I initially gave this company a good review but after a couple of weeks I realize they had no idea what they are doing. they came to clean out my dryer vents but had no idea where they led out to so not only did they not clean vents, they disconnected my ducts so my dryer completely stopped working! A much better company came and actually claimed up in the attic to find out where the ducts were and fixed what Carpet boss broke! Purchased a Groupon. Total waste of my time and money. I don't even know how what they did could be considered carpet cleaning. They sprayed a solution and then ran a rotating scrubber around but there was no actual steam cleaning or use of water. I could have done a MUCH better job using a Home Depot carpet cleaner rental. When I finally go a hold of someone, I was told that it would be an extra fee for berber carpet and an extra fee because I'm in a condo. I have my own RugDoctor, and many chemicals. But I decided to let a professional take a shot at removing the scent that lingers in my home. In retrospect I should have taken time out to make sure it was done correctly, but I was dealing with professionals right? Wrong! I was bluntly lied to. Never received a receipt, charged more for extra services than what was initially quoted, they left exposed areas of carpet untouched, and moved absolutely not one piece of furniture but later on told me of a "Moving furniture Fee," I would have had to pay. So basically, all of the areas where I wanted them to take care of untouched or ignored. I was also told that I would get a 1 time return for Customer Satisfaction if needed, but when the work was obviously not completed, I was told that it would cost me that 1 time return. Oh and by the way they are so Unprofessional, that they had to return to collect payment, because I found out they hadn't before leaving, wish I had known, they could have pulled right off and I would be none the worse off for it. Spoke to the Owner, "Kevin", about the work that was done. Basically told to use the 1 Return because He doesn't do Refunds. I asked, in so many words, would he want known crooks to come back on his property, in short, "Well that's the only option you have. I have a strong client base, so do what you do." I was introduced to Carpet Boss through Groupon and was shocked at the unprofessional, inadequate service I received. I purchased a Groupon for an area rug cleaning (before I read all the poor reviews on Yelp, unfortunately) and was surprised that there were significant fees on top of the Groupon price, including extra cost because I live on the third floor. There was an additional, non-disclosed 6% fee to use a credit card to pay for the service. All in all, my ~$50 Groupon purchase cost about $115. Further, the day of my appointment, Carpet Boss called my cell phone after I repeatedly mentioned that I would not be accessible on that number, only my work number. The only positive in this whole mess of a situation is the woman receptionist is a dear! She helped reschedule my appointment, was kind, and professional. After my rug was cleaned and I returned from vacation, my rug looked worse than before! I called Carpet Boss to see if they would re-clean my carpet or issue a refund, and left an honest review of my experience on Groupon. After I sent in pictures of my poorly cleaned rug to the manager, the receptionist called back. She wanted to let me know that the manager was willing to re-clean my rug, free of charge, although it was after the 3-day policy (how benevolent); however, the manager would not extend this offer after reading my honest review, expressing my disappointment on Groupon. His prerogative. Although, I'm sure my positive review after fixing Carpet Boss's mistake would have been meaningful. Once they're in the door they tell you need additional cleaning which is additional cost which the additional cleaning didn't take care of the problem. The lady on the phone asked what kind of sofa do I have, I told her exactly what I had and she said that is included in the price of the Groupon. The first available appointment they had was 2 weeks from the day I called which was fine, upon arrival I was told I would have to pay an additional $70 for the cleaning because I needed some sort of foam cleaning, I was a little upset but didn't argue I just paid it. Well they did a horrible job, I still have a smell and spots. I called to tell them about it and did not get a call back, I had to call two more times to finally get a return phone call. This company did nothing to try and resolve the issue just kept telling me I didn't purchase this or that. Beware of the Groupon, it's a trap / scam to get more money out of you. First off, let me say that the carpet cleaning wasn't bad. There were stains that I was pretty sure wouldn't come up (and they didn't) and