My first time experience was great from beginning to end! The clinic was very clean and nice. Jeanne and Dr. Mai were both very friendly and personable. I had a great experience. Their office is a little hard to find if you're not familiar with the Honolulu area, but the address online and on yelp is correct if you utilize maps. It's located in the same building on the second floor as Hawaii's Finest Clothing. The staff are pleasant and knowledgeable. The ambiance of the office is very calm and chić. I came about 15 minutes early as recommended because I was a first time client. I recommend you do the same as well if it's your first time. I got a groupon for Botox. I have yet to see my full potential for results they said it would take about two weeks, but so far so good. It was fast, painless, and they went through the procedure with me step by step. They also gave me a little care taking informational paper for me to reference to, which is helpful because it was my first time getting botox done. They do have a service charge fee for groupon it's only $8. They validate parking if you park behind their building, it's a $1. They accept credit card, MasterCard, Visa, and debit. I honestly woke up this morning excited to get to my appointment with Dr. Mai. It is always a great experience from the minute I walked in the door to her office Kristin the aesthetician is so warm and welcoming I felt right at home. Kristin worked diligently to schedule my appointments for fillers - which I had booked separately - back to back and sooner than I had expected making everything so much easier for me as I have my one day off from work today. Dr. Mai is the only one I trust to make sure I put my best face forward as she is a true artist and her technique is so unique I hardly ever feel the slightest discomfort at all. Needles? What needles? She is that awesome. Over the years she's done my Botox, juvederm, belotero, and kybella. I am always truly grateful when I leave her office confident that I look and feel my best. Dr. Mai is incredible! She makes the whole visit so easy and the results are fantastic. Plus, the office is beautiful and parking is easy.

Let's preface this by saying I am NOT used to paying US prices for services offered by Dr. Mai. I normally take a bi-annual trip to my mothers motherland to refresh myself (pun intended) and suck it up during down time. It just so happened that my Botox from February was wearing off and I couldn't bear to look at myself any longer in the mirror, so I had a coworker schedule a consult and appointment. It definitely wasn't the easiest to find but I knew the building as it's in Koreamoku. I should have looked it up or waited for my coworker but of course, that went out the window and I just winged it. I found it and her assistant? I'm assuming opened the door, introduced herself and had me sat getting some paperwork out of the way, easy peasy. My coworker then comes and we both go in together to get a consultation - don't stick more than one Korean because the consultation took almost half an hour alone for me. Are we doing this filler, should we change to that brand, should we do it in conjunction with Botox, should we not get it, and it was just a hot mess - eventually I settled for more Restalyne and Botox, while my coworker got Vollure and Botox. It really was different from Asia, from A to Z. No topical anesthetic - she uses a frozen balloon covered in a plastic baggy for hygienic purposes and briefly numbs the area she will inject. It hurt, but surprisingly not as much as I thought. She said she's "light" with the injections and indeed she was. I also learned with fillers she does not inject in the tip of the nose, I forgot the reason why. My coworker got her injections and maybe because of the lighting and the angle where I was sitting I actually was perceptive enough to notice Dr. Mai missed a spot! Too bad that didn't count for a freebie session. Thanks to my coworker I enjoyed meeting Dr. Mai and getting a lunchtime procedure to rejuvenate this aging face. I'd do it again in a heartbeat but the US is too expensive! read more

Switched location after booking. This place is not in Waikiki, and they will not refund you if you can out make it 30 mins further than you were expecting to go. Did not mention new appointment location until after charging card and then argued it's non refundable. They literally laughed at us multiple times and said it was non refundable. read more

This is a great place to go if you want a complex, and might already not have one. I left feeling like I needed to re-do my entire face and hands and everything else. I bought a Groupon for a botox treatment - it was my first, and had no idea what to expect. I really didn't know where on my face to get botox, but figured somewhere around my eyes or forehead where I have some wrinkles (going on 40). She told me that the "11s" between my eyebrows might be best place to work because I had a small forehead. Fine, I'm great with a good recommendation. However, she then started picking me apart and making me feel like total doo-doo. She asked how old I was and put her arms/hands up to mine to prove her skin was better than mine and said she was 10 years older. Not the best approach - actually, a terrible approach for a customer-centric business. She also said I could use some fillers above my lips, but might make it difficult for me to snorkel or do anything else with that muscle. I actually have decent lips (she thought I had fillers), so was taken aback by all of these suggestions. The short story is that botox was not that impressive (not sure if it was Dr. Mai's technique/dosage or just generally speaking), but it sucked that she made me feeling worse than when I came in. Would not go back, even with a Groupon. in fact, might need the next Groupon for a psych visit. read more

