Ate here the other day, the food was great but the wait was quite a bit longer than expected

Walk up counter for a weekday lunch. We were the only group with kids, it definitely has a men's lunch break vibe. The food was excellent, and the corn bread was fantastic! Not too dry, great flavor, not soggy. It felt a bit pricey for lunch, but it was good food, we didn't feel rushed, and the patio looked great. I was extremely impressed with how clean the dining area was. The owner and employees clearly take pride in their business! It is so nice to be able to not have to re-wash the table or booster chair before eating. The table and chairs were spotless Comfortable, good for conversation and enjoying a hearty meal. I saw so many amazing reviews and a spot on one of our local TV shows so I had high hopes. The lady working the front counter was helpful. We ordered the small combo platter they had on a board on the side. You choose 4 meats and get two sides. We stuck with the top 4 - Brisket, Tri-Tip, Ribs and Pulled Pork. My wife got the sweet cornbread and I tried their new smoked potato salad plus we added coleslaw. I loved the smoked potato salad, my wife, not so much. We both liked the coleslaw. The cornbread was almost OK. As for the meats, The tri-tip was really juicy and we enjoyed that. The ribs were OK. The pulled Pork was a bit dry as was the Brisket. I have been playing with BBQ on my grill with indirect heat and lots of apple and cherry wood smoke. Our expectations are to get something at least as good as what I do. Memorial Day weekend I borrowed my neighbor's smoker and tried Brisket for my first time. The Brisket turned out excellent with a good bark, smoke ring and juicy. My Pulled Pork is always juicy, has good bark, smoke ring and has lots of smoke flavor. After doing my own, this place and the prior one we went to were mediocre at best. I will stick to doing my own until I can find a place that rivals the stuff I see on BBQ Pitmasters series on TV. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but I have to say it was worse than what I expected. Unfortunately, this food did not come close to authentic barbecue. Chicken - without sauce it was just white and unseasoned Ribs - these were actually okay Brisket - weird flavor, too much fat, and didn't have that smoky flavor like good brisket often does Greens - not southern greens at all. Mostly stems and not seasoned Mac & cheese - ummm where is the cheese? It had good peppery flavor, but there was very little cheese and it was so dry Not only was the food not good, it was expensive. 2 entrees plus sides for over $60. Customer service is also very lacking. We had to wait over 40 minutes for a pick-up order, the woman giving out orders was rude, and they forgot a couple of our sides and sauces. I wanted to like the place but wasn't great. The BBQ sauce is good but everything else is lack luster. Meat is tender but lacking flavor. felt like BBq sauce was a must for these. This is a little shop and restaurant with good pulled pork. The cook I dealt with is clearly a North or South Carolina native, and this is his home cooking. The pulled pork was a tasty vinegar-based BBQ - the sauce is something you add to your preference, which is the way I like it. The sauce I tried (their hottest) was piquant but not all that hot - the emphasis on flavor rather than heat, again a good thing. The sides were standard southern sides (I didn't see hush puppies though): Sweet tea, slaw, corn-bread. The jalapeno corn-bread had corn kernels and peppers in it - the flavor was good, but the texture a bit to heavy and cake-like for my taste. The slaw was nothing special. And even though sweet-tea is a southern standard, I'm not a fan so I didn't try it. Bottom line: this is pretty good barbecue a long way from the south - and an unexpected success for Bothell. Apparently, they've won a bunch of awards ... I can see why, though for me, the good barbecue doesn't elevate this to a destination restaurant. read more

We were excited to try this place, but were super upset and disappointed by the lack of pandemic safety measures taken by the staff and management. When my roommate politely asked that the rep wear a mask, in line with the WA State mask mandate, he was treated not only disrespectfully, but was followed out of the store by an irate employee, insulting and berating him. It was a very upsetting experience and I cannot in good faith recommend you try this business. Please be safe folks. read more

The Carolina Smoke adorable food truck was the highlight of our HOA annual picnic this September, a new tradition to keep it COVID-safe. We will never go back to a potluck after this experience. The food truck team is top notch and treated our varied crowd like kings, gracefully serving over 85. People say it was our best community event ever. David's menu and team are superior. I checked out Carolina Smoke some years back, when they were located right next to Country Village in Bothell. The inside felt like I'd been dining at my best friends parents house back in the 90's, but hey...felt super homie and the food was awesome!! Now with Country Village to have closed, and replaced with apts, Carolina Moved to a new home very close by, in a newer setup which I have to still check out! I'd had very good brisket at CS, and some very good hot links too! Great great sauces, though for those who don't need or wish for such, the bare tender meat is delicious as is on it's own. Super great chef working the pit and serving, with a real friendly happy attitude. Great find, and now since they've moved, I'll bet the new location can fit a lot more hungry bbq fans like me :) read more

