I found HP's Smokehouse BBQ food truck at Juanita Beach Park, and the food smelled delicious. Therefore, my boyfriend and I decided to try it for lunch and it wasn't too shabby. The BBQ was fine, yet it needs some tweaking. We ordered the ribs, cornbread, pulled pork sandwich and the sweet potatoes. Of all the food we ordered I liked the ribs the best. The meat was perfectly smoked and tender, so it's a shame that it's slathered in so much BBQ sauce. I'm a believer that if BBQ is good, then you don't need sauce to jazz it up, especially when it's slathered on. It only distracts from the true beauty of this dish, the meat. Such was the case with the pulled pork sandwich. Pork wasn't bad, but it had way too much BBQ sauce on the meat. Cornbread was sweet, and tasted like dessert. I'm allergic to cinnamon, so couldn't have the sweet potatoes. But my boyfriend said that it was definitely on the sweeter side since it was loaded with cinnamon. The food just seemed to have so much unnecessary sauce and/or seasoning on it, which took away from how good the dishes really were. It's nice to have this truck at Juanita Beach Park, an area you can spend all day in, so getting a meal here is convenient. But, I think the food would be even better without all the additional toppings and such. read more

I was drawn in at the end of a long day by some enthusiastic sign twirling and I'm so glad that drew me in. The owner, who's name I totally, regrettably, forgot to get, was super friendly, honest and exactly the type of person you'd want to be serving BBQ. I ordered a pulled pork, hot chick, spicy link and mac & cheese and it was allllll delicious. Typically I'm not a huge fan of BBQ sauce, but this was perfectly spicy/sweet/savory and the meat was perfectly cooked. GET THE POTATO SALAD AS YOUR SIDE IF YOU LIKE POTATO SALAD. Went to their food truck at a local farmer's market. I got the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad side. This is easily some of the best BBQ in Seattle. Pork was moist without being fatty, sauce has a nice smoky-sweetness to it (closest to a Kansas City style sauce in my opinion) and the amount added to the sandwich was perfect- it was enough for good flavor but not so much that it overwhelmed the pork flavor. The potato salad is very pickle-y which I liked but if pickles aren't your thing, probably best to choose another side. Portions were also perfect for the price point. I had the brisket, with a side of slaw and an order of baked macaroni and cheese. The brisket was tender but lacking in smoke. Moist enough but was sitting in sauce. Sauce was actually ok, but meat tasted reheated for $15, Chuck. Slaw was average. Not remarkable. Baked MAC and cheese for $6.00 small container is a solid ripoff. There really isn't anything to say about overcooked pasta in congealed cheese. Well I would like to say I hope that fad dies ASAP. All in all I paid $21. We tried them in Woodinville at the tasting rooms, I was very impressed with the presentation and service. We had the pulled pork and Mac and cheese, both were up to the standards of good southern BBQ which considering we're in Washington is pretty damn good. Get your red hot MICROWAVED barbecue here! I kid you not, he grabbed the pork out of a cooler and microwaved it, before my eyes..... and yet, i tried it again.... and again. Even his front loaded bun (looks stuffed when you get it til you eat nothing but bun on the part that's wrapped in paper. I was hard up for barbecue, chose to forgive him, and was betrayed 2 more times. I just tried his barbecue for the final time today at the car show in Kirkland. I don't get how this place has 4.5 stars. 3 times over the last year I've tried it and it's just ... bad. Everything about this food truck rocks. The meat is smoky, flavorful, and surprisingly not as heavy as typical BBQ. The prices are a bit steep, but nothing can beat the convenience. I did not care for this place. I ordered the brisket for 14 dollars and even ordered an extra side for 2 dollars more. Then I saw the microwave in the truck was in constant use. When I did get my order there was so little food I thought there might have been a mistake. The brisket was covered in sauce that had a very unpleasant aftertaste that took a while to eliminate from my mouth. It was burnt or bitter tasting. I suspect it may have contained fake smoke flavoring or such. The sides I got were cole slaw and potato salad and both were tasteless other then the large pickle chunks in the potato salad. I am definitely in the "Yay! I'm a fan" club. I've followed HP's on Facebook since I moved to this area, yet never managed to visit until today. This check-in/review shows them at Juanita Beach but they also routinely set up shop at the Finn Hill QFC on Juanita Drive. A sunny Friday with just me and my oldest daughter bit of spontaneity found us here for lunch. I am the best mom, ever. We decided to go ALL THE HELL OUT, and ended up ordering pretty much the entire menu, which was: MEAT: Pulled pork sandwich Hot link Beef brisket Baby back ribs (3) SIDES: cole slaw yummy yams potato salad corn bread DESSERT: peach cobbler Like I said, we went ALL OUT, and were completely stuffed and went home leftovers to nibble later. The sauce is just fantastic. Not too thick, just a bit sweet, with a nice little kick at the end but easily palatable for anyone who doesn't want too spicy. Everything was good but a few things just stood out for me, personally: RIBS: nice char on the outside, beautiful deep smoke flavor, VERY meaty and not over-sauced YAMS: OMG, a revelation of creamy, cinnamony, buttery little cup of yummy. PEACH COBBLER: Didn't appear to be fresh peaches (not in season, so natch) but somehow, this warm, gooey little dessert had a savory quality to it in the crumble top that I can't quite place but was super delicious. The rest: POTATO SALAD: good, very pickle and celery heavy, but excellent. Potatoes were perfectly done for a salad. COLE SLAW: we ordered right as they opened so the bin was super full, so our portion was a little dry (I kind of like my cole slaw sloppy and wet) but it was very tasty. Nice pepper hints in it that I liked. HOT LINK: Well seared, drenched in their great sauce on a bun. Would definitely order again. PULLED PORK: beautifully smoked, chopped/pulled into little bits, with plenty of sauce on a bun. Get twice as many napkins as you think you'll need, then 5 more. BRISKET: ample portions, well sauced, carry the smoke flavor well. Slices were inconsistent in size (some were really thick, some thin). Not as melty/tender as one would dream for in a brisket. CORN BREAD: Dense, spongy and a little crumbly. Solid side. Not overly sweet. Would be best heated up or in a smaller portion (unless you have milk or something else to break up the crumbly/dense your eating) Service: SUPER nice and fun folks, who have a lot of love and passion going into their food and their little truck. Value: We had pretty much the entire menu (except the chicken), all the sides, a dessert and a soda plus tip for $45. The ENTIRE menu. Great value, priced well for the food truck genre, you could easily have a filling, tasty lunch for a 10-spot here. I will definitely be back to their regular haunts for some more. read more

We sampled everything on their menu at a recent Kenmore summer concert. The pulled pork was delicious, the hot link tasty and our kids were fighting over who would get the most baby back ribs. They were that good. The sides are yummy - the peach cobbler is to DIE for. So, so, so good. My family is from the South so I have high expectations on BBQ in general, but desserts in particular. The peach cobbler ranked right up there with the best my grandmother ever made! We liked the food so much we asked to have HP's cater a birthday party recently. Every guest found at least one thing (and usually 3 or 4) to rave about. Quality, tasty meats, great sides, and, of course, that peach cobbler.