Not impressed one bit! I showed up on time and Dr. Mai was running around like crazy, had no idea she had one more appointment before lunch (which was all she kept saying is that I was cutting into her lunch) and because she ran late and took more than 30 minutes I had to pay for 30 minutes of my parking because she didn't fully validate and cover it! Now, the Botox. She fills syringes in another room and I'm quite sure she's not using the best product, maybe diluted. I used a Groupon and she sucked me into 8 more units then charged approximately $20/unit because she said she loses so much on Groupon and has to charge that much for extra. LIE! I've gotten Botox for years, I have plastic surgeon friends and med sales friends so nice try. I've NEVER needed more than 40 units, it was all a scam. I wake up the next day to extreme bruising which eventually goes away. The work is not good though. I go in to get the half of my forehead fixed that she missed but it made no difference. I give up at this point, diluted product and poor work. It's true what they say, if you try to go the cheap route you get cheap results. I'll never return and I'd suggest you save the trip and not waste your time and money either. read more

I am writing this review in order to provide helpful information to others doing their research on Botox and particularly interested in MD Refresh. My background: I'm a clinical hospital pharmacist and have worked in the hospital setting for over 10yrs, this is relevant because in essence, I am the drug expert and have alot of experience with injectables. Even Botox. First of all, I saw Dr. Mai prepare the syringes and she is doing it correctly and using standard procedures. The Botox she uses is manufactured by Allergan which is the leading, reputable manufacturer for Botox (I saw the bottle and the box). Secondly, Botox is meant to be diluted in sodium chloride 0.9% in order to give the correct concentration for intramuscular injection. Point being, the dilution is part of standard/correct procedure and it doesn't mean that you're not getting what you paid for. (In fact, if the drug is not being diluted with sodium chloride 0.9% then that's when you got to wonder because that's not per manufacturer guidelines.) The injections did not hurt and I had a great overall experience. I felt very comfortable talking to Dr. Mai and feel that she's a great listener and very sweet! I loved her receptionist too! Her prices on Botox are excellent (I did my research). I would not be alarmed with the previous review on Yelp stating that the product is faulty or over diluted. This is just absolutely not true. I would not write a review stating this if I had my doubts about the product or the service. I recommend MD Refresh and will be returning :) Thank you Dr. Mai!! read more

I have tried numerous over the counter dark spot treatments eg. Clinique, Estee Lauder, ProActiv, etc and they didn't work one bit and some caused me to break out so I figured it was time for laser treatment. I was tempted to go with the groupon type places or the ones that offered cheaper deals but I did a lot of online research since this was my face we were talking about and some of the reviews I read about other places that help with skin care were scary and mentioned bad burns or pain, etc. Dr. Mai was the only one that had only good reviews and so I had a consultation and she was as wonderful as the reviews said. She's a one-woman shop, no receptionist etc...so she was running around trying to do it all but she is thorough and gives you honest advice about what treatment she thinks is best for you. I thought I had melasma but she told me it was sun damage. I had requested laser treatment because I thought it'd be the quickest most effective way but she was honest and told me because the damage was so isolated to one spot and so dark, that I would have to go numerous laser treatments to see any results and that it would be very expensive that way and that she knew I wouldn't be happy with the slow pace. She ended up recommending I try a milder, less expensive treatment first and then maybe go with laser treatment if it didn't work. She doesn't try to talk you into the most expensive method, she really tries to look at your situation and seems to truly care about what's best for you and your budget. She uses the products that she prescribed me and showed me how to apply it. I've been using it for a little over 4 months and the results have been just what I was hoping for. All the little spots are pretty much gone and the one big dark sun spot is 30% of how dark and big it was before. read more

Professional, Friendly and Knowledgeable! I first visited Dr. Mai because of the Botox Groupon. I was impressed with the time she spent beforehand making sure that she would be targeting the problem areas that I was most concerned with. I had used a Botox Groupon before with another office and I felt rushed and was in and out of there in flash. Dr. Mai took her time and made me feel comfortable and my issues were heard and addressed. I was so pleased with the results and my overall experience that I went back for continued treatments. I also got one of her signature facial creams that promotes collagen production. I absolutely love how it feels on my skin and am excited to see continued results. Another plus... her office is near Ala Moana and there is ample parking right outside of the building and of course, she validates parking for you. Had my followup-maintenance Venus Freeze Treatment this morning: my skin feels smooth, glowy,glistening,softer already! Had the serum massaged in at the end -So Relaxing. [NOTE: this office is now called MD Refresh and is still run by Dr. Mai] I called the office and had all my questions answered politely and professionally over the phone. The building is on a little street by Ala Moana Shopping Center, and they made sure I knew how to get to the building and - most important in that area - where the parking for the building was.
