After sitting for 10-15 minutes, one of the employees came out and gave us a lowball offer and told us they couldn't appraise it because it was dark outside and we needed to bring it back in the daylight. I asked him if he had somewhere he could pull it inside to look at it then, and he told me no because they were closed, even though it was 7 pm and they didn't close until 8. I purchased a Jeep Compass 2017 last year in September. Today my car is not working correctly, needs a transfer case and differential and I purchased the extended warranty. I took it to the Hyman Brother's service in which they told me I had to take it to the Jeep Dealership. It took me a month to get into their service. Jeep told me the problems, they contacted my extended warranty and they stated that I had to take back to Hyman brothers in order to get it fixed and they would cover it. This is so ridiculous! I have never in my life purchased a car that took me through all of these issues! STAY AWAY!! I bought a vehicle from this company in May 2021. And as I recall, dealerships should have full inspections done on their vehicles prior to releasing them for sale on the floor, this clearly was NOT done with my vehicle. I sat down with their then General Manager and signed paperwork and chose what I was told and explained to as the "highest level of coverage" on my service warranty to assure if anything did happen, I would be covered. I even specifically asked if the radio etc would be covered with that, I was told yes. I was refused any kind of help, told by their service manager twice that it wasn't their fault my car was messed up and even then by their GM they would see me in court. Their entire staff is unprofessional and liars! The way the entire company handled this is by far the worst experience I've ever had in my life and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I bought a brand new vehicle from this dealership trusting it was in functioning order, signed a warranty I was told would cover anything and added an additional 3k on top of my payment, but spent Thanksgiving in the middle of a parking lot with my vehicle calling SOS in a loop for 3 hours and then when later trying to get in my car the alarm sounding even though it was unlocked. these things have happened twice now, the first one being shortly after purchase when I was refused any help from their service manager and the same person who sold me the car. If the care was inspected properly before selling this would have been noted and fixed. I shouldn't have to drive off a lot thinking I got a fully functioning vehicle only to find out I don't. I can't get into my car without an alarm sounding, SOS calling in a loop, I cant cut on my radio or use ANY functions on my display, and cant start my car at any given time with the keys in my hand without my car saying key fob not found. I came in to get my 2019 Jetta appraised and the manager was supposed to come out and look at it, drive it, whatever. All the things a dealership would typically do. I stood outside for about 5 minutes and a salesman came out and gave me the offer from the manager without anyone even looking at it. It was a lowball offer and it was pretty irritating that the manager didn't even take the time of day to get off his ass and look at my car (which was in great condition with low mileage). A decent car at a fair price, but they did not live up to their promise of the delivery date for the title of my car. It took 19 days to receive the title and DMV check they told me would arrive 9 days prior. I gather that only one person can perform this duty, and was out with a medical illness while no one filled in for him/her. I got a ticket because I live in an area requiring residential parking passes which I cannot get on a car with Virginia tag and no existing title. The dealership did agree to reimburse me for this ticket, but it has been an inconvenience and worry for me, as well as a time waster. Also, when I went to test drive the car, "RC" did not want me to try the car on a highway or above 35 miles an hour, as he directed me on a very short loop around the dealership on city roads only. BEWARE! LEGAL ACTION MAY BE REQUIRED IF YOU DEAL HERE! This is a long one, but please, stick with it and learn about this deceitful dealer. TL;DR is near the end if you must, but please realize you may be spending a considerable amount of money here - educate yourself! Where to begin... Using the internet, I located a car that fit exactly what I was looking for. I emailed Hyman Brothers via USAA / Truecar inquiring about the car and Rick Bradley called me the next day. We discussed the car and Rick asked if I'd like to leave a deposit on it to reserve it - "You don't want someone to buy it out from under you!" Uh, no, I'll be there tomorrow. Whatever. When I arrived the next day, I was greeted by Rick who advised me that in the haste to get the car ready for me, someone in the shop had let the wiper arm go while they were replacing the wiper blades and the arm hit the windshield, spider cracking it. They had the windshield on order and expected it later that day. Rick put the convertible top down and away we went for a short test drive. I signed the deal. We agreed that I'd pick the car up on Saturday, which would give them time to replace the windshield, buff out a few scratches and wash it. I actually like the "No Haggle" business model that Hyman Brothers uses at the West Broad Street location (not sure if other locations do it or not). Basically they price the vehicle a little below its Kelly Blue Book value and they stick with it. The only thing left to negotiate is for the value of your trade-in if you have one. Saturday arrives and I drive the 90 miles or so to Richmond to pick up the car. My friend that is buying my trade-in meets me there to drive it away. With the encouragement of my friend and Rick, I drop the top and drive the car home. I am happy. Not to remain so... When I got home, I parked it in the garage and attended to other matters. The next day, I discovered that an option that was listed on the website (related to the convertible top) was not in fact actually on the car. This is not an inconsequential option, from the factory it lists for $2500! It directly impacted the KBB value of the car, decreasing it by about $1250. I immediately double checked the webpage and sure enough, the option was listed. The very first thing Monday morning, I called Rick and was referred to Bill Thomas and Steve Sommers. To shorten this already long story, suffice it to say that I received no satisfaction from either of these two men when I explained that an advertised feature was actually not on the vehicle. For three days they essentially ignored my email and phone messages, responding briefly occasionally but never addressing the problem. After the fact, I was not able to find the webpage on their site and then the dealer denied that the option was ever listed! They said they were not responsible for 3rd party websites and refused to talk about USAA / True car deal that I had printed out and sent them. When I pointed out that I had an actual print out of their webpage both from the Google cache and direct from their site, they then changed tack and pointed to a catch-all disclaimer on the bottom of their webpage that says something to the effect that "Any and all differences to be addressed prior to the sale of the vehicle." In short, they were saying that it doesn't matter what they advertise, you are responsible for verification prior to leaving the dealership! What happens if you buy a car that lists the optional 1.4 Liter engine only to have your mechanic tell you later, no, you've got the standard 1.2 Liter engine. Too bad! It's your fault! You didn't verify that before you left! When I stated that I intended to return the car under the terms of their 3 day / 150 mile guarantee, they refused saying that the clock started running NOT when I picked the car up, but 3 days earlier when I signed the paperwork. In other words, my 3 day period was effectively over when I picked the car up! TL;DR WARNING: This dealer may advertise that a car includes options on their website. The car may or may not have all of the options listed and if you don't realize before you leave that the option is not on the vehicle, TOUGH. Even if they quite obviously hide the presence (or lack of) the option, they will claim that THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ADVERTISING and you should have noticed before you left. Don't make the mistake that I did - stay away from these guys. read more

