Sweet sweet aroma. You can smell this place all down the wharf. They make their own candies. Everything I have tasted is delicious. The salt water taffy is to die for. Super cute candy shop on the wharf! Went in today for some sweet treats and a boba and was not disappointed. Service was fast and friendly. I got the honeydew boba which was refreshing. Tried a new candy (chocolate covered caramel popcorn) and it was delicious. Left with a big bag of taffy and a bag of chocolate covered goodies. Love this place I come back for the camel corn , love the new bobba teas . Amazing , I feel as costumer service improved more smiling welcoming faces . Although I was a bit upset . I was at the candy store . Beautiful Halloween Decoration by the way , and I saw a young lady getting yelled at by this man not sure if he was the "manger/boss" not acceptable . I feel as if you have a problem with your employee you should speak to them , take them to the back or wait till closing time to talk to them not yell at them In front of costumers . Carousel Candies is a a landmark for the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf! Many of my childhood memories are infused with the smells of their sweet and delicious treats. Although, I no longer live in the Monterey area, I was able to receive a taste of home through the mail. I placed an order from their website and received it a few days later. Let me tell you, it was just as delicious as I remembered. The management, Lloyd and Sindy are so sweet and personable. What an asset to the community, they are. The fruit flavors - like lemon, mango, orange, or peach - are closest to achieving the real thing, although I dare you to try the eggnog and not start humming 'Jingle Bells' in the middle of July. For me, this staple of seaside resorts conjures pleasant memories of childhoods spent in Coney Island, although in those days it cost a lot less than $9.95 per pound. The smell of caramel popcorn being made at this place reminds me of those old beach boardwalk candy shops.. Kind of a small cramped shop. They have some old machines pulling taffy, popping popcorn, and making cotton candy. They also sell different kinds of fudge, brittle, and dipped fruit. Big variety of candied and caramel apples: oreo cookie, s'mores, rocky road.... Looked tempting, but my teeth were starting to hurt looking at them. Settled for the salt water taffy and some fudge. Best candy I've ever tried! The taffy is incredible delicious and made by scratch. The popcorn is so tasty and great. The ice cream is fresh and creamy. All the employees are so nice and have a great smile and very are helpful. Came to celebrate my daughters 17th birthday and all my family loved this place, I totally recommend it and hope you all can try it. Best in the whole wharf no candy tasted like theirs. All I can say is "Candy, candy, candy everywhere!" This place was great! As soon as you walk in you get hit with the smell of delicious candy and you just want to eat it all until you get a tummy ache. My friend and I walked over after a big dinner on the wharf and decided to grab some treats for the ride home back to Sacramento. We grabbed a few chocolates, gummy candies, and even caramel apples. Kind of a fun store with a variety of candies. I bought 3 fudge squares, which were huge - 3x3 in, for a friend. Can't say what it tasted like since I didn't try any. They're celebrating their 40thn anniversary. The sales girl was nice enough to wrap the squares in plastic wrap and then a cardboard container and into a bright pink bag. The smell from this place is intoxicating. It's a mixture of fresh roasted nuts covered in sugary goodness, popcorn, and salt water taffy. They make lots of enticing sweets here but I usually only get the salt water taffy. Lots of great flavors and they are all wonderful. The only thing that's annoying about this place is that it is very small and usually very, very crowded. read more

I agree with other reviewers regarding the customer service from the employees here. I wasn't given a happy greeting, or as I've experienced in other candy stores, offered a sample, or asked what I was shopping for. After getting past the indifferent attitude of the employees, I was delighted to see their large selection of sugar free candy options. I would have liked to know what kind of sugar was in the candies as not all sugar free sugars are created equal. Nonetheless, I purchase 2 of every sugar free option. This included sugar free peanut butter cups, sugar free peppermint patties and sugar free haystacks, to name a few. The establishment itself is quiet cute. A classic candy shop vibe that reminds my of the Old Fashion fashion candy shops from before my time. Overall, I spent about $20 on an assortment of sugar free candies and was not disappointed. They all tasted so fresh and I did not have the sometimes overbearing artificial sugar taste. I will definitely visit this candy shoot the next time I am in Monterey and look forward to trying their candy apples when I do return. Hopefully, there will be more friendly employees. This place is adorable with plenty of sweets for those with the craving. I got a caramel apple and it came out to only $2.95. I thought it was going to cost at least $5 since its in a tourist area and that's about how much it cost in SF. My bf agreed to share the apple with me since I couldn't finish it, but his idea of sharing (3/4 being his) and my idea of sharing(1/2 being his) isn't the same. So to be on the safe side, just get 2. The staff was friendly and helped us cut the apple and placed it in a container to carry out. It may be a bit hectic since the shop isn't very big and there were a lot of people, but I would come again for a caramel apple and maybe other sweets. read more

