Kind of a bizarre experience. Food- mediocre 3 stars. The bread to start would be a 6/5 though! Service- 1.5 stars. Pretty slow, had to remind them to bring more water and bread multiple times. Heard 2 other tables asking other workers to find their waiters for them. Saw someone get up to pay their bill after waiting for too long. Saw someone send their food back. Heard the manager talking to the owners about someone's keys getting lost by valet. Ended up being the last ones in the restaurant (930pm on a Saturday but google says open till 11pm) and the workers started vacuuming around us while we were still eating even though not all the tables had even been cleared. I decided to go there on my first date as the food had been excellent on my previous two visits. This third visit was no exception. The meal was very good and the waiter was good. The issue was... I wanted to make a reservation because it was a Friday night and I know it can get busy. So at 5pm I called and asked if they took reservations. The hostess (or whoever answered) said yes they take reservations. So I made a reservation for 2 for 7pm- hoping this would score me some points with my date. We arrived on time and I checked in with the hostess, gave my name and she said "it'll be a little bit". I reminded her I made a reservation. She said nothing. It was busy so I understood a few minute delay. After 15 minutes I checked with her again she she said they were working on it. My date was saying it wasn't a big deal but I wa getting aggravated. After a half hour I wanted to go back and check again but my date convinced me not to. We didn't get seated until 7:40, 40 minutes later than my "reservation" to me this is unacceptable. Either don't take reservations or honor them when they are made. I was very disappointed. I hope whoever reads this learns from my poor experience. read more

When my kids asked me were I wanted to go for my birthday, I said Camela's. I've been there a few times before and the food was great as was the service, but NOT this time. My mussels scampy was tastless....no garlic what so ever. I ordered the jumbo shrimp for my meal and it was NOT jumbo shrimp, it was cocktail shrimp. Very small. The crabmeat stuffing had NO crabmeat in it. It was $22! The waitress LOST $50 cash! She came back to the table and said we was short for the check. That was untrue. And to top it off, when I got home, my take out was the wrong one! I got somebodys left overs! read more

Carmela's is a great local place. Very friendly staff, very good food and great value. Carmela's has a lot of red sauce dishes that you know and love and they also have fresh fish and other special Italian dishes. Did I mention value ? Prices here are set so you can bring your family. Carmela's also has half portions for lighter eaters. So you can save $$$. Unfortunately, Carmela's suffered a fire a few nights ago which shuttered the restaurant. My heart goes out to the management and especially the staff. Carmela's will have the staff work temporarily in the Tuscan room of Mama Mia's on the Plymouth waterfront on Tuesday and Thursday. I understand that ownership will rebuild and reopen soon. I wish Carmela's my very best. Please support this excellent establishment. read more

I am embarrassed to say that I drove past this this restaurant too many times on my way for meals that were not nearly as good as my chicken parm at Carmela's. On my first visit I was traveling alone so I sat at the bar. The setup was not too crowded and the staff were universally helpful and friendly. The wine by the glass selection was good and included a current favorite of mine. Chicken parm was done to perfection and was complemented by red sauce and homemade noodles that I would have come in for on their own. I believe the restaurant may be owned by the same family that owns Mama Mia's. Compared to other restaurants in the area, Carmela's has better food and is a good value proposition. read more

