I have eaten here twice. Once at the counter (not busy) and once in the dining room area (busy that morning). It's amazing how the waitresses can ignore you! They have an unbelievable ability to make you feel invisible. They make you wait for coffee, wait to order, lonnnggg wait for food with no explanation or coffee refill. I watched another patron wait for a simple beverage for far too long. He got disgusted and left. Instead of feeling happy that I came, I start the day happy to leave and try to forget how annoying the whole experience was. Some waitresses will get ambitious and grab the coffee pot to do refills but it seems it's haphazard (yup.. no coffee for us) or maybe it's just for regulars?!?! Who knows? They've had 2 chances.. Before visiting Troy, I did exhaustive searching for a good breakfast place. Nothing turned up that was better than the greasy spoons I knew from 50 years ago. Then, driving down Pawling Ave., I spotted this clean-window double-storefront place with many cars in front. Gave it a try. Was EXTREMELY pleased with Carol's Place. The restaurant portion is next to the Pizza & Subs shop. Very informal, very pleasant staff. The eggs and bacon were the best I've had in two months of eating eggs out almost every day the past two months. Decor is a long counter and many tables. Yes, the staff is ultra-cordial to the many very regular customers, but they've never seen me before and I couldn't hope for any better service. They are open fro 6 or 7AM until 2PM, then 4PM until 11 or 12 for dinner. Daily specials are on a chalkboard. Bacon, eggs, toast are $5.99 . The home-baked rolls and coffee cakes look great (not on my diet :={{{ ). read more

I would have liked to try this place this morning because I heard the food was good. I first called to place a breakfast order and was put on hold for over ten minutes. I decided they must be busy and I will go place an order and take it home. I got to the restaurant and probably could've went to the front counter and order breakfast from the bar but there was such a line I decided to wait until someone came and talked to the people waiting to be seated. After 15 minutes I decided to leave because not one person came to address the line waiting to eat. I have yet to try Carol's and plan to never do so. The breakfast here is amazing. When I go in on Sundays I love the different specials that they have on different french toasts, waffles, etc. I have never been disappointed. It's family ran which is appreciated. Love it! Parking could improve for seniors in the area, as there isn't much close/handicapped parking. read more

This was our first time at Carol's Place. It was great!!! We had no idea what we were in for and definitely over-ordered. Great food great atmosphere. I appreciate "diners" that are well maintained and have food that isn't super greasy! Carol's has a ton of different breakfast options - omletes, egg sandwiches, egg wraps, breakfast pizza, pancakes, french toast etc. They have delicious 'signature omletes.' I always get "the farmer" .. bacon sausage potatoes and cheddar. SO good. How did I neglect to review Carol's after eating their pizza growing up and visiting every time I come home to Troy? I LOVE this place! The pizza is ridiculously good and the customer service is great! I jipped them a star on account a we did take out so I cannot speak for service, atmosphere or cleanliness. What I can tell you is that this place is the home of the best calzone I have ever eaten! Creamy flavorlicious ricotta, thin tasty crust (which I've never happened across with a calzone!) And mozz that was so freaking fresh it had a slight squeak which indicates it was likely made in house and same day! The only complaint I have is that the sauce was definitely a meat sauce rather than marinara, which really sucks when it sneaks up on a vegetarian. I have enjoyed some of the menu at Carols, but it can be very hit or miss. Today I ordered the shrimp and crab Louie, the Philly wrap, and the beef nachos. The Philly wrap was fine. The beef nachos were soggy and not at all appetising. There was not a lot of cheese and they just didn't taste good. The menu did not say that the nachos have jalapeños. The Louie used imitation crab, and was seasoned so sweetly as to remind me of applesauce. It was not at all a good sandwich. I have ordered delivery from Carols on several occasions. I have had the same delivery driver every time. This time, my boyfriend had to physically show him on the ticket where the delivery instructions are. I am in school dorms, and they don't have their own addresses. However, I always leave very specific instructions for the drivers because I know it can be confusing. Every time I have ordered, the delivery driver has not read the instructions, and has screamed at me both over the phone and in person about how it's rude and a waste of his time. Just called for some delivery.It's almost 12 noon, figured I'd treat my daughter to a cold sub, but was told on the phone that they didn't have any bread until the dinner time which is around 4pm.The girl said the bakery doesn't deliver until that time. Have been to "The Eatery" at Carol's Place many times and have enjoyed all the foods that I have ordered. The Hot Turkey Sandwich with Mashed Potato's & Grilled Veggies & Dressing & Cranberry Sauce smothered with Gravy is to die for ! Pancakes & Soups & Wraps & Burgers are succulent and Dessert's are very tasty ! Prices are very reasonable and food is always delivered hot and very tasty. Sweet Potato Fries are a great upgrade. My husband and I checked this place out of weekend for brunch. Carol's has a very cozy vibe and friendly service. The dining room is decorated with knick knacks and has lots of bookshelves. It's cute and quirky. I ordered an omelette with toast and homefries. My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict. My breakfast was pretty standard, and Carol's did a good job. Eggs were cooked to my liking and overall everything was tasty. Nothing mind blowing, but it was satisfying. My husband enjoyed his Eggs Benedict. He was a big fan of the english muffins they used, and the waitress was kind enough to go hunt down the brand info for him. We first sampled Carol's at a fundraising event. It was good enough to make us order from them. Carol's is a thick crust, which is a nice alternative. It's almost more bread like. They have a nice sauce. I like the varieties. Only downside to Carol's is the parking if you pick up. We'll be back. read more