the technicians were very friendly. The three stars is based more on the experience I had. I found this company through Groupon and paid $100 for the entire house not including stairs, those were an extra $79 for 2 flights. I scheduled the appointment and they gave me a window of 12-3 and said they'd call 30 minutes before arriving. At 2:30 they called and said the technician broke down and someone different would be there at 4:30. At this point I was frustrated but they offered me free deodorizer for the inconvenience so I let it go. The technician finally arrived at 4:45 and they walked around the house and told me they'd be about 45 minutes. About 15 or 20 minutes into it their machine stopped working, so the technition had to stop and fix it, which took almost an hour. At this point I was more frustrated as I had basically wasted my day. They got the machine working and started cleaning the carpets. They finally left at 7. The carpets look okay, like I said there are still some stains that I wasn't expecting them to get up. And the service guys were really friendly. My initial appointment was given a window of 11-3. They asked that day if they could come early and I said we had to stick with the plan. I called them after 2 p.m. and they told me they would be there right around 3 p.m. At 3:25 p.m. they called and said it would be closer to 4 p.m. So after I gave up 4.5 hours sitting around waiting, we had to reschedule. They came today and in addition to the Living Social, I had to pay $39 for each stairway, $25 extra for a tiny hall, plus $29.99 for the deodorizer (which they had told me on the phone would be free due to my inconvenience from the original date.) The thing that REALLY irked me was that they added a 6% charge for using a credit card to pay that they claimed "All" their customers know about. Um, I was a customer, too, and NOBODY at any time mentioned a 6% credit card fee. He said I could use cash. Who keeps $150 cash laying around these days? Also, he recorded the charge for my base package as $99 and the living social as $99, when really the "promotional value" was supposed to be $141. So it seems I paid full price. When they got here they offered treatment for "high traffic areas" ($29 per small room. Our living room alone would have been $58 MORE!) I declined because I had already paid for the deep clean. All they did was swipe over the carpet SUPER fast with a steamer. He went so fast that he did the living room in under a minute. Even if you're using a fancy device, you have to slow down! I even asked him if the "deep clean" was the same as the "high traffic cleaning" and he said YES! So, if i paid for deep cleaning, and that's the high traffic clean, then why didn't I get the service? I wound up talking to the apparently owner, and he was EXTREMELY RUDE. He even had the audacity to tell me the groupon does NOT state deep clean. Yelp won't let me post a photo, but I did on other websites. Something else I should note. Do NOT contract with Carpet Boss Restoration of Gwynn Oak, MD to provide any dryer vent cleaning services for you as owner/technician Kevin Clark does not know what he is doing. He charged me hundreds, including a surcharge, to clean the 25 ft dryer vent in my new home. After my gas dryer still did not heat, thinking there was a malfunction, I had another company look at it only to learn the dryer vent was still clogged, preventing the dryer from functioning properly. When I called Mr. Clark repeatedly to come back out and remove the clog, he strung me along for weeks and did not return, professing that he had fully cleaned the vent and an animal had likely clogged it again. All the way up to its corporate complaint department, American Home Shield and its ProConnect subsidiary that referred me to Carpet Boss in the first place disavowed any responsibility for the issue or the cost, so avoid them as well! Frustrated, I finally located a reliable company that cleaned my vent expertly and at a vastly lower price given the nightmare that Carpet Boss had already put me through. Come to find out, Mr. Clark had hooked his vacuum to my bathroom fan vent outback and NEVER found my dryer vent, which was vented vertically through the roof and NOT horizontally out of the back of the house as Mr. Clark had professed!!!!! Came home to so many stains after I was told paying an extra $150 would GUARANTEE to get all stains out old or new. Talked to the supervisor on the phone, on speaker with 3 people present. I have pictures that show the stains were NO different than before. It took me a month with constant texts and calls to get the manager on the phone where he denied he ever said that. The female that answered confirmed the appointment. 