i've heard such great things about this place. It may have been an off night, but it really wasn't good. Service was great, prices were reasonable and the warm foccacia was delicious. The entrees- not so great. Chicken parm was think and tough and over-sauced. Chicken saltimbocca was super sweet with an almost pungent flavor. Hopped in here based on the rave reviews my GF constantly gives Carmela's.. She has been many times, I myself had yet to visit.. Two weekends ago we made the trip, younger Brother joined along too... Well, I am really glad we made the trip.. It was a Saturday night, it was busy, not crazy busy and we were there at peak dinner hours.. We made our way to the bar, three seats sitting there waiting for us, almost like the bar Gods had known we were coming.. We got cozy in our seats, ordered our drinks from the super nice and very efficient bartender and reviewed the menu.. My Brother and I quickly put in an order of Calamari and Lobster Ravioli.. Well, the appetizers came out in reasonable time and let me say, delicious!! The Calamari were fried perfectly, little to no oil on the plate, not chewy at all, which those of you that like Calamari know, it is easy to over cook and become like a piece of Bubalicious in your mouth, not the case here, perfection.. Lobster Ravioli app? Yes please! Phenomenal! Packed with Lobster, the sauce was absolutely perfect, and the portion size is crazy big.. Now.. Entrees... My Brother and I had the Veal Parm, we ordered the large portion (hint, if you want lunch the next day and maybe dinner, order this version) the food took a bit of time to get out, and it didn't seem that busy.. However, as they say, people will wait for good food.. That's exactly what we got.. The Veal was tender and almost to the melt in your mouth area.. My only criticism was the cooking consistency.. The end of my veal was a bit crunchy, over cooked, where the rest of the Veal was perfectly tender (I am really grasping there though).. My Brother didn't even talk, he just woofed his down.. The spaghetti was cooked nicely and the sauce was fantastic.. My GF ordered the baked ziti, it's her favorite, and as usual she absolutely loved it.. I would highly recommend Carmela's to anyone... Mrs M. and myself decided to go out for lunch this past week to good old Carmela's. This is a place that has a lot of memories for us. We had our bridal shower here, have had company Christmas dinner here and countless dinners with family. The food is terrific too. We ordered calamari and fried mozzarella sticks to share as an appetizer. Both were very nicely done although the marinara dipping sauce for both in addition to being too watery, was way too hot and took some time to cool down. For entrees Mrs. M ordered a new dish from the menu, mac and cheese with chicken, bacon and sun dried tomatoes. I ordered the chicken, broccoli and ziti. Mrs. M wasn't a huge fan of her dish, she found it to be way too heavy. I thought it was fantastic myself, very rich and creamy and of course it had bacon which makes anything delicious! My entree was OK. The sauce had a nice flavor, but the chicken was just so-so in my opinion, I think they would do better to grill it before putting it in the dish. To me it seems like it's oven baked without any seasoning, very plain. It is worth noting that my wife loved my entree, so I guess we should have switched right from the start. The waitress, although very pleasant was extremely slow and lunch took close to 90 minutes which was really irritating. Then my wife barely ate half her entree and when the waitress took it away, never asked if we wanted it to take home and I don't believe we asked either, so needless to say it ended up in the trash. When we asked about it, she gave us a 5 dollar gift certificate for a future meal which was a good gesture, but dang I wanted to eat that for dinner that night... All in all not my best experience at Carmela's, but I'm still a big fan. They do Italian very well and the prices are reasonable, especially for lunch. read more

Carmela's is a cute, small-town, Italian restaurant worthy of 3.5 stars. My date and I came here on a Thursday night and were seated in the dining area across from the bar. Since we arrived late (around 9pm), there wasn't a huge crowd, probably two other parties dining while others were seated at the bar. Our waiter was very friendly and seemed to have worked at Carmela's for a long time-- he was comfortable with everything he spoke about and had great timing between our courses and during our meal. We were immediately seated and brought a delicious pita bread to start us off. After ordering, we were served our very generous drinks. As an appetizer, we had the Stuffed Mushrooms that are filled with a combined lobster and crab stuffing. They were soo yummy, and the cook was not stingy on the lobster and crab meat. For an entree, I ordered the Shrimp a la Vodka which consisted of fresh jumbo shrimp sauteed with red peppers and asparagus plated served over spinach ravioli. The dish was very good, and I enjoyed the presentation of it as well. For example, the ravioli was made with a striped green pasta-- so fun! My dining partner had the Veal Oscar which included a veal cutlet topped with blue crab and fresh asparagus. He had the option of having fresh vegetables and mashed potatoes as a side or his choice of pasta. My motto is, "When in doubt, go with the mashed potatoes." They were a little too whipped for my taste, but all-in-all had a very good flavor. We both had leftovers by the end of the meal. The pricing of Carmela's is fair for both the proportions you are given and the flavor of the dishes. Our delicious mushrooms were only $7.95 while the Shrimp a la Vodka and Veal Oscar were each $18.95. I hope we return to Carmela's to try some of their other dishes! read more