A couple weeks ago I went to Hyman Brothers West Broad with my mother, specifically to see a 2012 Ford Edge I found online. Everything started off fine. RC was your typical fast talking salesman but seemed very knowledgeable. He showed us the Edge and an Equinox that was there. I test drove both, but I really liked the Edge so we went in to talk about the numbers. I mentioned I wanted my boyfriend to see it before I made any decision and RC suggested we drive the Edge back to my house to show the bf while they were getting the financing together. He seemed to be moving fast, but it sounded like a good plan. So that's what we did. When we got back to the dealership RC immediately asked me for my insurance card to get the paperwork started but we still had a few questions, so we asked him to slow down a bit. This is where things started to get iffy. We simply asked him if they could do any better on the price, because we had seen a VERY similar car somewhere else that was about 2 grand less earlier, but it had been sold out from under me. He pretty much scoffed and implied we were dumb because we didn't know that they were a "one price dealership." He literally said he couldn't believe we didn't know that because it was ALL over the website and the dealership. A - I didn't even see the Hyman Bros. website because I found the car on Carfax. B - If there were signs or whatever around the dealership, then I didn't see them because he was talking so fast and trying to move the deal along so quickly. Then when my mom asked if he could just check with the manager, he said he was the manager. But then said he could get "someone" over here but that they would tell us the same thing. (Note: On his business card it says he's a Sales Associate, not a Manager.) And you know, that's fine. If you can't do any better on a price, I understand that. But don't make me feel stupid for asking and then lie about being the manager. At this point I felt like I really needed to sleep on it. I still wanted the car, but he was starting to get pushy and I don't like making decisions under pressure. But I went ahead and sat down with the Finance Manager, Wayne, and he was wonderful. He was kind and broke everything down for me. The payments were awesome and well below my means. And I was feeling good about buying the car. I still wanted to sleep on it but had every intention of coming back the next day. Then out of nowhere, RC comes into the office with a Carfax report for the car I had missed that was 2 grand less. He literally wasted his time to search for and print out a Carfax for a car that was at another dealership entirely which was also already sold, JUST so he could prove us wrong about the car being similar to the one I was about to buy. He needed to show us it wasn't a 1 owner car after all. I looked at the Carfax earlier in the day and I swear I thought it said it was a 1 owner car. But maybe I was wrong? I had been looking at dozens of different cars all day after all. But that is NO excuse to get argumentative with a customer who is almost ready to buy a car from you. Even Wayne told him that the car had been sold already so it really didn't matter. But he kept at it! I thanked them both and said I really needed to sleep on it and walked out with my mom. When we got in the car we both couldn't believe what just happened. I liked the car but was cringing about going back and dealing with RC. So, I decided I would look at a few more dealerships on Saturday instead. And if I didn't find anything I would try and go back to Hyman and ask to deal with someone else. And thank god I did. I found a newer Certified Pre-owned 2015 Edge with insanely low mileage at Richmond Ford at a really good deal that I just couldn't pass up, and the sales woman was freaking awesome. But I still can't believe that RC would sabotage a sale like that just to prove a customer wrong. Who does that? read more

