Found a car that I liked. Had them ship it in. After about two weeks they called and said it was ready to be bought. I went in to buy. Upon inspection I found a problem with the rear door being loose and previously removed. Eduardo said they would fix within the week and I could come back and buy. Find out today that instead of fixing the car they moved it to Roseville to be sold. That's shady. I have waited three weeks for the car to find out they moved it so they wouldn't have to fix it. I had decided it was time to sell my dream car, a beautiful aqua blue metallic 2010 Camaro...a car I loved and cherished but realized I needed to trade for something more practical...Last Sunday we met with Russ Maney who understood my emotional attachment to my Camaro. I received an amazing appraisal so went to look at Jeep SUV's. We came across a Jeep Latitude that I was interested in and made an appointment to come back Monday for a test drive. That Jeep was ok but not what I wanted...I advised Russ I needed to think about what I wanted. He encouraged me to do so and told me not to settle but to make sure I get what I want. Low and behold we go home, check Carmax website and find a 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude that was perfect! Well the Jeep Compass I bought in March 2017 was T-Boned and deemed a total loss so I had to get a replacement vehicle. Went in to buy a car and ended up deciding on a 09 bmw,i was approved and they told me to get insurance on the car and pick up the next day. I payed 300 dollars to get insurance. They had me running around for 4 days getting all the paperwork they "needed" that i had already submitted. And everytime i went in it was a new person helping me. In the end they had the nerve and call me and say they wont do business with me. Basically they didnt like the way my boss pays me and does his stubs.They where forcing me to use one of theyre computers to log into my bank statements or company time clock, basically so they. Could monitor me.After being told "your all set to pick up your car tomorrow".I even called the loan company and said everything was good and where waiting for the contract to be sent. My experience with CarMax was overall excellent. They keep their word and tell the truth. I love my new to me Corolla. The loan and purchase process went very smoothly although lengthy. I had opportunity to test their "Love your car guaranty" when my alternator went out within the warranty period. I found their service department to be professional, super courteous and helpful. Bert at the Santa Rosa CarMax service center was incredibly professional and helpful and all but held my hand through the process. My car was not only repaired quickly and thoroughly, but the exterior had been detailed. I spent not a penny and was treated more than well. We got an on-line appraisal for my leased car from CarMax and went in to complete the deal. They changed the pay off amount from what we had in writing from Honda and they came up with a bunch of ridiculous explanations for the difference. Before we had signed any papers they took my car in the back and removed the tires and deleted my contacts. When we said we no longer wanted to sell it to them based on their dishonesty, it took them a long time to actually give me my car back and they were extremely rude and unpleasant. Santa Rosa CarMax can cram it up their cram hole. I was sold a new-to-me car in October and in the past 2.5 months it has required FIVE REPAIRS. I was told that I could get into the same make/model vehicle when I dropped it off for the FIFTH time. I was told they just needed to do some paperwork in order to make that happen. Now, I'm being told that "It's fixed!" and I don't believe them. Sales manager Derrick told me, "Keep in mind, you bought a *used* car at *CarMax*." Buyers Beware!!! Our Santa Rosa salesperson identified a car in another state that fit our current needs and we had to pay for its transportation fees to get it to the Santa Rosa lot. He said, "When it comes in and you don't like it, we can work out a deal with another car, so you won't lose $$$". The car came and we did not like it. And our salesperson had quite!! Our new salesperson told us, that their salespeople are not trained to say what ours had told us. And, that no such deal/discount would be available on another car on their lot........ Basically, they called us liars. They said they has recorded phone calls between myself and the initial salesperson. We should not have paid to have the out-of-state car transferred, true. But we thought we were covered by our salesperson's word. Beware of Carmax, they discount the buyers point-of-view, think we're liars and refuse to be understanding. Let me start by saying It is much more fun to write a 5 star review at that special place that leaves a great experience in your mind and you want to share it with your friends and family. But when you have such a horrible experience you just want to tell the world how awful it is and please do not waste your time or money! So let me start at the beginning......... I had called Carmax and asked the first sales person to transfer a Suburban from Irvine California to Santa Rosa since the Santa Rosa location did not have a Suburban, that was not a smoke free car. So she says "well that could take weeks to deliver, can I find you something closer"? I said NO I have been looking for over 3 months EVERYDAY, and this is the cleanest and best price one in CA. and I want it!!! " Well like I said it will take a several weeks to transfer from Southern CA. , I said go for it I like it. I even had my sister( that lives somewhat close to Irvine) drive down and look at it for me and make sure it was a smoke free car. So after a few weeks I called and asked how long do you think before I can pick it up and she said" I did not request a transfer "I guess I misunderstood that you wanted to move forward" HELLO ????!!!! What part of " yes I like it let's do it " don't you understand? SO NOW 30 days later after they ask for a transfer I got the vehicle. So the whole time we are filling out the paper work, I asked Alden Olmsted to make SURE this vehicle was commercially registered as I need commercial registration to work. He says " yep I checked it, and we are good!" So after another 30 days plus I received the registration, and IT WAS NOT commercially registered.....WTF!!!??? So now I have to take it to a weight station way out in another city on my own time and gas, to it weighed. Now I have to transfer the title and registration from Reg to commercial and there's another fee. Yeah I'm pissed, I'm losing $$$$$ everyday I have to wait for commercial registration as I can't work without it! I will never recommend or buy another vehicle from Carmax what a headache!!!!! Minus 5 stars for training and communication. 