A mouse nest in my car
    Erin M.

I had, without a doubt, the most insane experience with this Carmax. I almost never post negative reviews, but it's been messing up my life since I got my car from them back in Oct. In fact, I'm posting this everywhere bc it's so absurd. So first of all I want to say the person that actually sold the car was cool. His name was Vivek. We're leaving him out of this. Buckle up, this is long. So I got a Kia back in Oct. When I first got it, we all noted a strange smell. We decided to get it re-detailed that night and bring it home the next day. WE LET THEM KNOW ABOUT THE SMELL. So we picked it up and there was a ton of air freshener that they'd bombed it with. But when we got home, we realized the smell persisted. My fiance decided he'd try to figure out where it was coming from. So he went in the trunk, popped off one of the little panels covering the tail light, which was super easy, you dont need tools to do it or anything. And what did he find? MOUSE NESTS. WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF MOUSE PEE AND FECES. (Pictured) I need you to understand that mouse waste can lead to hantavirus, which can KILL YOU. Clearly, we took the car back and let them know what was up. Now, we only had one car at the time, and after 4 days of Carmax still working on our car, because apparently they had to order a whole new trunk, since it was SO SOAKED WITH MOUSE PISS, we asked if we could have a loaner. Enter Mitch. So my fiance calls and asks VERY POLITELY if we could possibly have a loaner car until my car was fixed, since we were spending money on Uber. Mitch was super rude and shut it down. Said no way. So my fiance then called a higher up who said it would be no problem whatsoever and gave us a loaner. So Mitch was...just being an a-hole I guess? It takes a week to get our car back. But then! A couple months later? The AC dies. In hot Virginia. So we take it in. They say it's fixed. No a couple months later, it dies again. We take it in. They say its fixed. Guess what? Its wild, a month later IT DIES AGAIN. So finally we take it to one of their contracted garages. They say that Carmax didnt even check the line for a leak. They work some magic on it and tell us when it dies again to show Carmax the bill. But it was $400 up front. Im disabled and my partner works at a non profit, $400 is a lot. It could've been used for food, or gas, or bills, but no, it has to be stuck in limbo until the AC dies again bc for whatever reason Carmax can't fix the AC. Or find a very obvious mouse nest. Or do anything, apparently. PS we are paying for MaxCare, which covers non routine car services. So we're also wasting more money. We thought MaxCare would take care of issues, but instead its just wasting our time and cash. Don't go here, my entire experience has been so absurd it's laughable. I'm out of money and out of patience because of them.

I was surprised how straightforward it was for me to sell my car here! I first went in for an appraisal and they were pretty quick with the evaluation. Scheduling the appraisal was quick and easy online. When I was ready to sell, I just walked in with my offer and the staff took care of everything for me. They were pretty clear with their instructions and staff were all super friendly and respectful. When you first walk in it might be a little overwhelming cause the facility is big but there is someone at the front desk to orient you. To the right, there is also a small waiting area with some chairs, basic drinks, TV, and bathrooms. While there was a pretty limited selection of drinks I appreciated how clean the area was kept. Only thing is that some of their instructions were a little outdated (ie for me the instructions to inform the DMV etc were not the right contacts).

I'm sorry that some had a bad experience. As far as me, it was seamless buying a car from CarMax in Richmond. My car was delivered from another CarMax. I was able to track the car entire time. When I got to call to go take for a test drive. After seeing the car I didn't even take for a test drive. The car was absolutely spotless. I purchased a 2017 Volvo S90. You expect some flaws in a 2017 right!? No flaws at ALL. CarMax even put 4 brand new tires. No cheap tires. High performance tires. It was the best car buying experience of my Life! Oh yeah, my state inspection was already done and I had hard tags already on car!

