexican food I've had. The (all-important) burrito is a solid 8.5/9.0. I0 going to Taqueria El Farolito in the Mission district of San Francisco. Flavor-wise, excellent balance of spices, although I'd like more cilantro. Portions are generous. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu--I visit my mother in Red Bluff, and we always go here at least once. Oh, and EXCELLENT service, which I generally don't care about. read more

Food was just okay except Burrito Lujo which was good. Margarita not very good. Bathrooms are a little run down and leave a bit to be desired in cleanliness, but not a disaster. Service was slow and not attentive, though we did come just fifteen minutes before closing so it might be better at other times. Atmosphere is a bit depressed, especially outside the restaurant. I probably wouldn't come back unless I just HAD to have Mexican and everything else was closed. read more

Pretty good restaurant. We got three different burritos--carnitas, "healthy" and Carlitos. All tasted good although way too much cream on the Carlitos that ended up staying on the plate. Also one wrap, which wasn't wrapped well, but otherwise OK. Chips they brought out at the beginning were nice and toasty warm, but the salsa was underwhelming. Service was just okay--friendly, slightly pushy about drinks, slightly disorganized (they don't seem to be sure who has which table) and a bit slow given the light traffic. I'd give 3.5 stars if I could but I'll round it down because the other reviews seem way too positive! read more

Stopped here on our monthly trip up to Oregon after reading the reviews. This was a great find. Huge menu and the food was really good. The best tamale I've had outside of Oaxaca. My husband had the bacon wrapped shrimp fajitas and said they were delicious. Super friendly people working there. We'll make this a regular stop on our trips to see the kids. read more

Absolutely delicious. I came here based on yelp reviews and I'm really glad I did! I had a very tasty strawberry margarita and the Cazuela Mexicana, based on the server's recommendation. I wasn't familiar with the dish, and I now wish I saw it on more menus because it was so yummy. Meat was cooked perfectly, flavor was vibrant....I didn't want to leave any and was stuffed because I ate too many of the chips (also quite good) before the meal came! Carlitos in Red Bluff has the best Micheladas and the food is ok but the Corning one is BAD and the host whatever his name is has no personality at all. You want good food and drinks go down to Los Costeños down the street in front of US Bank, now that place is delicious and everyone is super friendly. read more

If you want great service and reliably delicious food, Carlitos is your best bet in Red Bluff. So many Mexican restaurants are indiscernible from eachother. But these guys serve distinctive meals that are prepared with a light hand on the oil bottle. Never greasy! Their menu is interesting and diverse. I love the special selections they've made especially for vegetarians. But what always gets me, is EVERY TIME I come here, I am treated like a celebrity. Just passing through town and wanted a Mexican food fix. This place is close to our hotel and had good yelp reviews. Ordered takeout at the cashier desk. Had combinations with cheese enchiladas, chicken burritos, and beef tacos. Service was quick and pleasant. Food was hot and wrapped to travel with napkins and plastic ware and bag of chips with terrific salsa. Food was great. Very flavorful. Fluffy rice and tender beans. This is our second visit to Carlito's. The service and ambience are great! In fact I was very impressed with the teamwork approach; seamless. Everyone was charming. The food is outstanding. I had a chile verde tostado that was great altho I had to order guacamole on the side (I think it should be included in a tostado, but what do I know?). Hubby had the chile verde ginormous burrito and enjoyed it tremendously. Lovely tortilla chips and salsa to start with. You can't ask for more.
