Carlos and his uncle did a great job with my floors. I ripped out a wall to wall carpet and found old oak floors underneath. The two of them where able to remove all the nails, sand out the scratches, and replace the few broken floor boards, stain the wood, and make my floors look better than new for a fraction of the price. I say better than new because the end job looked great and I prefer the character of a restored floor to that of a new one. It will be slightly different but for me its nicer. I would highly recommend them, especially for older townhouses. read more

I had a 30x18 red oak hardwood floor installed by a local contractor (NOT Carlos). He had done tile work for me and I judged his work to be excellent. He installed the floor using nails only (no glue) and it looked fine before sanding. I realized after his initial sanding that there was "chatter" throughout the floor. He re-sanded it with very little improvement, but proceeded to apply the water based polyurethane promising it would look better, but it didn't. After waiting a few months, I called CARLOS and told him about my problem. He came to see the floor and immediately said he could repair the damage in 2 days for a reasonable price. A few weeks later, he did an excellent job on my floor. I can tell by how he works that he takes pride in his work and likes what he does. He worked carefully and very cleanly, vacuuming even in places he hadn't'worked in. He covered all doorways and closets and there was no dust whatsover by the time he finished the job. I would highly recommend him for any work involving wood floors! My floor is now beautiful! read more

His prices were the most reasonable of any people I spoke with, and he was willing to whitewash my old-school NYC parquet floors--something other entities said they couldn't do. He provided professional cost estimates as well as all other documentation the building needed like the certificate of insurance. He could have been more communicative on how long certain parts of the project would take (like drying time), but was generally great. We needed to sand and refinish our wood floors desperatley, but seeing as our season opener was only a few weeks away I was skeptical we would get it done in time. Carlos ensured quality and all in a timely manner and we were able to schedule it at a time that worked for me. Another major issue we have dealt with in the past has been sloppy edges by the molding as well as obvious markings from moving the grand pianos around during the refinishing process. We did not need to worry about any of it with Carlos and his team. Our floors look remarkable there is no noticable differences from where the pianos were moved during the refinishing process and I did not need to micromanage the team to get things done right. Carlos did a fantastic job! Very happy with the work, and yes I will recommend him to close friends! Carlos refinished and stained my entire apartment in Murray Hill (kitchen, living room, bedroom). The price was VERY REASONABLE on a square footage basis! He did work himself (along with an assistant) and you could see the pride in the excellent job he did. The color and finish are perfect and he fixed all the 'problem areas' I pointed out to him! Carlos moved my furniture carefully from room to room and covered with plastic during work, all cabinets were totally covered, and he protected the baseboards from stain or damage. He even installed 3 baseboards that had been removed during construction job. Afterwards, he did a good job vacuuming up all the dust. Other companies normally send a salesman to meet you, then you get an entirely different crew doing the work. Don't make that mistake. Use Carlos first! read more

I'd like to recommend Carlos Salazar for his expert floor repair and refinishing. The street level of my brownstone was very beat up after 15 years since installation - wear and tear plus different areas of water damage, including a discolored and warped floor from a tenant's broken A/C. I did my homework, got 4 estimates and chose Carlos because he laid out several options depending on the condition of the floors after a first sanding. It turned out that they just needed sanding and some minor repairs with wood filler but as part of his price, he had offered to replace boards if needed. No exaggeration ... these are the best floors I've seen. I found Carlos on Brownstoner. I booked him because of his bio. It was thoughtful and intelligent. I hoped for the best and got very lucky! I live in a Historically landmarked Brownstone in Park Slope. It has 1-foot square parquet floors- over 100 years old. A couple of my neighbours had their floors finished. I hated the low quality, sterile-looking results and workmanship. I wanted mine done, too, but didn't want those results. I wanted floors with character. As an experienced and serious DIYer, I decided to do my own floors to save money. I rented several sanders (4); they always broke down. I finally hurt my back trying to lift the (60lb) machine into our car... and had to seek someone reasonably priced to finish. Not only did Carlos do an excellent job... he actually cost much me less (per square foot) than renting the equipment and doing it myself. All I can say is Carlos works magic on your floors! We thought we would have to tear up our over hundred year old floors. Every other contractor tried to push us in that direction probably to make more money. Carlos came in and said he could make our floors look brand new and he was soooo right! They look awesome and we got to keep the original floors in our limestone home which obviously gives it more value. Working with him was a breath of fresh air. He was honest, clean, and efficient. I thought there would be dust everywhere but the place was clean. Very minimal dust if any. His prices also can't be beat! When I tell friends what I pay they get upset because they say they paid double or triple the amount and work wasn't even half as good as what he did in our home. I contacted Carlos based on all the rave reviews he got here, however, I did not have the same experience. I called him a week ago, he was reluctant to come in person to give an estimate and told me to measure the floors and he will give me the price on the phone, and unless the floors are damaged, the price wont' change. Odd, but ok, I measured a living room, dining room, hallway, and 3 bedrooms, however there were some dark spots in the rooms from a pet problem so when I spoke with Carlos about it, he said he would come by on Wed. But then he texted me that he had an emergency could he come on Thurs? Sure no problem, but when I tried to confirm with him on Thursday he said he was going to be working late and wouldn't be able to come. I was very annoyed because I waited a week on this guy and then he kept cancelling. I guess he doesn't need the business, it is not cool to put people off like that, just say that you are too busy right now. Sorry Carlos, you lose. read more

Was really excited to hire Carlos based on all the great reviews. Called for consult, scheduled for him to come at a specific time; called AM that day to reconfirm and he cancelled on me. Rescheduled for a few days later. He sends his uncle instead - uncle clearly couldn't be bothered - wasn't even in the house for 5 minutes. First he tried to convince me that a heavily damaged portion of floor (like, floorboards completely cracked & broken) could just be sanded, no repair needed, and didn't even bother to take measurements in the room that needed full floor replacement. How can he provide any estimate on floor replacement if he doesn't know how much floor he's replacing? I called Carols 2 days later to ask if estimate was coming - he said yes, Friday. It's been a week. No reply whatsoever. So I've wasted hours of my own time and weeks waiting on this guy and have zero to show for it. I understand if you're busy - fine - just say you can't take any more business right now - but don't waste my time. So frustrated and disappointed. Am sure the folks below who have good reviews got great service from him - but that just means they managed to actually get him in their house. read more