6/13/17update So Judy says she's going to take all my paper work to DMV on Thursday and promised to call me that same day, it's now Tuesday and no call back. After 5 or 6 phone calls and several text with no answer Brandon is now my fifth or six contact calls me and says "sorry we can't do anything for you you need to come pick up all your paperwork and go to the DMV and do it yourself, but we will pick up any reimbursements". I just drove by the DMV this morning at 8:15 must have been 40 people in line. That's kind a reason why I bought a car from the car dealership so I would have to do the paperwork and stand in line for hours!~ Just think Alden, all you had do is check the right box....Training Carmax TRAINING!!!!!!! Although I ended up buying from a different dealer, the sales representative and service were top-notch. When my sister needed a car, I went with her to see what was available in her price range. Our sales rep, Joseph, showed her numerous vehicles online and on the lot. She drove one and liked it, although she wasn't quite ready to commit. We returned the following week and discovered that the payments on her favorite car were going to be excessive. Amy Lopez is very good at her job and was willing to answer all the questions I had and allowed me the freedom to chose what I wanted- not how the brand name ones push you to buy the top of the line model- and spent a lot of time making sure I understood my options. The only downside of this dealer is also their upside- the fact that the prices are set. It's nice to know that you don't have to haggle but it also doesn't leave you with any wiggle room if the car is in less than pristine condition (I suppose that is factored into the price already) Overall great experience, 10/10 would recommend! read more

CarMax sold me a death trap that required nearly 10 service trips within 17 months of owning it before the brakes failed and nearly killed me and the motorist that was hit in the accident. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM CARMAX. They are dishonest, selling fleet cars that were shoddily and dangerously repaired after being in unreported accidents. Not only that but if you take the car back to CarMax to deal with problems that occurred within weeks of buying the car, they will TELL YOU THEY REPAIRED IT while not actually having repaired the car. I have never encountered a more dishonest and, frankly, CRIMINAL, business in my entire life. I lost literally all of my money buying this car from CarMax and paying for service repairs, and now the car is totaled due to brakes that NEVER worked properly. So now I am out a car and the savings that I spent on the downpayment to CarMax for this car and the service costs that piled up since week 1 of owning this car. I tried to exchange the car for a different one a few months after purchasing it once I realized it had been in unreported accidents and one thing after another was breaking on it [back up camera after a month of owning it, sunroof issues, broken driver's side door latch, broken driver's seat, and on and on -- but they REFUSED. The final outcome was near death on the freeway with failed brakes less than 17 months after purchase. STAY AWAY FROM CARMAX at all costs. read more

Was very happy with the number but very concerned I would get re-traded at the store. When I brought the car in, had to wait forever because they were understaffed (Covid) but the deal itself couldn't be more straightforward. This review is for SELLING a car to Carmax. This brand new place has only been open since Nov 2016. We had a car to sell around the $10K range. We made an appointment, then took it in for an appraisal. They gave us their offer (written) and a Kelly Blue Book estimate which was $400 higher. Carmax said they would meet the Kelly Blue Book offer. Note that they do not haggle so save your breath. Since the offer is good for 7 days we went home to think about it and do some research. They followed up with email reminders. We were not looking forward to playing the Craigs List game, especially for this amount of money. So we decided to sell the car to Carmax and went back two days before the offer expired. Within 45 minutes we had a bank draft in our hands. They had two super sharp, courteous young women taking care of us for the sale. If you want to sell your car, here are the operative words: easy, painless, quick. Sure we could have maybe made about a thousand more selling it privately but it was worth it. Everyone we dealt with from start to finish was professional and nice. Very happy. read more

Had a great car buying experience at CarMax today! We found a car online last week, and our salesman, Emilio, had it transferred from Roseville for us. We drove it, loved it, and bought it - NO PRESSURE AT ALL from Emilio or anyone else at CarMax. Everyone was friendly and helpful - they had a nice play area for the kids, and vending machines for snacks (we were there awhile). We have been looking for a car for awhile, and the jerks at Honda ensured we will never, ever, ever go to another Honda dealership - Toyota, the same - Kia? Not much better. We have bought a few cars over the years, and always have been sandbagged, got bad deals, been pressured, blah blah blah - but not at CarMax. We will now only take our business there. It came sooner then expected & when it got here we test drove it but it wasn't what I expected to be. So we continued to keep searching. Went to CarMax on Saturday 2/4/17, because our car was totaled last Friday, and we needed a replacement. We thought we would take a look at what they had since there was such a large