I kept seeing these guys on Instagram and saw their great overall review ratings so I thought I'd try them out while riding my bike earlier this morning. It's a small coffee truck tucked into a tiny lot next to another business on Elk Grove Florin Road in between Bond Road and Elk Grove Blvd. Even though there's only 2 people working, their service was professional and courteous. At first I was wondering why they took someone's order then stepped away to make drinks before they thanked us for our patience and came back a few minutes later to take the orders for the person in front of me then myself. I'm not a coffee drinker but I thought I'd try their hot chocolate and banana muffin. Their hot chocolate was actually hot and stayed hot much longer than most other places' hot chocolates. It had a really creamy cocoa taste which I loved. Their banana muffin with walnuts was flavorful as well. I kind of wish they offered the option for warm muffins as mine was cold but it was still good. The only negative I could possibly think of is their parking situation. I was fortunate enough to be on my bike but it was kind of worrying to see cars trying to enter and exit. Maybe 3 or 4 cars tops can park in their tiny lot and I witnessed people constantly honking at each other while trying to enter and exit. However, that has no bearing on my review of their food and service. Overall, I enjoyed my little visit here. I'll have to try their giant chocolate chip cookie next time with a nice cup of hot cocoa. read more

Iced Coffee: 4.0 Service: 3.5 Tuesday warm afternoon and my daughter is getting ready to fly back to Washington, so I know it's a last minute search for food or drink she hasn't tried. She chose Carpenter coffee roasters which is a small local coffee truck right off Elk Florin. We parked and walked up to the truck. I was hesitant because of the small menu, but don't let that fool you because the coffee they use is really REALLY GOOD! We ordered an iced vanilla latte and an iced white mocha. I usually stay away from drinks with dairy (lactose intolerant, LOL) but my daughter ordered my drink and gave me the: "just try it" look. And boy was she right! The coffee they use cuts through but the white chocolate created a smooth creamy aftertaste. Soooo good! I would pass by this coffee place while running errands. I finally had some time to actually stop by and try this place out. Parking was a bit tricky as there's not really a lot with lines. So I just pulled up to the drive way and parked along the fence. As I walked up to order, I noticed the barista and the customer talking about her wedding and family. Another group came and greeted her and they asked about how their summer vacation had been going. So it was nice to know that they get personal and they have regulars here. I love supporting local businesses, especially those that make the effort to get to know their customers. Being that it was my first time there, I asked what she recommended. And she recommended the Draft Latte. I'm glad she did because it was very good. The taste of the vanilla was just right, and the coffee strength was on point. I will definitely be getting that again when I'm in the area. When you do come here, there are some seats/tables under a covered popup, so it's nice and shaded. As you can see from my pics, they have lots of merch and some cool looking coffee beans bag. As for their food, she said everything is made by them, except for the bagel. Glad she was being honest there haha. But yah, the banner that says Elk Grove's Best Coffee, I now know why they are. Cute little coffee spot in the heart of Elk Grove. I've always drove past by it but never stopped to give it a try. I finally did last week and enjoyed every sip of my iced vanilla latte. I asked for it to be extra sweet and my drink came out perfect. The barista (male) was kind and polite. There's an area for you to sit in with a shade over you for those hot summer days. I've passed by this place several times... but who can pass by a sign that claims the best coffee in Elk Grove? I look forward to going back to actually try just a black coffee because they roast their own beans. I ordered a hot mocha, it really was delicious! The bakery goods by 10 am were only a bagel, a cookie and a muffin so I didn't order any. They also had plenty of merchandise for sale such as T-shirts coffees they roasted and K cups. It's a food truck, but they do have places to sit outside. The people were very friendly and the service was quick. They also have a rewards program that you can sign up for with your phone number. Updating my review. After frequenting Carpenter Coffee for almost 2 years, I feel like the quality of their coffee has gone down. It's great that they are busy and I'm happy they have so much exposure because all the employees are so kind and pleasant to see, but the coffee quality that I fell in love with initially is no longer there. The coffee is watered down and there's absolutely no coffee flavor/notes, nothing that screams you're drinking coffee. I cannot even taste the espresso shots in my lattes anymore. I had heard they make a premix but wasn't entirely sure until I saw it myself yesterday. They have a premix made of possibly their coffee. I'm assuming maybe 1 container of milk and coffee, and another for oat milk and coffee. I believe it maybe to keep up with demand and the line moving. Whatever the case maybe, it still felt watered down without any coffee taste. I think the only time I visit Carpenter nowadays is to order their matcha lattes. They still make a pretty good matcha latte and I'm craving for any of their fruit purees. Normally, I don't order matcha since I make it at home but if I am lazy and need a good quick fix, I'll come to Carpenter for matcha. However, for me, their coffee is no longer something I enjoy. I had their iced maple latte yesterday with soy milk. The maple didn't taste like maple. It almost tasted like a maple vanilla with something else added to the syrup but couldn't quite figure it out. It reminded me of walking into a Michael's with all their fall decor and it feels & smells like fall. That is not what I expect for a maple latte and unfortunately, couldn't finish it. I tossed 2/3 of my drink away because the maple syrup didn't taste like maple and my coffee was diluted without any coffee taste. Hopefully one day I can come back and enjoy their robust coffee again in their lattes. I may try their cappuccino again once the cooler weather comes around again, but from what I recall, they were light and didn't have as much coffee flavor to them either. Service is still excellent. Come here often and they will greet you by name and possibly remember your order as well. read more

