Stopped by on our way through for vacation. Cave Junction seems like a nice quiet town. We chose Carlos because it was close to were we parked our RV and dog. Good choice on our part. We were there about 2:30 in the afternoon. Service was fast. Seated immediately. Chips and salsa served immediately. I had a margarita and it was very yummy. Good balance of tequila and mixer. We each had different items. Everyone LOVED what they chose. We had enchilada, tamale, quesadilla, taco and burrito. So much goodness! Filled up the teenagers and husband. Total win on our part. Food tastes like a rusty pan, rice looks as if it was scrapped from previous dinners plates, wait staff, That day had no respect for personal space or it's some sort of sick game to see how many times the can " brush" against someone in the utmost inappropriate way they can. A group of elderly people dressed to the nines took over the bar here last night. The gentlemen had white suits and cowboy boots and grins; the ladies had long sparkling dresses and sweet smiles. It was nice. I come here for drinks sometimes to catch up with friends when I'm in town, but don't eat here because the chips are cooked in lard. Ewwwwwww. A totally decent place for me, and a great watering hole and stand-by kitchen for a lot of people who live here. *Bonus is the gregarious host/waiter/etc with that sexy-shmoozy-charm. read more

WOW, a surprise. We headed over to Carlo's Restaurante based on the yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. We ordered a couple of kids meals, which were fair. However, the flautas and enchiladas were wonderful. To add to the meal, the beans and chips & salsa were AWESOME. I don't eat beans, and was talked into trying them (again) and I found that the refried beans here were smooth and silky and cheesy delicious. I actually ate them, and so did my kids. We went through at least 5 baskets of chips and 6 bowls of salsa. Yum! Also definitely order the plain ol' margarita. It was fresh and smooth and a lovely pairing with the food. After visiting Oregon Caves Nat'l Monument we were looking for a late lunch in the tiny town of Cave Junction. We asked a guy at a gas station and he said he had never been to Carlos but he had heard it was good. I was pleasantly surprised. Extensive menu, clean, good service, prompt service and excellent food and generous portions. After one visit I highly recommend it. I expect to return soon if possible. If I have the same experience I'll rate it 5 stars. I have eaten in Mexican restaurants all across the west and southwest and this is one of the very best. read more

We stopped in here last Monday night for dinner. Absolutely fantastic in every way. The menu was extensive, the servers were attentive and friendly, the decor and ambiance were fitting, the portions were huge, the prices were reasonable, and the food was fantastic. I ordered the Carne al Pastor and Rebecca ordered the Chile Colorado and a margarita. She said her drink was perfect and both are dishes were excellent. Only gets two stars since we did t get food poisoning. However, we might not have eaten enough to get sick. The Machaca was inedible and inauthentic. It was some gross wad of regular beef and scrambled eggs, and I ate two bites before having some of the rice and beans and calling it dinner. The carnitas tasted slightly rancid. Stopped here on advice of two locals. Service was absolutely awesome. Above and beyond, my three teens loved our server. My middle daughter's birthday was yesterday, and upon discovering this while teasing her about paying, brought the hat, sang and did the picture thing. So very sweet. The food was excellent as well, pretty standard but very flavorful. Definitely worth it, especially in a town with not tons of choices. You won't leave hungry or unsatisfied. We were staying in the area and went to Carlos twice. We had excellent service both nights. So excellent in fact that we decided to go there on the second night just so we could talk to the staff again. We also had our fair share of daiquiris. The best are blackberry!! Looked up reviews for this place and was impressed with what I saw so the family and I decided to try it out. We were NOT disappointed!! They were very polite and the atmosphere was wonderful! They were prompt with our orders and were great with my kids. The food was fantastic!! I have not one complaint about this place. As a first time guest here I would recommend this place to anyone! One of our favorite local dinner spots! ...only complaint is that they are always crowded, so we get our food to go most of the time. Our favorite is the carne asada burrito or the beef banderillas (shish kebobs with cheesy, mushroom rice). Great margaritas too! read more

I was genuinely impressed with the quality of food, quantity of food, and the exceptional service. Our orders included the nachos, fajita salad, and Rancheros (shrimp, veggies, rice, beans, and tortillas). All meals were yummy. The veggies in the Shrimp Rancheros were red bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms. It would have been nice to have a different assortment of veggies - especially something green such as zucchini. This is the only Mexican food in Cave Junction. I ate there and had the house burrito. The food was good. The chips and salsa were good. My dad had the fajitas which smelled amazing. The service was not great. I had a margarita which I swear had NO alcohol in it. When I finished my drink which was before our dinner came, I was NEVER offered anything else to drink....then at the end of my meal I found part of a bright green rubber band in my salsa and to top it off a long dark black hair. I think this is the best Mexican food in the Rogue Valley. I have always had good food here. Very authentic. I love the spicy salsa.

Mediocre Mexican We needed a dinner restaurant in little Cave Junction and there aren't a lot of options. We ended at the place in town that seemed the busiest. Lots of waiters were rushing around and they don't spend a lot of time at any table--sort of drive-by service. I got a house Margarita and was disappointed. It was weak and watery and almost tasted like a mix. I can't imagine that they would use a mix, but it certainly tasted like one. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. My wife had the veggie stir-fry with some added chicken. There was absolutely no seasoning on the vegetables. I had a garlic shrimp dish. Fortunately, it had lots of garlic but the accompanying veggies were bland. So, it was kind of hit-or-miss. I found no reason to go again. read more

My wife and I stopped in Cave Junction for a relaxing lunch on August 19. We were on our way from Gold Beach, Oregon where we had celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary to Ashland to enjoy some theater. Carlos served up really fine and authentic food graciously served and reasonably priced. In my working life I spent quite a bit of time in México, and my wife and I have traveled there often. Our meals really had the "old country " touch. Yes, it is a bit of a gamble to recommend a place on the basis of our two lunches, but in this case it is a gamble I am willing to take. The food here is ok. I eat a lot of Mexican food and there is really nothing here to rave about. They give you unlimited chips ands salsa. The margaritas are so so. They do offer a limited veg menu.