I had a terrific experience buying a used Toyota RAV4 at Grace Auto Sales this week. When I chose the less expensive model of the two cars I was considering, Soto never tried to convince me to buy the pricier model. He agreed that the one I chose seemed to be the right fit. Soto and all of his colleagues were pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere was laid back yet efficient. It's very important to me to support local businesses and a bonus when the business is family-owned. It's refreshing to be in the presence of folks who seem to enjoy their jobs and one another. I will update this review if anything goes wrong with the car. Otherwise, assume I'm a happy customer. NOTE: I suggested to the owner that he consider doing away with the scented candle that was burning in the front office. I made the point that while the candle smelled nice enough, many folks (myself included) are very sensitive to fragrances (as evidenced by the booming market of fragrance-free products). The owner received my feedback good-naturedly enough, but left the candle burning as he walked away. Meanwhile, I had to excuse myself, go out to the car and take an antihistamine, before I could return inside to complete the transaction because multiple chemical sensitivity is a real thing and those of us who have it spend extra time and money to avoid being overwhelmed by the off-gassing of scented products and services. I wonder how many folks complain about not having a scented candle burning when they shop for cars. ;-)

Perhaps it was a bit messy because it was the end of the day. We arrived for a 6 pm appointment, and it was so busy that the Tesla agent, Trey, couldn't get to us for 30 minutes. He was incredibly helpful! I had heard before visiting that the service is quick, but perhaps because it was the end of the month, it was busier than usual. Once the agent arrived, after approximately a 30-minute wait, the service was quick and smooth! They did exactly what they said, and we left the dealership satisfied with our experience. I hope the service request will be faster and more efficient for our customers. By the way, the auto-buying process is simple because Tesla agents do not make commissions on selling cars, so they are not pushy or annoying.  I wouldn't recommend picking up a vehicle in the evenings, as the agents are usually tired and running out of energy.  Tesla cars are mostly reasonably priced and considered to be of excellent quality. They are the new iPhones of the automobile industry. I hope to return to this Tesla again someday soon!

Don't pay a non-refundable fee based on what you're told. Learn from my mistake. I visited the Tesla dealership in Richmond to compare the Model Y base and Model Y Premium. The salesperson showed me the financing offers on the app and website and repeatedly assured me that with a credit score above 720, I would qualify for 0.99% APR on the Premium model. Based on those assurances and being told rates could increase after June, I paid the non-refundable reservation fee and applied. Tesla's own documents show my credit score is 736, and my income is more than sufficient, yet I was offered nearly 11% APR. After multiple calls and transfers between departments, I was simply told that financing depends on more than just credit score. If that's the case, why wasn't that explained before I was encouraged to pay a non-refundable fee based on repeated promises that I would qualify for 0.99%? Even the Sales Manager in Richmond only said, "I'm sorry if that's what happened, but I've never received a complaint like this from my team." This has been, by far, the worst car-buying experience I've ever had. I expected transparency and honesty, but instead I made a financial commitment based on terms that were repeatedly presented and assured, only to receive something completely different.

My rating is based on the overall customer experience at Richmond Ford West. When I walked into the service reception area, it took quite a while before anyone acknowledged me. I understand that some employees were busy helping customers or on the phone, but there were others who weren't occupied. Even a simple "Hi, we'll be with you shortly" would have made a big difference. Instead, I was left standing there feeling unsure of where to go or if anyone knew I was waiting. I had an appointment to have two tires replaced, and the tires were already in stock, so I expected the service to take about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Instead, I waited nearly 3 hours. Delays can happen, but better communication would have gone a long way. A quick update or an estimated completion time would have helped manage expectations. I understand that businesses can be short-staffed, and I know those situations aren't always within the employees' control. However, when staffing is limited, hospitality and communication become even more important. A warm greeting, acknowledging customers, and providing updates throughout the process can make a huge difference in the overall experience. Those small interactions help customers feel valued, even when wait times are longer than expected. Overall, the work on my vehicle was good, but the customer service and communication throughout the visit didn't match the level of service I was expecting to get from a premium dealership. I hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future customers.