2 hours later she called to advise that one of their drivers had an "incident" so they decided to pull all their drivers off of the road. OKAY!!!! Do NOT buy their Groupon packages, this company is SO not worth even their "bargain basement" price. Their technicians are rude, unreliable and liars, this includes their manager (owner?) Kevin. We made an appointment for the 1200 sq. ft. whole house deep clean and was given the ridiculous arrival window of 1-7pm. At once I knew that their Groupons were only an attempt to back fill slow days in their scheduling for their full price jobs. Even so, we patiently waited and were given a call at 5:30 saying the techs would arrive at 6:30...yeah RIGHT...7pm no techs...7:30 no techs, we call back to find out where they are and get an ETA & are told they're 10 min. out suure!... 8pm no techs...call them again and the dude hangs up this time. Fortunately there was a receptionist person still there who called back to us 15 mins later, very apologetic and tries to find out where our tech is. Now we're at 9pm, she calls back apologizing that no one is coming. Big shock there! Promises that the tech's manager Kevin will come out to us in Frederick, first thing in the morning to personally do the carpets and also says that the extra stairs fee (supposedly not included, how can you claim you're doing a whole house cleaning and not include carpeted stairs...nothing in the groupon fine print about THAT!! & despite the fact a whole house is classified as 1200 square feet, guess what my entire townhouse is only 1200, and only the upstairs and stairs are carpeted!!) will be waived as compensation for their unprofessional tech's bail out on us. We accepted, but insisted we did not want the same tech sent out in the morning, so what happens??? Same tech of course & an assistant shows up, NOT the manager Kevin as we were promised...and the tech right away starts hasseling for more money for stain pretreats, which we didn't want anyway on a 10+ yr. old carpet...yes it's got stains, we don't care it's stained we just want an allergen free clean carpet til the carpet can eventually be replaced! Then he starts in about the stair fee...he puts us on the phone with Kevin, who claims they never give stairs for free on a Groupon because it's so low priced already....yes but you, through your receptionist were giving the extra service because your services techs gave us the run around all night previously! Finally they give in on their promises and only the assistant tech did any work at all, the dude from the night before was outside on his phone the whole time. STAY AWAY...TOTAL RIPOFF!! I purchased a Groupon for $102.00 (originally $250, so they say) and after 8 phone calls and messages, I finally reach someone. So they make an appointment for me on the following Thursday. Well on Wednesday I get a message that they will be at my home, BUT it will cost an additional $175.00!!!!!!!!! WTF did I just purchase. Not only did it take forever to get someone to answer the phone, and not only are they not honoring their Groupon Price, but now they are trying to increase the price to OVER the original price!!! I went back over the voucher and NO WHERE does it say it will cost an additional 175.00 because I live in Loudoun county, contrarily it states that Loudoun County is within their travel range. I was sorry to see the other reviews because I had a great experience! I called about a Groupon prior to ordering to make sure they came to my area and they scheduled me for that same week at the Groupon price. I added a pet treatment and they waived the 2nd floor fee for me. I have a one year old puppy who has destroyed my new carpet and all of the spots came out! Tremaine was on time and called before hand to let me know he was on his way. He was polite, efficient, and did a nice job. I'd use them again. read more

I would love to give this place a five star review. I really do. There's nothing better than supporting local businesses. However, it's kind of hard to do so when you didn't even receive a phone call or any kind of notification that your appointment was going to be rescheduled, or even worse, not serviced at all. We had our first appointment set two Saturdays ago from 12-3. Come 2:30pm, we haven't received any calls. So my husband calls the shop and tells them of the no-show. The guy on the phone gives us his sincere apology (and I do believe that it was sincere) and rescheduled it for last Saturday from 9-12. Saturday rolls around, and the next thing we know, it was 11:30 with yet another no-show. We didn't even bother with calling to notify them of the second no-show because at this point, it's up to the business to take the initiative to let their customers know of any and all scheduling conflicts, cancellations, or reschedulings. Maybe we'll give this place another try in the future, but we luckily got the deal from Amazon, so a refund is an easy phone call away. read more