Let me set the stage, I buy a decent car every 2-3 years and I've done this car shop/purchase many many times and these guys, well frankly they suck.... OK if you would like details, I went to look at car A the other day and was quite interested but car B grabbed my attention. I inquired about it and was pushed back toward my original car A. Well i decided to think on it, it was a big choice, and the next day I called and asked about looking at car B. I was then told that they 'don't drive showroom cars' (*which shouldn't be a shock as the older Rich/Rick salesman spent my test drive telling me how badly I was driving,... over and over... he kept harping on some fantastic class they went to and now he's an expert racing driver. Congrats... next time don't insult the person attempting TO GIVE YOU MONEY... anyway I ignored that nonsense as I saw a couple cars I might be into at the dealership. I called back and asked to see one of the B cars, they had 2, and I was told ... 'Why don't you give us a call when you make up your mind and are ready to buy something?' yes that's a quote from the old guy Rich/Rick,. and when I informed the mgr of his obviously errant behavior? well the mgr did say he'd get me another sales person to work with and apologized for the nonsense and he also clarified that they'd test drive anything they owned. Ok good enough eh? then i get a voicemail from the old guy salesman in this awful time stating how his mgr told him to invite me back out. Seriously? You insult my driving, insult the fact I want to shop around before dropping $50k, and then you have the nerve to put the same jerk on my account? Needless to say i didn't buy there, and gladly... I bought one at VIP Auto sales in Manassas, great friendly folks AND I was in and out in under twenty minutes... honest, there's no BS there ... as opposed to here.... and a note to the MGR and Rich/Rick ... The guy who came to talk initially seemed the most uninterested guy. Took the keys and went in. Didn't call me in the dealership even. Basic courtesy considering I had an infant with me. Then handed the key to a supposed appraiser and happily lounged on the couch. 15 mins passed by with no information on who is doing what. Upon asking I was told the manager is looking at the car and will give the appraisal. After about 25 mins, I was handed the appraisal sheet which was was less than carmax. Forget beating carmax, they were atleast 3k less than carmax. The claim to beat carmax is absolute bull. Wouldnt have minded if their appraisal was less - its the dealerships attitude towards customers. The trust factor comes into play on the condition of the unit being as represented (especially if you are traveling any distance). I didn't want to tell them I had already gotten my vehicle appraised, because I wanted their honest opinion. While I waited Ray and I looked over vehicles they had available and they didn't have the pickup-truck I wanted. They seem to deal more with luxurious and exotic cars. Their prices are haggle free, which is just a nice way to say no negotiation. Carmax should have patent that term. Ray seemed nice but what bothered me was that he acted like he knew more than me about the particular pickup truck I wanted and in an attempt to make himself look knowledgeable he was actually wrong. read more

