Maybe if I had chosen something different, I'd be writing another kind of review. The chili sauce burger just wasn't for me. I gave it a second try since I had high expectations--after all, eating inside a train sounded like such a unique experience. While the atmosphere and design (both inside and out) were definitely unusual and fun, the burger itself didn't meet my taste. Service was fast, though, which I appreciated. A small, cute, fast burger joint overlooking the Sunset Strip. There's a medium-sized parking lot behind the restaurant, which is greatly appreciated. It's a train car repurposed to be a counter-serve diner with different variations of burgers, fries, and hot dogs/ sausages available. Food is hot, fresh, and comes out in less than 10 minutes. We had burgers and an order of chili fries. My partner liked it because he said was on "the lighter side," but to me, it was more "unseasoned" than "light." Which is fine, a fast burger *cooked to your desired temperature* at less than $10 is perfectly worth it, and you can grab salt and pepper at the counter to give it more flavor. The chili was nondescript, but the fries were hot and crispy even under the chili. Free on-site parking. Friendly counter staff. Cheap plus actually fast fast food. A pleasant view of Sunset Strip and the questionable driving that goes on in it. This place is almost the opposite of what you'd expect around this area. This is a cool little spot that's been here for ages!!! The old train car turned into a restuarant serving wonderful chili with burgers or hot dogs is right on. I believe I reviewed this place about 10 Years ago and after all of this time I keep coming back. I've been a loyal Carneys customer since 2001 and after all of these years Carneys has not changed. Sure, occasionally they'll have some sponsored marketing stuff on the outside but the service and the food have not changed. A good old fashioned burger that's made with love and friendly service. Something about walking in to a train car just makes you feel happy no matter how old you are. I hope social media never gets a hold of this place because the lines will be out the door if people find out about Carneys. I love that it still feels like MY spot. You can't miss the big yellow train when you drive down sunset so do yourself a favor and stop by. They have something for everyone and they've been service a killer veggie burger since before it was cool to do so. Even their turkey burger is fire! Burgers, fries and hotdogs on a train car can seem like a tourist spot, and it is one people come to check out. But even if you live in LA, this is a spot for great food and a quirky atmosphere and a cool throw back to a bygone era with the classic train car. The service is quick, walk up to the window, place your order, grab a seat and before you get settled your food will be ready. Staff are all about getting your food out quickly, seem nice enough, but a quick interaction. Inside, you are in the original train car, luggage racks along the ceiling, large panoramic windows to take in the Sunset strip, there are many old pictures of them moving the train cars onto the properties and other old photos of stars, etc. there is also outdoor seating on a wooden deck to take in the California sun and people watch. This is comfort food and maybe not necessarily in line with the quote "California healthy lifestyle", but everything in moderation right. Come and get a big order of chili cheese fries, burgers, hot dogs, etc. then just hit the gym extra hard to burn it off.. The chili is thick and hits the spot, great on the fries, burgers or hot dogs. Their burgers come with the works and the patties are cooked just right, all the flavors work well together. You can get the hot dogs standard or a red eye version which is spicy. Try everything, I don't think you will be disappointed by any of the items on the menu, just good 'ole American classics. We are really loving Carney's. We have been a few times now and it is still hard for us to decide if we love Carney's more than Tommy's. Both have great chili. Carney's has much better hot dogs. Tommy's has better fries. What are we to do--go to both in the same day. And yet the jury in our little heads is still out. Carney's is at a great location, right on the Sunset Strip with a great view of Sunset Blvd. You can eat outdoors, inside or get it to go. I am sure someone delivers, but I don't know who. Parking is free and for Hollywood that is a plus right there. Carney's is located inside an old train car, or a building meant to look like a train, I know little of trains. It is just super cute. You go into the train and order at the counter, wait for your food and eat. It is all super good. We love their chili burgers. They will cook them to order for you. Their chili fries are also great. My grandson loves the chili cheese fries, but they only have American cheese and even for a junk food junkie like me, American cheese is just not cheese. Their hot dogs are juicy and great.