As I've passed by Country Village in Bothell on 527 (Bothell-Everett Highway) for the past few weeks, I've had the opportunity to notice signs indicating that a new BBQ place was coming to fill in the space previously held by a wine shop. I'm happy to say that The Carolina Smoke BBQ Shop opened on April 10, 2009, and those of you living in Bothell have a decent place to grab some tasty BBQ that's just around the corner. Occupying what must have been a rambler house at one time, The Carolina Smoke BBQ Shop offers a "welcome to our house" ambiance where the wood floored former living room serves as the primary dining area. The menu offers three sandwiches (pork, brisket, and hot link) and main courses of a half rack of baby-back ribs, chicken wings, or a hot link. Sides include cornbread, potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans. Soda, beer, and wine are available as well. My buddy and I went together on a pulled pork sandwich, a beef brisket sandwich, and a half rack of baby backs. We also had potato salad, beans, and cornbread. My favorite parts? The BBQ sauce (sweet, a touch of spicy and a touch of smoke, thick-but-not-too-thick-and-definitely-not-thin) and the cornbread (sweet and not too dry). The brisket and pulled pork were prepared nicely, but effectively got lost in the bun and sauce. The ribs were perfectly cooked, but needed the BBQ sauce to complete the experience. Service was a bit disorganized (as you'd expect from the second full day of being open for business), but friendly. You're going to pay about $9 for a sandwich and a side. Overall, it's great to have a new BBQ place in the neighborhood. I'll definitely be going back. read more

Absolutely staggeringly great sauce. It is a apple butter bbq sauce and is outrageous. The ribs are divine bovine! They are tender and juicy without falling off the bone. The pork pulled sand which is huge and succulent. We will be back! My hubby is a BBQ fanatic but not me so much! BUT.... I am a fan and the proof is all about that sauce. My hometown being in TN, I always have to pull into a place that claims good ol' southern BBQ. Inside was clean and quaint. Service was no frills but pleasant. It reminded me of home to hear the loud and happy banter between the customers who were obviously regulars and folks behind the counter. Now the food.... Portions... Seriously good meat. Our clan had brisket, ribs, and hot links and all were amazing. They know what they're doing when it comes to meat. My daughter and I decided it was the best BBQ we've ever had. Our sides were good but didn't knock our socks off like the meat did. We tried the Mac and cheese (it was a tad dry), cole slaw (not too sweet and not swimming in sauce, which is good), baked beans (outstanding, a bit spicy, which we like), cornbread muffin (extremely filling, could easily be shared, but I didn't love the consistency as it felt a little gummy), and collard greens (excellent--it had big chunks of meat in it). Oh, and we got banana pudding and chocolate chip-coconut-macadamia nut cookie. So yummy! We will be back, for sure. read more

I never realized that this place was a BBQ place looking across the parking lot from Safeway. Thought it was a smoke shop. Today, however, I was getting gas and noticed a BBQ sign on the side of the building that NO ONE sees, except if you happen by the gas station. I googled the place and read many glowing reviews and a few negative ones. My way of researching places is to read the critical ones to see if they are based on factual experiences, and that they are not just mad that something wasn't done fast enough, or was out of the worker's control. Reviews that say the meat is dry are really not subjective as the meat is either moist or dry. I should let this be a warning. Well, walking through the front door, the first test is the smell. is there smoke in the air. Passed with flying colors. I ordered the pulled pork and brisket with a side of Mac n Cheese, and a $3.95 generic soda with only one refill allowed. Well, I must of come on dry day. It blows my mind that someone could serve pulled pork that does not have juices dripping off of it. There was no flavor by its self. The BBQ sauces and an entire glass of soda helped get it down. The brisket has good flavor and was borderline tender/moist. I have made way better at home though. The Mac n Cheese was nothing to write home about either. Also quite dry and lacking flavor. My 20oz cola and one refill were refreshing enough. My regrets. I should have stopped trying to get the pork down and ask for at least a partial refund. I should have asked before leaving what day was moist day for everything so I could give this place another chance, but frankly, I don't think it would be worth coming back if they can't serve consistently. Great place after an afternoon of shopping. This place is located in Country village just south of the Canyon Park exit off the 405. Located right in the front of the frontier village style shopping complex there is plenty to do here. Best to start out with some great BBQ. The sausage is well spiced, the brisket has a great smoke ring, and the pulled pork is well smoked and very flavorful. The smoked Mac n Cheese is also very scrumptious. The sweet tea is a classic and very refreshing among the sauces you have to choose from. A small quaint place, the food is fantastic. This will be a normal stop from here on!! read more