variety. As soon as we walked in, we were confronted by a very non-hospitable man. (We had to walk in because they fence off their lot.) When we said that we just wanted to have a look around, he rolled his eyes at us and became unbelievably rude. We were then told that we'd have to give our names and a phone number if we wanted to look around. When we mentioned that such a request is unusual, he became upset at us and told us that that's the way it happens here. What happened to the no pressure sales that they advertise? Needless to say, we walked out. 3hrs later we purchased a beautiful BMW over at Hansel BMW, where we were treated with hospitality and respect. We found a car at a different Carmax and paid the transfer fee to have it shipped to Santa Rosa this was March 6 - after several phone calls I was promised by Ben that the car would finally arrive on Friday March 17th it finally arrived on Thursday March 23 nearly three weeks! Wait - it gets worse...I went there yesterday to test drive the car - the paint was scratched and did not look like the car I had ordered then I get the appraisal back and it was $4000 ( FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS) than I received for the same car in the same condition from Carmax In Burbank!! WTF??? Worse still.. the "salesman" was a kid who has been in several accidents and know nothing about cars I asked if he could check the oil and he didn't know what a dipstick was!!! Seriously ??? If I could give 0 stars I would. Never go to Carmax in Santa Rosa. They bait and switched me twice. The first time they guaranteed to me that they were reserving a car that I had been looking at for me. They said they'd call me in two days when the car arrived. Four days later with zero communication I called them to ask what was going on. They told me that they had accidentally not made the reservation and now the car was sold. Instead they offered me an identical car for the same price, except this one had 11,000 more miles than the first one. An entire year of driving. I still wanted to check it out so they told me that they were reserving that one for me. Then when I called to check on it today they told me that somehow they hadn't remembered to reserve it and now that car was sold, but don't worry, they had a car that was identical to the first one I was looking at, but only $800 more. When I called the manager to talk to them about this they apologized for the "miscommunication" and told me they couldn't drop the extra $800 price tag because "that would be the same as haggling which is against their company vision." Not only did I get bait and switched, but I had to repeatedly contact them to learn that the cars I reserved were sold, after they said they'd update me with any new information. Even the finance girls were great and quick and gave me all the tools I needed to close my deal as soon as possible! We had a great experience at CarMax! We worked with Max and he was so helpful and professional through the whole process - from test driving to purchasing. We originally went in to test drive a few mid size SUVS and when they didn't have exactly what we were looking for Max recommended we look on their website as we'd be able to get a car shipped from another location if we found the right fit. We never felt rushed or pressured. We ended up going home and searching through their site until we found the perfect match! Once we found THE car i sent the listing over to Max and he was able to schedule the shipping (from SoCal). Within 2 weeks our car arrived in Santa Rosa and Max let me know when it was ready. Originally the experience was wonderful. HOWEVER in discovering that the air was not working. I made a service appt to discover it had NO AC!! Which they should have known. The Manager Derek worked with me to find a car that would be able to replace this Jeep Patriot. It had to be transferred from Idaho which was fine but this is where the nightmare started! Eventually after I made calls myself to Idaho and to the CarMax headquarters in Virginia did the ball even get rolling. Then the next hurdle was the fact that I had again done the footwork and gotten a loan at the RCU. I was told so many different stories and excuses it was unreal. After contacting the RCU and having them intervene did anything get resolved. NEXT I finally get the car and noticed a pit in the windshield when asked about this I was told there was nothing they could/would do to remedy this. My final word on this is::: the Sales man was wonderful however did not know answers to any of my questions about the vehicle itself or how to operate some of the accessories. I had to google the info. Then I noticed the change oil light came on. This vehicle was to have had a 100 point inspection before it rolled out!! I called the service manager to have him tell me: Just to go ahead and reset it myself!!! As the oil change note on the windshield had said it was just changed. MY Comment:::: Very sloppy and lack of thoroughness on their part all around. Originally I would have recommended them to friends as the sales experience was excellent! So I was in there yesterday to buy a Camaro that I was told and shown through texts that I was approved for. SO I went to the bank got my cashier check made sure that you had everything you needed from me... Then I got down there and you needed a w2 and the last pay stub... so on my test drive I went to my employer and got you those items... the entire time being told that I was approved. So 3 hours later I find out I am not approved... and all the text that Amy Lopez sent me were lies. I sold my car because I was told that i was approved and all i had to do was test drive the camaro and sign the docs... So am I mad yes, do i feel duped yes... will i recommend carmax after this experience no and not only will i not recommend Carmax I will let everyone know just how you treat your customers and how horrible the entire experience was. I told Amy Lopez that i worked for a Consulting firm from.the beginning... so I dont know what the problem was or why all of a sudden it was an issue because nothing changed... and then she says I am short 28 days from being there for 6 months...so that was why i couldn't get the car.
