Philz has been on my mind since they've recently opened a location near me in Elk Grove. Since there was long lines all three times I attempted to go to the Elk Grove location this past week (since their opening), I decided I'll just go to the Freeport location in Sac since I'm by this spot frequently. I always get their Mint Mojito, but saw they had another mint drink on their "limited time" menu and opted to try Sweet Harmony instead. They were super busy with mobile orders on a weekend afternoon, but my drink was still out fairly quickly and service was nice. The drink was really good; it was creamy and refreshing. This drink had a lot of cinnamon - it was the strongest flavor of the drink so keep that in mind. This area has a lot of businesses here now, so parking can be difficult to come by these days. read more

This location is great for hanging out and getting some work done. There is plenty of seating available. The service is always good. The coffee is better on some days; the barista really matters! I love the convenience of grabbing lunch in the plaza and then being able to pick up some coffee at the same time :) read more

This is the cleanest and most aesthetically pleasing Phil's I've been to. I love the downtown location, but they're usually bogged down with people, and the coffee taste varies based on how busy they are. Regardless, all locations stick to a "does it taste the way you want it? If not we can make it over" style of customer service. I never say I don't like my coffee, for fear of hurting someone's feelings. This location though, they get it right every time! I got the seasonal pistachio latte, and it was so good. Creamy and sweet was too sweet for me so I'll go for creamy and medium next time. I love their iced coffee and you should try it if you have a chance ! read more

An extremely clean and aesthetically pleasing coffee shop. There are plenty of tables and places to sit inside and outside here. I constantly see so many people studying or meeting each other for a nice drink. As are all the Philz coffee shops, the drinks are pretty standard and the customer service is excellent. All the baristas are incredibly nice and always offer to remake your drink if it's not to your liking. I've never had an issue with a drink here. We were getting some delicious dim sum in the area, and were happy to find Phil's near by. The shop was bright, clean and spacious. Our cashier was very sweet and took our order right away. I got the Winter Bliss and my husband got an iced Mint Mojito. My husband noticed this location has a pared down menu and the cashier confirmed that they have removed a few options. Luckily most popular options are still available. The ice mojito was creamy and refreshing. It has a light minty flavor and the light foam added some texture to it as well. He also asked for light sweetness and it was easy to drink. My winter bliss was delicious as well. it's much sweeter than the mojito, and it tasted like Mexican hot chocolate a bit. It's a bit sweet for me as I have been in low sugar diet for years, but if someone likes mocha, they would like this. I still remember my first sip of Philz when I was visiting friends in the Bay Area. I love having a Philz location in South Land Park! While a majority of my visits are quick stops to pick up a mobile order, I've also enjoyed the time I've spent just hanging out inside and catching up with friends. The staff are really friendly and of course offer to you to try the drinks once they're made to ensure they are to each customer's taste. There's a good amount of seating inside with tables and couches, and also tables outside when the weather is nicer! There are a couple of mobile pick up parking spots right in front of the store, but otherwise parking is fairly available in the shared lot with the other businesses in the plaza. My go-to drinks here are iced Mint Mojito or the Honey Haze (both sweet and creamy) when I want something cold and refreshing. When I want a hot drink, I tend to order the Tesora or Philtered Soul (also sweet and creamy). I don't often get food here, but they have a good selection of breakfast items, pastries, and even sandwiches. Philz is just an all around staple spot for me! read more

Bay Area coffee house vibes in Sac! FOOD: My favorite thing here is not the coffee...it is actually the bacon croissants! They are buttery with bacon crumbles that will make you savor every bite. I pair my croissant with the chai tea latte which is also very tasty! It gives that strong aromatic flavor the us chai lovers look for. SERVICE: Everyone is always really nice. One thing to note is sometimes it can take long to get your drink but I think this is due to the care they take to make each drink. AMBIANCE: This place is cozy inside and has a great patio outside. We love to get a spot outside and let our kids roam around while we enjoy our goodies. KID FRIENDLY? Yes, the kids enjoy snacks and the outside is perfect spot for romping around. I feel like this place sets the bar for quality coffee and customer service! First, I absolutely love that they have a specific