STAY AWAY! My wife and I purchased a used luxury family van 2 years ago. We also purchased a $3,000 service warranty through Hyman. The warranty is not worth the paper it was written on although it was hyped to us by the sales person as "COVERING EVERYTHING from bumper to bumper". Every time I come in there for a repair of some kind that is covered, the warranty they sold me won't pay for diagnostic time or else they insurance will only PARTIALLY cover the repair because their mechanics took longer to fix than the warranty provides. I'm left haggling with the warranty company because Hyman won't haggle for me. But THEY are the ones who sold me the warranty. On a few occasions I have won by haggling directly with the warranty company only because I demanded the warranty company stick to their contractual agreement. This time around, our engine light went on and I was told that I would have to pay $110 right up front for the diagnosis because whatever was wrong, the "warranty company might to pay for it... and we don't wan't to go through what we went through last time (which was ME making the warranty company honor it's own contractual obligations". I'm a patient man and I have nothing but respect for mechanics and technicians... but this company (Hymans) only wants your money... not your return business. And their sales department completely MISREPRESENTED the value of the warranty at sale time to my wife and I. It would be cheaper for us to "write off" this bad warranty and take the van to a mechanic who is not associated with this dealership in any way. read more

I called the new Hyman Bros. Mitsubishi dealer that opened up on Midlothian Turnpike. I have a 2011 Lancer GTS that I wanted the CVT serviced, so I can have a record of the mileage for the county. When I called the service technician, the gentleman on the phone didn't even know what the CVT was. Then when another guy called back to get me the quote, he asked what engine I had. I said it was a GTS. 2009-2011 GTS have 2.4L in them, 2008s do not. I said it was a 2011 GTS. Why would the technician not know what engine comes in the cars they sell themselves? I know all of Mitsubishi's line up and engine size for almost all the cars, and I don't work there. Then I had told them I was providing the fluid. I was quoted $230! It has to be because I was a woman! I know exactly how to change the CVT. You drain it, then refill it. THAT'S IT! Why was I quoted that much!?!?! I'm not an idiot, I work on my own car. I am very disgusted by the lack of knowledge that staff showed as well as the man lying to me on the phone about what is involved in changing the CVT fluid. I will drive the extra 30 minutes and take my car to the Pearson Kia dealer that the old Pearson Mitsubishi dealer recommended to me. 12. TRANSMISSION FLUID CVT (CHANGE FLUID) Transmission fluid replacement 1.Remove the drain plug on the bottom of the transaxle case to drain the transmission fluid. Draining amount: Approximately 6.0 dm3 (6.3 qt) 2.Install the drain plug with a new gasket to the transaxle case, and tighten it to the specified torque. Tightening torque: 34 ± 2 Nm (25 ± 2 ft-lb) CAUTION If the transaxle case becomes full before filling 6.0 dm3 (6.3 qt) of transmission fluid, stop filling the transmission fluid. 3.Fill in the new transmission fluid through the filler tube. Filling amount: Approximately 6.0 dm3 (6.3 qt) Transmission fluid: DIA QUEEN CVTF-J1 4.Start up the engine and let it idle for 1 to 2 minutes. 5.Move the selector lever to every position, and then move it to the "P" or "N" range. 6.Stop the engine and perform the above steps 1 to 5 again. 7.Stop the engine, and discharge a small amount of transmission fluid to check for fouling. If fouling is found, repeat steps 1 to 5 until clean transmission fluid comes out. 8.Drive the vehicle until the transmission fluid is warmed up to the normal operating temperature 70 80°C (158 176°F), and check the transmission fluid level. It must be within the "HOT" area on the dipstick. NOTE: The "COLD" level is for reference only. Use the "HOT" level as the criteria. NOTE: Use M.U.T.-III. to measure the transmission fluid temperature. NOTE: When a certain amount of time is required to warm up the transmission fluid to the normal operating temperature 70 80°C (158 176°F), check the fluid level referring to the characteristics chart. 9.Adjust the transmission fluid level to the specified level. Refill the transmission fluid when the fluid level is low, and drain the transmission fluid through the drain plug when the fluid level is high. 10.Securely insert the dipstick into the filler tube. 11.TCM records the deterioration level of the transmission fluid. After replacing the transmission fluid wi th new one, use M.U.T.-III to reset the deterioration level recorded in TCM read more

