Our server was Paris. She was really attentive and made sure we had everything we asked for and checked back to be sure our food was to our liking. She really seemed to care that we had a great visit and we did, thanks in large part to her. The restaurant including the restrooms was very clean. The food was delivered quickly and perfectly prepared to our orders. I was there with 2 others and everyone commented on the good food and great service. The selection of food was good and the prices were great. If you're looking for something that's in between fast food and fine dining, this is it. I got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and let me just say that it was more than enough for me. Very disappointed with today's curbside order - dinners. This is the second time I order for pick up and in both cases they have short change my order .. I am not sure if this place is a family owned restaurant or a local chain. It sure feel like a chain, but I could be wrong. The atmosphere is similar to that of a fish themed Chili's but the staff is friendly and have a nice smile on their faces. The food was ok. My fish was flavorful and the mashed potatoes too. I bet there was a ton of butter in them but I did love them. The okra was not very crispy, a bit on the mushy side but still ok to eat. The hush puppies were the least enjoyable we've had in the coast. They must fry them in the same oil they fry fish because they did taste like fish. Pair that with the sweet flavor of the batter and you have a very very odd flavor combo. Not a fan. I received a bacon Swiss burger patty and cheese including fries were cold. Returned it and waitress came back in 2 mins all they did was microwave it. Carolina grille has been our "go to" restaurant for many years. They have many fine American dishes including hamburgers, chicken, and meat and potatoes. Also, seafood. I love their seafood basket. I must say however that the fish and chips has not been good the last couple of times I ordered it; kind of "rubbery" it was. Otherwise the grille has a wide variety of dishes at an average price. I had the two-item combo for $14 with the half rack of ribs, sautéed shrimp and mashed potatoes (white gravy) and steamed vegetables. My boyfriend ordered the tuna steak cooked medium with the sweet baked potato and onion rings for $12. My meal had the perfect portions for a combo, definitely satisfied my appetite without going overboard. The ribs were tender and had just enough sauce--I loved the spicy kick to them. The shrimps were small but plentiful and seasoned with a side of cocktail sauce. Mashed potatoes were pretty standard with the white gravy giving it a diner feel (you can also order brown gravy). The steamed veggies were a little overcooked. Boyfriend's tuna steak was huge and cooked medium meant medium. It was good, but I would say medium rare for next time. Baked sweet potato was big and delicious and the onion rings were the right amount of crispy. Great food, good service--kept our iced teas filled. I was driving through New Bern and stopped by to get a bite to eat. The menu is pretty extensive, everything from burgers to ribs to sandwiches to pasta. I ordered a fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Absolute worst visit in a restaurant I have EVER experienced. Covid or no Covid.. short staffed or not... if a customer walks into your kitchen... you swallow the frustration and push all the negativity away... smile and say please leave the kitchen. ... NEVER could I have imagined that the management would allow their staff to act in such a way that put their customers in harms way. It started off with a female screaming at the top of her lungs about how short staff they were dropping the "f" bomb every-other sentence. A customer walks into the kitchen to ask for a salad and she loses her mind. Screaming at him, telling him to go to food lion. *everyone.... EVERYONE in the dining room heard the commotion. Including my 9 year old child! Then the customer sits back down and about 15 minutes goes by... the lady is still screaming in the kitchen and we could still hear everything from the dining room. Finally a larger black young male walks out into the dining room and points over to a table at the bar and then this scrawny older white male with white hair and wearing a (Carolina Grill shirt) looks at his (daughter) who was the one who was screaming in the kitchen... she says that it was the guy.... and this older guy started darting towards this man that was pointed out. Before we knew it there was a full on fight endangering everyone in there... my daughter was traumatized... ALL this at a family restaurant. Absolutely inexcusable. Good and reasonably priced food. We have been long-time customers (10 years or more) who visit the restaurant at least two times per week, on average. We had never had a prior complaint, we felt Carolina Grill would be one we could always depend upon. But when customers voice their concern about an incident, which happened repeatedly, the "manager" should not brush that complaint off and strongly defend his wait staff, while "loud-talking" that customer in front of other customers. We refused to "go there" with him. We politely paid our bill and left the restaurant. Customer service rule #1: Listen and investigate a customer complaint before taking a side. Especially if that side is clearly NOT that of the paying, faithful customers, but rather that of your employee. read more

The food is great! I was down on vacation and we went in to eat (3 of us) and just got absolutely terrible service. Our waitress was essentially running from the table as we were still ordering. My shrimp salad came out grilled instead of fried. My cousin ended up with lemon pepper scallops instead of salt, pepper, garlic. Couldn't get refills unless we talked to another waitress. Just absolutely felt like we were inconveniencing her by existing. Even with all the wrong stuff, it was delicious. I loved the hush puppies and the seafood was flavorful. Took some home to my son and he loved it so much we decided to give the to-go line another shot to actually get the flavors we wanted the next night. Essentially I'm in an abusive relationship with this restaurant. Everyone stares when you walk in and if you're under 40 you will be the youngest person in here. Y'all might remember this restaurant as "Ham's" of New Bern. We haven't been here since it switched over to "Carolina Grill" but the inside is identical....menu looks the same.Not sure what the deal is, but Looks like a duck....walks like a duck....must be a duck...with a new name. We were seated right away, saw a waitress right away, got our drinks right away......(Although I will say since this is called "CAROLINA GRILL" they should Probably SERVE Pepsi products, since this is the BIRTHPLACE of Pepsi-Cola .But they don't have Pepsi products). We ordered their house chips and ranch while we were waiting for our meal. Which are sliced thin potatoes and fried. Not bad. Our meal came ( we both ordered the "Philly cheese steak" ) and my friends order was all messed up. She ordered No Peppers just onions with the meat, and she got all peppers and no onions. I got both peppers and onions but they were all at one end of the bun and the meat was all at the other end! After readjusting the whole sandwich the verdict was...."nothing to write home about". The waitress was very helpful and attentive. It's the cook who must of had his nose in a book or something, because the restaurant was pretty darn empty to mess up an order like that. I have been to the New Bern area of NC several times, and always make it a point to go to Carolina Grill. This past time we were there three times over five days. I'm from New York, and we don't have many places that make house chips. This restaurant's chips are the best I've had, and their house made ranch is absolutely amazing. The menu isn't huge, but in my opinion I'd much rather see a smaller menu with well tested and great main dishes. We haven't had a bad meal here. The main dishes and sides are what I don't get in New York, which is a huge plus for me. Our server Ashley was particularly friendly and knowledgable of the menu. The bartender Michelle was exceptionally friendly, and introduced us to a great drink, Red Oak beer on tap with a sugar rim. There is always a young man at the door to open it for you, either entering or exiting. The atmosphere is very casual, they have multiple TVs to watch sports games. Simply put, if I lived in the area this would be a staple for me. No restaurant is perfect, but in my experience Carolina Grill goes the extra mile to ensure your experience is satisfactory, especially if you have a question or concern about your service/food. Any negative reviews are most likely from someone who ate there but didn't speak up if they weren't satisfied with their meal or service. read more

I thought I would update the reviews since there is only one current review from 3 months ago. We were told this restaurant was good so we stopped by. We had the fried seafood of shrimp, scallops, oyster and founder. Everything was very good, although I thought the fried founder tasted a little fishy. The shrimp, scallops and oysters were very good and fried perfectly. The hush puppies were awesome. It was a lot of food for the price and we ended up taking the left overs home to our pets so they could enjoy it too. Recommend Tyler as waiter. He was very attentive. read more
