No spots at the bar, so we had to stand for a bit so we got a martini, and instead of reaching, Diane literally came out from behind the bar to serve us! She is such a gem! We are regular customers and have been very happy in the past. The last several times we have been in the service has been pretty lousy. I hate having to say this but it actually matters to us. Waiting way too long for anyone to show up at table to take order. No offer for bread when all other tables had it. No check back for drink refill. I had to ask hostess for the check. Should really be 2 1/2 stars ... not sure if it was just a bad day but my wife who have eaten at Carmela's in the past and enjoyed did not enjoy our meals this past Friday. My wife had linguini with meat balls and I had Chicken Parm. The sauce taste burnt and was very dark. The meatballs are usually delicious but unless they changed the recipe they were not very good. I had to ask for a steak knife to cut the chicken. It seemed like our food was left over from Lunch ... The rice ball appetizer was very good so at least it was not a total loss read more

I had a great meal and AMAZING service from Katie last night. I don't have the easiest family to deal with being that I have a picky 6 and 8 year old. Katie handled everything with class and remembered lots of details that usually get swept under the rug by other servers at other restaurants. I own a restaurant myself and wish she worked for me! I have been hearing for years that the food at Carmela's is excellent and im sorry I waited so long to verify that. I was driving from Quincy to the Cape, with plenty of time, and decided to stop for lunch. Why waste my time with some boring chain restaurant? I opted for a local place, Carmela's in Kingston. I expected nothing and was pleasantly surprised by a first class, huge, lunch special. I had the enormous lunch special, haddock Florentine, with a side of spinach and pasta. It was reasonably priced and so large that I, a huge eater, had enough left for dinner (that was nicely wrapped in an insulated container for later). Haddock was seemingly fresh; spinach and pasta were well prepared, and I had the benefit of a lunch-time price. I recommend it highly. Not a truly top tier place for a memorable meal (sufficient to earn five stars) but a damn good place for a great lunch on the road. read more

This has to be one of my favorite restaurants. Its a 45 min drive from mid cape but worth the drive. I always find the service and quality excellent. The lunch specials are fantastically priced. They always bring out warm focaccia bread and oil to start. Many dinner dishes are $16-$18. On the cape these same dishes are $23-$27. read more

We sat in the bar area at a table which was clean and our waitress was very sweet, but the food was unappealing and hard to enjoy. Food: 2 - We ordered the stuffed quahogs, steak tips with butternut squash and the American Chop Suey off of the "specials" menu, which is a childhood favorite of mine. The 'hogs were probably pre-packaged, the butternut squash had a strange color and there was so much on the plate and the suey was so greasy, definitely not strained. Service: 5 - Our waitress made us feel welcome & was knowledgeable with the menu. Price: 2 - For the quality of the food, the prices were not worth it. Cleanliness: 5 - The restaurant smelled clean and fresh. Any Other Tidbits: 1 - Just sad, I think the chef has lost their love and passion for cooking. read more

This place is A MA Z I N G!! Related to the Mama Mia's folks, I believe Carmela's goes above and beyond any expectations. The wait time can be long, but that is because is because it is very worth it! The homemade noodles and even gluten free menu is awesome, and the bar is no exception either. They have a very professional espresso maker right on the bar which makes the EXPRESSO martini more than legit. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the portions are an extreme value for the money!!! This place knows Italian food and doesn't "bland it down" for the general public like so many other places do. They have terrific specials all the time, and even live acoustic entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. Located right off route 3 / exit 9, it is a diamond hiding in plain site! The best food an service you could ask for, the only draw back is the wait time and the parking. If you don't make a reservation on the weekend you might as well go elsewhere you won't get a parking spot and minimum table time will probably be 45 minutes(worth the wait in my opinion, but not if you're in a rush to get somewhere). There is such a tiny parking lot that they have to valet your car so they can double park you, but they do let the valet know when you are finishing so they can pull your car up which you can't really complain about. 5 stars, they do the best they can with the limited space they have. read more

The food is great, and when you go, ask for Jillian. Excellent understated service that has us wanting to return. The portions are generous and the quality first rate. We started with caprese salad which could have used a little more basil but was yummy. The fresh ciabatta and olive oil and cheese was nice. For entrees, I had the veal Parmesan on homemade fettuccine (highly recommended!) and my friend had Chicken Saltimboca. We both enjoyed our meals very much. We would have given Carmela's 5 stars except for the hostess. Weird to pan a hostess but she was a stuck up snot. We, as many did on this hot humid Summer night, came in wearing shorts and were immediately and obnoxiously escorted to the bar (hostess Charming, after literally looking me over head to toe, "we are going THIS way!" To the bar. The blessing is that we were served by Jillian, the downside was we spent the first several moments getting over our rude welcome. Go but ignore the hostess' sour demeanor and park behind Dunkin to avoid the valet, (valet? Really? They know this is Kingston right?) Some goofiness but the food made up for it. I have had many meals at Carmela's and have always enjoyed the experience. The menu is varied from appetizers to desserts and the food is always tasty, fresh and well presented. Recently at Carmela's I hosted a large event for a friend and it was executed wonderfully. We entertained about 50 people in a private room which was spacious and sunny. The bar provided excellent cocktails and wine, and the buffet style meal was perfect. The buffet consisted of Caesar salad, chicken marsala, sausage marinara with peppers and onions, penne pasta with olive oil and garlic, seasonal vegetables and rolls. The food was prepared to perfection and served fresh right from the kitchen. The service and attention from the staff were outstanding and the entire experience was lovely. I can't praise Carmela's enough, and I will continue to dine here, and enjoy every moment. read more

