One of the most visually pleasing restaurants on Sunset Blvd. It is literally a restaurant on a train. The restaurant is adjacent to Saddle House Chop House, and there are signs in their parking space that prohibits outside parking. I arrived Sunday afternoon, so it wasn't during their busy hours. I can see this restaurant attracting many people during the late hours after drinking and clubbing. Something about this restaurant tastes very similar to Tommy's with ideas borrowed from In-N-Out. So who came first to fame, Tommy's or Carney's? What I ordered: HAMBURGER (LOW CARB STYLE) - Mustard, Mayo, Ketchup, Pickles, Onions, Tomato, Lettuce - Combining two great burger joints into one. I get the juicy taste from Tommy's and the crispy lettuce wrap "Protein-style" from In-N-Out. Also, I didn't want my burger to be oozing with chili, so I asked for it on the side. Did I have a problem with this burger? Nope. Can I call it innovative? Maybe, if you apply the 3% rule. Carneys is an LA Institution! As a local I can only dream that other restaurants can live up to how cool Carneys is. I've been going there since I was a Hollywood kid and haven't had a single bad meal in 35+ Years. During the Post-Holiday Hangover, there was a discrepancy over a credit card bill amount for me and my Godson. I returned months later and Carneys Manager [John Wolf] said he'd look into the problem, personally. Within a week, I had John's private cell number. Within 10 Days he had solved the problem, apologized, and things were completely fixed. He wouldn't even accept a tip as he realized one of his employees had erred in the first place. I do like Carney's on Sunset Strip and the train car diner decor / design. The food here is reliable and good. It's much better than the overrated "Pink's" and many other Hollywood eateries locals try to persuade visitors are destination dining spots to visit in Los Angeles. I'd say this is worth going to if in the area. It's in the heart of the busiest part of The Sunset Strip, but if you're here, you should check it out, it's fast food type counter service, so not fine dining, more convenient comfort food that's fast for folks on the go. I missed this place so much! I haven't been here since pre-covid. A wonderful friend turned me on to this place! I appreciate the free parking in the back. I usually come here too in the past, and now when I bring riders down here to Hollywood Sunset Strip. I love this cool train car turned into a great burger and hot dog restaurant. It is really clean inside and outside. The guy at the cashier is really nice, helped me out super well with my order. The cook, who you can see right in front, works really hard!!! Give these guys a raise. Ok... to the good stuff now...the Food! My order was simple, and usually, the same. Tonight, I got a chili burger, chili hot dog, no onions, as I am allergic to them. The place was not busy and the staff I met inside (management?) claimed to be related to the founder, but knew nothing about the history of the interior decor and was not keen to share anything else about the history of the business except to ask me to agree that wasn't it "cool"; the impression I got was that he really didn't care anything about the family legacy or was just plain ignorant and/or disinterested. The lack of enthusiasm shared made my visit a real letdown and canceled out any possible charm of the place. Food not terrible, but certainly nothing to write home about. read more

I returned for the first time in years last night and I'm elated to say that they are still as excellent as I remember. The dogs are flavorful and are accompanied by an incredible snap. Not the biggest dog but it still packs a punch. The Chili is a greasy delicious heaven. Taste good enough to be eaten on its own if needed. The mustard provides a small but noticeable kick of heat to cut through tha richness of the chili. I tend to avoid restaurants on the Sunset Strip for fear that they are nothing more than tourist traps, so when my boss recommended Carney's I had some hesitation. But I'll admit it--I was wrong. Having grown up in Utah, char-broiled burgers are my favorite kind of burger and actually a little hard to find in L.A. (good ones are at least). The burgers at Carney's are simply great. No frills. No fuss. The restaurant's interior is also fun to take in but do be advised it's a tight space so I wouldn't recommend a visit here with large parties. I've been coming to this spot for over 20 years now. After going again after a 5-6 year hiatus, the food is just like I remember it. The chili dogs are always on point and give me a nostalgic feeling whenever I eat them. I was in the area and stopped by just a few minutes after 11am on a Saturday. There was no crowd and parking was easy. The service was great and the food was ready in minutes. I did however try a hamburger for the first time and I was pretty disappointed. Today we ordered: 2 double cheese burgers, 1 carney dog, 1 polish Chicagoan and 1 Chicagoan hot dog. I'm at a list for words. Terrible is all I can say. All of it was bad. Stale buns, no more snap to the hot dogs, cheese in the burgers was cold (weird), burgers weren't very good, fries tasted like they had freezer burn or something. I enjoy eating outside on a sunny day, their outdoor area is very nice and relaxing,it has a great view of the strip, of the cool Art Deco Sunset Tower building. I enjoy eating there and watch the "action" , see what's going on the strip, people watch. Food is as good as usual. Their beer menu has changed. An IPA is on tap now, Blue Moon instead of Sam Adams. I prefer a Sam Adams, but a Blue Moon still works with my New Yorker. My husband got his Chili dog as usual and we enjoyed a couple of large portion of fries. Splurge a tad, right?