The test drive went well, the salesman was cordial, although not as knowledgeable about cars as I would expect, but I hold high standards. You really should know what you expect me to pay for. I was not aware of the "no haggle" pricing until we were in the closing sales office. Their price on this used car was $2,000 over fair and average prices. I offered a fair price, and they came up with a story that they held their price on a car for 4 years to uphold their values. We walked out unceremoniously, and to their credit, they didn't chase after us to drop their price. We ended up buying an identical model car, that day, 8 miles away, with 5,000 less miles for $3,000 less than the "no haggle" price. 2 months later, the car we wanted is still on the lot, for $1,500 less than the original price. I researched my vehicle through the USAA car buying app and was linked up with this dealership because it had the best match as to what I wanted. The dealers where polite, the process didn't take long. So they got 2 stars for being fast, courteous, and even giving me a little more on my trade in when I haggled. The third star is for them being a USAA partner in the car buying program. Now for the bad... I was pressured into filling out a credit app even though I was pre-approved by USAA and my score was well over 800. I told the manager I changed my mind and didn't want to submit it because I didn't want to ping my credit with an inquiry. He promised they wouldn't. Well, they f****** did. Stuck with another hard inquiry for another year. When the salesman took the truck to fill it up with gas, it wasn't even filled up all the way. It was filled just enough for the needle to be on F. When I was filling out the paperwork, I was pressured about buying a warranty, even though I explained that I didn't want it. Several flyers came in the mail afterwards as well. I went to pick up the tags less than a month later and they didn't even remember me. :/ They also took thirty minutes to find them. Lucky for me, I wasn't going on there to buy a truck blindly. The outcome could have been worse. I'm just happy that I got what I wanted at a decent price and I won't have to buy a vehicle for a very long time. read more

I went to this dealership in hopes of finding myself a new car as my mother and father both have purchased a few vehicles from Hyman Brothers in the past few years. When I pulled onto the lot I noticed a 2008 Mustang GT white with blue and red stripes. I liked the look of the car and read the description about how the car was supercharged also which to me was a huge bonus but to my disbelief nobody walked out to help me. I had to go inside to ask for a salesman and Rick Cassady is who I got with the pushiest of all personalities. He grabbed the keys and acted like it was a chore to show me the vehicle telling me that it was a roush stage 1 vehicle which it was not and that the tick the car was making was no big deal which it wasn't but then I asked to test drive the car and again Rick acted like it was a big deal again. Once we got in the car for the test drive in a performance car I basically got yelled at for half throttling the car. I wanted to see if this was the next vehicle I wanted to purchase. We made a circle, a test drive that lasted 1 minute. Turned out onto west broad turned right on Parham and right back to Hyman. Then the salesman tried to push me into the car and when I said I needed time to think the words that came out of his mouth shocked me "We don't even know if you can afford this car" as if the appearance of someone tells you what they can afford. I am appalled at the service Mr.Cassady gave me at this location. If Rick "RC" comes to help you purchase a vehicle do not deal with him there are other salesman who outshine Rick 10 to 1. Rick took my number down and told me he would call and let me know what the mechanics were able to diagnose the vehicle with the ticking noise coming from the motor and I have yet to receive a call, by far the worst experience I have ever had with a car dealership. read more