So it's funny that no one has yelped Carmela's - it's been around forever and gets so packed on the weekend that it requires complicated valet parking...in the country! It's also funny that I had never been there until this weekend, even though I drive by it every day. We went on a Sunday night, thinking that it might be less crowded, but it was still crazy busy at 7:00pm...we got one of the last spots in the secondary parking lot down the street (behind the D n'D, of course) The restaurant itself seemed pretty chill for such a full parking lot(s). We were seated right away in the cozy bar area. Overall we really enjoyed our meal at Carmela's. We went with another couple and sampled a variety of dishes. To start we tried the antipasto and the baked little necks 'espangole'. Both were really yummy, and with bread were the perfect amount for the 4 of us. For our entrees we tried the shrimp scampi, the mixed grill (a big plate of delicious meat, from what it looked like), and the chicken marsala. I can vouch for the chix marsala - it was really good, and served over homemade fettucine...delicious. I've heard that it's best to stick to more traditional Italian dishes here, so that informed my order and I wasn't disappointed. Wine and drink list looked interesting but I did not partake - service was friendly and relaxed, but efficient. I would almost give 4 stars, but I've only been there once. We stopped in last minute after my 24 hour trip home from Bonaire. My daughter and I were craving Italian so Yelped where to go..we hit it well. Thanks everyone for the great tip. The place was packed tonight but we scored a deuce in the bar to watch VA Tech slaughter VA. To the food, I had the eggplant parm and my daughter had the seafood Fra Diavolo. We loved both and had a full half portion each to bring home. The portions are massive! Oh the bread..amazing with great EVOO dipping and great olives. I had a glass of Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio. We visited Carmela's today for the first time in 20 years, when we moved out of the area. We happened to be in Boston for a Red Sox game and took a detour down Rte 3 and stopped at Carmela's. I'm so happy that we were able to get a table quickly, and was even more happy that the food was as wonderful as we remembered! It was our favorite place when we lived in Marshfield MA. Our server was so nice, and Jeanette the hostess went above and beyond to make sure our visit met our expectations. What a treat to find things as delicious as they were 20 years ago! Thank you to the staff for giving us a lovely meal and a chance to reminisce. We will definitely not wait that long to return. My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice restaurant to enjoy an evening out together. We ended up finding our way over to Carmelas Restaurant as first time patrons. We were greeted by a friendly and inviting host. Our server was attentive without hovering, very professional and polite. We shared the caprese to start, it was the freshest and overall high quality caprese salad I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. For our entree's I had the Pesto Tortelini which was so flavorful and the pasta was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend enjoyed his Shrimp Fra Diavolo. The dining was cozy yet elegant. I mentioned this to our waitress who showed no interest in my observation. This is not the way forward if a restaurant wants to be successful. Absolutely loved this place. The food was delicious, the portions ridiculously large and the service top notch. The lighter fare portions are enough for two, so make sure you go hungry. Blessed! Yes, we left feeling blessed by the "nice as pie" people here and the very good food. It was a very busy Saturday night and the place was packed. Despite that, each and every person working there from Sara our waitress to the kid refilling our water glasses, came across as relaxed and friendly and kind; just the opposite of what you might expect on such a busy night with so many customers. I must say that management must do an especially good job of hiring such nice people, people who work so well under duress and keep smiling all the while. Before I forget, yes the food was first class, too, with very generous portions. I enjoyed my baked ziti and my wife was very pleased with her veal marsala. Wish I could post a photo of my ziti here! So come for the food, but be sure to bring a nice tip for these friendly folks who earn their keep and my admiration! Carmela's is conveniently located just off of Exit 9 in Kingston... a good place to hit for dinner on the way to or from Cape Cod. They do take reservations which are recommended in this popular place; call ahead. PS - Parking here is tight but not a problem with the valets helping out. When leaving the lot, don't go out near the traffic light (too dangerous); go out the other end of the lot and you'll be fine with more room to get into traffic. read more

Went for a late dinner last night. It was late and not crowded which was nice. Reasonably priced and overall excellent experience. They also offer many items that can be prepared Gluten-free which is great. Started with a specialty martini which was generous and tasty. Eggplant Tower appetizer was good w/ one exception - in the height of summer produce they used a non-ripe, tasteless hothouse tomato which was disappointing. My chicken Carmela was delicious and a very generous portion as well as served on homemade fettuccine. The Saltimbocca and Veal Parm were excellent as well. All served with shredded Parmesan on the side which is a nice touch. The service was great - no complaints there at all. A 4.5 rated experience mostly due to serving hothouse tomatoes in the height of fresh produce season. read more

Went to Carmela's last night for dinner - it was a ride for me being from Quincy but well worth the trip. It was awesome as always. Salad was nice and fresh, the cocktails from the bar were great and the Chicken Marsala was the best ever - the home made fettuccine really enhanced the dish. Kind of a bizarre experience. Food- mediocre 3 stars. The bread to start would be a 6/5 though! Service- 1.5 stars. Pretty slow, had to remind them to bring more water and bread multiple times. Heard 2 other tables asking other workers to find their waiters for them. Saw someone get up to pay their bill after waiting for too long. Saw someone send their food back. Heard the manager talking to the owners about someone's keys getting lost by valet. Ended up being the last ones in the restaurant (930pm on a Saturday but google says open till 11pm) and the workers started vacuuming around us while we were still eating even though not all the tables had even been cleared. I was honestly just confused why the workers seemed to be MIA and flustered when there weren't that many tables to serve read more