flavor profile of coffee that isn't over the top with sugar and syrup! Don't get me wrong because who doesn't love a triple caramel macchiato with heavy whip and a luxardo cherry, with a drizzle of chocolate...yeah....No! Philz keeps it pretty legit with the amount of cream or sugar to order. Also, it's gonna take a moment so have a seat, take a deep breath and wonder why you are in a frenzy for that coffee. Maybe you've been conditioned by a place called...well, you know :) Philz is not that kinda place. They are all about service and quality. They even tell you to taste it before you walk away by saying "make sure it's absolutely perfect". I just love that. This is probably more of my retired teacher mindset which took a while to adjust. But it sure beats the mad rush of getting a quick super sized coffee in the rush to be ready for 32 math students 5 times a day because they didn't quite understand the rules of PEMDAS. We were in the area having lunch and found this location! I love Philz coffee especially the Iced Mint Mojito, my GoTo. My daughter likes the Mocha Tressora. We usually go to the R St location and had no idea there was another store in Sac, shows you how much I keep up, lol. This store was so much bigger and not as busy. In fact, there was no one ahead of us and only two customers waiting for their drink. My complaint was the LONG wait for our drink to be made. Loved the area and was surprised to see a Philz here. Entering there was plenty of people lounging and studying. If you plan on studying, it might be a hard place to find a good sit to seat in. This place can get busy. We ordered drinks through the cashier and waited not too long for it to be completed. Our drinks were delicious as always--to our perfection. THE SETUP Philz Coffee (aka "Philz") is a smaller chain of coffee shops in the Great Sacramento area that produces some MEAN BREWS. I have easier access to the Philz located at 17th & R Streets, but it was indeed a treat to see this spot with my buddy Alex T. And after a few stops over as many days - from the basic drip-brew to a more complicated seasonal mocha with mint - made me realize that Philz does an excellent brew no matter what iteration of caffeine infusion you ask for. What a nice shopping area! Plenty of parking! The pastries sell out quickly! I've made a trip out here, twice actually, to try the baked goods. Flaky croissants, sweet kouign-amann and frosted cinnamon rolls...all delish! There is seating inside where it's very clean and organized. Both times I've been in the afternoon, there was no line, maybe one other couple waiting to order. The staff greets you when you enter and they are ready for your order. Workers here are so nice! I feel bad going into a place of business not knowing what I want and feeling like I take forever to make up my mind. I asked for my coffee to be set at 120 degrees so I can start drinking right away. Apparently their standard temperature is about there so it worked out perfectly with my caramel coffee. My husband and I are big Philz fans so we frequent this spot as well as the R Street store - but over the last few months we've both noticed that we'll order a drink at R Street, it's perfect, then we'll order the exact same drink here and it tastes really milky and watered down with very little flavor. (And it's not like we're ordering it extra creamy/light sugar or anything.. we either order medium/medium or sweet & creamy.) Even when we ask for a remake it's not quite right. I honestly keep forgetting there's a Philz Coffee here haha. So glad that there is one close by and that you can order from the app. Usually we order from the app since we're in a rush. We go in, and to the left is a counter with our ready drinks. There is usually plenty of seating, so it's a nice place to just read or catch up on some work or catch up with some friends. This has been my go-to coffee shop since the day it opened, and honestly, no other location has the same vibe. The friendliest staff, the most welcoming atmosphere--it's been a staple in my routine for years. I held off on writing this review for safety reasons, but now that I'm moving to Portland, I have to give this place the love it deserves. Coffee & Atmosphere: The drinks are always consistent (which I love), and their chai is one of the best--probably as close to authentic as you can get. It does get busy, and I've waited over 20 minutes for a drink before, but it's understandable given how good this place is. Study Spot: If you're looking for a cozy spot to get work done, this place is magical. Plenty of outlets, a big community table where students from all backgrounds come together, and an overall warm, inviting vibe. My only wish? Longer hours. The barista was sooooo sweet and kind to ask me what I normally drink. He not only made my coffee, but he brought it to me at my table while I was working! It was early in the morning and it wasn't as busy as it normally is. I recall having to wait for awhile for coffee but this morning was just great. Walked in, a cheery "good morning" was flowing out of a couple of employees even though