Great local bar/restaurant find in Plymouth, MA! Went here for dinner and had a steak with onions and it was sooo good! Definitely a local area bar/restaurant as there were a lot of local patronizing the place. It seems my wife and I were the only tourist there but i loved the place! Our waiter knew exactly how to take care of all our needs even before we knew ourselves! I love service such as this! And the hostess was warm and friendly and acknowledges us as we're leaving after our meal! That's how you make customers feel good eating at your place! Highly recommend! read more

My husband had a meeting in Kingston so we stopped here before heading back to somerville. Pleasantly surprised. They offer smaller portions of most dishes, which makes it more affordable and also keeps your portion in control. The bread they serve is very fresh and good, with a bowl of olives. I got the eggplant parm with the homemade fettuccine which was very good. Also good service. Prob won't be back, but will not likely be in that area again. Valet parking is good too. read more

Food, service and ambience are 10! 5 of us on a very busy Saturday with reservations at 6 pm. You must make reservations or the wait can be 1 hour or more. We were sat in about 5 minutes and proceeded with or drink order. Being so busy it was a bit of time between ordering our salads, entrees and 2nd round of drinks. But our wait person keep us informed as we went along. Great service while under duress due to the packed house! Food was outstanding and portions are huge. Focaccia bread is delicious. Carmelas is just a great little neighborhood spot. Portions are large, ingredients fresh, nothing fancy. Service is earnest albeit a little less polished than in the city. They have great deals, Tuesday nights 20% of entire meal bill and they have a 39.95 special for 2 that included soup or salad, appetizer, and a bottle of wine. Party of 6 for a Birthday dinner tonight and the main entrees were disappointing. 3 of us chose the ribeye & scallop special and were surprised at how thin & over cooked our steaks were. Poorly seasoned and flavorless made for a disappointing dinner and an even more disappointing cocktail with the espresso martinis not being made with real espresso as we were staring at an espresso machine throughout the whole night. Went here with a group of friends. Everyone ordered something different and everyone loved their choices! Service was fast and courteous. Ambiance is nothing to write home about and there wasn't anything truly innovative on the menu. But ..., what they do offer is excellently prepared. My husband and I were passing by this restaurant and decided to try it out. We were seated right away, and the waiter came over shortly after and took our order. The food on the menu looked fabulous, and the prices were very reasonable. And I was amazed that you could pick lighter menu or full. We were still in lunch mode at the time, so I ordered steak tips. The taste was superb and it was cooked exactly like I asked for it. I must've had a lb. of steak. I couldn't believe all the food. My husband ordered veal parm. It was a thick piece of veal over a whole lot of pasta. The sauce was delicious. Not the out of a can taste. We will be sure to return to this place again, with no hesitation. OK, Let's start with fruit flies around out table(even in the ladies room). Then there's the meal. GROSS. I ordered veal piccata. The veal was a thick slab of tough/chewy meat. It was not a thin, freshly seared to a seasoned brown piece of meat. Anyway, the meat and noodles sat in a bowl of over lemony water/oil liquid. Ate a few bits and couldn't eat anymore. Hostess was very nice, the waitress was a nag(how many times can one ask "are you still eating?" and the bartender was a grump. It gets two stars for the tiramisu. First and last visit. read more

Although I frequent this restaurant often and enjoy the food, service and atmosphere, this review is about the experience I had planning and hosting a baby shower. The price was perfect, the room was perfect for the 50 guests and the allotted time was more than adequate. The waitresses were so efficient and pleasant that people made a special point of telling me how impressed they were with them. And the food? I am still hearing about how good it was two weeks after the shower. Lisa and Keith were great with the planning and the cute personalized menus was a real nice touch. Even the gentleman doing the valet parking received kudos from the guests because he helped carry in the large or bulky gifts.