They have nice vehicles and I went there bc I had specific vehicles I wanted to see and test drive. I was even ready to purchase today if I found what I was looking for.... With that in mind the customer service from the sales man was annoying and pushy! I was only allowed to test drive 1 vehicle... With that in mind, the sales rep came with me to drive (which not all dealerships do) and told me how to drive, which lane to be on, and how to stop and go! I felt like a teenager in driving class!! Here I am in my mid-30s taking driving lessons from a old man! I grew up in the country and I know how to drive on roads, dirt roads, side roads, etc... I wanted to test drive 2-3 to feel the difference in make and models bc I am a tactile person. The sales rep told me if I wanted to do that then to go over to CarMax and do it... What kind of a response is that? If it's not part of your service just say so, don't call out a company out like that or say negative things! Why can't people be professional?! And say it's not part of their service??!!?? I was only allowed to peek in through the window of all the different vehicles they provided which fit what I was looking for and the whole time the sales rep was talking too much about this and that (which I already had done my research on and knew) and did not listen to my requests or acknowledge my concerns. He said to me, "if you think like that you will never buy a car" wtf?! I am a highly educated person along with my family and to be degraded and pushed around with his strong opinions was distasteful and left me with bad feeling of not wanting to negotiate with the company and go through with buying from them altogether... I was patient and stayed composed but I remarked back my input (which I normally do not do) it was so upsetting. Perhaps I may have had a different experience with a different sales rep however first impression is very important... However, they do have nice vehicles to chose from and good price after all the purchase of the vehicle you want is what counts not the employees. But nowadays I want friendly service with loyalty and respect for their own bc after all humanity is what also counts in life. read more

I was considering buying long-distance to have the car shipped. I did my due diligence regarding the dealership, checking the reviews as well as complaints filed with the Attorney General's Office (all had been resolved to customer's satisfaction) and the Better Business Bureau (complaints about cars being misrepresented). (Be sure to look beyond the reviews posted on their website. They only post the 5-star reviews.) The sales person was nice as could be, full of promises and guarantees. When I saw the CarFax was 7 months old, I was a little leery. I asked for this guarantee in writing: "The car is accurately described on our website and all systems are in working order. If the car delivered is not the car we promised, we will pay for return shipping and refund your money." They would not agree to that guarantee, and so I did not buy the car from them. Yes, they said if I wasn't happy with the car that I could pay to have it returned and receive a refund. My sticking point was that they weren't willing to stand behind all of their verbal promises and the information on their website with a written promise to pay for return shipping if they were being deceitful in any way. In other words, they really had nothing to lose by delivering a less-than-what we-promised automobile. P.S. - After this review was posted, I received a phone call from the sales person verbally offering to pay for return shipping on the car if I wasn't happy with it. Still nothing in writing though. I haven't changed my mind about buying from the dealer. It just should not be this hard. read more

Very unprofessional, I don't like being lied to about what a car is actually worth. I did my homework on the car that I wanted and it was over priced by $2500 then you tell me it's already $3000 below market value. Don't waste you're time. read more

I bought a nice small car here for my daughter to use at college. Low mileage, off lease, auction car. No problems with the car or deal. Very old school sales guy, though, who knew the product but kept saying stuff like "I gotta a lady coming to look at this car this afternoon and I know she's gonna buy it". read more

Avoid using the service center after making your purchase. The service center was responsible for installing the new tires that I negotiated but provided the incorrect paperwork for the warranty that came with the tires. Luckily, I called the tire manufacturer BEFORE driving away and was able to learn about the "mistake" and ultimately received the correct paper. The service center offers every third oil change free of charge, but I now question whether the oil changes are actually completed: the service center also promises to top-off all fluids during each oil change and I have driven away afterwards to learn only days later that the(1st time) windshield wiper fluid, (2nd time) power steering fluid, (3rd time) brake fluid were not topped-off. At a minimum, they could have notified me that the fluid levels were too low to top-off and offered me the opportunity to purchase the fluids. No, their great idea of customer service is to allow your power steering and brake fluids to reach critically low levels and risk damage to your vehicle. I have since taken my business elsewhere and suggest you do the same. read more