busy. I got their Iced Mint Mojito, a truly pleasant eye opener; subtle mint flavor with the right amount of cream foam. Paired that up with their vegan green chile burrito with eggs and potatoes...perfect size and flavors (topped with cholula of course)! I love their "one cup at a time" slogan, as you can tell the coffee is fresh and not bitter. (Note: if you're in a hurry and expect to have your drink order within a minute or two, this place isn't for you. Nothing is dispensed from an air pot or brew station). Sat in one of three leather accent chairs and listened to eclectic music not too loud. Seating area is spacious and a little nippy, but comfortable and inviting. Love to see employees clean and dust during downtime versus being on their mobile device are chatting amongst each other. Love the vibe here, wil be back when I'm on this side of town. This coffee shop is located in a very clean and cute shopping center where you'll find other eateries and a grocery store. It doesn't look like much from the outside but when you walk in you'll find a pretty big area with many different areas to sit at. This particular morning what extremely packed although it didn't take long to order or to receive our coffees. The baristas were super kind and patient, and although the menu was confusing at first glance, it actually was pretty simple. Choose your coffee and you sweetness level. I got a honey cold brew the sweetest they offer. It didn't taste super sweet at first but towards the end of the coffee it was all sugar. Hi I typically like philz. i like you can get a decaf coffe there i'm not an americana with a shot of decaf Espresso. I think that's gross. today I went there and I ordered my usual decaf coffee medium suite, heavy cream. the lady asked me, do you like it? And I said, oh, it's a little bitter and a little more watery than I'm used to. And then she asked me, well, how should I change it? And I was like, I don't know but I'm thinking make it less bitter and more creamy.. And then she's like, should I dump this out?And I was like, I don't know.I don't know how to make coffee. then, her and the manager stared at me like I was really rude. But I was thinking, I don't know lady. How you make it sweeter or more creamy, like? Why are you asking me? i'm just wondering what is my responsibility here? Like I told her it's it's a little bitter, and it's not, and it's a little watery. But I don't think it's my responsibility to tell her how to fix it, because I don't know how to fix it. I would really appreciate some feedback. Because I felt like an idiot after I left and it makes me feel like I'll never want to go there again. And I live right around the corner.So I go there all the time. i do find people under 30 like are really like children. Like, they can't figure out basic steps to fix things like if I was working in the coffee shop. I'd be like, oh too bitter and to watery. Okay, you fix the bitterness with more sugar to watery. I was in this plaza for sandwiches, and Philz was across the street! I new I needed to come around and get myself an exemplary cup of Philz. When I walked in, I was surprised to not be greeted. I was trying to decide what to order when I went to the cashier. I chose their gingersnap. I got normal cream and light sweetness. The drink had just the right amount of ginger when I tasted it! It wasn't too overwhelming. It had a lovely, subtle flavor. I forgot when I o go to Philz, I regularly get no sweetness and light cream. I didn't get to taste the coffee this time. If you like the taste of coffee, I would suggest getting a cup with light cream and no sugar when you visit Philz. However, if you don't like coffee and only drink it for the sugar and caffeine, I suggest getting a cup with normal sweetness and cream. The barista was nice and the overall experience was good. One of my favorite coffee spots. I enjoy coming here when I don't want to travel to downtown or midtown. . There are lots of parking in this shopping center with food choices too. So if your hungry you got that covered to pair with coffee before or after. . Interior has plenty of seating. There is even a couch in the middle of the dining room. The couch is getting slouchy, wish it was a bit more structure. . What to order ? I nearly had a coffgasm when I made this drink with the barista. You should try the Alex T. Special ice coffee drink which I'm going to give you my own creation. Let me know if you order it. So this is how you order it, one large ice coffee with half aromatic and half ether, muddled with mint, creamy "i use the regular milk", and depending on sweetness, I like my coffee less sweet so I say "less sweet with honey" or "less sweet with the brown sugar they use" or no sweet depending on the mood. But I suggest you add less sweet because it brings out the coffee beans end notes. On the first couple sips nearly felt the coffegasm because it's that good and refreshing. . Overall I always have a nice experience here. I come here to chill and enjoy my me time with people watching. This is a good place to catch up with friends too with the chill ambiance.