I've past past dy Carpenter Coffee for yrs when dropping my son off at school over the years. And loved the idea of a small "mom & pops" coffee business, being around and thriving in the area. And finally made the opportunity to stop in this morning with my girlfriend, for drinks and small bites after a Sunday morning of Jiu Jitsu. It wasn't until now that I got a full understanding of how popular Carpenter Coffee is, as I saw the private parking almost full and patrons in line to both order and pickup. And other customers dining in the outdoor seating area. Looking online in advance helped us with ordering the following: Drinks: Iced Dirty Chai Latte Vanilla Iced Latte Food: Avocado toast Jalapeño & cheddar bagel w/cream cheese For flavoring in the coffee drinks, 4 pumps of sweetener is standard, but definitely play that by ear based on on your preference. We typically do 1 pump at home with our Espresso, so anything more than that tastes really sweet. And my girlfriend expecting that with half sweet (2 pumps) in her Dirty Chai Latte and even that still felt too sweet for her. I personally liek the flavor which reminded me of Yemeni Coffee, but next time she'd go with 1 pump of flavor since Cardamon already adds it own sweetness to drinks. My drinks was fine and tasted good, but I might try half sweet next next to see the difference plus it's half the sugar for that's always better in general. Both of us really liked our baked items (gf: Avocado toast with Microgreens, and me: Jalapeño &Cheddar bagel with cream cheese). I'd just opt for less cream cheese next time, since when biting down it was squeezing out the sides a good bit. Overall: Really good coffee drinks and baked goods. Staff was also very friendly and helpful. And our drinks came out quick, and the food was ready shortly after that. Would highly recommend checking them out if ever in the area. read more

Okay so I was in a hurry & I needed a quick pick me up during lunch time from work . This place was close to me and it was my first time discovering it. Omg as I pulled up I was giddy by how cute this roaster is. It's tucked away in a corner with plenty of shade . Tip : there is not a lot of parking space so be prepared to park somewhere else if it's full. Service was friendly and quick . I ordered the iced vanilla latte with oat milk and it just hit the spot! Super strong coffee with a hint of sweetness, not overpowering sugary coffee. I drank my coffee in the shade , they have benches and table outside . This is not a brick and mortar cafe . Came here and got the vanilla cold brew as well as the chai and both were absolutely delicious. They were bold flavorful and not too sweet. The service was pretty good and the gentleman even gave me a pup cup for my dog upon request. There is a little outdoor area under a tent that you can enjoy your coffee under if you'd like. Quickly greeted, service was great! It was just one guy. But he was really sweet and it was an easy ordering/transaction. I'm glad there's a huge sign to make it known that's where the truck is located. Parking is very limited, luckily it was empty when I stopped by. I LOVE mochas, so I tried their monthly special the Irish Cream Mocha. It was so smooth, delicious, and creamy! I've never had anything like it. It had a nutty and slightly fruity aftertaste. Perfect pick me up! I've had their raspberry mocha at a pop event previously and was in loveee! Can't wait to come back and try other yummy drinks they have. This has become my new coffee craving! It's a small spot but I've never had trouble with parking. If the lot is full, there's street parking around the corner. A nice quick pick up and go kinda place. Their vanilla latte is always a consistent, good choice but i love their seasonal menus. Not a whole lot of food options but I am a fan of their toasts. The skinny: Decent coffee beans The lengthy: Buying beans and freshly grinding them at home is not for everyone. But it is cheaper and if you have average skill with brewing it is probably as good as a coffee shop. The coffee truck on a residential (?) property is a unique experience to be sure. They have food if you are stopping by for a snack as well as covered seating for an extended coffee break. The people working the truck are friendly and attentive. I have not yet had them prepare a coffee for me, but i will take my friend to get coffee here when he visits next. As of now, i have only tried two varieties: Plain Jane: i thought it tasted a bit weak. I tried decreasing the grind size and increasing the amount of grounds but neither seemed to help - either too bitter or ineffective. I concluded this was not the right blend/roast for me. Everyday Blend: this is a balanced, solid cup of joe. Black or with some milk, this blend has been good. There is one more regular medium roast i hope to try next; i will be back. read more