I came here to get some treats. The thing that stood out to me was their selection of salt water taffy. It's a little expensive, but if you buy 2 half pound bags at $6.99 each, you get the 3rd for free. I got 2 bags of Sea Salt Caramel, and had the 3rd one be a custom mix of raspberry and strawberry. The raspberry was okay, but the sea salt caramel was PERFECT. It was just the right amount of sweet and salty, and the texture was chewy, but not overly so. That being said, this place really needs to find a system for taking orders. I get that the shop is small, but there needs to be ropes or something to show where the line starts and ends. People were cutting left and right, and it was just a madhouse. I've read some reviews about the employees being rude, but the ones that were helping me weren't too bad (it was the customers that they were helping who were bad). I would try this place again the next time I visit, maybe try the popcorn and other treats, but I'd really like to see some improvement in organizing the customers, so to say. + Good and authentic (homemade I believe) taffy -long, unorganized lines. First of all, I only go to the wharf on weekdays or when my friends come to town, I will keep a stiff upper lip and go on weekends. I do not dig crowds. 4 stars for the smell alone. So many times I have been to the wharf, I smell garbage, especially near the end. Yuck! But this place's odor makes it all better once you are walking back. Once you are inside, there isn't a lot of space and these guys are busy. I suggest buying a bag of saltwater taffy and getting the hell out. Or maybe some ice cream. Still haven't tried any of the many varieties of chocolate covered apples. It just doesn't sound good, but they are a popular item. read more

The staff working behind the counter was honestly quite rude. Came here a while ago with my mom and aunt. My aunt couldn't hear very well, so she asked that one of the girls repeat what she said... she did, but with a lot of attitude. I think I saw an eye roll too! I usually always stop by here for some delicious caramel apples, but the last couple of times I've stopped by my apples have been way too tart. I honestly don't like their customer service whatsoever and I honestly think they need to work on their customer service. I mean I've gone in there on the weekdays and weekends and their employees always seem so miserable. I'm really angry at the staff here. We ordered over $60 worth of fudge and other sweets, and requested to add one of the small fresh Carmel corn they were selling. They ring us up then say that because we spent over 30 we get a small fresh Carmel corn for free. And when I asked why the Carmel corn we just added couldn't be free then she would only repeat. I've been coming here since I was a kid in the 70's. I still love to get the carmel corn and the carmel apples. I guess I like carmel. The taffy is 2 for 1. It can get really crowded in the tourist months but the wait is worth it. I liked that the employee offered to cut up my apple so I could eat it easily. Always will be back. read more

I have a love affair with Carousel Candies. To me, this is what a candy store should look like: An antique taffy pulling machine in the window, checkered tile floor, and filled to the brim with candy, caramel corn and caramel apples. For me, it started with the caramel corn. It's made right there and you can taste the freshness. It's the gold standard in my book. The English toffee, salt water taffy and sea salt caramels are also excellent. The store itself I find fun and funky. It gets super crowded, which lends an excitement factor. Like the wharf surrounding this place, it is loud and messy and overwhelming. However, you just cannot walk past it without taking a peek b/c the smell of sugar is enticing enough to make a diabetic slip into a coma with one whiff. Their peanut butter cup was very yummy and their caramallow - yes, you read correctly - was out of control. It doesn't get much better than marshmallow and caramel covered in milky milk chocolate. They also offer and extensive amount of candy apples covered with everything from cheesecake to you name it, it's on them. I'm not into apples but they looked really good. Nothing like a bag of salt water taffy to make you feel like you're on vacation. We stopped off at Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf on a recent visit to the aquarium for the sole purpose of procuring some candy. It was nice to take a stroll and get some fresh air after the 75-minute car ride too, but it was candy we were looking for. Carousel Fine Candy drew us in with it's candycane-striped awning and sugary scents wafting out the door. Some sour gummies for the 8-year-old (don't tell the orthodontist), a candy watch for the 2-and-a-half-year-old and some salt water taffy for the mom equals three happy faces. I ended up buying a few items I hadn't planned on because everytime I turned around the little one was licking something. I would recommend putting little ones in their strollers to come into this shop. Our candy parade almost got rained on as we roamed around the wharf munching on sweets when a little girl saw my kids eating candy and remarked to her mother that it wasn't healthy and her mother concurred, while directing a "look" at me. Then I reminded myself that we were on vacation and that made everything okay again. read more

I enjoyed this little candy store located on Fisherman's Wharf. It's got old school candy machines like taffy pullers and cotton candy machines. It's really small and there was a line of people. My wife got some caramel popcorn and loved it. The taffy was good if a little expensive, but it's even more expensive if you walk further down the pier. Fun stuff. read more