Best in the Northwest. My husband, toddler, and I shared a platter and it was so much food for such a great deal! The pulled pork tasted a little like chicken (with 4 meat options I forgot we had gotten pork and not chicken), but it was still amazing with their sauces and the ribs, tri-tips, and brisket were on point. Surprised this place only has a 3.5 star rating. The food is amazing (I really like their brisket and their greens) and the owner and staff are extremely friendly. We tried to order here after reading reviews that they had gluten free items but when my husband went in, they told him the only thing gluten free was 1 bbq sauce. The lady he talked to had to ask someone in the back and another employee didn't even know what gluten was. So either other reviewers were mislead when they were told that some of their food is gluten free or the employees there lied to us or don't know what items are truly gluten free. I find it very hard to believe that everything except for 1 sauce contains gluten. It's a shame, we were excited to try this place. read more

If the owner is in a good mood and you're enjoying the food then you're having a lucky day, but if the owner is in a bad mood or good mood it doesn't matter you still cannot give him any criticism on anyting he will tear you up and kick you out...... Even if you say that the meat is a little dry or it's just an off-day he will yell at you in front of everyone and make you feel 2 ft high because he doesn't like anyone telling him negative things about has food, after spending $100 on food for two people and I just happen to say something to the lady that was working and she went and told the owner and he came out and made a big deal and a scene over it oh, and it wasn't the first time he's done this plus I've heard from others he has done it too many other customers oh, I'm very surprised he's still open. Went this past weekend and was disappointed. I had the sliced brisket sandwich...the meat was dry, no evident smoke ring, and more of just a fatty flavor overall for several dollars more than other quality bbq joints. The buns didn't hold up well either. I tried the baked beans as my side items and they were slightly burned/crusty from cooking too ling is my guess. The flavor on the beans was OK but not much more than from a can of baked beans at a grocery store. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and was equally disappointed with the dry meat he received. His side was the mac'n cheese which was pretty good. Service was very friendly though. Bummer was that my husband had wanted the ribs but they were out at 6pm on a Saturday. read more

OMG! If you like pulled pork this is the place to go! I brought a friend who is from NC and he is normally very picky about southern food made outside of the south (much like I am about NJ/NY foord) and he not only took home the leftovers, he also took a cupful of that delicious honey BBQ sauce. That BBQ sauce needs to be bottled ands old. I'd buy it, and I am not a sauce person. I had the pulled pork, mac and cheese and potato salad. The mac and cheese was quite tasty, as was the homemade potato salad. The meat comes without sauce so you can taste the flavor. I ate some of the pulled pork which was perfect alone, then tasted the sauce and added it. The idea is you add whatever sauce you like. I did not try the hot sauce on the table. The sweet tea was absolutely authentic. I've had it before but this was so tasty I drank it all. I must find out how to make it myself. I don't even use sugar in coffee or tea but this sweet tea was heavenly. I will defintely be back. I love me some pulled pork done right! Being puerto rican I know how pulled pork should taste and there aren't too many restaurants around here that make it well, except my kitchen. read more

The patato salad was good. Their signature apple sauce is sweet, so make sure you mix it with their spicy sauce if you like a more bold flavor. I go straight spicy sauce and its delicious. I have been going to Carolina since it first opened at Country Village quite a few years ago. I can't exactly remember now. I love everything about their BBQ. Love the pulled pork and the ribs. The brisket is the best I have had anywhere in Washington. It is outstanding. In fact, taking one of my grandsons there as a graduation treat from college. Just the too of us, this weekend. He wanted to go to Carolina and get the ribs! I don't think any of the sauces are exceptionally hot or spicy would be the only thing I would say I would like to see done. The Burning B, their hottest is tasty but I would like just a bit more kick and "pain" lol. I know a lot of folks don't think that way but some of us do. You can't go wrong eating there. read more

This place used to be really good I used to eat there all the time. Went there today for the first time in their new location and found the woman running the cash register was very rude and the pork ribs used to fall off the bone juicy and a really good smoke taste. But not today!! It was way undercooked 90% fat. I was very very disappointed after spending a hundred bucks. read more