Great little place for breakfasts and lunch. 5 dollar Friday? How could we get so lucky? I got a breakfast sandwich with ham, egg and cheese. Great bread, toasted just right. Gooey cheese melting out the side of a perfectly cooked egg with a nice cut of ham. Yummy! My boyfriend got an omelet-said two eggs but looked like 4. Very big. Perfectly cooked. Thumbs up! We did pizza take out for dinner-the same day! Since the boyfriend is a native to Troy he already new, but the pizza was very good. I've had only the pizza, and think it is easily one of the top 5 best pizza's I've ever eaten! Great crust, sauce and cheese. I ask to "go easy on the cheese, please" as all pizza makers put more cheese on a pie than I like. The olive oil drips onto my hand while I enjoy the aroma from the pie... The service is laid back, not pretentious which may account for some of the negative service reviews. The pizza side seems very busy whenever I've been there... Now that Carol's daughter Anita is trying to run things the place is not the same, the food is only so so and it would appear that she is more interested in flirting with all the men that come into the place than making sure that the food is well prepared. Went for breakfast, it was busy, but I've seen this place a lot busier. We got a table in 30 seconds. We sat for 10 minutes waiting for a waitress to even get a cup of coffee. I am a big one on service and this comfy place gets 5 stars for it - could not have been nicer! Stopped here after the flower show at Hudson Valley - I don't know Troy too well but saw this place once and read about it in the Advertser - it has been there for 30 years so it must be good - and it was. We enjoyed homestyle food in a cozy atmosphere - you enter the diner part through the pizza place which is kind of odd but is very friendly and welcoming in the eatery part. They were doing a fundraiser for Kelly's Angels which is for kids who lost a parent or caregiver and they had raffle items you could put tickets in bags for. They seem very community minded. We loved the grilled cheddar sandwiches and the delicious potato salad. A great family-friendly place with solid homey fare - my mom is a senior citizen and they were so kind to her. If I lived nearby,I would go here often - it is a hot turkey sandwich kind of place. Nothing fancy or pretentious- just tasty. read more

I'm a regular at Carol's for breakfast. My girlfriends and I go frequently. (In my mind it's our Upstate version of Sex and the City meeting for breakfast and catching up with each other...ok a stretch of the imagination? Yes...LOL) The food is delicious. Some times are busier than others, in particular $5 Friday's. Friendly Waitstaff, we love Casey and Melissa, they are great and one of my friends is high maintenance (I mean sky high....unnecessarily high) when it comes to food. I've told her she needs to eat at home with all of those specifications with her order. I'm the opposite...or so I think! Ha! I hear they have good pizza. I'm stuck on the breakfast. I wouldn't come here without your patience. It's not an in and out place unless you order their takeout. I enjoy spending time with my friends and chatting so this works for us. It's a smaller establishment with a very town-like vibe. It's a little off the beaten path. Their specials are delicious so check the board. They also serve gluten-free bread, which a plus for me. Went online to check Carol's Place catering menu and when I found that it was a 2014 price list, I decided to call. The person with whom I spoke (Anita?) already sounded annoyed when she answered the phone. When I explained that I was looking for an updated catering menu/price list, she told me that they were updating it for January and that the prices hadn't changed that much..."maybe $5", she said. Then as I started to ask a 2nd. question, she informed me that she was on another call. I quickly asked if they had gluten free pasta options. She quickly answered, "yes"; and when I asked if there was an additional charge for that option, she responded, "well, of course!" When I wanted to know how far in advance of my event I needed to call, she said they won't be taking too many more catering orders right now and when I indicated that my event was at the end of January, she told me she would be away at the end of January! Really??? So I guess my business is not wanted at Carol's Place...that's how it seemed, anyhow!!! read more

Placed my order at 8 am on a Sunday and haven't received my food two hours later. Called and was put on hold and they never picked back up.

Never order delivery from here. Unfortunately I had to give them one star. First off it's always an hour delivery time which I always hope they'll arrive early. Instead when I ordered at 10:55am I didn't receive my order until 1pm. After calling carols place asking about my order over an hour after the promised delivery time I finally called and told them I would like to cancel my order. Not to mention the first time I called which was over an hour after the food was supposed to arrive I was told it was just sitting there waiting for the delivery guy to get back after his first 5 deliveries. It was only then that my order arrived. Now not only was it cold as ice but my eggs were very obviously microwaved, I got 3 whole pieces of spinach, my hollandaise sauce was a solid. We ordered 2 sides of bacon, we got one. The toast at that point was about as soggy as it gets. And they forgot a few more key ingredients such as salsa on a Spanish omelet. read more

The first time I ordered food from them, it arrived in a large paper bag with handles. The food was neatly stacked and everything I needed was included such as ketchup packets, napkins, plastic ware. However, the last two times I ordered, the food arrived cold, french fries soggy, no condiments, and everything was tossed into small paper bags. While Carols has been a "go to" for me and my wife for a number of years, we recently had an experience that has caused us to write this review, and will impact the frequency with which we order. After ordering via EatStreet we waited an hour and 30 minutes for our pizza (eat street had given us an hour estimate). My wife called to see if there had been any issues with the order and was treated very rudely. The disgruntled gentleman on the other end of the line told her that the EatStreet time estimate is not accurate, that they dont necessarily start food prep when the order is placed (when do they start it? When they feel like it?). His general manner was dismissive and demeaning. Honestly, if they had just said "sorry, we are really busy tonight" I wouldn't be writing this review. This gentleman's poor attitude is unacceptable in the service industry. 2 hours after we placed our order we received our pizza. It was delicious. read more