I went in knowing I most likely wanted the CX-5 because I had previously test driven it but I also wanted to test drive the CX-30 because it was a little smaller but still technically a compact crossover SUV. I text drove the 30 and did not like it at all so I asked to test drive a CX-5. By the time I was in the car trying to adjust the salesman was helping someone else. I never realized that the car had a heads up display. It was totally fine that he was helping someone else but I felt like and this is overall the style of selling was very "we'll let the car speak for itself "... very laid back. I would've liked a little more passion and education about all of the features. I should also mention that because of COVID they aren't allowed to ride with you so that's probably why he was helping someone else. After I test drove that car I also asked to drive another year and I was putt off by the salesman's response that made me feel like he was bothered by that. The finance man was older made me feel pressured to add insurance. I get that they're all like this in the industry but it was something else that negatively impacted my car buying experience. Review of the Service Department…read more I'll start with the one positive: the pricing for factory-recommended maintenance services was lower than what I've seen at Flow Charlottesville. Unfortunately, that was the only aspect of my experience that stood out favorably. Customers should pay close attention to any additional services recommended beyond the manufacturer's scheduled maintenance intervals. I would strongly encourage anyone visiting this service department to review their vehicle's factory maintenance schedule beforehand and carefully evaluate any suggested add-ons. During my visit, I was presented with approximately $1,000 in additional recommended services and repairs. While some items may have had merit, several appeared significantly overpriced. For example, I was quoted roughly $800 for tires. After doing some comparison shopping, I was able to purchase and install name-brand tires from another reputable local shop for approximately $430. One recommendation that particularly raised concerns was the replacement of a battery tray. I was quoted $187 for the repair and told that the condition could cause the vehicle to fail Virginia state inspection. After researching Virginia inspection requirements, I was unable to find any specific guideline indicating that a loose battery tray alone would automatically result in a failed inspection. While inspection interpretations can vary depending on the circumstances, the explanation provided felt questionable and came across more as a sales tactic than a clear safety concern. My overall impression was that the service department places a strong emphasis on upselling additional repairs and services. As with any dealership service department, I recommend reviewing all recommendations carefully, obtaining a second opinion when appropriate, and comparing prices before authorizing non-routine work.

I told front desk that Acura fixed it temporarily and am hesitant to reopen that engine oil jar again next day. so told Abbott's, we will look at it during next oil change or if starts leaking again. I should not have treated as friendly neighborhood service shop. That was my mistake. ------------------------ Previous reply of yours is your understanding of the recent situation, but I want to be entirely clear: this was never about money, nor did I ever ask for a refund. My concern has always been about receiving basic respect, proper service, and professional conduct. To clarify the timeline of events: August 5th-6th (First Vehicle): I dropped off my first car on the 5th. Although I never received a call with an estimate, I paid for the DRL service over the phone without question when told it was ready on the 6th. When I picked it up after hours, I immediately noticed incomplete assembly work on the fender--including missing screws and plugs--without even needing to bend down (photo attached). August 6th-7th ( Refund Mistake & Escalation): I dropped off my second car on the 6th. When I returned on August 7th to pick it up, I paid for that car. Once it is completed, I showed the photo of the botched assembly on the first vehicle. Instead of listening or handling the matter professionally, the front desk employee became aggressive immediately, mechanic joined to his rant, and ordered me out of the office simply for asking questions about work I paid for. If you have a front desk video take a look. To make matters worse, the amount your shop later returned was actually for the second vehicle--which was less than what I paid for the DRL service on the first car--proving the refund wasn't even for the service in question and highlighting the sheer arrogance and negligence of your team. As a paying customer, I will not tolerate that level of hostility and entitlement--especially over an error as simple as failing to reinstall screws and body plugs. At the time, I mistakenly assumed the front desk employee was the owner, which is why I tried to reason with him directly. If you saw how your staff behaves when leadership isn't around, you would realize how severely they damage your shop's reputation. To make matters worse, on August 10th--only after I posted my initial review--the front desk employee called to apologize and admitted his behavior on August 7th was wrong. I declined to speak with him further, only to see your response on Yelp shortly after. This sequence makes it glaringly obvious that your shop prioritizes online damage control over treating in-person customers with basic respect. Excuses I heard on that day. 1) My screws are dirty. 2) Repeated MECANIC ARGUED QUESTION: "ARE YOU OK IF I CHARGE YOU 120$ TO FIX THOSE SCREWS" YES OR NO. He asked me to answer YES OR NO answer only. what is your answer if you are in my shoes? I would like to hear that to understand what your answer would be as customer/business owner? I will hear what your explanation also.
