On the weekend they are overwhelmed when busy, the front hostess is young and rude, she could not take 1 minute to help us, couldn't make eye contact. The servers concentrate on flipping tables fast versus waiting on them. For example. Asking if they need anything, offer more refresh or another round of drinks. The time away for cleaning and bussing could have been asking us if we need anything. The food was not bad, the drinks were fine. They just need better customer service and taking time to listening to customers. It's hard times for all and customer service needs to shine more than ever. My chicken fajita platter was served about ten minutes after I ordered at the counter. It had a very generous amount of meat, with tasty beans and okay rice. The mild sauce was just okay. I should have asked for the hot sauce. The service was helpful, and somewhat friendly, while the dining area was small, spartan, and clean with background music. read more

I was so happy to find that not only does Carmen's Cocina sell breakfast food, but they sell breakfast tacos on white corn shells. For me, that's the holy grail of breakfast foods. The freshness of their food combined with their amazingly friendly staff should keep people coming back, even to this small sister location to the original Carmen's Cocina in Merriam. Small, locally owned, and incredible. Carmen's has some of the best authentic Mexican in KC. The service is awesome. They are very friendly. Their taco Tuesday deals are fantastic. I know it may not be authentic, but their nachos are delicious as well. Don't miss this hole-in-the-wall next to the Price Chopper. Their hours are a bit wanky, so make sure they are open before you head over there. They also close randomly for vacations. I've had that happen twice. I love it, that they are humble enough to close down so their family can spend time together. It feels like a true small, family owned and run business. They work hard at it shows. Don't tell my Kansas family but i'll be skipping Mi Ranchito for this humble and hardworking Mexican food that's not just delicious but inexpensive. The owner has a sign up next to the menu that reads, "I'm not lucky, i'm blessed" and i have to agree... tasty food doesn't come from luck. If you're looking for a bit of nostalgia you need that hard shell ground beef taco. If you're looking for great authentic Mexican food, it's all over the menu. They're so affordable and the portion of Chorizo I get is almost laughably large. First time trying the food at this Mexican restaurant since my wife and I moved here from Southern California. We don't do Tex-Mex and food smothered in cheese or creams. This is not Tex- Mex whatsoever. The Menudo was great and tasted very close to "moms" menudo. Tamales had a lot of flavor and moist as we ate. If your looking for more authentic Mexican food "mom & pop" type food that you can enjoy with your family this is it. Give it a try, you won't regret it. We missed the 11am cut off for breakfast food which they still provide since they close at 2pm but there is an upcharge..ok. breakfast burrito and breakfast bowl. Both pretty terrible, missing egg, a few bites here & there, mostly potato chunks and chorizo meat which was fair. Will not be returning. Disappointing. read more

Today I made a visit to the original Carmen's Cocina for breakfast only to find a new owner there, so cruzing down to Carmen's Cocina II Once there, ordered 'huevos rancheros'. Plate consisted of over-easy-eggs smothered with sweet ranchero salsa (phuy !), refried beans (I give it an 8), and fried cubed potatoes (I give it a 7) and a cup of black coffee. For this visit, I give it a 6.5. Next visit I will have to try their 'gorditas' and hope they have a good-tasting-salsa. read more

I love their thick chips with guacamole and salsa! The spicy salsa is so much more flavorful than the mild version. We just ordered the gordita the other day and it was delicious! Hands down this place is so yummy. My office often picks up tacos on taco Tuesday and wow they are so good packed with flavor. I highly recommend this location for an easy lunch. I've heard the breakfast is pretty good too. Inside is pretty small so it's definitely first come first serve but they do really well with call in orders to pick up. If you order tacos I always ask for extra salsa but learned they do charge a dollar for a very very small container. Customer service is pretty good and I've never had bad food from here. read more
