On a road trip from Houston to Van Horn, I was looking for a dinner spot where I could grab some food from the drive through and continue on my way. As I was getting hungry, I saw a sign for Carl's Jr. on the highway and proceeded to turn my right blinker on. Ambiance (3/5): It's a fast food restaurant. You're not going there for the ambiance and I didn't dine in. I ordered through the drive through. Pretty much what you would expect. Service (4/5): I placed my order, paid, and the cashier asked me to pull up a little past the drive through and he would bring my food to me. It came out in the timeframe I would expect. The only hiccup? No napkins or ketchup in the bag. Drinks (3/5): Your usual assortment of soft drinks. I went with a sweet tea. Food (3/5): We all have our power rankings when it comes to fast food. For me, I'm a little ambivalent about Carl's Jr. It's about in the middle for me. I do like their commercials though. This time around, I went with the chargrilled chicken sandwich (swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and mayo) combo with waffle fries. The waffle fries are an upcharge and are only available in a medium size, not large. I'll take waffle fries over regular fries any day of the week, even for a small upcharge. The chicken wasn't bad. It was charred nicely. The bacon was a little limp, but overall, it did the job. I enjoyed the waffle fries the best. They were fresh. They had not been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time which is always a risk at a fast food joint. While traveling we stopped for lunch. We don't have a Carl's Jr close to home so when we see one we get happy. We both had western bacon cheeseburgers which were delicious just like we remembered. The people who work here are lazy, rude and incompetent. The person taking our order was extremely rude and seemed annoyed at us for being there. They then told us to pull up to the corner to wait for our food to get out even though there were no cars behind us. We waited around 20 minutes for our food and they ended up giving our food to the wrong car. The person in the other car had to pull up to our car to hand us our food. There's no rhyme or reason to this place. The employees seem confused what's going on and almost too shy to communicate with customers. My husband got the California classic burger and we were given a kids burger, probably from the family in front of us. Not even the right sandwich, but didn't taste horrible. I got the Big Carl because it looked so good. It was just super bland, and the bread was VERY stale, but at least the right sandwich. Our third sandwich to split was the hand breaded chicken sandwich, which the chicken was super juicy & delicious, I must admit, but it had one measly pickle and about a pennys worth of Mayo. It was super dry and anticlimactic. The fries were good. Nuggets were hot & tasty too. Soda machine was out of ice but it's connected to Loves so you could always walk over and get ice, just inconvenient. In conclusion, fries & nugs are safe. This was the nastiest place I've eaten at. I ordered 2- #11 that was suppose to be a bacon Swiss chicken sandwich. Got a dried chicken patty that had NO bacon on it. Took both the chicken sandwiches back to the counter and was told they where remade correctly. Sat back down at the table and they had only remade 1 of them correctly. I took the 2nd sandwich back up to the counter and asked for the bacon to be added on it again. I would've been embarrassed as a manager or employee of a customer had to come back twice to have their food remade. The fries where nasty and cold. Wow. Just wow. We just backpacked out of Big Bend and were quite hungry. I saw they were offering $5 box meals with enough food to feed at least 2-3 people; of course, I had to get that. In my box there was a double cheeseburger, a chicken sandwich, fries, a cookie, and a drink. The food quality was slightly above a McDonald dollar menu and the price was comparable. Visited Carl's Jr. in Fort Stockton on my way back from Mexico, needless to say it was a great visit. The restaurant was busy upon arrival around 3pm on a Sunday, our food was made to order and the Famous Star burger was pretty good, better than McDonald's and Burger King burgers, the spicy waffle fries were a plus. The employees were friendly, food was great for a hamburger chain and restaurant was clean. Will recommend my nearest Carl's Jr., till next time. I haven't been to carls jr in years. Passing through I needed gas and was hungry. I should've got the gas station food. I go to the counter and the girl stares at me o_0. I order the teriyaki burger. Not sure if it was stepped on and the pineapple tasted old, the burger patty was about 1/4 thin, I seen bologna thicker than this patty. The fries tasted like they been sitting for a while. Leaving the place about 30 mins later I felt sick to my stomach. Some of the lettuce I pulled off because it looked old. If you stop here to get gas, don't eat here. The restaurant itself is attached to a gas station, which should have been red flag #1. The moment we walked in it honestly smelled like old laundry. I ordered the all natural burger to get the healthiest thing possible. Not only could I not hold onto the burger because the buns slide right off, but it also had a fishy smell to it and tasted just like any of the other cheaper burgers. Also, out of the 5 people I was with, only one person enjoyed his fries (he got the natural fries). They were soggy and tasted awful.