Their matcha latte was not great. I could tell by looking at the color of the drink when I received it that it wasn't going to be flavorful. The color of the drink was too light of a green color -- an obvious sign to me that this drink is going to be too milky and that you will barely taste the matcha flavor. And that's exactly what happened. Their matcha latte is straight up milk with a subtle hint of matcha. This drink might be appealing to someone who doesn't really like matcha that much (because you can't taste it). The matcha lattes I tend to like are a darker green color, where you can really taste the matcha powder, but this matcha latte was not that. They did not put enough matcha powder, and any flavor was drowned out by milk. Not sure if the type of matcha powder they use is also a factor, though... I likely wont come back to get matcha here, but if I happen to for some reason, I'll probably ask for an extra serving of matcha in there. Or I'll get a different drink entirely. read more

They're set up in a trailer. I didn't think there was of spaces for cars to park in front of the trailer. It would probably be helpful to have lines so customers don't pull in every which direction. I tried several drinks from this place, iced lattes, dirty chai, Banana Milk Latte, and my most recent order the Mocha with Banana Milk. Let me first start off by saying customer service here is always a hit. The baristas are nice and the drinks come out in a decent time. A great little roadside coffee bar. They offer the standard fare and light pastries such as muffins, bagels and cookies. I ordered the chai latte and it was creamy and delicious. I really enjoyed the covered patio area. It's a 10x20 covered semi enclosed space with a gas fit pit, perfect for a coffee meetup with friends. 11:00am on a Friday was a little busy but we didn't wait more than 5 minutes. I love the quality of all the drinks offered. My top favorite are the draft latte and iced vanilla matcha latte. I've had their bagels, muffins and cookies and everything is great! My only downside here is the hours! They don't open until 8am on the weekends and they'd have so much more of my money if they opened earlier since we run the trail early on Sundays! A little coffee oasis by a busy road. I first know of Carpenter Coffee from a night market where I tried their affogato and got hooked. Finally I visited their home location in Elk Grove. The coffee van is so cute. I got a cappuccino with whole milk (they ran out of 2%). I know they have great coffee from the affogato before, but I don't know why today it tasted very very milky. The drink kinda tasted like milk. It's really hard to taste the coffee but I think it's probably one bad espresso extraction. I like how they have specials for every month. This month of April I tired their Irish cream mocha, couldn't really taste the Irish cream the mocha was probably too strong and over took the Irish cream But it was still good. Also got their matcha strawberry which was okay. Got to try the oat meal cream pie I thought it would be bigger but nonetheless it was good just a little too sweet for me but the cookie was good! It got pretty busy and their parking situation is a little cramped but people are in and out so you'll find a spot. They also sell coffee grinds and also merch which is pretty affordable! Also conveniently there is street parking on the side. Their dining area is small and cute. This is mostly a to go coffee truck. They have some breakfast items. Absolutely amazing! I love checking out local establishments and Elk Grove area doesn't disappoint! These amazing roasters have just celebrated their one year anniversary and I promise you they are planning to be here for the long haul. It's a small pop up shop in front of a house that makes your coffee on the go. They typically take orders to go as the place has limited parking unless you park elsewhere, they do have a small back patio that you can lounge in and enjoy your drink and snacks. This is my second time at Carpenter, and each time I've come, I've thoroughly enjoyed their coffee! Their drinks have a strong coffee flavor that isn't muted by the syrups and milk, and I really enjoyed my maple latte (half sweet) today. My friend got the iced sugar free vanilla latte with oat milk, and he also really enjoyed it. We also tried their vanilla scones which were moist and delicious. Since the last time I came, they've rearranged their set up to have more seating with an overhead tent. They additionally now have apparel and merchandise, which is awesome to see. I love supporting local small businesses, especially when their products are great. There is surprisingly a decent amount of parking, as it is a large driveway.
