We were looking to get out and walk a bit on a cold Saturday afternoon, so we went to the American Dream Mall and walked until we worked up an appetite and found Carpaccio. Service here was great today with servers constantly looking after the table, and the downside was the menu has changed slightly (more expensive) and the dishes are slightly different. Dined on a quiet, rainy, Thursday night. Party of 8, we had a 6:45 reservation. The host was MIA, it took a minute for them to seat us and then a while for a waiter to come to our table. The restaurant was fairly quit so not sure why the service was slow, everything from the water to the dessert was delayed. On to the food- the Manzo Parmigiano and fried calamari for apps were very good, perfect sharing portions. For entree I had the chicken Parmesan which was large and delicious however it should have came with a side of pasta as opposed to the hospital grade mashed potatoes and bland steam veggies (broccoli & carrots). My sister ordered the branzino which was on the specials menu, the waiter came back and told her it was no longer available, she opted for the capellini with shrimp, the pasta was very good in a light spiced sauce, the shrimp however were inedible, very fishy. The waiter was apologetic for the slow service stating they were short staffed (this is my second time at this location and both times the service was super slow), he brought us 3 complimentary desserts. We had an absolutely fantastic meal here this past weekend. My husband and I dined here on a whim while visiting American Dream as I was craving Italian. Our bread that came out needed a little more dressing to it, but nonetheless delicious. My Pinot Grigio was perfectly chilled. The fried calamari might be one of the best I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection with sweet marinara sauce. My husband enjoyed the spicy pepper that came with it. For dinner, I ordered spaghetti with marinara which was fantastic. Finally made it Carpaccio for restaurant week. This is located in the Saks fifth Avenue side of the mall. The atmosphere is relaxed and chic with red chairs and mirrors. It was quiet on a Sunday afternoon around 4:30 but by the time we left it was filling up. We sat at the bar for dinner which has TVs (for the sportsfans) and our server Chasteidy was wonderful. Restaraunt week menu allowed us to try a good sampling : Tricolor salad was tasty with a light dressing. The Caesar salad was good but needed more dressing and we could do without the anchovy on top. Main courses- chicken franchaise was ok, lots of capers! Sauce was light. It came with mashed potatoes and vegetable. Salmon with shrimp and brandy cream sauce was very good. I had the sauce on the side because I don't like too much heavy sauce. Desserts - tiramisu - was delicious, very light and good espresso flavor soaked the lady fingers. The chocolate soufflé was actually a molten chocolate which is a favorite of mine, there was plenty of chocolate sauce in the middle and was served with vanilla ice cream on a shortbread. I'm so confused by the low ratings. The food was amazing, the service was great and the restaurant was located in a quiet part of the mall. For appetizers we got the calamari and caprese. The caprese had the best mozzarella I've ever tried. It was so creamy to the point where I went to the grocery store to recreate it. No football games were at MetLife, so the mall and restaurants were pretty empty. We had 2 servers help us to our table and take my purse and shopping bags to place them in seats near us. It's a very dimly lit restaurant. We were sat next to the windows by interior of the mall which kind of helped my husband read the menu, but he ended up needing his phone light. Service started out strong. We had a few people taking care of us. The drinks were great. The bread comes out nice and warm, drizzled with herbs and olive oil. They have a large wine menu and a fair range of cocktails. My pappardelle lamb ragu was delicious. The pasta was a little too firm for my taste, but I enjoyed the dish. My husband said that his veal was overdone and he was disappointed in the entree. He also said that his second order of the same drink was made differently and tasted more bitter than his first. Our server told us the dessert options and then left us to decide what we wanted to do. He passed our table multiple times and for a while it seemed like he was hustling around, avoiding us. At one point, he passed our table quickly to speak with the other server's congregating in the back corner of the room. We finally got his attention for another glass of wine and the chocolate soufflé. I'm pretty sure they gave me a different type of wine for my 3rd glass, but it tasted alright and I didn't want to complain. The dessert was decent. I've had better fancy lava cakes elsewhere. Overall, there's too much inconsistency with the food, drinks and service for the price point. They are at the end of the luxury shopping wing. After spending $$$ shopping and then stopping into a restaurant with a similar flair, I expected better. Maybe I'm spoiled by places like Saddle River Inn and Oceanos which are consistently amazing service and food. The oyster appetizer was amazing, fresh, and the accompanying condiments made them exquisite. The oysters were presented in a way that I've never seen before. The server added water to the center of the ice tray and it created a dry-ice affect for minutes. So cool to see and perfect for Yelp. The Misticanza Salad was large, full of fresh greens, delicious goat cheese, and the perfect amount of honey vinaigrette dressing. All of our entrees were thoroughly enjoyed. The mussels in the Linguini Allo Scoglio were the perfect texture and the white clam sauce married nicely with the pasta. The Margherita Pizza was the ideal size to share and disappeared in seconds. Disappointing Brunch with Santa I was so excited to bring my family to brunch with Santa, but this experience was absolutely disappointing. For over $100, I expected something magical, but instead, we got chaos and poor service. First, Santa wasn't even ready when we arrived. It took 15 minutes for someone to offer us water, and when the waitress finally came over, she seemed completely unprepared. She didn't know the specials or what was included in the package. I had to ask multiple questions, and even then, her responses were vague and dismissive. To make matters worse, when my son politely said "thank you," she completely ignored him! That's not the kind of attitude you expect at a family event centered around children. And as for Santa... this was far from the jolly, magical experience we were expecting. Service: 5/5 the server was very kind and attentive and we were seated immediately without reservation for a party of 8. The staff consistently checked on our party and was very patient with us and our orders. Ambience: 5/5 has a luxe city chic vibe and very dimly lit. The music playlist consists of smooth sax covers of old time hits which was great. This is definitely a good date night spot for the ambience. Drink: 4/5 the daebak was super interesting. It was prepared table side and the server combined the tea and liquor into two glasses. It tasted great as well. It serves two and was 36 dollars which was kind of higher than I thought. I did enjoy it, but it has NYC price point and was a lot of ice. Food: 1/5-4/5 the free bread was dry but crispy. It was good for dipping into sauce, but my pasta barely had any! Overall the pasta was very disappointing but the meat dishes were a bit better, but definitely pricy for the portions. Food wise, i have had better at chains like Cheesecake Factory. In depth: I had the linguini vongole which I was disappointed by. It was supposed to be in White wine sauce but it just tasted like salty pasta water. I didn't even taste any butter, clam sauce, or parsley which is usually what's in the dish. Perhaps the red sauce would have been better. The same was true for my fiancés brother's linguini allo scoglio. Just really salty and despite the price point there was not much meat. The veal dishes were better, but still too salty according to my family. The salmon which my fiancé had was delicious though. Not over cooked and the sauce tasted much better than my pasta.
