Carne Asada

This was definitely some of the best Mexican food I ever had and the staff were so nice and helpful. Special shoutout to Walter!

Al Pastor tacos. Added an additional taco. Yuka fritas. Guacamole. Iced tea.

Tried Carnitas Michoacan for lunch. My husband and I split it. Ordered the Al Pastor for $7.99. It comes with 3 tacos, no sides. Also ordered an additional taco for $3.50, Yuca frita $3.50, Guacamole $2.00 and a small unsweetened tea for $1.99. I know I'm the minority here, but I did not enjoy the tacos at all. They were very oily and lacked flavor. The Yuka frita were delicious! Crispy on the outside, and soft in the center. The dipping sauce that they come with, is okay. It's a mayonnaise base...tasted somewhat like Mac sauce. The guacamole is obviously homemade and very good, but would've been nice to have some chips with, even if they raised the price for 'chips and guac'. The unsweetened tea had a nice balanced flavor. My overall impression is meh. Mainly because I didn't enjoy the main course; the tacos. But also because I found their prices to be quite high, compared to the competition, for a drive thru taco joint. I paid over $20 for 4 tacos, some yuka fritas and a small iced tea. For a comparison, I can go to my local Mexican restaurant and order 2 iced teas with unlimited refills, flaming hot fajitas with beans and rice, and unlimited chips and salsa, for about the same price. And this place wants a tip for drive thru service. No. My husband didn't like it either. I think I was a bit more forgiving than him. It just wasn't for us.

Amazing Salsa

Ever since spending a lot of time in San Antonio I've been craving tacos, but not just any tacos, "Good Tacos!!!" And if you know TX, you know you're hard-pressed to find decent tacos in VA! So, when I heard positive things about this joint, I had to stop in for a breakfast burrito one weekday morning. It's a very small drive-thru style joint with a single table and 4 chairs inside, but I opted to run inside to place my order... I wanted to see and smell inside and have to say, the smells were on-point and what my eyes showed me was that it's clean and the staff offered up really good, friendly service. I ordered their Burrito Mexicano and sat for a few mins while they made it... The wait was quick and they gave me a cup of their salsa also. The flavors of the burrito were seriously On-Point!! The salsa was very very tasty and authentic! Not loaded with chunky tomato and not a wet tomato sauce either, rather a roasted pepper sauce that offered robust flavors and great spice! I thoroughly enjoyed the burrito and took each bite with a little pour of salsa - INCREDIBLE!!! Highly recommend this joint - I'll definitely be back... many times!!

Menu has a lot of great choices if you are looking for authentic food.

Our bartender/server was Lashone and she was funny, fast and friendly! She was pouring drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant and didn't miss a beat!! The breakfast menu is small but everything sounded fantastic. I chose the Steak Tacos; my husband chose the brie and bacon frittata (added by the chef since the quiche was sold out. Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating. We'll be back soon to see Lashone!

So, my friend and I decided to share a veggie omelet & a black bean & corn veggie burger. Both were excellent, though the burger was our fave. The burger had such a flavorful chipotle mayo (not spicy); it really complimented the blend of corn and black beans with some guac. Yum! The omelet was quite good, too. The incredible selection of veggies were well-cooked and plentiful - asparagus, red pepper, squash, zucchini, red onion, all tucked into fluffy eggs topped with melted provolone. Yum! The king-sized bed was very comfortable, and the shower was wonderful. Cons: There are bars/nightclubs nearby; our room faced the main street and it was pretty loud out there until around midnight. The temperature in the room seemed off - at 74° we were freezing, but at 77° we were sweating. The walls are very thin; we could hear our neighbors on both sides having conversation. If you arrive later in the day and you can find a parking spot on the street, grab it because metered parking is free Monday through Saturday between 5 pm and 8 am and free all day Sunday.

It gets the job done for being a hotel and that's about all I can give it. Beware the parking experience is a little strange as it doesn't have a visitor lot and has to be valet so if you have a car be warned. The rooms are nothing fantastic, they feel very early 2000s which isn't bad but isn't great either. I feel the bathroom could use a remodel because the sink drains were clogged, and the bathroom felt very outdated. The room was spacious though with two queen beds, a chair and very cold A/C. It also had a nice tv in the room too. Beds also felt very comfortable which is nice for a hotel. I definitely would consider this hotel again now that my expectations are a little lower on what to expect. The hotel bar was always dead without anyone around, but the lobby in it of itself was very spacious and accommodating. I also really enjoyed how many things that were walkable around downtown Fredericksburg from the hotel. A ton of breweries, the river front, and restaurants were all within a mile to walk which made it a breeze. It's a very small town with not a lot going on during the week but it did the job.

Theres plenty of parking and they have a small area for outside seating. As you walked in, there's plenty of seating, they have an open kitchen concept, a side room for special events or meetings (25 people capacity) but it's their mission that caught my interest as cashier/ hostess Lexi explains to me. This company spreads and provides charity catering throughout the community with multiple outlets. Lexi was very patient as she explains how the menu works. I ordered 3 items: 1) Loaded baked potato 2) Fried fish 3) Chicken and waffles. I just wanted to taste the baked potato without any protein on top. I don't know what it was that had an off taste, maybe the butter. The potato itself was soft topped with cheese, green onions and a little bland. The chicken and waffle were tasty. The fried chicken wasn't as crispy as I would like it but it was well seasoned and the waffle was soft. There are so many options for your sides. So for the fried fish, the appearance looks delicious but it was very thin and dry. Even with the tartar sauce it was still dry. I was really looking forward to it. The sides I selected were fries and hope cakes (which are sweet corn bread). Their beverages are on point, I got their lemonade and sweet tea. Lexi was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant is only opened on Fridays-Sundays for regular business but since they do multiple catering events, they are open 7 days a week. They also offer Sunday brunch between the hours of 9a-3p which the entire dining room is open with mocktail and coffee station. There isn't a buffet during the brunch but a la carte off the menu. I would make a return visit to try their brunch menu in the near future.

Today, they didn't really have that many food options. They mentioned that they were doing this because of the weather. However, the patrons that flooded into the place would potentially advertise that they were actually quite busy. I was not super impressed with the options ,as a vegetarian, I was hoping that there would be at least one quiche or breakfast option that didn't have meat out of the 3 options. I was also quite disappointed that they didn't have any of their breakfast wraps, which seemed to take over their food feed on yelp. I opted for the egg salad sandwich as it was the only food item I could eat. My biggest complaint was definitely the service. I ordered a food option and a coffee drink, and the barista made everyone else's food in line behind me before even making my coffee. It was obvious that she kept running around to grab additional items that should have been stocked before the store was open. If you are in a rush, this is definitely not a spot to grab something. Above and beyond this, there is a sign at the front that says they can't print out receipts, which is something that in my mind is not OK. Overall, the food that we had was really good. I was 0% impressed with the coffee. I always find it very strange when an iced drink comes in a paper cup without a straw. We were not given utensils for both of our food items, just one, and there were so many customers that I just decided to use a knife to eat what fell out of my sandwich.
